We arrived in Cary today and wanted to have a quality and filling dinner after a long day of travel. Someone in our group suggested Rey's and it was the right call. When you first arrive it looks more like an old fashioned house from the south, but the sign in front lets you know that you are at the right place. We were able to get a table without a reservation, which we were grateful to get. Our server was one of the funniest and helpful guys I've ever run into. Excellent suggestions and friendly in all the right ways. We all decided to take his recommendation of the prime ribeye with the Oscar add on. I had mines medium rare + and it was really good: juicy and full of flavor. The creamed spinach was also really good. I decided to take it easy on the drinks so I hade one of their mocktails, which I enjoyed. To top it off our server ended our meal with the flambéed banana ice cream dessert that was the best ending to a meal we could ever expect (give this man a raise). My husband and I went there for date night just because it was Thursday. Our server JT was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. He was thorough when going over the food choices, friendly, attentive and courteous. He helped to make our time at Rey's incredibly memorable. The appetizer(broiled scallops were delicious). Our entrees of ribeye were cooked as ordered (well done for me and perfectly medium rare for my husband). The lobster mac and cheese was superb as well as the cream corn. I got some of that to take home. The banana foster presentation was amazing and tasted the same (and I don't even care for bananas. We will definitely be returning we had such a great time. Service was amazing. JT was a great server. All of the staff was pleasant. We started with an appetizer trio calamari, shrimp New Orleans and crab cakes. All tasty bites. For entrees my husband ordered surf and turf, lobster and a filet. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I had the flounder. It was ok. Lacked something. A crunch, a flavor...something. I'd definitely order something different next time. For the sides we had lobster Mac and cheese and sautéed spinach. Spinach was wonderful-not too oily or salty. The Mac n cheese----nahhh. Laughing and talking with us! It was great! Even the food runners were super polite and very nice and friendly! The complimentary bread was also delish! Yummy! I got it medium well but it came out more to be on the medium rare side. So Bob offered to bring me a hot plate. I had no idea what a hot plate was but I was like sure! We have been treating ourselves to Rey's for special occasions over the past four years. Historically, it has been a wonderful experience. This year, it was very disappointing. We went on November 13th (a Wednesday). The service was adequate (although not up to previous standards) but the steaks were not. The portions were small and my husband had to send his steak back because it was not cooked as requested. We have a special standing order of onion rings; in previous years these have been large glorious onion rings lightly coated with panko crumbs. This year, the onion rings were heavily oiled and coated with bread crumbs which fell off as we bit into the rings. The food is mediocre. They claim to be New Orleans-inspired, but after a food tour there this fall, I think Rey needs to book a trip himself. Everything *looks* good, but they're charging $20 for a kid's pizza boat--the same kind we had in grade school. The steaks, ordered medium and medium-well, came out well-done. Also pictured is the questionable crab meat in my flounder, which I couldn't finish. The ambiance is more upscale. We all had a little bit of something different-salads, steaks, seafood and deserts. Decided to celebrate our anniversary @ Rey's since we had never been here. Plenty of easy parking. Had a reservation and was seated immediately. Decor is clean with wood and mirrors, medium lite. Each table has a wax candle lite. Was greeted at our table promptly with water and then our server Jill checked in with us for any additional drink orders. At the same time I requested appetizer of calamari be started. Our drinks and assortment of breads and butter arrived in an appropriate time. I had a couple question regarding menu items and Jill was able to offer answers and opinion. I decided to start with Turtle Soup which I've never had before. My wife ordered a lobster tail and side of asparagus. I ordered Grouper Lafayette and side of sauteed spinach. We thought food potions were very good size. From the hostesses wishing us a happy anniversary to our waitress Christy---the service was spendid!! The drinks were fantastic! (Ecstasy Martini and Pama---ON POINT!!) We had crabcakes as our appetizer. They were excellent! More crab than cake-- just the way we love them. Our entrées came out shortly after. The stuffed flounder with crabmeat was superb! Hubbys ribeye was tender and juicy. Everything had FLAVA! We ended our evening of being gushy lovebirds with French pressed coffee and mango and lemon sorbet topped with fresh berries. I had the pleasure of enjoying a scrumptious dinner at Rey's in Cary for a pre-selected menu group dinner. I enjoyed the house signature Pama Martini, my friend had a Grey Goose Dirty Martini. Both were excellent. Our server Adrian was so attentive, personable, and on the ball the entire evening. Loved him!! The food was top tier, as always. Rey himself stopped by our table to check on our group. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly and so tender. The flavor was melt-in-your-mouth. I had my first opportunity to try Rey's Restaurant for a holiday dinner with coworkers. I was impressed as soon as we arrived. The parking lot was full, but free valet parking was available. A coat check was also conveniently available at the entrance. Our party was accommodated at a large table. Sometimes we needed to remind the server of a drink order, but it was a busy night and the service was friendly. The decor was traditional and classy. The food was all very delicious. Disaster. Dinner with co-workers on a business trip. Recommended by the hotel. 