We had reservations here to celebrate my mom's birthday, it was wonderful! As soon as we walked in, there were placards on the wall of awards that Rey's Restaurant has earned and won. The decor was beautiful, the music was soft and nice and there were many seating options to fit plenty of people with different preferences. We started off with some red wine, Romaine Hearts Salad and the grilled brie served with fresh fruit and toast points, it was very good. For the entrees, we got the chicken piccata with a side of sauteed mushrooms. (I personally didn't love this one) and we also got 2 fillet mignons with a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were absolutely delicious! The dessert menu looked so good but the food portions were pretty big so we were full. Jonathan S was our server and he was magnificent. He was very attentive and very accommodating. Rey's Restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate my mom's birthday. Will definitely come back

My husband and I came across Rey's while on a work trip to North Carolina. Overall, it's a lovely restaurant for a delicious romantic date night. The offer plenty of seating - most being in their large dining area, while some is located in their bar area (Voodoo Lounge - still offers table seating). The exterior holds a large array of parking spaces for guests and the general location is nice and a stand alone. The restaurant was not extremely busy when we first arrived (we tend to eat dinner around 4/4:30pm). However, it did get quite busy as the night went on. The staff was great. Upon our arrival, the hostess asked if we were celebrating anything. We stated it was a few days past our anniversary, and the hostess immediately grabbed us a celebration card which was very sweet. The food was wonderful. Our waitress was great and offered multiple recommendations on items. All were extremely tasty. The food can get pricey as you add multiple items (apps, entrees, sides, and dessert), but in my opinion you get your monies worth with all items purchased here. If in the area again, I will definitely be back.

We wanted to go to an upscale restaurant with good steaks for a Valentine's day dinner, so Rey's seemed like the perfect spot to try. We walked in and immediately got upscale vibes. We were seated immediately in a little room off the side, which was quiet and romantic. Our server was very personable and offered wonderful recommendations without having to ask. She also let us know that Rey's just won best steakhouse last week! We each started with the caesar salad, which our waitress let us know that the croutons (& dressing) were homemade - the croutons were definitely a standout, impeccably seasoned and buttery. Otherwise it was a classic caesar salad feel, dressing was nothing to write home about. For entrees, I went for the surf & turf, which came with a filet mignon and lobster tail. The filet mignon was cooked to medium rare perfection and had a buttery-like consistency where it felt like it could melt in your mouth. The lobster tail was cooked, chopped up, and placed back in the tail, which I loved. It came with a side of garlic butter, which was lovely but also not necessarily needed since it was already cooked with a good amount of garlic butter - delicious. My husband got the 16oz NY strip. All meat we got cooked "Pittsburg style" which provided a lovely crisp on the outside of our steaks. For sides, we opted for garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The potatoes were creamy and nicely salted. The grilled asparagus was tender and not hard/stringy which often happens at the ends - however, it came to the table a tad cold. We ended our meal with some coffee - we didn't love the taste of it. Overall, this was a lovely meal. I can understand why their steak is highly regarded around here!

Revisited on April 12th with a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed their food! I ordered Crab Cake fritters and roasted veggies this time around. Yummy! Shrimp Cocktail came with 6 massive shrimp and was the perfect appetizer! Highly recommend! Service was prompt again. We actually had the same young lady from Wednesday night. Ambiance is nice and dim

We've been coming to Rey''s for the last 15 years for special occasions for to make an occasion special. This is one of those restaurants that if you know you know it is a staple- consistently great. We enjoyed the tuna appetizer, New York strip, potatoes Au Gratin and bread pudding. The wine list offers lots of options, and we've always experienced servers who are knowledgeable and ready to provide recommendations. This dinner was one of the rare occasions when Rey himself did not stop by the table to say hello, as he is well known for his rapport with customers. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I made reservations at Rey's for my birthday, which fell on a Tuesday this year. I wasn't expecting much of a crowd, but the place was surprisingly busy. As soon as we walked in, the hostess greeted us warmly and seated us right away. She placed our menus in front of us and even gave me a birthday card, which was a nice touch. Our server came over, asked if it was our first time, and inquired about who was celebrating a birthday. After wishing me a happy birthday, he went over the day's specials and explained that the menu was à la carte. I ordered a lemon drop martini for my drink, and for my entrée, I chose the grouper. For the table, we ordered the lobster mac and cheese, greens, and mashed sweet potatoes. They also brought some bread, which was absolutely delicious. The food was excellent--flavorful without being too heavy, so I didn't feel overly stuffed. Since it was my birthday, they offered me a complimentary dessert, and I chose the crème brûlée, which was also very good. I loved the ambiance of the place, and at one point, either a manager or one of the owners came by to check on us, which showed great attention to detail. All the employees seemed to work well together, creating a cohesive experience. The vibe was perfect for a family outing, date night, or a girls' night. I would definitely return!

Place looks very neat and the food was absolutely amazing. Service was very personal. Other than that we also ordered a banana foster which was made in front of us which was a very cool experience. Oh and we also got a dessert on the house! Something that I found kinda annoying is that they ask you if you want refill for mocktails but don't tell you it's not free.

