I hadn't been to Rex's Hamburgers in years, but I was craving a burger and figured it was time to revisit this Albuquerque staple. The customer service is some of the best in town, which makes the experience even better. I ordered the bacon green chile cheeseburger with fries, a Dr Pepper, and of course, their famous applesauce. I was so excited to try this place because my family has come here for years. When I received my burger for take out yesterday (March 10th, 2026) at around 3:30pm, my burger had a piece of plastic from their buns in it. The service was great but this is very dangerous mistake to overlook. If a child or senior bit into this they could have choked! Luckily, I saw it as I was taking a bite. This really grossed me out though, so I couldn't finish the burger. I don't think I would recommend eating here anymore when there are better, less outdated, places to get a burger in Albuquerque. I just left a review of Santiago's for their green Chile cheeseburger...and next comes Rex's. If you haven't had Rex's then you NEED to make a trip here. The milkshake machine is hit or miss, but if you're not a burger / milkshake person - you're not missing out. The fries are perfectly crispy and go well with the green Chile cheeseburger. You can taste the history of the burger in each bite. Whatever grill they use is holding all of that flavor haha Be sure to check out Rex's! With all the new burger restaurants and burger trends popping up, it's easy to forget that you've already had access to great burgers for decades. Rex's is exactly that place! The people are super friendly, the dining room is clean and not overly lit, the prices are amongst the lowest in town, and the knowledge of what they're doing and how to serve it is excellent. From the outside it was hard to get vibe of how the food will be. The location is a little hidden from the street, but once inside I was greeted kindly. I enjoyed a double stack bacon green chile cheeseburger. The solo onion ring was fun to eat alongside the perfectly cooked fries. I tried Rex's again as they are one of the places I really like for burgers. My burger was delicious as usual. Of course I got the green chile cheeseburger, which is my standard around town, and it tasted delicious as always. My onion rings were a little under done this time. I only got three of them and they were chewy instead of crisp and hot. So that was a little disappointing. I've noticed their portioning has gotten quite a bit smaller and while I do understand it, they don't give you as much food as many of the other burger places around town. Rex's is still tasty and still a place from which I will order from time to time. Hopefully next time the onion rings will be a little bit better and they'll be a few more of them. I'm a little worried about them given that I got the wrong order a couple weeks ago and now the chewy onion rings. I hope they can improve a little bit. Otherwise I'm afraid they may be losing some of their longtime customers like me. I'm still gonna give them another shot though because they're local, I've eaten there for decades, and I love them. We sat down but and the food came out super fast. I noticed an unauthorized charge on my card from Rex's Hamburgers and immediately called to inquire. The person who claimed to be the manager was instantly rude and condescending. Before I could even explain the situation, he began interrupting and yelling that it "wasn't their problem" and to call my bank and hung up on me. I simply asked if they could check their credit card receipts to help identify the charge, but instead of assisting, he continued to talk over me as if I were a child. I wasn't terribly hungry so I was glad to see something lighter for me on the menu. The frjto pie caught my eye! The bf went their Garver burger! It's a big one two! Came fully loaded with two patties, cheese, bacon, sautéed onions, green chile and garnish of course. It's been a while since I've been here. Probably at least a couple years. It's still just as solid as I remember. Burgers are big and juicy and loaded with toppings. The staff was all very friendly, they checked on us while we ate and took our plates when we were done with them. They all said thank you when we left. An amazing old school and I do mean old school hamburger joint. In a strip mall with a small understated sign so hard to spot but lots of parking. Order at the counter and then they bring it out to you. Lots of classic posters and movie posters on the wall. Retro before retro was cool. We both had burgers and fries. I ordered a meal by way of DoorDash and did not receive what I had ordered. Additionally, my order was in no way sealed (bag stapled or tied) to indicate it had not been tampered with. When I called and politely provided the information I was hung up on. When I called back to state that I was not expecting any sort of compensation or rectification and that I merely wanted to let them know what had happened as a way to proceed opportunity to improve I was rudely told, then just don't order from us again if you weren't happy. I have come Rex's since 1976, when my husband Steve brought me to the state fair when we first started dating. Rex has a hamburger stand every year at the state fair since 1971. Today we wanted something to eat while we were up here in the Heights waiting for my daughter-in-law to have her baby. I told Steve Rex Burgers right around the corner. Rex's is a fun little neighborhood burger joint. They can be a little hard to find as their signage is sort of swallowed up in the strip mall, but once you do get there, you'll be happy. Rex's serves burgers and some basic Mexican food (tacos and burritos). I enjoy their four pack of tacos, but they are traditional hard shell, beef, cheese, and garnish. The burgers are really why you go to Rex's. You can buy the burger by itself or as a combo. The combo includes fries, applesauce or vanilla pudding, and an onion ring. (The onion rings are great, by the way.) The burgers are fresh, juicy, and very tasty. I really like the green chili cheeseburger. They have a monster burger that sounds delicious, but I do t think I could eat it all. I highly recommend Rex's! read more

I tried to try Rex's for the first time this evening. When we pulled up it looked closed because the parking lot was basically empty. Outside the restaurant were two tables on the sidewalk with cheap plastic deck chairs for seating. When we walked in, we weren't sure if we sat ourselves or waited to be sat. The cook looked at us and flicked his head toward an empty ordering counter farther inside the restaurant. No greeting, smile, or other acknowledgment of any kind. There were only two other patrons in the entire restaurant sharing a booth. A server was cleaning a table, then headed behind the ordering counter. Again, no greeting, smile, or acknowledgement of any kind. The phone rang and she answered it. We didn't get a "I'll be right with you; I've gotta take this call." After standing there for a bit, we decided we'd spend our money elsewhere. Why eat at a grease burger joint when you can't even get the employees to acknowledge you? Given there was a 1:1 ratio of employees to patrons (besides us), staffing wasn't an issue. They just don't seem to give a darn whether you're there or not, so we chose to leave. There are plenty of other burger dives that will take my money. It made sense why the parking lot and restaurant were empty. read more
