We had reservations here to celebrate my mom's birthday, it was wonderful! As soon as we walked in, there were placards on the wall of awards that Rey's Restaurant has earned and won. The decor was beautiful, the music was soft and nice and there were many seating options to fit plenty of people with different preferences. We started off with some red wine, Romaine Hearts Salad and the grilled brie served with fresh fruit and toast points, it was very good. For the entrees, we got the chicken piccata with a side of sauteed mushrooms. (I personally didn't love this one) and we also got 2 fillet mignons with a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were absolutely delicious! The dessert menu looked so good but the food portions were pretty big so we were full. Jonathan S was our server and he was magnificent. He was very attentive and very accommodating. Rey's Restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate my mom's birthday. Will definitely come back

My husband and I came across Rey's while on a work trip to North Carolina. Overall, it's a lovely restaurant for a delicious romantic date night. The offer plenty of seating - most being in their large dining area, while some is located in their bar area (Voodoo Lounge - still offers table seating). The exterior holds a large array of parking spaces for guests and the general location is nice and a stand alone. The restaurant was not extremely busy when we first arrived (we tend to eat dinner around 4/4:30pm). However, it did get quite busy as the night went on. The staff was great. Upon our arrival, the hostess asked if we were celebrating anything. We stated it was a few days past our anniversary, and the hostess immediately grabbed us a celebration card which was very sweet. The food was wonderful. Our waitress was great and offered multiple recommendations on items. All were extremely tasty. The food can get pricey as you add multiple items (apps, entrees, sides, and dessert), but in my opinion you get your monies worth with all items purchased here. If in the area again, I will definitely be back.

Revisited on April 12th with a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed their food! I ordered Crab Cake fritters and roasted veggies this time around. Yummy! Shrimp Cocktail came with 6 massive shrimp and was the perfect appetizer! Highly recommend! Service was prompt again. We actually had the same young lady from Wednesday night. Ambiance is nice and dim

We've been coming to Rey''s for the last 15 years for special occasions for to make an occasion special. This is one of those restaurants that if you know you know it is a staple- consistently great. We enjoyed the tuna appetizer, New York strip, potatoes Au Gratin and bread pudding. The wine list offers lots of options, and we've always experienced servers who are knowledgeable and ready to provide recommendations. This dinner was one of the rare occasions when Rey himself did not stop by the table to say hello, as he is well known for his rapport with customers. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I made reservations at Rey's for my birthday, which fell on a Tuesday this year. I wasn't expecting much of a crowd, but the place was surprisingly busy. As soon as we walked in, the hostess greeted us warmly and seated us right away. She placed our menus in front of us and even gave me a birthday card, which was a nice touch. Our server came over, asked if it was our first time, and inquired about who was celebrating a birthday. After wishing me a happy birthday, he went over the day's specials and explained that the menu was à la carte. I ordered a lemon drop martini for my drink, and for my entrée, I chose the grouper. For the table, we ordered the lobster mac and cheese, greens, and mashed sweet potatoes. They also brought some bread, which was absolutely delicious. The food was excellent--flavorful without being too heavy, so I didn't feel overly stuffed. Since it was my birthday, they offered me a complimentary dessert, and I chose the crème brûlée, which was also very good. I loved the ambiance of the place, and at one point, either a manager or one of the owners came by to check on us, which showed great attention to detail. All the employees seemed to work well together, creating a cohesive experience. The vibe was perfect for a family outing, date night, or a girls' night. I would definitely return!

Place looks very neat and the food was absolutely amazing. Service was very personal. Other than that we also ordered a banana foster which was made in front of us which was a very cool experience. Oh and we also got a dessert on the house! Something that I found kinda annoying is that they ask you if you want refill for mocktails but don't tell you it's not free.

