The food here delicious. There is no mistaking that, HOWEVER as of today and the writing of this review (10/30/2024) the prices (listed on their Google menu site) are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. Chicken and waffles is $28 A half chicken is $22 Half rack of ribs is $39 WHICH EXCLUDES THE SIDES!!!! Go down the street to a Southern BBQ place known as C &G's Smoking Barbecue and you'll see: Whole slab of ribs $28.50 Whole chicken $20 And sides are also additional but only $2-3 each. Revival's food is very good, but there are other MUCH more affordable and just as good options out there. I was going to end on a play-on-words... but what's the opposite of the word Revival??? It's too scary to type...
Revival is such a solid restaurant. I can't believe I've lived here for as long as I have without trying it. FOOD: I got the chicken plate with white meat. It comes with coleslaw and cornbread. It was very good, although I envied the choice of the brisket or pulled pork plate/platter. I overlooked these other options because sometimes the meat isn't that great, but here it looked incredible. AMBIANCE: it's a small, cozy, comfortable restaurant. Good for time with friends, a date, or a work meal. There was one table in the sun all evening and of course that was ours (so steer clear of that around sunset) but otherwise was great. PARKING: they have a small lot and there's street parking nearby SERVICE: a little slow but friendly and helpful.
The food was SO GOOD! I'm from Alabama and just moved here and been LOOKING for a place to get some soul food. Everything was 5 stars except maybe the collard greens. But everyone else on the table loved their chicken and waffles and sides. The Mac and cheese was perfect! The drink was refreshing and chicken was seasoned . Will definitely be coming back!
Brisket GAS. Such wonderful flavors. We tried a little of everything. The biscuits were moist. The chicken was slap yo momma tender. The drinks were unmatched. The service was amazing and the vibes were beaming.
My friends described our brunch with words like these: "some of the best fried chicken I've had in the cities," "I would make a meal of just those biscuits," and "my bbq pulled pork sandwich had bones or cartilage or something in it." Personally, I had the chicken and waffles, and fair enough, the chicken was on the bone. I didn't expect that but it was tasty (even at $21). We also had cocktails which were very yummy. The server was really cool and very kind with recommendations. We were shocked to find the place mostly empty on a Sunday morning- could have been the snow. I should warn you about the music, in case you're someone who cares, it was filled with profanity. Some folks might not want to hear songs about pu**y while eating breakfast. /shrug/ All this to say I'll def be back. The food and atmosphere were bomb.
Southern cooking is the reason to check out Revival. The weather didn't allow outdoor seating yet so we cozied up in the dining area. Liked the welcoming vibe. Good mixture of date night and groups of friends at the tables. Since this was my first time here, I had to choose the chicken dinner, southern fried, white meat. It came with slaw and a corn bread muffin. Loved the batter on the chicken. The chicken was so moist and juicy. Great meal. Husband had the pork shoulder sandwich. It was also excellent. Great flavor on the pork and he loved the KC sweet BBQ sauce. It did not come with sides so he ordered a shareable side of Mac n cheese. It had a nice crispy crust on top and lots of cheese and cork screw noodles. Since it was happy hour, we started with some $5 cheese curds. They had a sprinkle of honey on them. Had not had them served like that before and it was a fun option. I would love to give a 5 rating but I knocked down one because my wine pour was a bit ridiculous. I would be surprised if there was even 5oz of wine in the glass for a happy hour price of $11. I also had a blood orange margarita and that was not only beautiful but also very tasty. Parking was on street. There is a lot that currently fits 4 cars. Service was good. Note there is a service fee of 6% that is not part of tip.
Wow wow wow. As to be expected, Revival has done it yet again with their newest addition Revival Smoked Meats. A beautiful, open and bright space with a gorgeous outdoor patio. Lots of wood and plants make the space feel like home. The food is absolutely INCREDIBLE. We started with the Drop Biscuits. The order comes with 2 huge biscuits and come out warm and fresh with a flaky, buttery exteriors and soft, melt in your mouth interior. Soooo good. For my entree I went with the Chopped Brisket Sammie. This sandwich came stacked to the moon with a mountain of tender brisket. I absolutely cannot wait to get back and enjoy more of their smoked meats. Do not hesitate. You are not going to be disappointed. Well done, Revival!
