We came here for Christmas Eve dinner. From the ouside, Rey's looks like a Banquet Hall with the drive up entrance and valet parking. Walking inside, the decor was very dark and I dare say, a little antiquated. It really felt like a step back in time, between the wallpaper, servers wearing tuxedos, and chairs with floral designs. The staff was conducted themselves in a prim and proper fashion, but they definitely knew the menu and what dished to recommend. They also did a good job keeping our water glasses full, always a key component for me. Mom ordered one glass of wine and I got a Pernicious IPA, before switching over to iced tea. The thinly sliced bread was served warm in a basket. There was white bread, some of which had some herbs on it, and there was the standard dark bread with the golden raisins, which always catch me by surprise. We started with a pair of salads, I had the Romaine hearts with artichokes, hearts of palm, and I substituted fresh mozzarella cheese for the Bleu cheese. Also I went with the lemon-basil vinaigrette, much more my style than the raspberry variety. Speaking of raspberries, the garnish for the salad was four raspberries. Interesting idea, but I guess the idea is to complement what would have been the dressing. If anything, maybe some tomatoes would have been a nice addition. Mom had the Jackson Square chopped salad, which had greens, bacon, eggs, olives, hearts of palm, croutons, Bleu cheese, red onions, along with some crispy onions on top. There were too many ingredients I just won't eat, but I impressed with the presentation. All the ingredients were basically compressed together in the shape of an oval and served on a plate. Very pretty. I wasn't feeling the entree options, so we ordered a few different seafood appetizers: the Shrimp Orleans, seared scallops, and fried oysters. We got four shrimp and scallops for $13 and $14 respectively. Excellent flavor on both, but not the best value. The oysters were crispy and I liked the Cajun aioli for that little touch of creaminess and spice. It was served over a bed of succotash, definitely not something I'm used to. But with the aioli, it was ok. For a side dish, we ordered Lyonnaise potatoes, one of my favorites. The potatoes came out crispy on the outside, and nicely seasoned. But the inside could have been a little bit softer, they needed to be cooked just a little bit longer. Our splurge for the night was the Bananas Foster. I haven't had this tableside, so for $21, we went for it. And it was a fun presentation, once the alcohol was poured into the red hot pan with the brown sugar and bananas, the flame came up several feet high! Really a fun show, and the flambeed bananas tasted great over the scoops of vanilla ice cream. The bill came to $112.00 before tip. Personally, I would return if they had a happy hour menu or some lunch specials. But if you're looking for a Po-boy or anything like that, you're not going to get that. It's really more of a fine dining experience. read more

Rey's does not disappoint. My wife had been here previously (several years) and could not say enough good things about the steaks and service. So. It was appropriate to take her here for her birthday dinner. Our server Adrian was awesome. He provided excellent advice helping with our selections. We started with the Fried Oysters appetizer. They were very tender and succulent with just the right amount of crisp. They were served over a bed of succotash. That was followed by a bowl of Gumbo. The chicken and andouille sausage delicious and the gumbo had just the right level of spice and heat. Great flavor. Of course the Steaks were perfection. My wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the Ribeye with a side of creamed spinach. The 2018 Duckhorn Cabernet was a perfect compliment. I finished off with the Rey's Coffee and my wife was gifted the incredibly rich chocolate torte with raspberries. We will have to return soon. read more

This is our go to steak house! Elle and Diana behind the bar are friendly, make awesome drinks, and provide top notch service. The lobster Mac n cheese and shrimp cocktail are absolutely delicious. My birthday dinner was spectacular. We ordered Beef Carpaccio to start...it was sliced so perfectly thin, and absolutely melted in your mouth. For our Entrees, we had an aged bone-in Ribeye, Stuffed Flounder and Veal Marsala. The steak was cooked perfectly medium-rare, and was nicely marbled. The flounder was delectable and so fresh; the crabmeat stuffing was a sweet blue crab. The Veal Marsala was so tender and could be cut with a fork, and the Marsala sauce was the best I have tasted. For dessert we ordered crème brûlées (our favorites), they were scrumptious! The Vanilla beans were evident in the creamy custard, and the sugary crust was perfect. The service was impeccable....extremely attentive and professional without being intrusive. Rey's is our "go-to" place when we want an excellent meal, ambience and service. Came here with high expectations after the amazing reviews I had read when researching a place for my grandparents 50th anniversary. The night started out well with attentive servers and an engaging manager, but soon started to regress as the night went on. The food was not as good as we had expected based on the high ratings, and the server started coming to us less. We made it clear how we wanted our steaks prepared and two of the steaks we ordered were not even close to what we had asked for. We waited for the server to come near us to let her know, and she didn't come until everyone was tired of waiting. We asked for the check and waited another 10 minutes. The food and service here was definitely not worth the $700 check at the end of the night. Desserts were good. Save yourself the money and do to-go desserts. read more

