The $2 breakfast burrito is a nice draw, for sure, but I was looking forward to some flavor. I ordered mine with extra salsa verde and chomped down only to find that there was zero salsa verde. The breakdown was probably 70% egg, 20% cheese, 10% zucchini. Great for scrambled egg lovers; not for me. And the flour tortilla was soft and bland, likely straight out of a bag from the grocery store. Sorry Carpinteria, I'm not trying to blow in from out of town and diss your local breakfast spot. I can't honestly say that if I lived here I wouldn't drop in often too. It's certainly charming and full of friendly people and overflowing with newspapers to read and sweet pastries to whiff. But I would probably bring bottles of salsa verde with me and share them around. read more

Highly disappointed! After reading the reviews my wife and I decided to stop in on Sat on a trip to Santa Barbara. I'll review things we ordered; 1.Pork tamale, masa hard and dry, filling was ok. 2.What they said was a guava and cream cheese twist. I could not taste the guava nor cream cheese. There was a smear of some red and white stuff in it, but I could not identify it was guava and cream cheese. I took a couple of bites and throw it out. 3.Dolphin shaped cookie. It was suppose to be a shortbread cookie, but it was overcooked, dry and tasteless. We threw that away. 4. The green posole was good, but its served with shredded lettuce!? What happened to the shredded cabbage, onions and cilantro? We ordered a side of corn tortillas, as it come with only some tortilla chips. The corn tortillas were hot, hand made and tasty. 5. Bolillo, hard as a rock, dry and tasteless. Threw that out as well. Maybe the golden egg item here is the posole. We'll never know, as we won't return. read more

I came here looking to try their tres leches cake for my wedding but when we got here their menu pulled us in. I tried their tamales however they are dry. Like really dry. The staff is young and seemed nice but like we stood there for 10-15 minutes waiting for our food. Reynaldo's is a Carpinteria classic! Their burritos are big, authentic, and delicious. I recommend the tri-tip burrito - loads of meat and perfectly prepared!! This is a very informal Mexican cafe' where you order at the counter and they call your number when your order is ready. About a half dozen tables inside and 4 or 5 out on the sidewalk. Nothing fancy but their food is great. They also have a bakery counter where there is a good selection of traditional Mexican baked goodies including cookies, breads, and cakes. We always make a point to stop in for the burritos every time we visit Carp. Unfortunately, we rarely have room for dessert!! Located right on Linden, the Main Street in Carpinteria. Finding a parking space can be a bit challenging - especially in the summer - but there is a public lot around the corner just a few blocks away. The staff is friendly, the salsa is very good, and it is a great place for authentic Mexican food for lunch on your day at the beach. Check the hours since they often close early! read more

If you are a true Mexican don't go for the food! I ordered a tri-tip burrito and the meat was old tasting and not even cut in pieces in the burrito! The beans were ok. My husband ordered taquitos. Delicious pastries! Husband and I stopped to pick up a selection to fortify us for our long drive home to the bay area. Everything was yummy! The peach tart was a stand-out, excellent turnovers, and very good gingerbread piggies (puercos) that are my favorite to enjoy with coffee. We also picked up a tamal and a chile relleno burrito for later. Heated them up when got home for a tasty dinner. I only wish we had discovered this place before the last day of our trip! The tamales and burritos were very good! The only thing we didn't like was the red velvet cupcakes. I am a red velvet fanatic and I found the cupcake to be somewhat dry and instead of cream cheese frosting, the frosting was buttercream which "cheapened" it to me. Dem tamales are really tasty. I was driving to LA from Santa Barbara and just pulled over to find something to eat. Man, I was super happy I found this place. Home style bakery, very quaint, lots of love put into the baked goods. The drinks not so much. So funny. I usually always comment on how horchata is just too sweet, but having horchata that wasn't sweet mad me realize how much I really do need sweet horchata in my life. Maybe the machine was on too long and had too much water, who knows. I wouldn't let that get on the way of eating some solid Mexican baked goods. I've stopped by here a couple times on a bike ride from Ventura. I had their chorizo and potato breakfast burrito which was greasy but delicious. I also had a muffin and it was decent. Only thing that was a little off are the beverages, the hot chocolate that comes out of one of those hot chocolate machines is nearly undrinkable, their coffee OK. BUT they are a bakery and not a coffee shop. They seem to be a local favorite. read more

Four stars for the $0.95 palm leaf. It was delicious! It was the perfect combination of crunchy, flaky and sweet. No sign of sogginess in this cookie! Service was attentive. We stood there forever before we decided on the palm leaf and the gals behind the counter asked several times if we needed help or were ready. Most of the bakery case looked delicious, but there are only so many empty calories you can eat a day. read more

And that burrito was not only delicious (chorizo, potatoes, eggs) it was served piping hot which is strangely rare these days. Service was friendly, helpful and so fast! Stopped in for lunch to go. Overall, decent place with some yummy treats and a decent, reasonably priced burrito. The Good: The burrito was basic with pork, salsa, beans and rice. While not over the top, it was great tasting, not too large, and reasonable priced. I also picked up an oreja, which was very yummy. The Bad: It was a hot day and it was even hotter inside. They need air conditioning, but they do offer outdoor seating, so this isn't the end of the world. The atmosphere is very utilitarian and not very inviting. Overall, I am a fan and can't wait to try other items from their menu. The apple fritters look awesome and the enchiladas another patron picked up looked really good. Update: Grabbed a Rey's Burrito to go and this place is definitely on my regular list. The burrito was yummy and the air conditioning was on (this place was cooler than the Starbucks up the street).