Emma our server was fantastic! She answered all of my questions and gave me recommendations, which were spot on! The cheese curds with honey were to die for, but the best item that we had was by far the waffle... It was light fluffy, and the most delicious waffle I've ever had ! we will definitely be back.
I usually don't have high expectations for fried chicken but wow I was impressed. The chicken was juicy and crispy and the half chicken definitely gets you the best bang for your buck. I got the Nashville hot flavor; while it wasn't overtly spicy, it definitely had some kick to it. The pickles were a nice addition to the dish. The pickle is a sweet pickle with a slight tang and was very complimentary to the chicken. Everything is a la carte so you'll have to order sides but I highly recommend the Mac and cheese and the biscuits. The mac was a little too runny than I prefer but it was still very good. The biscuits were soft and flakey; the butter that came with the biscuits was a honey butter that was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend Revival to anyone that's looking for a delicious chicken experience. Our waitress was also awesome when it came to recommending food and sides. I don't remember her name but she was an absolute delight.
The Mac and Cheese was a little too runny and thus lacking flavor. The burger was good but the bun was way too sweet. Even the Cajun fries had too much sweetness in it in my opinion because why should they have sweetness? At any rate I would give every item a 8.75/10
Visited Revival for National Fried Chicken day. The chicken came out quick. It was good, not heavy seasoned but good, wry moist and was brined. The collards were good also, a little vinegary but good. I would have liked a little more grits with my cheese, but they were good also. I wanted to complain about the seasoning, or the vinegar, or the grits, but I found myself eating everything and enjoying it. They cooked the food in their style and I liked it. I'll be back in the future and I'll probably order the same stuff.
Food was delicious if you are craving southern cooking. Everything was piping hot and fresh. The brussel sprouts are a must - they have so much depth of flavor - sweet, salty, crunchy, tart! Chicken was perfectly crispy and tender inside. The cheddar biscuits are also a must holy cow! Service was very attentive, kind and helpful. The place is small but doesn't feel crowded. Cute and funky decor.
Southern fried chicken -although the chicken came warm, it's still tasty and tender. Crunchy on the outside and lightly flavored. The half bird is enough to feed 2. Will try the Nashville hot if the mood strikes again. The front seemed vague on some things I asked. If the chicken were hot , man it would be soo good. There is a 20% service charge added to the bill.
Revival fried chicken is the bomb! I yelped best restaurants looked for those within my budget and hello there was Revival. Customer service was superb, chicken was good as I've said, and sauces were all tasty. I opt for the chicken fried pork free oil since I don't eat pork. My husband on the other hand went for the original recipe fried chicken he love it. Mac and cheese was good but collard greens was better. I really appreciate them catering to those with dietary restrictions that being said, should I find myself in the Minnesota area again I'll definitely be revisiting. read more

Really good fried chicken but my favorite things here are actually the sides/appetizers. Great cheese curds, fantastic hush puppies, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy!! read more
Mmmm this place is so bomb, I always thought fried chicken taste the same but revival is no KFC or Popeyes my friends, it is most definitely worth the hype! I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and upon arriving we thought the location was a bit small and stuffy, also had a weird funk to it... kind of a turn off, but luckily didn't turn us away; in fact we were pretty content with the choice! We got in with no reservation and got seated pretty quickly, the server was really informative when she was telling us about the menu and the spice levels of the sauce/seasoning. Bf eats real spicy shit and I don't eat spicy very much at all so we always order separately for things with a spice option. He got the Tennessee hot and I got the regular just incase it was too much heat, turns out it wasn't and we would've just ordered the whole chicken for $28 instead of half for $16 each, but whatever both were fantastic. The breading was crispy and the chicken was tender and juicy! The sides were great as well.. never had collard greens before, but now I'm