3 of us. I ordered the flounder and asked for tartar sauce, when I ordered. Meals came out, no tartar sauce. I reminded the server and she said she'd get it. After my friends had finished their entrees, she cane back to say they don't have tartar sauce. My meal is now cold and my friends are finished! She offered to bring me something else and I said "no, they've finished!" She offered to take it off the bill and I told her it shouldn't be on the bill since I didn't get to eat it. The manager, as it turns out, is the owner's son. He finally came over and apologized. The bill arrived and the only thing removed was my entree. Didn't even comp my glass of wine! I complained further and they comped our drinks. What an untrained staff! Son of the owner obviously hasn't earned his management role. Told the hotel not to recommend this place any more. Understaffed and mismanaged! Training is in order. Don't bill yourself as high-end when your staff is diner level. read more

Scott was our waiter he was kind attentive and very informative! It has an old school ambiance however it doesn't disappoint! I had the chicken and sausage gumbo! So in all fairness, I would give this place a 3.5 bc it was slightly above average in my opinion. We had a reservation at 7:30 this evening and was pleasantly surprised when they were able to seat myself and friend a little over 30 minutes prior to our scheduled time. The space was nice. Our server Paul, was ok. The bottle of moscato that we ordered was good. I ordered the shrimp bisque and that was really good! Both my friend and I ordered 10oz filet and honestly, it was just ok. I ordered it medium and it came out a little over done for me. It was disappointing that it was t served with any au ju. For sides, the au gratin potatoes and green beans with almonds, neither of which did much for me. I felt like the potato's were flavorless and the beans were very greasy. The bread pudding that was ordered for dessert certainly ended the meal on a high note-it was sooooooo good! I dine here at least 2x/month since Rey opens his doors. Food and service is usually top notch, however, tonight's dining experience was horrible. Food was awful. Service was dismissive. Seating location (booth 101) dusty and dirty. I mentioned this to the floor manager since we were told Rey himself was unavailable (which I believe bc Rey is attentive to all diners and would've rectified the issues to make a more pleasurable experience). Floor manager was very dismissive of our concerns. He just shrugged his shoulders, covered in ugly plaid, and said "okay". Tonight's experience ruined all the previous dining experiences here. If we do decide to return, tonight's experience will always loom. Suggestion: Don't dine here if the owner is away. read more

I'm kinda surpised that I still haven't reviewed this place. I've been here at least 10 times now and they definitely have BEST steak in the area. It is consistently good and perfectly cooked. It's the only place I've never had to send a steak back. Why? Because they get it right in the first place. It's well seasoned and oh-so-tender! Words aren't enough- go try a filet for yourself. Their sides are delicious but not my favorite ever, but notice I said they are delicious, so still, go have them. I love the Au Gratin potatoes. You won't regret it. It was good! Just really loud, it doesn't seem like they took a lot of social distancing measures. Drinks were good but definitely had to be slightly tipsy to enjoy the food.... food took a while to come out but they were busy. The owner nice and talked to us and yes food was good but not OUTSTANDING, had better. Definitely a little pricy for sub-par food but over all maybe a 7.5-8 out of 10. The ambiance could use a little work. Kinda felt like you were walking into your grandparents house, but not in a good way.... we couldn't get access to the voodoo lounge like we requested and did absolutely nothing for what we were celebrating. Me and the wife decided to try Rey's on a recommendation..Here are my thoughts : * Service was ok ...nothing great. * Bread service was not good ..was cold and just not appetizing. * We always order the same thing at steak restaurants so it's easy to compare ...we both ordered filets ...medium well. The filets came out medium ..so that wasn't cool and have had a lot of filets and these just had no flavor ..tender but not the most tender I've ever had..or even close to the most . * When ya pay 10 bucks a side, they should be at least decent. We ordered the garlic mashed potatoes..very underwhelming...the creamed corn was decent, but could of been better . The best filets we have had out are BLT in DC and Halls in Charleston, SC. I was shocked at how disappointed I was in this place. We've been to some other "fancy" steakhouses in the area, and have been wowed by the food & service. I'll break it down here: Service- it was fair. We had a party of 8, and it wasn't super busy. We got a round of drinks initially but we had to hunt down our staff for more. Water was refilled but no one asked for more items. Drinks- they were ok. Wine list was really small and not a lot of high end wine options. Mixed drinks were weak and super sweet, I got a smoked old fashioned and it was soo sweet. Food- so disappointing. Steaks were tough and over cooked. Lamb was really fatty and tough and no flavor. Everything on the side was under seasoned. Mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box. Live music- this was 5 stars. Don't know the guy but he was the best thing about this meal. I wouldn't drive all the way out for this ever - and even if it was a free meal, I'd decline. read more