I took my wife and daughter for Mother's Day, we were looking for an event restaurant at the same time as avoiding UNC, Duke and NC State graduation. A friend recommended Rey's and we were quite happy. Coincidentally we were in New Orleans a few weeks ago, we didn't book Rey's because of its New Orleans style, but we definitely felt it when we were there. I was impressed with the breadth of the menu, very challenging deciding what to order with many great options both as starters, salads and main courses. I ended up starting with the carpaccio, which had a lot of flavor outside the beef, as you sometimes just get nice meat but this was a more complete dish. I particularly liked the accompanying greens, they had quite a nice dressing. I ordered a ribeye medium rare as my main, it was also cooked perfectly and a nice steak. I added soft onions and although they were not world changing. I also found the sides simply okay. The better was the creamed spinach, which was nice but not the creamiest I have had. I did not particularly enjoy the asparagus, thin asparagus, nothing special. For dessert, we shared bananas foster, largely for the presentation and it lived up to it. Our waiter did a great job, the bananas tasted good, and they were nice enough to split it into three servings, each with sufficient ice cream. Service was very professional. Overall ambience was among the most formal I have experienced in the Triangle (very similar to Ruth Chris, not coincidentally also with NO roots), you didn't need a jacket but you would not be out of place without it. Overall, an excellent event restaurant.

We came here for my boyfriend's birthday and it was so good! I ordered the chicken and it was so flavorful and cooked to perfection! The drinks were delicious and the service was impeccable! I can't wait to go back and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Ribeye steak, mashed sweet potatoes, and creamed spinach.

This was my first time going to this restaurant. I've never heard of this place until last week. My husband took me for my birthday and the food was great. The ambiance was very nice. We both ordered Ribeye steaks. It was cooked perfectly but my steak had a lot of fat on it. Still, the steak was well seasoned and I enjoyed every last bite. We ordered the creamed spinach and mashed sweet potatoes, which are big enough for two. I loved the sweet potatoes but the creamed spinach could've been better taste wise. Our waiter was nice, but my husband's drink wasn't refilled for a long time. Also, they have complementary valet parking. I would definitely go back to this place.

Celebrated the 64th birthday of my coworker and she was excited to visit Rey's after hearing such rave reviews. Upon arriving at the restaurant we were told they don't open til 5pm but people were entering and being seated around 4:45pm. We had a private dining area since there were 14 of us. The room was nice but it was extremely hot in there. Staff turned on the air and it would fluctuate between hot and cold. Our server was very nice and energetic I forgot her name but she was very good. For me personally they don't offer enough appetizers that are not seafood based. I am allergic to shellfish so it was disappointing to see only two options were not seafood inspired. I ordered a Caesar salad, it was very basic to say the least. I wish they offered chicken or salmon to go on top of it. For my main course I ordered the French quarter chicken and a side of macaroni and cheese. The chicken was just ok. I was expecting the cheese to be oozing out of it but it wasn't. The Mac and cheese was good. It had a little kick because it's made with pimento cheese. We didn't order dessert because we brought our own but overall it was a great first time.

Stepped out with friends to try Rey's for the first time and I was not only impressed with the food but the service and ambiance was great!!! Definitely worth every penny!!!

The service was top notch as well. All of the wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and took care of our large group well. I started with the Old Fashioned Flight, with their Aged Old Fashioned, one with Old Forester 1920, and one with Buffalo Trace that they said was their restaurants pick. The first 2 were really good, but I think they gave me the wrong drink, because the one with BT didn't taste like it had any bourbon in it at all. But the waiter switched it out for me with a Tequila OF, which was really good. They brought out two salads for the table, and their Cesar Salad was really good, the dressing was so good. I ordered the Australian Lamb Chops, which were amazing. Simply seasoned, but done so well. I ordered a side of Chimichurri sauce, and it was not needed at all. My wife had the meatloaf, which was delicious, and the group all enjoyed their meals and drinks. We left full and happy. I definitely recommend you add this place to you list if you've never been.

The restaurant is beautiful, cozy, and comfortable, and the hosts and servers have been excellent every time. We made reservations once through OpenTable and once by phone -- both were easy, and reservations are probably a good idea since they stay busy. The food has been great both times. On our first visit, my husband and I shared the ribeye and loved the flavor. Their Caesar salad is also surprisingly unique and delicious with broccolini instead of a traditional Caesar style. I also really appreciated being able to order a single Rockefeller oyster since most places require a half dozen minimum. The second time we visited for an early Mother's Day dinner with my son and shared the off-menu tomahawk, which was excellent as well. The only consistent issue we've had has been steak temperature. We usually order medium, but their interpretation of medium has come out significantly more rare than expected. The first time, we had to send the steak back, and they asked us to identify only the undercooked portions to recook separately, which was a bit awkward and something we hadn't experienced before at a steakhouse. The second time, we tried being more specific and even requested an approximate temperature around 140°, but the steak came out closer to medium-well. That said, the flavors, atmosphere, and service have been so enjoyable that we'll absolutely keep coming back. We're just hoping we can eventually land on the perfect medium steak on a future visit.