convinced I need it as a side for every time I eat fried chicken, the hush puppies and mac n cheese were pretty self explanatory (so good, duh). Overall experience was great but the only thing I regret was not giving that chicken 100% because oh you know.... Vikings player Stefon Diggs was seated right next to us!! Heyyyo!!! Boyfriend was so distracted he couldn't eat (ugh) being fan girls we quickly got a pic with him (nice man) so we can get back to the chicken lol that was def the cherry on top tho! Met some friends at 1pm on a Sunday for lunch. The wait was only 30 minutes so we grabbed a Miel at the coffee shop Nextdoor-yum!! Loud and crammed, like usual. We've been told by numerous people that they are going to expand into the adjacent building but never seems to happen. I love small gems, but no reservations and crazy wait times often take this off the list of dining options. The dining space is very small. We had four adults, a 3 year old and infant. The "six" person table barely fit two adults and a toddler on the booth section...if it were adults, we would have been cheek to cheek with the neighboring table. The food... Lunch was on point and delicious! We got a half bird, white coleslaw, Mac and cheese, biscuits and tomatoes. The chicken is amazing, every time it's fabulous. You cannot go wrong. The coleslaw was pretty spicy from copious amounts of pepper. I loved it but there were several that said it was too powerful. The mac is yummy and rich. Not very big for a portion. The biscuits are good, but not amazing like the chicken. They are also WAY overpriced, $6 for two biscuits is a little bonkers. The service was just okay. We didn't get a lot of tlc and often were out of beverages with no one to be seen. It was also difficult for our server to deliver the food because of the crammed quarters. Turn the a/c ON. It's toasty warm in this place and we've always thought that. We love this place. Food is always stellar. The challenge I have with having this on the regular rotation of awesomeness...the wait times are usually absurd and it's hard to make plans to eat here unless you want to eat lunch at 3pm. Alright Revival, you did it again. Came in with a group of eight on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered chicken, hush puppies, mac & cheese, coleslaw, Johnny cakes, fried green tomatoes, pickles, biscuits and one slice of all three pies - banana cream, Smore, blueberry rhubarb. The service was top-notch like always. The chicken was good, but not as good as I remember. However, this was the first time I ordered desserts. There will never be another time when I don't order desserts. The pies were out of this world outstanding! And, what made it even better was that they were also very different from one another. The banana cream is flavorful and the cream on top is the best. The Smore pie was dense and chocolatey and Rich. The blueberry rhubarb was perfect for a summer day. Thanks Revival! read more

I have been to both the Mpls and St. Paul location numerous times and ordered to-go. The chicken is delicious and probably the best fried chicken the twin cities has to offer. I do think that there's a difference in the chicken depending on the location you go to-I personally think the fried chicken at the MPLS location is better. It's consistently good, whereas the St. Paul location location is hit or miss. Both the regular and TN hot are good. I prefer spicy-it definitely has a kick. Dip it in the sweet potato hot sauce and your taste buds will be so happy! If you have tried hot chicken from TN, don't expect it to be the same. I believe the St. Paul location has a bigger menu that includes brisket-I would recommend getting this, It's delicious, especially with their sweet potato hot sauce. Their mac and cheese is cheesy perfection and their biscuits- yum (you will want extra honey butter!) The service is okay and I would prepare to wait a good 20-30 mins to get a table. read more
I'm going to generalize here - Asians love fried chicken, or at least I do! So happy to find a nice place to enjoy my guilty pleasure. This place takes no reservations, so be prepared to wait. We went for lunch on a Tuesday and it was packed even then! Opt for the bar over the table to get seated earlier, then you can peek into the kitchen and peek at all the food coming out. - Salad with crispy pigs ear, watercress, endives, honey + carrot dressing: See my picture, it looks as good as it tastes. Dressing is on the sweet side. - Half bird, Southern fried style: This was just right for two people. They give you a mix of white and dark meat. Comes with three different sauces. I've gotten Tennessee Hot style too but I feel that Southern Fried style allows you to enjoy the different sauces better. - Mac & Cheese: Best when eaten hot. The mac is super curly. I had it once and it was okay, next time I'll likely get something else. If the owners are reading, ever consider hot towels before/after the meal? There is only one bathroom and basically everyone has greasy hands after devouring their delish chicken, so get ready to wait again. The chicken is worth it! read more

