I have been a member of this gym since the day it opened, and they haven't updated a single screw, weight, or piece of equipment since the day it opened. I have no issues with the staff, but I have issues with how upper management handles a business rooted in the black community. I have been to Retro fitness gyms across the nation, and none have looked, smelled, or been as poorly maintained as this one. You can't go on one machine without there being an issue with the equipment. I stayed with this gym for way too long due to the fact that it is the first and only gym in Queens Village. Knowing that, I feel like they use the monopoly to make sure they don't take seriously the concerns of the majority black population who patronize them. Every member has complained about going to a gym that has no respect for them. The ceiling leaked for months onto the rubber flooring, the speakers were broken for months with no rush to repair, the boxing backs were ripped out of the walls with no plans to update, the back pull-down machines squeak and buckle at every pull, and the shoulder lat pull-down has been broken for over a year plus. If you hate the community you're placed in as a business, this is the best way to show it. I gave so many chances for things to get better, but at this point, out of respect for myself, I can no longer do it. When I finally voiced my opinion, I was told that "the owner doesn't care to hear my concerns and is cheap". Go to where you are respected and loved, and it sucks because it has to be outside of your neighborhood. read more

The whole gym community needs to speak up for this disgusting gym. The owners of the gym are distasteful and unprofessional. The majority of the people that go here are men because of how rude and disgusting the staff are to females. May 5th the owners called 311 on my car and denied it after people in the gym said they knew it was my car at a hydrant and was laughing at the situation. Mind you everyone parks there everyday without a problem. The owners are very racist and disgusting towards the black community. After telling them constantly verbally and also through reviews about how disgusting the gym is and how the equipment is always broken they had something against me and would NEVER fix the situation. May 6th I came in and I said to the owner why don't you call 311 on that white car now, he responded nasty and was cursing at me with people around me. They proceeded to call the cops on me because of a comment I said. This all comes to them writing a letter and putting it on my car because they think they own a parking spot so they were already targeting me. The gym is mold infested pipes are leaking, equipments are broken, garbage always overflowing, females bathrooms are always flooded with water after it rains, the basement of the gym floor has puddles of water, no proper ventilation, the gym accessories are cheap and the owners told paying customers he buys the stuff on Amazon. The list goes on. Save your money and trip because the way the gym is infested with mold can cause health problems. This just needs new owners because the way they treat paying customers is disgusting. Nobody likes the owners because they don't anything to upgrade the gym they just stay at the front desk and be glued to theirs phones instead of actually getting and cleaning the gym. How is there 3 people in the morning and only 1 person in the evenings? And on top of that they canceled my membership after 3 days of taking the monthly payments ($36) out and I was unable to go to a different location because of that. This gym is a scam and the owners are crooks I was paying for the ultimate price faithfully every month for them to cancel my membership because of a comment I said. They lied on their previous feedback saying I was "Constantly cursing" at them and they have no proof because I never even interacted with them or had an altercation with the staff whatsoever. read more