Lovely building! This is definitely a special occasion Restaurant. Somewhere to go for a birthday or anniversary, or celebration. Reservations go fast, but they have a section of bar tables which are perfect for "first come, first served." The service here is EXCELLENT and nobody is too busy to stop and say hi. We were seated, our drink orders taken by our great waiter Mike when a young lady was passing by with a stack of clean plates. She noticed we only had waters and she set those plates down on a nearby tray quickly coming over to say hi and asked if anybody had taken our drink order or if we had any questions. The manager also named Mike stopped by to chat with us a few times and a lovely mature young lady whose name we didn't catch (but she's been there since 2005) also stopped by our table. Our food was F A B U L O U S!! I am super picky about seafood and don't usually waste my time ordering it so far inland because I like it fresh. Mike told us (without my asking) that it was fresh never frozen and that was all I needed. I ordered the Grouper Lafayette and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! My sister had a ribeye, my Dad the rack of lamb, my niece NY strip. There were clean plates all around. The sides are a la carte and also did not disappoint. They are shareable so 1 side dish is big enough for 2. We ordered 3 and they were all perfect. My picky sister loved the sautéed spinach and she usually doesn't bother in restaurants. If you're looking for a place to celebrate, date night, or just excellent food...this is your place! PRO TIP Lobster Mac is not printed on the menu but I can confirm it's a side there. We were here on a Thursday night for a private event. It was a group of 10 people in a closed off room. This is a great place to have a small group meeting. Dinner was served at 7. We started with a mixed greens salad with a tangy vinaigrette. It had a few cherry tomatoes and just the right amount of goat cheese. Very yummy !!! Next was our main courses. I had the "Scottish Salmon". Waitress said this fish was imported from Scotland (frozen). It was quite delicious with a mango salsa on top. It also had been basted in quite a lot of butter. No wonder it tasted so good ! Hubby had a (very) thick Filet that was cooked to perfection. They serve your sides in bowls (on the side). We had crispy potatoes and green beans. Both were good. For dessert we both chose cheesecake. We got one to go. One piece is enough for 2 people. The star of the night was seriously the French press coffee. It was 8 o'clock at this point and I declined coffee. I tasted my husbands coffee and WOAH !!!! This was easily the best coffee I have ever tasted. Our fabulous waitress left us an entire pot !!!! I took my wife to this fine dining establishment and we were not disappointed. From our first appetizer to the main course and dessert it was Fantastic. Michael our server was Awesome. Very professional , personable and positive. He is a great asset to the team at Rey's. Overall We give this a five star rating. The only thing I would suggest is improvement in the front hostess staff. They need to improve their game and be professional and greet customers with a smile and positive attitude. Elegant yet comfortable, food was excellent and made exactly how you expected. One caveat, I asked for my steak(filet mignon) which if not mistaken is the expensive at there to be medium well, not sure if there are different guidelines on what medium well is, but mine still had blood in it, I sent it back since I expect nothing but perfection and was then sent some burnt pieces of meat. I'm sure the chef was pissed for the meat sent back but at this type of restaurants, I expect patience from the chef. Five stars waiters, 2 stars chef and his ego. Waiters are phenomenal. A full rack of lamb, get in my mouth right now! Read on for all the juicy details! I sat in the bar, it was my "date night" to myself. The bartender always has a smile and is so super friendly. There are lounge chairs and couches were you can chill or a tall top bar table, completely classy! Food choice, easy peasy for me... Rack of lamb... of course my go to meat... hell yeah! I opted to not get any sides, as I really just wanted the meat. It is $35 for the lamb... pricey, but let me tell you right now. It is worth triple that price (Mr. Rey, please don't triple the price! :-) ) This is in my top 3 lamb that I have ever had in my life! That really says a lot! After I finished my first glass of wine, the bread came out and wow... so many different kinds and YUMMY! Such a great accompaniment to my entrée that was about to come... Now, my lamb is served... OMG ... can I day that again? OMFG. . 8 chops arrive and they are fat and juicy. I was not expecting this portion. The meat filled an entire platter! The flavors were so on point that the "yum" sounds coming out of my mouth could have been taken in a sexual manner. The lamb was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the seasonings were do on point that that recipe is worth millions! I seriously did not want to swallow the meat, I wanted to suck out every bit of flavor and never let it leave my mouth or my memory! I am telling you right now, holy amazeballs! If you don't get anything else out of this review, just know that you will thank me for pointing you into the direction of the most foodgasmic lamb chops you will ever have in your life! I opted to save 4 chops for later (I took the bones home too so I could gnaw every little bit left off and I was trying to be classy.. ha ha) DESSERT... shut your face, chocolate/mousse cake... to freaking die for. Went here to celebrate our son's 21st birthday. Food and service was good but NOT worth the money. Ended up spending $325 for 4. Granted now I knew how much it was going to be but IMO it's outrageous. To end the dinner however we gave the hostess $400 and was expecting change. Never did i say keep the change. We waited 15 minutes and I finally asked with my hand up "miss?" She ignored me. I asked again, she ignored me. Asked a 3rd time, ignored me. My husband and I decided to visit Rey's for the first time Saturday night. We were able to get a reservation quite easily two days before, maybe this should have been a hint. The atmosphere is pretty, but not classy. They sat us right by the swinging kitchen door, which OK sometimes does happen. Everything is à la carte which means for $50 you get a Ribeye steak and nothing else. We also had a greasy, floating in butter, chicken marsala. Our Caesar salad taste like mustard ,what happened to the anchovies and this also was an extra $10. The worst was the $10 potatoes au gratin which were basically old potatoes pieces with a piece of American cheese on top. So would I recommend this restaurant, definitely not. We all know there are much better steakhouses in Raleigh! read more