While I've never attended an actual revival, I certainly understand the purpose: to bring more followers into the fold. To embrace and awaken. To save. Okay, so I'll just drop this. My sisters and our assorted families spent a Saturday mid-morning at Revival, the circumstances could've been better, we were gathered in Minneapolis to prepare and attend our father's memorial. There was a lot of love and sorrow and heavy history stuffed into Revival's teensy dining room, we waited about 40 minutes, all of us siblings sipped beers, our kids pretended to be patient. Eventually our ten-top was ready, we were hungry, we ordered more beer and once we got our hands on menus, well, we were... improper. Impolite, perhaps. Mac & cheese, pork rinds, grits & collard greens, biscuits, fried green tomatoes and platters of fried chicken, just these grand towers of salty spicy heaven. We told stories about him, our kids told stories about him, some good stories, some very sad stories, we just spat it out and then stuffed our faces and our servers kept bringing the beer, the canned stuff was better. My wife was the designated driver, thank God. I try to write useful reviews, can't do it with Revival. I want the owners and employees to know that our dining experience was about as spiritual as a seance could be. That food filled some empty souls, guys. I can't thank you enough. read more
Boy oh boy!!!! I have so many great things to say about this place. This was a cute little spot to eat for lunch. The food was beyond amazing and the staff was awesome. I ordered fried chicken, collard greens, Mac and cheese and cheddar biscuits. Although the Mac and cheese wasn't the best, everything was incredible. I instantly fell into a food comma. My friend ordered the cauliflower and that was amazing as well. I would definitely suggest this place if visiting Minneapolis. Be sure to park before the sign that says 30min parking. read more

Where to start? I've been wanting to try Revival for a long time. Today was the day and it was not a disappointment. Walked in and was greeted immediately I was told to sit anywhere Id like. I was given aa menu and I explained I was waiting on the beautiful Mrs. The interior was nice not over the top. The Mrs. arrived and the feeding frenzy started. We started with the fried green tomatoes. It came with 4 perfectly fried green tomatoes. They sat atop some pickle sauce. Well seasoned and very flavorful. On the side sat a nice little salad with thIn sliced radishes. The dressing was a buttermilk ranch that definitely tasted homemade. We got the chicken and waffle breakfast sandwich along with the half bird to share. Now I thought I've had great fried chicken until today. Today I had the best. Perfectly fried. Juicy meat, crispy not over cooked skin. We also got the white cheddar grits. Good consistency and perfect flavor. I'm not a huge grits fan but this makes me like them even more. We also got some hush puppies. Perfect sweetness with a great dipping sauce. Now the chicken and waffle sandwich was mind blowing. Perfectly cooked chicken. Light and fluffy waffle. The added honey butter and just the right amount of maple syrup made me want to order another to bring home. They don't take reservations and we have tried to eat here during busy times. AMAZING FOOD!!! The food here is soooo delicious, I absolutely love this restaurant. It is super small and gets crowded very quickly but it's definitely worth it!! The staff is always friendly and the service is quick. The cheese curds were surprisingly delicious for a southern comfort food restaurant. The chicken here is amazing no matter how you order it and my waffle was perfection. The biscuits were nothing special but went well with the food! read more