I took my wife and daughter for Mother's Day, we were looking for an event restaurant at the same time as avoiding UNC, Duke and NC State graduation. A friend recommended Rey's and we were quite happy. Coincidentally we were in New Orleans a few weeks ago, we didn't book Rey's because of its New Orleans style, but we definitely felt it when we were there. I was impressed with the breadth of the menu, very challenging deciding what to order with many great options both as starters, salads and main courses. I ended up starting with the carpaccio, which had a lot of flavor outside the beef, as you sometimes just get nice meat but this was a more complete dish. I particularly liked the accompanying greens, they had quite a nice dressing. I ordered a ribeye medium rare as my main, it was also cooked perfectly and a nice steak. I added soft onions and although they were not world changing. I also found the sides simply okay. The better was the creamed spinach, which was nice but not the creamiest I have had. I did not particularly enjoy the asparagus, thin asparagus, nothing special. For dessert, we shared bananas foster, largely for the presentation and it lived up to it. Our waiter did a great job, the bananas tasted good, and they were nice enough to split it into three servings, each with sufficient ice cream. Service was very professional. Overall ambience was among the most formal I have experienced in the Triangle (very similar to Ruth Chris, not coincidentally also with NO roots), you didn't need a jacket but you would not be out of place without it. Overall, an excellent event restaurant.

We came here for my boyfriend's birthday and it was so good! I ordered the chicken and it was so flavorful and cooked to perfection! The drinks were delicious and the service was impeccable! I can't wait to go back and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Ribeye steak, mashed sweet potatoes, and creamed spinach.

This was my first time going to this restaurant. I've never heard of this place until last week. My husband took me for my birthday and the food was great. The ambiance was very nice. We both ordered Ribeye steaks. It was cooked perfectly but my steak had a lot of fat on it. Still, the steak was well seasoned and I enjoyed every last bite. We ordered the creamed spinach and mashed sweet potatoes, which are big enough for two. I loved the sweet potatoes but the creamed spinach could've been better taste wise. Our waiter was nice, but my husband's drink wasn't refilled for a long time. Also, they have complementary valet parking. I would definitely go back to this place.

The service was top notch as well. All of the wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and took care of our large group well. I started with the Old Fashioned Flight, with their Aged Old Fashioned, one with Old Forester 1920, and one with Buffalo Trace that they said was their restaurants pick. The first 2 were really good, but I think they gave me the wrong drink, because the one with BT didn't taste like it had any bourbon in it at all. But the waiter switched it out for me with a Tequila OF, which was really good. They brought out two salads for the table, and their Cesar Salad was really good, the dressing was so good. I ordered the Australian Lamb Chops, which were amazing. Simply seasoned, but done so well. I ordered a side of Chimichurri sauce, and it was not needed at all. My wife had the meatloaf, which was delicious, and the group all enjoyed their meals and drinks. We left full and happy. I definitely recommend you add this place to you list if you've never been.

The restaurant is beautiful, cozy, and comfortable, and the hosts and servers have been excellent every time. We made reservations once through OpenTable and once by phone -- both were easy, and reservations are probably a good idea since they stay busy. The food has been great both times. On our first visit, my husband and I shared the ribeye and loved the flavor. Their Caesar salad is also surprisingly unique and delicious with broccolini instead of a traditional Caesar style. I also really appreciated being able to order a single Rockefeller oyster since most places require a half dozen minimum. The second time we visited for an early Mother's Day dinner with my son and shared the off-menu tomahawk, which was excellent as well. The only consistent issue we've had has been steak temperature. We usually order medium, but their interpretation of medium has come out significantly more rare than expected. The first time, we had to send the steak back, and they asked us to identify only the undercooked portions to recook separately, which was a bit awkward and something we hadn't experienced before at a steakhouse. The second time, we tried being more specific and even requested an approximate temperature around 140°, but the steak came out closer to medium-well. That said, the flavors, atmosphere, and service have been so enjoyable that we'll absolutely keep coming back. We're just hoping we can eventually land on the perfect medium steak on a future visit.

Venue: it is good sized venue, ambient and has upscale elegant - classic theater type of look. Went to the small room area in the back to the left past the kitchen. Food: I have tried crab shrimp bisque, cheese steak roll, calamari, NY steak and cheese cake. The shrimp bisque was good but I've had better- for example near by Capital grill and definitely not closed to any of the bisque at fisherman's wharf. But you know what, when I got chunk of crab and shrimp I started to change my mind that it was getting pretty good. Cheese steak roll was pretty good but real rich. Calamari had good flavor but extremely sweet. The whole table agreed that there was unnecessary amount of sugar in there. Steak was nice and thick- however it would've been better if it had more salt and seasoning. The steak was cooked perfect medium rare. Texture was soft but I was slightly suspicious of meat tenderizer in there. Just a thought. Cheese cake was good but again, I've had better. Service: service was good. Although since it was table size to acclimate a party - everyone was attentive. Price: in my opinion it is overpriced. I.usually put price insight in the beginning but I am giving my insight on this last because- overall the experience and food was good. Service throughout the meal was quite slow. We started with the shrimp appetizer, which was good. We initially ordered oysters, but were informed 10-15 minutes later that they were unavailable, so we switched to calamari, which was just okay. For entrées, we ordered steak, crab cake and crab stuffed shrimp . Steak was served on a large plate with a very small portion and no sides included. At that price point, you would expect a more substantial serving or at least accompaniments. Dessert was the highlight -- we tried the crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and carrot cake, and all were enjoyable. One odd detail: the check was split into two without the server asking how we wanted it handled. Overall, for a higher-end steakhouse, we expected better service, smoother communication, and more attention to detail. The ambience is nice, but the experience didn't quite match the price or expectations.

