My friend and i ate here based on the reviews and will say i would normally give this 2 stars BUT the service was so outstanding that I bumped it up to 3. First impression walking in was NOT great. We immediately smelled what can only be described as a VERY DIRTY bathroom smell. Other than the smell which we couldn't stop smelling until we ate and had some wine. The server was great to let us know that it was half off bottles of wine. And since the glass we initially wanted they didn't have this was a great option for us. We weren't able to finish the bottle so the server closed it up and sealed it in a bag for us to take with us. (Tuscan blend which was delicious) We ordered the Lobster Bisque to share to start with. The server/kitchen were kind enough to split it for us into two bowls. Overall the soup was good but NOT great. Then we ordered a bone in Ribeye (22oz) which came with crispy new potatoes and some some sautéed brocollini. We ordered the steak Medium Rare, it came out Medium + and since we were never checked in with on the temperature we ate it anyhow. The flavor was good but definitely far overcooked. The crispy new potatoes were perfectly crispy and the broccolini was sautéed and cooked very well. At the end of the day the service saved our experience. My wife loved the filet, and it was better than our "gold standard" steakhouses. I enjoyed the shrimp linguini. It wasn't just jumbo shrimp, but there were also BONUS SHRIMPIES in the spicy sauce! My review has to do with the management more so than the food. I booked New Year's Eve reservations in October. On the evening of 12/30, the restaurant called to inform me that they would not be offering their regular menu but a "New Year's Eve Menu" with a very limited amount of choices. The night before New Year's Eve they call to change the menu? I wouldn't have made the reservation if I knew this. If I didn't want the limited menu, where was I going to go. All the other places are booked up. So we honored our reservation and went. We arrived at 6:30 and the restaurant was chaos. The servers didn't know what tables were assigned to them, the service was slow, and people were actually walking out. It was obvious that they could not handle the crowd for the holiday. Luckily, we were able to grab a fantastic server walking by who understood what was going on, asked us for our patience, and made our dinner enjoyable under the circumstances. She even bought us a round of drinks to make up for the problems. To be honest, the food that they served was very good, not what we wanted but very good. It's just too bad that the management didn't do a better job in making sure his restaurant was ready for a holiday crowd. read more

Tuesday dinner and Service was great. Waiter and busboy were quick and friendly. More of a family restaurant than a steakhouse. They do have a full bar though. And the waiter let us know they have half price wine on Tuesdays. Had calamari for app which was good but make sure you ask for side of marinara as it only comes with aioli. Salmon was great. Served in a tomato garlic broth, really unique and good sized portion. Filet was solid. Only qualm was the bread, it was a sub roll with butter cubes. Absolutely delicious OMG! Celebrated my birthday at Reyes Steakhouse but I've been there many times and never disappoints! I'm always so excited to go back. They are hands down an amazing restaurant. Never going downtown again! Everything taste so fresh, so delicious and you can tell from every bite food is cooked with extremely high quality products. I crave the balsamic glaze grilled calamari appi, The porterhouse steak was chef kisse, the Sea bass is literately outstanding, fresh, delicious flavorful, and the Basque cheesecake might be the only reason I'll come back. Went there for an engagement celebration. We had an entire room to ourselves. The food was good and had some solid options from steak, fish and scallops. The risotto was creamy and delicious. My family and I always come here for send off dinners or to celebrate a special occasion and we are never disappointed. Still thinking about the filet mignon and mushroom risotto. We tried the mussels with the red sauce this time and also loved it. Mouth still watering just thinking about it. Definitely a nice establishment, love the staff. This review is a bit delayed because I had shared my feedback directly with the restaurant and was waiting to hear back from them which I never did. We've been wanting to dine at Reyes for a while based on reviews and recommendations from friends so we decided to book for New Year's Eve dinner. Based on our experience tonight, I'm not sure I would return. 1. We were not told it was going to be a prix fixe menu. It was not mentioned in my confirmation or anywhere on their website and there were items we wanted to try that were not part of the special menu. Not to mention that the prices were a good $10-$20 more per person than if we had ordered the same items a la carte. 2. Service was slow and inattentive. We waited at least 15 - 20 mins after we finished each course until the next course came out. We were never asked if we wanted to order a beverage. My friend had to go to the bar to order a cocktail because our waiter was nowhere to be found. It was about 10+ minutes before it even made its way to our table. There seemed to be plenty of staff but not much actual service. I would expect with a limited prix fixe menu things would have moved along a little quicker. Also, one of the bus boys must have had a nose bleed because he was walking around the dining room with tissue stuffed up his nose. This is not what you want to see when trying to have a nice dinner. Rather unappetizing and unsanitary. 3. Some of the food was good but found the steaks lacking. The garlic shrimp, lobster bisque, and calamari all get high marks. The filets were rather dry at medium rare and a good steak does not need to be smothered in demi glace. I would have preferred it on the side or with bearnaise sauce. Mushroom risotto was very good. If I didn't know better I would have thought this restaurant just opened because it definitely seemed like they were in over their heads. Never saw a manager on the floor and when we complained about it being a prix fixe menu, our waiter allegedly talked to the manager but never had them come out to talk to us. Overall a disappointing experience and a bad way to start the new year. read more