After long anticipation, my boyfriend and I finally made it out here on a Tuesday night to check out what all the rave about this place was. He loves fried chicken and was super excited to give this place a try. We tried a whole myriad of different foods and at the end, I can't say that anything was memorable or truly lived up to it's name of being the "best fried chicken" or "best mac and cheese in town". There was nothing wrong with our food, but also nothing that stood out. Tennessee Hot Fried Chicken -- I've seen some reviews mentioning that their Tennessee Hot fried chicken was not spicy enough. We love spicy food but even at that, we felt like ours was over the top spicy. It was not only hard to finish the entire half-bird because of how spicy it was, but it also ruined the taste of a lot of other dishes with such a spicy mouth. The chicken was juicy and breading was okay. It didn't come out hot, temperature-wise; just slightly warm. It wasn't anything special or different from fried chicken that I can find basically anywhere else. Revival Burger -- I saw lots of raving reviews about being the "best burger in town" so I had to give this a try. It definitely did not live up to it's name. There was nothing great about it and the patty seemed of poor quality and not house made. Maybe it was, but it seemed like the type of patties that I can get a fast food restaurant. The cheese also tasted like the cheap Singles Kraft cheese that kids put in their sandwiches. It just didn't stand out, there are so many other places I would go first for a burger. Sides -- Mac and cheese was crunchy on top and soft on the inside. This was probably the highlight of my meal, but even though I thought it was really great, I didn't think it was the "best in town" or anything that I would come back specifically for this. Hush puppies were crunchy and also had a little sweetness to it. They were good and the sauce that comes with it gives it a good touch. I also ordered a sweet tea. The sweet tea was extremely sweet and I ended up pouring water in it just to offset how sweet it was. Again, nothing about it stood out. I went to Minnesota on a college visit with my sister and asked for food recommendations from a friend. She told us to come here and told me that we would not be disappointed. She was absolutely right! This place is so cute and homey, not to mention the service was great! (I can't remember my server's name though). My sister, friend and I got a half fried chicken to share as well as a side of Mac and cheese. The fried chicken was fried to perfection, perfectly cooked all the way through! It was crunchy and golden brown on the outside and the meat was moist and so tender on the inside. The Mac and cheese was a little smaller than we were expecting, but it was a yummy side to go along with the chicken. We will definitely be back whenever we are in town! read more

If you've had real southern food, you'll be disappointed here. I've heard so much hype about this place and been meaning to come here for so long, when I finally got a table, I was let down. First off, getting a table is a nightmare. Granted we did come on a Friday evening, but holy hell. They don't do reservations. They use the NoWait app, but you have to check in in person; there is no option to get a place in line using the app (which imo defeats the purpose). Had to wait 45 min to get a table, and according to friends that's unusually short. Food was overpriced and not very good. Chicken didn't blow me away. Okay crispy but meat is dry and overcooked. My friend got the chicken and waffles, and the maple syrup isn't true syrup (her dad produces syrup himself). Although the waffle was pretty good. Collard greens are sweet (!?) which was off putting. However, there were some redeeming qualities. The drinks were really good (sour beer and pear cider) and the appetizers were tasty. We got the cheese curds and the brussel sprouts. Table sauces were decently spicy and went well with the chicken. All in all, will not return. Not worth the hassle or the price. read more

For 4 people, we got the full chicken, brisket, and a bunch of sides. I ordered the chicken based on the server's recommendation: Tennessee hot. I didn't care for it. I suggest doing the southern fried rub. The presentation was lovely. It came stacked in a pyramid of fried chicken. The brisket was nothing special. It was 2 Alana of what looked like well done steak. When I think of brisket, I think of pulled meat. Ok now for the sides. I'm a side snob. Here is my order of preference: 1) bourbon carrots!!! Omg I dream of this each night! 2) Mac and cheese 3) corn bread 4) candied yams 5) collard greens - kinda boring 6) hush puppies - my mom wanted it; it's too sweet for me. read more