Venue: it is good sized venue, ambient and has upscale elegant - classic theater type of look. Went to the small room area in the back to the left past the kitchen. Food: I have tried crab shrimp bisque, cheese steak roll, calamari, NY steak and cheese cake. The shrimp bisque was good but I've had better- for example near by Capital grill and definitely not closed to any of the bisque at fisherman's wharf. But you know what, when I got chunk of crab and shrimp I started to change my mind that it was getting pretty good. Cheese steak roll was pretty good but real rich. Calamari had good flavor but extremely sweet. The whole table agreed that there was unnecessary amount of sugar in there. Steak was nice and thick- however it would've been better if it had more salt and seasoning. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare. Texture was soft but I was slightly suspicious of meat tenderizer in there. Just a thought. Cheese cake was good but again, I've had better. Service: service was good. Although since it was table size to acclimate a party - everyone was attentive. Price: in my opinion it is overpriced. I.usually put price insight in the beginning but I am giving my insight on this last because- overall the experience and food was good. However, for the price to the whole experience ratio is not worth it for me to come back.

Surprisingly, despite the restaurant being empty, we had to wait about 30-40 minutes. The staff kept telling us our table was "getting ready," which was confusing given how quiet it was. Service throughout the meal was quite slow. We started with the shrimp appetizer, which was good. We initially ordered oysters, but were informed 10-15 minutes later that they were unavailable, so we switched to calamari, which was just okay. For entrées, we ordered steak, crab cake and crab stuffed shrimp . Steak was served on a large plate with a very small portion and no sides included. At that price point, you would expect a more substantial serving or at least accompaniments. Dessert was the highlight -- we tried the crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and carrot cake, and all were enjoyable. One odd detail: the check was split into two without the server asking how we wanted it handled. Overall, for a higher-end steakhouse, we expected better service, smoother communication, and more attention to detail. The ambience is nice, but the experience didn't quite match the price or expectations.

I enjoyed the mix of fresh vegetables and warm cooked vegetables served with the dish. -- The Lemon Yuzu Tart was a nice bright and rich dessert. The tartness comes from the jam on top of the tart but it doesn't overwhelm the dish. The creme brulee style top was a nice touch. The buttermilk ice cream was more on the icier side than creamy. I really enjoyed all the dishes I tried here and am looking forward to my next visit.

I enjoyed the duck breast, with a crunch tasty dried beet topping. The duck was moist and tender and the strips were nicely roasted. For dessert, I savored the Dark Chocolate Ganache Cake. This is a rich cake with a full chocolate flavor. When I'm next in Raleigh, I plan to dine at Crawford and Son for a superb meal.

Seriously, if you can't find a pour you like here, you may just need water instead. Started with the biscuits topped with crackling and house-made preserves, and honestly, that combo alone made me question why I don't eat more biscuits in life. Sweet, salty, buttery chaos in the best way. For the main, I went with the pork chop and greens. The chop leaned a little overcooked for me personally, but the sauce helped bring things back together and added good flavor. The greens had a nice little kick of heat, but I kept waiting for that deep smoky ham hock flavor to show up like an old Southern grandma entering the kitchen... and it never quite arrived. Overall though? Still a solid meal, strong whiskey program, cool atmosphere, and definitely worth checking out if you're in Raleigh looking for a bourbon-forward dinner spot. Travelin_Broke approved with a slight side-eye from the greens.

I originally thought it was the sauce which the waitress voluntarily remade but no the current chef is apparently fallen into the current dining trope of spicy is better to the point. I gave my burger to someone else at the table to eat. That said everyone else enjoyed their meals and as always, no complaints on the drinks but... I won't be the one selecting/suggesting it when we're going out to each going forward.
