Went to check out this place if it's still the same when it was just a shop on the sidewalk... It was a mistake. If you know about shopping for good prices, ask for the price for the most common part that you change in a bike. Which would be the inner tubes for your tire. This shop is over priced! The same Chinese brand in another shop priced at $3.00 they charged for $6.50. read more

We had a flat tire on our child's BOB stroller. We contacted a few kids shops, but they either couldn't do it or we needed to hear back from their "repair" department. So we decided to try a bike shop instead. We called Retro and they said they could fix 12-inch and 16-inch stroller tires. We took it in later that day and they fixed it in ten minutes for $10. Easy! And the whole shop was super friendly to our son as we waited. Will definitely go back for stroller fixes and for our bikes! read more

Called ahead to make sure they had single speed chainring bolts, they said yeah whole box of them. I walked in to music blaring, I wasn't even able to hear myself think. Employee greeted me and just kept doing his own thing. About 10 mins later Another employee came out the back and asked if I needed help. I had to yell at him about the bolts I had called about, didn't turn the music down. He said oh yeah, and be gun to dig around in parts bins and in the back for them. another 10 minutes passed by and he brought me a 3 bolts that were "take offs" and 4 others that were miss matched, and gnarled edges, and all of them were the wrong size. I asked to see the parts bin and was able to part some of the chainring bolts together. I asked how much for 4 of the miss matched bolts were going to be. $25 I laughed and walked out... Not only did i have to show the "mechanics" the difference in Chainring bolts and sizing, but was getting over charged for used gnarled bolts that looked like they had been taken out with pliers... Melvin saved me from myself! I went in with a Walmart bike that was too big for me and no clue what I needed. He sold me a great used bike that's exactly my size. He installed a new seat for me and explained how the gears work. He even watched me ride to make sure I was doing it correctly and the seat height was appropriate. My parents have been taking their bikes here for years to get repaired. I took my sons tricycle this morning here for the first time to get a pedal put back on and they were so amazing! They quickly figured out a way to fix it even though they first said they didn't know if they had the exact part needed. Then they said it was such a quick fix it was free of charge just remember them in the future. You don't get service like that these days! read more

I wrote a review and some how it was delated. This is a great example of how a business should treat its customers. I first came across Retro Xpress driving by often down Victory Blvd. One day I needed a bike for work and decided to stop by. Both the owner and his partner were very helpful. They gave me a great deal on a new mountain bike and supplies. A week later I had some issues with the bike. I went back expecting for them to shine me on and charge me extra money. To my surprise they fixed the problem and did not ask for a dime. WOW!. A few days latter I had some more issues. I went back this time I expected to pay out of pocket. Instead both Nester and his partner helped me out and sent me on my way. This happened once again with the same result. These guys were great, very Knowledgable and honest. The guys working with them love what they do and you can tell that they all take pride in their work. I never, and I mean never, write reviews but these guys deserve one from me. Honestly, It was one of the best decisions I've made. Great place to rent bikes. Came here yesterday before CycLaVia for a last minute rental. They didn't have much to choose from so they built me a bike in like 10min and I was on my way. Awesome service! I didn't get the guy's name but he was great! He answered my questions about fixies and hooked it up. He changed my bike's tire, changed it from fixed gear to freewheel (I'm a beginner), the brake, and the tape on the handle bar when all I came in for was a new tire. I highly recommend this place. I just got a new bike and I was taking it out for my first ride. My front disc breaks were making noise I wanted to get it looked at. I remembered a small bike shop on Victory & Van Nuys. I bought a garage sale bike for a song but the brakes seized up a few weeks later. I had driven by Retro Xpress in the past and once even donated some bike gloves and misc gear I had outgrown. (I think they work with some local youth so I figured they could pass this stuff on.) I drive past this place every day and it's always busy, so when I decided to buy a bike for my fiance for his birthday, of course I stopped by to see what their service is like. First, Nestor greeted me as soon as I walked up, even though he was helping a customer before me, which I liked. He soon helped me find a great bike within my budget, was friendly, knowledgeable, and worked quickly to help me. I got out of there within 20 minutes with a great bike *which my fiance LOVED* for a great price, feeling well taken care of! Grand baby's jogging stroller had a flat and these nice guys fixed it in 5 minutes! They had the right size tube and were very efficient. And then they only charged me $10, their special stroller rate. I highly recommend them, on Victory near corner of Van Nuys Blvd. But get them well before 4:00 as they lose their street parking from 4:00 to 6:00. read more

A couple of weeks ago, the right brake handle just fell off my bike's handlebar without warning. I found Lester and his team on my way home and was thrilled with his friendliness, professionalism and quality of service.