I had friends raving about this place, so I was excited I finally got to try it. "Feeling hot, hot, hot! " Yup, that was what I said when I had the Tennessee Hot chicken from Revival. The one thing I would say is that some of the hot spice took away from the deep seasoning I think the chicken should have had from being brined but maybe that is not the way that type of chicken is usually prepared. When eating out, I try to balance my expectations with how I would cook at home as opposed to how restaurants operate for the masses but this is one thing I think is important to note. When I clean chicken, I take the feathers that are left on the skin off or burn them off because that is just icky when I eat if there are hints of feathers on the skin. I know this is harder to consistently do at a restaurant given the demanding and stressful conditions among other things they balance but I would highly recommend working to take off feathers on the skin even if you think the sauce will cover it up. I am mentioning this because I ran into a couple of these bad boys and had to just cut those parts off so I wouldn't gag. Besides that occasional issue, the chicken was good. After eyeing the dishes on other patrons tables, I made sure to also order some sides such as the buttery biscuits, mac and cheese and hush puppies which I shared it with a friend. I was glad that I told our waitress I planned to take the other half of my meal to go. It made it easier to practice portion control since the order or hush puppies were much larger than I anticipated. The service was great, super present and attentive. The unisex bathroom was clean and I liked the cloth hand towels. Nice touch ! read more

Visiting from our of town and so I googled best burger in Minneapolis and found them on the EATER website. There were. Few burgers that looked a bit flashy which usually means ALL HYPE. #5 on the list was Revival and the burger just stuck our at me. It wasnt a crazy burger it didn't have a bunch of BS in it. Meat, cheese, Bacon's and buns. Came in on a Monday at 1:30 and it was calm and semi busy. I was immediately seated at the bar and given some recommendations. I went with the double burger with bacon, Mac and cheese, and the beer battered curds. The Cheese curds: nothing crazy, it was delicious and a good amount as a great appetizer. I recommend The Mac and cheese: the crunch from the top layer was so good. I only wish I added bacon because bacon is life and there's is amazing. I recommend ( they have 2 sauces, the one that's a vinegar oil is AMAZING. add it to everything) The burger: HOLY S**T. it was simple yes so delicious. Their beef has bits of sirloin in and that was to die for. The bacon was thick and flavorful. It wasn't crunchy or tiny. It was BACON. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Service: my waitress was nice, helpful, friendly, and patient as it was my first time. She helped in telling me her favorites and customer favorites. She recommend I double up the patties and I'm glad I did. There was also. Gentlemen who made some small talk and made me feel more welcome. GREAT STAFF. The Point: Get in here. Tell all your friends. Try the burger. I will be back the next time I'm in town to try the chicken waffles which looked great. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The sides come in ramekins. We had cheesy grits, red beans & rice, and green beans with bacon. We did the whole chicken, southern fried style. Great food! Finally! This restaurant has been on my list for some time now and did not dissapoint. We came here with another couple and had about a 20 minute wait at 4:00 p.m. I heard about the long wait time no matter what time you get here, so this was a delightful surprise. Be mindful, however, that this place is small, so you will be sitting pretty close to your neighbor. Okay, now to the food. Since there were four of us, we all wanted to split dishes and try a little of everything. Here's a breakdown of what we ordered: Grits: Creamy, cream-of-wheat texture and had a nice buttery finish. Hush puppies: Eh. Wasn't too impressed. Bland in flavor, but the sauce that comes with them gives a little kick. Bread and butter pickles: Delicious. Crunchy texture and had a perfect balance of salty and sweet. Cheeseburger: Oh, man. This burger is incredible here. We added bacon to ours, because, health. The burger is cooked perfectly and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture with cheesy goodness oozing out. A little on the salty side, but still delicious. Mac and cheese: Soo good! Perfect portion for two and is creamy, cheesy and had a crunchy breadcrumb-like topping. Fried chicken: Wow! I am not a big fried chicken girl, but this chicken is awesome. We opted for the Tennessee hot and had just the right amount of kick to it. The skin on the outside is crispy and full of flavor. The inside was juicy and delicious. Couple other notes: They also have a nice selection of tap beers, wines and cocktails. Parking is on the street, but we had no issue finding a spot. Revival is worth the hype, people.