You'll want to park on a side street and walk up to the restaurant. When you walk into the restaurant you'll be transported to a dark, warm, intimate, and buzzy neighborhood vibe. I'd definitely recommend booking a reservation to ensure you are able to get a table. Once we were seated I started by ordering the Long Time Listener Cocktail (Bourbon, Blackberry, Mint, Fernet-Branca) which was excellent and probably my favorite drink of the evening. For my other drink I tried the Structured Settlement (coconut washed tequila, peach, popcorn orgeat, and lime). This drink was also good, but not as good as the long time listener. For food, we started with the Manchego-Herb Biscuits which were flaky, soft, and didn't need any butter. After that we tried the Heirloom Tomato Salad (provencal granola, mozzarella ice cream, and peaches) which was perfect. The large tomato with the crunchy granola, olive oil, and mozzarella and peaches were the perfect blend of flavors. I couldn't stop eating this dish. Next, we tried the Half Smoke Sausage (roasted peppers, garlic aioli, balsamic onion jus) which surprised me. The sausage had a bit of a spicy flavor, the roasted peppers were prepared perfectly, and overall the flavors paired perfectly together. We also ordered the Bucatini (sea urchin, gulf prawn, spicy tomato sauce) which was good with the pasta and all of the flavors mixed together. The last appetizer we ordered was the yellowfin tuna crudo (honeydew, Fresno chili, shiso, tom yum ice) which was perfect. The sliced honeydew with the raw yellowfin was so good!! For the entree we split the Grilled Bavette Steak (potato rosti, shishito pepper, and sauce choron). The steak cut like butter and was cooked perfectly. For dessert we ordered the blueberry upside down cake (popcorn streusel, sweet corn ice cream) which had fresh blueberries and I couldn't stop eating this dish. I'll have to add Crawford & Son to my regular Raleigh restaurant rotation as this meal was excellent. Looking forward to my next visit.

However, during my visit for dinner yesterday, I witnessed something that was extremely disturbing and completely changed my impression of the restaurant. I observed what appeared to be the manager, Bailey, reprimanding the hostess and then reaching toward and touching/grabbing at her cleavage area while saying something to her. The hostess appeared to be very young, possibly around 19 or 20, and she looked visibly uncomfortable and frightened. I sincerely hope this young woman is okay and that this situation is taken seriously and thoroughly addressed by Crawford & Son. No employee should ever feel intimidated, uncomfortable, or subjected to inappropriate physical contact in the workplace. The only reason I am leaving a one-star review is because of what I witnessed and what I perceived as deeply inappropriate behavior toward this young hostess. I hope management investigates this matter immediately.

Whiskey Kitchen is a solid spot for great food and cocktails…read more If you are a whiskey drinker then you definitely want to check this place out. They have a huge selection of whiskey! Not a whiskey drinker, they have other cocktails and beer as well. For food, my to-go is the Lamb Burger or the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Both are a hit! Not a lot of places serve Lamb Burger in the area and this is one of my favorites! Whiskey Kitchen doesn't disappoint! Highly recommend!

The first thing I…read morenoticed upon arriving was how dead it was, especially considering we went on a Friday night at 6:30PM. My boyfriend is a huge whiskey drinker and had been wanting to visit here for a while. He had heard that the best Old Fashioned were here (he said that it was not that great), and while they did have bougie cocktails, I settled for a margarita. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere and decor were great! I am a plant person, so I loved seeing all of the plants. I love the open concept and exposed ceiling. But the food......was displeasing and unappetizing. I ordered the lamp burger, and while I ordered it as well done, I did not know that it would be presented overcooked with a charred outside. If you know lamb, this caused the meat to be extremely dry. The burger itself was very bland and lacked much flavor. My boyfriend ordered the Fireman's Chicken and by the looks of it when it came out, someone should have called the fire department while it was cooking! It was so burnt it was black. The only flavor present was charred meat and it was the most dried out chicken we have ever had (unfortunately I tried it). The collard greens were bitter with little flavor and the black-eyed peas still had crunch to where they weren't cooked all the way. To say all this, to have a $100 bill was HIGHLY unappreciated as it was one of the worst meals we have had in a LONG time. I definitely could see why they were not busy. The food was cooked terrible. And I will note that it isn't that I am picky, the couple next to us barely ate their meal and looked just as dissatisfied as we were. We would NOT recommend!