This spot is a hidden gem. We just moved to the area 2 years ago and I'm so pleased to find a spot like this nearby. It is a delicious steakhouse with great food and outstanding service. I wish I could remember our waiters name but he was an older gentleman and took great care of us. The only downside to our experience was we were sat right next to the bathroom. I love this restaurant! This is a cozy spot with excellent service, large portions and delicious food. Reyes Steakhouse is small, but you don't feel cramped. It has soft upbeat music playing. You don't have to strain to hear your partner talk. I was seated immediately when I arrived. Warm bread and water were served quickly. The waiter was prompt. I ordered the sea bass and Chardonnay. The wine was very good and the pour was generous. The sea bass was very large and perfectly prepared. I ordered the broccolini side. It was also just right. The dessert menu is large and varied. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but you do get what you pay for...seamless service, awesome food and a vibe that feels like you're in your element. I will be back! read more

I've got a mixed review and a suggestion or two. First, I made a reservation and when we arrived the hostess literally looked around saying she'd see if there was a table available. Suggestion: Don't take reservations if you won't have a table held. We sat down and waited far too long for a server to come by. Then we waited far too long for our drinks to be delivered but our server did stop by while we were waiting (far too long) to ask if everything was okay... Suggestion: Get the drinks delivered ASAP, you may get another round ordered. A loaf of bread was delivered. It was cold, so was the butter. Suggestion, Either don't serve bread at the table or put it in your oven for 2 minutes. The bread was a negative introduction to the food that was coming. Also, don't pull butter from a fridge, you can't spread it. Appetizer... 4 stars for the eggplant tower. Perfect for 2 people to share as there were 2 stacks. The eggplant was a bit overcooked but the fat cut of mozzarella, tomato slice and arugula was very very good. Suggestion: The balsamic drizzle should drizzle on both stacks.. Entré: The small filet was exceptional. Like butter... subbed the cabbage mashed potato. The filet is the reason for 4 stars. Entré: Pork chops. Great flavor, a bit overcooked. The cabbage mashed were very good. Suggestion: If the chops are always cooked the exact same 'time', cut back on the time, let them be more juicy and less dry. again, great flavor. We will wait a month or so before coming back, and we will be back, hopefully to a table waiting due to our reservation (or being told you don't take reservations) (expectations), warm bread or no bread, room temperature butter, the eggplant tower for sure and this time 2 filets. read more

