I was at the counter ordering a breakfast torta and a sweetbread the guy at the counter had the dirtiest nails! Then he proceeds to grab an old glove from his dirty apron and grabs my bread . Do check when it was made as we got a couple large containers a few weeks ago and it was bad (bubbly fermented) the next day. We've stopped by Reynaldo's before while we were in downtown Carpinteria and just browsed it, since we didn't have time to shop. This time around, it was hard to resist. It was crowded, but the pastries selection was great: from your regular European ones- danishes, etc, to American classics - pies, cookies to Mexican faves like we had in Mexico - Pan Dulce, seasonal ones - shaped like avocado-s (since the festival was going on), some specialties for Halloween and Dias de Los Muertos masterpieces, everything you need, want and don't know it's possible. Beautiful presentation, great deals, nice customers service.We couldn't resist and got a bunch of cookies, some we didn't know what they were or how they'd be. For the price, it was worth risking. Reynaldo's not only had the greatest tasting cake we have ever had, but they were more than willing to work with us to help cover all of our needs. The quality of their cakes are second to none. In addition to this they are able to customize their cakes to fit all of your needs. Their day of service was phenomenal too. They delivered our cake to the venue on time. Our guests were thoroughly impressed by the cake. To say the cake was a hit would be a huge understatement. Everyone raved about how delicious our wedding cake was. Haven't eaten a thing here that I haven't liked. Great tamales, great churros, great pastries, I really haven't found something from Reynaldo's yet that I haven't loved. Authentic tasting Mexican food and pastries, the one European pastry I've tried from them was really good too. The business is hopping in the mornings. Was driving about 1.5 hours and still had about another 1.5 hours to get to my destination. Usually do an early AM pit stop in this area since it's halfway point and there's a Starbucks I usually go to. This time, I decided to hit up local spot, Hispanic owned was a plus..or so I thought. Walked in with my dog(service dog allowed). There's a line to order, then a small dining area further away from order line. It wasn't till I was next in line to order/pay(then I was going to wait outside), when I was told they didn't allow dogs. I explained that I was ordering to go, just wanted to pay and wait outside, refused to let me order/pay and still forced me out. Said to call in order over the phone and they'd take my order out. It was literally my turn to order/pay. Being that I went out of my way to stop here, I did not want to waste anymore time and simplified my order for quicker service. Called their #, ordered my 2 pastries, and just sat outside and watched ALL the other customers who came in waaaay after me get their hot food and go on their way. Being a Panaderia, at 7:15am, I expected fresh warm fluffy pastries. What I got were hard day old pastries. Lesson learned. Gracias por nada! read more

I love this establishment. For 14+ years i have lived and flourished in this wonderful oasis we call Carpinteria. When visiting Carpinteria, I stopped here 3 times! They have a huge array of pastries, savory items, and drinks. They have everything from pies, turnovers, croissants, and donuts. The lemon filling seemed homemade, nice and tart....not that awful shiny bright lemon donut filling that many places use. I am addicted to there jericalla custard. It's less sweet than flan and a bit more firm than creme brûlée. There flan is also good but the jericalla is my favorite. It's also difficult to find so when I saw that they made that I can't stay away. The store is clean and the cashiers are helpful and friendly. On our way up to Solvang we stopped here for lunch. My boyfriend raves about the tamales, but I didn't think they were that amazing. We parked in downtown near Reynaldo's and headed in. It's kinda dingy in a small family owned sort of way. But they have a huge display of pastries of all varieties which all looked great, but I knew I was going to eat a crap ton of sweets in Solvang so I didn't get anything. They have a small menu of 'mexican foods' and a decently sized case filled with prepared burritos and tamales, which they heat up in a toaster oven. I got the chicken and pork tamales, and I just found them to be too 'bready' if you can even say that about a tamale. I couldn't say they were amazing, they were just okay. Maybe I just don't know what a good tamale is. My boyfriend loves them. Anyways it was $10 for 4 tamales and a large bottle of water. The girls working the counter were very nice, and I might stop here again just to try a pastry and a burrito. read more

My family and my self have been ordering cakes from this bakery for a long time. I ordered a cake for a birthday party and this has been the worst experience ever, let me get started by saying that the owner Diane was rude and unprofessional. I was very displeased with my cake and she refused to speak to me on the phone and put her employee on the phone to take the heat for her and also telling me she did not know that I had called her when she is the one that told her employee that she would call me back. Some one give this business owner the award of year for good customer service. I had ordered a banana and vanilla custard filled cake. When the owner called me to discuss the decorations on the cake I try to explain to her how I wanted the cake made and she rudely told me "I don't need to know that" I should of right then canceled my order with her rude attitude. But since we have always ordered from them I let it slide, well to my surprise this woman was completely oblivious to what I wanted. Instead of doing a vanilla cake with "banana and vanilla custard " she did banana bread, yes BANANA BREAD!!!!!, It was for a birthday party not for a gathering to serve coffee with it. I was so mad that how can some one do such a mistake. When I called to explain my frustration I asked to speak to the owner and I was rudely told that she wasn't available and from this point only way she has communicated with me has been through email where she was also rude. Her employe offer me a discount on my next order but why would I even want a discount, do they really think I am going to place another order after the way I was treated and the owner hiding. This would of all been resolved if the owner was a better business person. You have to own up to your mistakes and try to fix it. But like i keep saying hiding and being rude is not going to bring you my business again. So if I was you reading this review find another place unless you want to serve banana bread and coffee at your next party Updated: After posting my review I was sent a rude message by one of her employees by the name Catalina calling her self a former employee but knows every single detail, being extremely rude towards me. Lovely shop located in the middle everything; just minutes from Island Brewery. There is a big selection; from cookies to sandwiches; you can load up the picnic basket for sure. Everything in the display case looked fresh. It was very impressive, they offered traditional Mexican sweet breads and European pastries. I found everything tasty and well made, very authentic. Also, pricing for everything was reasonable, probably a steal considering the quality of the baked goodies. Side note: I picked up a few tamales to go. The fillings were spot on, with the meats seasoned very well. After reheating in a microwave I found the corn masa to be a little bit dry but still delicious. Compared to bakeries in the Ventura area, their tamales are average in size; somewhere between a medium to large but not small. A couple years ago I stopped here with my family and was charmed by the glass cases filled with colorful "day of the dead" cookies, sweet pastries and various savory dishes. I ordered a chile relleno for lunch. It was good. When I came back to Carpenteria this summer my dad wanted to buy tamales for dinner one night, and I remembered the cases of savory Mexican dishes. We stopped by and ordered chicken and pork tamales in green sauce, vegetable tamales and tamales filled with green peppers and cheese, called "Rajas". We also picked up some roasted salsa and guacamole. It was all DELICIOUS. The Rajas tamales were my favorite, and the guacamole was better than homemade.