These companies only care about money........ like, dumb people really don't understand what customer service is..... What's the point of not having a contract if your gonna keep charging me & once my card is no longer on file & then say my account is now in collections when I haven't even gone to the gym in seven months nor has there been a card on file this whole time....... The fine print is that you need to cancel your membership for them to not charge you every month, even if there is no card on file or even if you haven't been there in over half a year..... That makes a whole lot of sense, capitalism at its finest. This is there whole trick they have, so grimy & yet so smart because they know people will not think to cancel, only remove the payment method... & you also have to go in person to cancel just so that there is higher chance of them getting more money, & you not being able to make it to cancel before they charge you again. I really hate people sometimes lol 250$ going to some people that built an extremely unethical business like this, even tho I haven't been there in the last 7 months....... & not that 250$ is much, it's just this is a horrible way of going about treating your clients. Things come up in peoples lives, reading the fine print of a long contract for a gym membership is not something 99% of people do. Absolutely horrible customer service and as soon as my year is up, I will be quitting this gym. I have a membership to this gym (which took MONTHS to open up), and I brought my friend after having a conversation with the manager two months ago that I could bring a friend for free for the first time. Not to mention, it says it very clearly on your website that you can try it for free. Thanks to your silly staff, you just lost the opportunity to convert a customer from another gym. She was considering switching to this gym but now she will never consider this gym again - you haggled over $10 and have lost a year-long membership. This is the second friend that has had a terrible experience with this gym. Basic business would tell you that people are more likely to go to the gym when they are with friends. This establishment makes it hard to quit their membership even you followed all their procedures (which is ridiculous when it's a chain). They have still charged my credit card for 6 months even though I already gave them a signed letter that I want to quit my membership after waiting a whole year. I called the establishment to get this settled and still haven't heard back (its been 2 weeks). Honestly, the management is dishonest and lack professionalism. I've never had a gym membership in my life but the amenities at this location changed that forever. As a mom of two toddlers, multitasking, time management and self care are almost always warped into one basket of chaos. It can be very restricting considering child care has to be figured into every equation making task completion a near hurdle. Needless to say, you could only imagine my esteem when a good friend informed me the Queens Village location in New York was not only newly open but also featured childcare services included in one of their tier packages. The average person requires less than 3 hours/ week of physical activity so I gladly obliged. To begin, I want to highlight that, unlike the Rego Park location, there is no single designated staff member appointed to oversee the underage children in the room at the Queens Village site. Consequently, toddlers that would normally require direct supervision are seemingly left unattended granted only periodic check-ins at the leisure of the front desk staff. Naturally, my tenacious toddlers in full effect quickly took notice of this new found liberty and would leave the room without permission or use the bathroom in excess. Although, I fully understand the potential liability this may impose I am also aware of the extent it could be prevented given a staff member is tasked with the responsibility of managing the child care services more closely. Ultimately, my children were deemed disruptive and permanently banned from this location. It's not about the fact that I pass by at least three other gym communities before reaching at this location. It's not about the inconvenience this has now caused me as I make my way over to the Rego Park location, unfamiliar territory. No, it isn't about the feeling of deceit that swoons over me after signing a one year contract with a gym to be told within the first month that my access to services has now been restricted based on the lack of effective manpower. In fact, to all intents and purposes, it's about all of the above. In all fairness and equality, the notion just does not seem unbiased. After speaking with staff members on multiple occasions, I was abruptly dismissed and the issue has been left unresolved. I am floored at the lack of regard to quality customer service demonstrated at this location. On my part, I disciplined my children and assured the staff there would be no recurring instances, however, I was still denied access to this resource indefinitely. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A MEMBERSHIP WITH THIS LOCATION particularly if you are a mother let alone single mother. The support rendered clearly suggests inexperience with underage children as it is sub-par and hardly unprejudiced. i joined Retro Fitness in January of this year 2022. i only have good to say about the gym, its staff, its accommodations, and the equipment and fitness machines at your disposal. i enjoy going to Retro Fitness on Springfield Blvd to spend quality time towards the betterment of my mental and physical well being and fitness. very clean gym, very friendly staff, an app to track your progress with various programs at the gym, including yoga, zumba and martial arts. very fair membership prices with NO ANNUAL CONTRACTS - i highly recommend Retro Fitness on Springfield Blvd in Cambria Heights for anyone serious about maintaining good health. read more

This gym isn't terrible. I just think it lacks in certain areas. So, starting off upstairs, it's relatively always clean and well lit. There's enough cardio machines and enough room on the turf. I love that they have a tire and battle ropes. You can burn some major calories with those. The group fitness room is almost always empty so you can go in and workout there whenever there's not a class. Going downstairs, is where it gets tricky. The locker room is always clean, or at least the women's locker room is. I don't know the condition of the men's as I am a lady lol. There's more than enough lockers and space to get dressed. I don't shower there so that doesn't apply to me. The main machine area has a lot of machines to work out with but I've noticed that it's a very male dominant gym and I'm not sure if it's because women don't like the gym or if there's just so much men that it's intimidating. Who knows? Anyway, the ceiling are very low downstairs and there's no cell service so you can't call down there but they provide wifi that's very good. A big plus. Weights are usually very easy to find and there's always cleaning items to wipe down machines. My biggest complaint is that it gets STUFFY down there. The ventilation could be better because after a while it smells like sweat, and rubber, and gets very warm. I also wish the boxing area where the heavy bags are had mirrors around it since my bf likes to shadow box. That area also doubles as a calisthenics area. So a mirror would be so great! Anyway. That's all I have to say. Oh! The smoothies are kind of sweet but not bad. And $8 dollars for that size cup isn't terrible. I wish it was $7 but we can't always get what we want lol. read more