This little gem had been on my foodie bucket list since prior to the pandemic. I brought my Missus here for our Anniversary because I knew Reyes would not disappoint. We found convenient street parking just around the block on Grant Place. Believing we would be the only customers on a Monday evening, we observed four tables occupied by regulars who were familiar to the staff. The current owners transformed what was previously a so-so Chinese restaurant into a tastefully decorated dining room whose vivid reds all but scream Italian steak house. The breadth of the menu, impressive for such a cozy room, offers some enthralling choices but steaks and chops are the stars of the show. I began with a palate-pleasing glass of Côtes du Rhône rouge and the Missus had a Bloody Mary which she described as bloody good. She passed on the apps to save room for dessert, but I indulged in a House Salad. This simple green salad was dressed with a delicate citrus vinaigrette that did not overwhelm the field greens. My entrée was the 8 oz. Filet Mignon, served a perfect medium-rare in a pool of demi-glace. It included a generous side of Mushroom Risotto prepared with imported Acquerello rice and topped with shaved Parmesan. My Missus opted for one of Reyes' flagship steaks, namely the 22 oz. Bone-In Ribeye. This was also anointed with demi-glace and accompanied by roasted potatoes and spinach (substituted for broccolini per her request). The spinach, sautéed in garlic and olive oil, tasted salty; otherwise both platters were absolutely stellar. Do not pass up desserts here; all are prepared in-house. I ordered the "Chef's choice Chocolate of the Day," which I'm guessing was a 1/2-mile version of their Mile High Chocolate Cake. This was torte-like and very rich. My Missus had the Apple Pie Ala Mode. We've always considered The Elegant Farmer's apple pie (baked in a brown paper bag) to be the Gold Standard of pies, but she described Reyes' pie as "The best apple pie I ever had in my life." We enjoyed friendly and impeccable service throughout our meal. What appeared to be an overcharge for one item turned out to be an oversight--our server had neglected to hand us a separate "Market Price" list with the menus. But the restaurant graciously adjusted the price. Reyes is a wonderful alternative to those raucous high-end steak house chains found in trendier neighborhoods. We ate there last weekend for the first time, and we agreed that it was good, but we didn't have the five-star experience so many others have had. We'd made a reservation online, and all went well with that. When we showed up at 5pm (the same time the restaurant opened), we were shown to a very small table for two, flush against the outside wall. I asked if there was something else available (we're not small table nor flush-against-the-wall sized), and was told no, but if we wanted a different table the next time, we could mention that as a special request when making our reservation. Oh, okay. Yet there were still tables that were unused by the time we left 90 minutes or so later, so I'm not sure why that request couldn't be accommodated. We did push the table out from the wall a bit, and that helped, but we were still very cramped once we had drinks, dinner, and bread plates on the table. When they brought my to-go container, there was literally no place to put it to fill it, so I held it awkwardly over the table while I did, and then set it on the nearby windowsill once I was done. Regarding the food and drinks -- My house cocktail was okay. I don't remember the name now, but it had Rye and lemon and ginger beer. I thought it was odd, though, that it was garnished with a lime even though it was a lemon-based drink. Because the house cocktail was uninspiring, for my second drink I ordered my usual Makers Mark Manhattan, up, with two cherries. Sadly, the bartender didn't seem to know how to make a classic Manhattan, because it was mostly whiskey, shaken or stirred with a lot of ice (in other words, more watery than it should be), then strained into the glass, which was good, but there was little or no sweet vermouth in it. So I had to ask for some, and then when it arrived in a shot glass, I poured that into my drink, which finally made it taste relatively like a classic Manhattan. To their credit, there were three cherries instead of my requested two, so that was a plus. My husband ordered Moletto Dolce Amore spumante (he likes sweet wines), which came in a cute little aluminum bottle, and yielded about two and a half glasses per bottle, so with two of those bottles to balance my two cocktails, he was pleased. The lobster bisque was outstanding. It was definitely a five-star item. Recommend, recommend, recommend. It was nicely laced with sherry, and had a more than adequate portion of lobster meat chunks in it. I had the 12 oz filet with demi glace, that comes paired with mushroom risotto. To me, this should have been the perfect meal. I was really excited when I saw these two things paired on the menu. I usually love both of these. The risotto was excellent. Again, five stars for this. The steak, on the other hand, was very tender, but disappointing in its lack of flavor, even with the demi glace. As with the cocktail, I had to ask for sometime to make it right, in this case by bringing some salt. And as with the cocktail issue, our server was nowhere to be seen when I realized this, so I had to wait awhile to get the salt as my steak cooled off. I finally caught the attention of the hostess, and asked her if I could get some salt. I watched her start to walk back to get it, meet my server on the way, and pass the request to the server. Okay, cool. And then our server showed up with the salt, such as it was ... one of those little paper capsules like I'd get at a fast food place, which she kind of tossed on the table. Okay, I get it, COVID and all, so salt isn't always on the table these days, but usually when I've requested salt in a sit-down restaurant, I get it in a shaker. I thought this was kind of tacky. Once the steak was salted a bit (which I don't usually do, because usually a filet will have a nice flavor to it), it was much better. I didn't otherwise complain or send it back, because there was really nothing they could have done. It was cooked correctly, it just had no flavor. I'd ordered the larger size filet intending to take half of it and half of the risotto home, which I did, and they were great a couple days later also (with some salt added on the filet, naturally). My husband had the New York Strip, which came over a rice mixture. He said both his steak and rice were very good, so he had a better experience with his than I did. He gave them four-plus stars. Mine was solidly four, thanks to the risotto bumping up the overall point value a bit. We skipped dessert and had our second rounds of drinks, which was a good choice, because we were both quite full after the bisque and dinners. Will we come back? Probably, although I was disappointed that I had to track down our server each time I needed something additional, and the steak just wasn't what I was hoping for. Next time I'll probably try one of their add-on toppings, in the hope this adds a little more flavor to it. The rest of the food was perfect. read more

This isn't a review of the food or service at Reyes'. We've never eaten at Reyes' and now, never will. I made a reservation mid-October for Thanksgiving dinner at Reyes'. We live in Park Ridge, and weren't going anywhere this year, so we thought it'd be fun to try a local place for Thanksgiving dinner (as opposed to someplace like Gibson's, as we've done before). I got a call a week before our reservation though - a week before Thanksgiving - telling me that our reservations were being canceled. They weren't going to be open on Thanksgiving. While I respect their decision to not open for Thanksgiving, I have no respect for them telling us a week before! Where could we get reservations at a nice restaurant by that point? We couldn't. Thanks for ruining our Thanksgiving, Reyes'. Nothing more than a timid "sorry" from the girl that called... no offer of reservations the night before or after, no other suggestions, just sorry.
