We really love Northfield and have been at just about every place in town. This is a great new addition and in my opinion what Northfield needed. The Ole store is amazing but lacks atmosphere. Reunion Blends the two together and does a really good job. Definitely more of a cocktail bar/ restaurant feel. A little pricey, not but that's about all I can critique. Update: I dropped my initial rating from a 5 to a 4. Still pretty good place but for the prices and portions Ratio, and the service being a little on the slow side and not overly attentive I was hoping for more considering what you pay. We went back for a second visit. Started with the chips and dip. Dips were very good but the portions for the dips was 1/2 of what it should of been. We had a 1/2 basket of chips and were told if we wanted more salsa or queso dip we would have to order the whole appetizer again. We also ordered the street tacos. It comes as a group of 3 tacos and when you break it down it's four bucks for each taco. They're decent, not great and fairly small. Laurie was our server and did a great job. This was the second time in the past3 weeks that I ordered a steak (New York Strip and Porterhouse). The steak was tasty but very gristley in both cases. We checked this place out for the first time and it certainly was better than we expected! Their menu had a few unique options, which I always appreciate. Hubby and I split the Whiskey Chicken sandwich with Smoked Chicken Wild Rice Soup and the Bacon Onion Dip. The bacon onion dip was fantastic, I would highly recommend that. The whiskey chicken was really good as well. It didn't blow me away, but I also didn't have any complaints about it: chicken was good, bun was nice and soft; all around a solid sandwich. The wild rice soup was also solid. My biggest complaint was sitting in the first booth in the dining room, there was like a constant light breeze from a vent which was a bit of a nuisance on a cold day, so it just made it a bit harder to relax and be comfortable, but not a huge deal. Went to the reunion restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. The food was ok but the service was poor. The male host that seated us never spoke even after we told him we were meeting 2 others. Our waitress was similar in very little communication not a hello or anything. Out of the 4 people we had contact with that worked there 1 was friendly. This was my first time eating at Reunion since they reopened. Also my first time since being on a special diet. They nailed it! I feel like I'm walking on cloud nine! My meal was tasty and filling'! Went to Reunion tonight with family for drinks. We sat in the bar area with the male bartender as our server. He came over after awhile and asked how we were. We all answered "good" and were about to start with our drink orders as you would... he rudely interrupted and said "I'm good, thanks for asking" (in a sarcastic/rude tone) because we never asked how we was. We brushed it off thinking it was a joke, but wasn't. Then later on when the check came, we asked him to stay at the table so he could just take the card with him when he walked back. He said "did you just say Stay? Like I'm a dog?" And then proceeded to go back behind the bar and yell across the bar to our table "you should work on your vocabulary". VERY INAPPROPRIATE! First of all, I really wanted to give this 4 stars and think it has the potential to get there if I go back. I loved the building, ambiance, decor(think old brick, rustic modern) and nicely plated dishes. Definitely my style that I enjoy. However, the food itself wasn't what I was expecting.At least not compared to similar style restaurants in downtown or North loop.. I feel like if I ordered something else I would have been more pleased. Started with beef tip street tacos. The meat was dry and didn't have much flavor. The shells look like flour but are corn. That's my bad for not noticing that on the menu and asking for alternative shell. I'm not a huge corn shell fan. I did however love the slaw, jalapeño, and aoli toppings. So good! Husband had the short ribs, he said they were ok but didn't get a very good cut of meat. Lots of gristle. I really wanted to order the scallops-(I seriously order them anywhere I go that has them on the menu)but it said cherry marmalade on them.. Unfortunately, I do not like Cherry. I also love brussel sprouts but this place makes them with Amaretto. I know... I know I'm picky this is my issue not the restaurant's. Instead of asking to alter those dishes I went with the crab stuffed shrimp. Crab filling was good but the shrimp itself was tough and chewy, cooked too long. A few were extremely salty tasting which I found odd. I like lots of salt so when I think there is too much it must be a lot. For my sides I had the caesar salad and wild rice risotto. I enjoyed both. Honestly, I think some of my favorite dishes at this place are flavored in ways I'm not a fan of-- but don't let that stop you. I definitely would recommend this place if you are in the Northfield area. I plan to go back and order some other options and can hopefully bump my rating up to a 4 star. Fingers crossed! read more

For example, they have the Ode to the Rube, a modified Ruben sandwich. First of of all, it is on a bland white hoagie type bun. BLAND. Then the corner beef is shredded. That is ok. But it was pretty bland. It had some kind of slaw rather than sauerkraut.... You guessed it, bland. And what ever dressing was on it was minimal and I couldn't taste it. I ate less than half of my sandwich. The fries were decent, but I did chuckle at the pretentious French name. I didn't eat all of them either. I was told the cheese isn't melted on the grilled cheese.... Confusing. Others in my party had soup, steak sandwiches, and burgers. I noticed several of them got to-go boxes. The serving sizes were generous. The place looked nice, but it is loud. It was pretty impossible to talk to people at the other end of the table (3 people to a side). My aunt's favorite restaurant in Northfield and I can see why. We recently had lunch and she told me a lot of its history when it had been The Rueb'n'Stein decades ago. The owner stopped by our table and they shared some memories from back in the day. The renovations are fantastic. The shrimp pasta had a wonderful non-dairy broth and was delicious. Reunion is just getting off the ground, so we're prepared to forgive it a few bumps and will be back in a few weeks to try it again. It's a nice addition to the Northfield restaurant scene. The decor is terrific -- very inviting, very open, with good natural light. The staff is young -- pleasant, earnest, eager -- and does a decent job given their collective lack of restaurant experience. It took longer than it should have to get our drinks. Management, take note: the sooner we get our drinks, the more drinks we're likely to order. Also, please provide a wine list and a beer list. It took unnecessary time for our server to tell us what our options were. Put a price on your cocktails so we don't waste time asking -- it looks a little weird that everything else on the (dog-eared, photocopied) menu has a price but the drinks don't. And Jesse's Girl? (Rum-based drink) Skip it. In terms of price point, Reunion seems trying to compete locally with the Ole Store. The quality isn't quite on par yet. Our dinner was pretty much what we'd expect from an off-night at an Axel's Bonfire Grill. The spinach salad comes with a generous portion of spinach, and the added salmon was likewise generous. The salmon was cooked with too much oil or butter and had a greasy mouthfeel but was otherwise fine. The salad was missing the pea pods. The idea of coating the goat cheese medallions in crushed almonds is an excellent one. Given the quality of fresh goat cheese in the area, the goat cheese itself should have tasted better. I ended up electing to eat around it, and I'm normally a huge goat cheese fan. The basil vinaigrette was delightful, so overall I'd say that the salad has promise. The steak sandwich was perfectly done and quite tasty. The Parmesan fries were nothing to write home about -- the cheese was unequally distributed -- but were good with the sandwich. I'm not sure Northfield is ready to have to pay for bread with dinner given the price of most meals at Reunion. It'll be interesting to see how long that policy lasts, given that feeding diners a bit of bread or crackers (or olives, or nuts) upon their arrival increases the likelihood of more drinks being ordered. We weren't terribly interested in the dessert options so left without dessert. It would have been nice to read descriptions, or see what the desserts looked like. Normally, I can easily be talked into at least sharing a dessert, so I expect I'll probably try a Reunion dessert at some point in the future. Nice cocktail selection. Service was hurried on arrival. Short rib special was the worst piece of meat I have ever been served in a restaurant. No meat only large pieces of fat on the short rib bone. Meat only in small part of serving was only strands in fat. Vegetables with the plate were cold. Very disappointing.