I spoke with the manager of your Queens Village club in mid-march and advised him that I would not be renewing my membership due to the fact that the club would be closing INDEFINITELY DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS. The club was shutting down that day and it was the end of my membership period, sooooo HOW would I have submitted a cancellation request in person?!. Should I have broken into the location to do that?! At that point I also received an email from Retro Fitness stating that no further billing would take place, that is the ONLY correspondence I've received since then. Months later, my card is being charged $40 with NO explanation. Today, I called the Queens Village location to speak with Danny with hopes that there would be some reasonable explanation and resolution. He was determined to justify the situation, constantly attempted to yell over me on the phone, refused to give his full name for identification purposes, and also refused to give me his supervisor's name. When I threatened to call corporate to report his behavior he refused to help me any further and hung up the phone in my ear. Disgusting and unacceptable are the only words that come to mind as it relates to his customer service skills. I do NOT want this account and I will NOT step foot into a Retro Fitness based on this experience. I have also notified "7 on your side" to have this story aired on the evening news because if I am going through this then there MUST be other customers being harassed and held hostage to these agreements during a pandemic. read more

If I could give this gym zero stars I would! I've been with this gym for 3 years since they opened, when I moved out of state for 4 months in 2020, I tried to cancel my membership and they wouldn't let me. So I was paying for my membership while I lived out of state. Fast forward to this year, I had to get surgery and was in the hospital for almost two months. When I tried to cancel the membership over the phone they told me I had to come in person, I explained my situation and that I was bedridden in the hospital, but they still didn't cancel my membership. Now I find out that I owe $81 for the two months when I wasn't able to get out of bed. I spoke to the manager, the billing company and corporate, and they all said it's up to the manager (who's clearly money hungry) to remove the overdue fees on the account. I decided to cancel the membership completely, but they won't cancel it until I pay the $81, so I'm gonna keep getting charged every month and it's gonna go to collections. Please do yourself a favor and don't come to this gym unless you want to be tied to something miserable. read more

This place is small and sometimes downstairs by the vents it smells like something died. The manager/ owner is extremely rude and so are the staff . No one says hello or greets you when they walk in. The manager isn't passionate about fitness and in actuality very money hungry. The gym is small but clean and organized. Aaron is one of my favorite staff.. helpful at a random even when walking by to help people do the correct form when working out. If it wasn't for this being a contract membership I would have cancelled a long time ago. I'm big on customer service and this Retro fitness doesn't have it! read more

They really need to work on customer service. No one greets you when you walk in. Staff doesn't help with Machines at all. Just stare at their phone the whole tIme. I've never been to a gym where you didn't even get a "Hi" when you come in. Their group room also gets crowded. Need more machines downstairs. read more

I wanted to add to this post. They also need a shower mat outside the showers to avoid slip falls. Someone mentioned smoothies @ $8 are expensive and they only have one size. You should request management add an add'l smaller size(16oz.) @ $4.50. The other retro fitness franchises offer two sizes. This location is in a predominantly black neighborhood. Which explains why they don't have the necessary essentials available like the other Retro Fitness gyms in Queens. Disturbing since they recently opened their doors. They do not have soap dispensers in showers, no towel hooks, no hair dryers or electrical socket by mirror in vanity area to blow dry hair. No bench in the handicap shower. When I asked manager if these amenities will be installed, he flatly said no. When I ask if the other locations have it, he said no. I worked out in the Queens Blvd location today. They have all of these standard amenities. Which means manager outright lied!!! I asked other location if all retro fitness should have these standard essentials. They said yes. This is very disturbing. Do the black neighborhood not deserving of this and we pay the same cost? The membership should be $9.95/mo. if you are not supplying the essentials. For that reason I will not be returning. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED. That-is discrimination in my book. I HAVE TRANSFERRED MY MEMBERSHIP TO THE QUEENS BLVD. I have been going here for about 6 months now. The only reason why I even continued to go to this location is because I'm moving soon and it is convenient for right now. Never planned on using it for the long term. This location is disgusting. I have never seen any staff cleaning. They do not enforce the mask mandate. & the staff is extremely rude and disrespectful. I was working with my family when the bosses son called me over and said I was stealing by training in their establishment. I explained that I was just with my family to receive a 5 ft 3 spoiled child screaming and cursing in my face and saying that he was going to terminate my membership. It is a happy farewell. I applaud the owner for taking a chance to open this gym in a location that lacks healthy options and activities. Overall the gym is well designed despite the lack of mirrors throughout the gym. A lot of guys come to this gym, but they are nice and there's always machines & equipment available. I gave it 3 stars because the staff is not friendly. The first time I arrived, I was basically ignored until I gave someone strong eye contact. I was not given a tour of the gym nor any explanations on how to sign up for classes nor the shake options. The staff should work harder to help create a community feeling in the gym when someone walks through the doors instead of being pre-occupied with their phones. I'm happy there is finally a gym in the area, but some personnel improvements are needed. read more