So my first review after a few visits was 5 stars. Tonight was a significant downgrade. Starting with a sanitation score of 90 which is NEVER ok and had I known, wouldn't have come. Service is top notch. Always has been and zero complaints. Rey's has service down perfectly. Tonight I ordered the same thing I have multiple times, plus my husbands meal. The pros-shrimp is always good. Honestly we've rarely come across something we didn't like. Drinks were great too. Cons-prices have gone WAY up. But we saw and were prepared given its Rey's. My beef tornadoes were chewy and "different" than all the other times I've had them. Also, the plate was full of a buttery/watery substance. So odd. But I continued. Mashed sweet potatoes were ok but not great and barely eaten. My husband got the Caesar salad which was a plate of barely green lettuce. Last-NY cheesecake. You can't possibly do that wrong and it looked so pretty. It was not good at all. Smelled like spoiled milk. Looked pretty, but didn't taste good. Spotted Rey chatting up a table in the bar on the way out. I would recommend he try some of the current food so he can get a feel for what's actually going on. I came here after arriving in town and looking at Yelp for restaurants in the area. It would have been my mother's 82nd birthday and I wanted to celebrate with a good dinner. The girl I spoke to on the phone was SO friendly and helpful! The food... WOW! IT. WAS. FANTASTIC! We got: Ribeye, Eggplant Royale, a wedge salad, French onion soup, steamed broccoli and Lyonnaise potatoes. Was one of the BEST steaks I have ever had! After my daughter and I had a rather lackluster dinner at another establishment, and still feeling hungry, she suggested that we pop into Rey's for a shrimp cocktail-brilliant! It was a busy Friday evening, but we were quickly seated in the Voodoo Lounge. Now, there are a couple of things you can always count on at Rey's, consistently great food, and a strong drink! The bartender makes a mean Manhattan, so I indulged. Onto the shrimp cocktails. Four jumbo shrimp were served on a bed of mixed greens with a spicy remoulade sauce as well as a traditional red cocktail sauce. With a squeeze of lemon over the plate, it turned into a salad of sorts. The shrimp were super fresh, and the sauces so tasty. Wrapping up our evening at Rey's was the best idea of the night. Outstanding! Have been here numerous times over the years, for date nights and for corporate events and always had good experiences. Most recently, I attended a business party, and we all thought it was stellar. Our group presented a few challenges in that a few folks staggered in really late, and one has allergy issues. Plus it was Triangle Restaurant Week, so they were really busy throughout the restaurant as well, yet David could not have taken better care of us! As for the food and drinks...again, outstanding! I can personally attest to the Crabcakes, Crab Cocktail, the Grouper Lafayette and the Creme Brulee. All perfect! Everyone else enjoyed their steaks. Now, I'm not just saying this because I didn't have to pay, but for the quality and being a fine dining restaurant the prices are not bad compared to other steak houses in the area. Just sayin'. We came here for Christmas Eve dinner. From the ouside, Rey's looks like a Banquet Hall with the drive up entrance and valet parking. Walking inside, the decor was very dark and I dare say, a little antiquated. It really felt like a step back in time, between the wallpaper, servers wearing tuxedos, and chairs with floral designs. The staff was conducted themselves in a prim and proper fashion, but they definitely knew the menu and what dished to recommend. They also did a good job keeping our water glasses full, always a key component for me. Mom ordered one glass of wine and I got a Pernicious IPA, before switching over to iced tea. The thinly sliced bread was served warm in a basket. There was white bread, some of which had some herbs on it, and there was the standard dark bread with the golden raisins, which always catch me by surprise. We started with a pair of salads, I had the Romaine hearts with artichokes, hearts of palm, and I substituted fresh mozzarella cheese for the Bleu cheese. Also I went with the lemon-basil vinaigrette, much more my style than the raspberry variety. Speaking of raspberries, the garnish for the salad was four raspberries. Interesting idea, but I guess the idea is to complement what would have been the dressing. If anything, maybe some tomatoes would have been a nice addition. Mom had the Jackson Square chopped salad, which had greens, bacon, eggs, olives, hearts of palm, croutons, Bleu cheese, red onions, along with some crispy onions on top. There were too many ingredients I just won't eat, but I impressed with the presentation. All the ingredients were basically compressed together in the shape of an oval and served on a plate. Very pretty. I wasn't feeling the entree options, so we ordered a few different seafood appetizers: the Shrimp Orleans, seared scallops, and fried oysters. We got four shrimp and scallops for $13 and $14 respectively. Excellent flavor on both, but not the best value. The oysters were crispy and I liked the Cajun aioli for that little touch of creaminess and spice. It was served over a bed of succotash, definitely not something I'm used to. But with the aioli, it was ok. For a side dish, we ordered Lyonnaise potatoes, one of my favorites. The potatoes came out crispy on the outside, and nicely seasoned. But the inside could have been a little bit softer, they needed to be cooked just a little bit longer. Our splurge for the night was the Bananas Foster. I haven't had this tableside, so for $21, we went for it. And it was a fun presentation, once the alcohol was poured into the red hot pan with the brown sugar and bananas, the flame came up several feet high! Really a fun show, and the flambeed bananas tasted great over the scoops of vanilla ice cream. The bill came to $112.00 before tip. Personally, I would return if they had a happy hour menu or some lunch specials. But if you're looking for a Po-boy or anything like that, you're not going to get that.