Rey's was rockin' from the time of walking in the door, to sitting at a bar seat (my normal) the service was FANTASTIC. (Jeremy happily pointed the direction of the bar!) The bar service was the best. Bartender (Michael) wiped down the bar and set my place w napkin and utensils. Rye Manhattan and all is good in the world. Bread, Homemade chips, even better. FYI. Although I am solo as usual, the bar is the most romantic/social place to sit. Food quality is excellent and very tasty. I had the Chicken Marsala. Dang, it was quite a portion, when I was trying to eat light. Def a return guest when in the area for corporate training. Pros: Fantastic steaks. Probably the best ribeye I've had in my life. Zero complaints here. Full bar, so no shortage of liquor options. Solid dessert options as well. Chocolate truffle cake was delicious. Finally, for those with celiac, almost anything can be made gluten free as they use corn starch in their cooking process. Cons: The sides are lackluster and a bit overpriced for what you get. No better example than the handful of small, steamed broccoli heads for $10. The "lyonnaise" potatoes were just potato slices sitting on a tiny bed of sautéed onions. Not really tossed or mixed in well. Same theme for the other sides and even most of the appetizers. If they can just spruce these up, Rey's would earn a 5/5 from me. Overall, a very good steakhouse worth the drive to Crossroads area. read more

Old school New Orleans style place. Great service, we were well taken care of by the greeters at the door, our waiter, and the bus staff. Food wise, results were mixed. Beef carpaccio and the new orleans shrimp were both excellent appetizers, the carpaccio in particular was very well done. Turtle soup was good, onion soup was not--it had a very thin taste. Amongst the entrees, the grouper is excellent as are the lamb chops and tournedos. The pork chop though was dry and not very flavorful. Deserts are a highlight here. Cherries jubilee, bread pudding, and the chocolate truffle cake were all outstanding. All in all, it was a good dining experience, just some misses on the food side. read more

We're from the DC area where you will find some of the best restaurants around so I personally did not expect much out of this restaurent coming into town for Valentine's Day but boy was I wrong... and glad I was. We made reservations for the Saturday evening at 9:00 and arrived around 8:50 then seated in a booth (requested with the reservation) at 9:01. Let me rewind, they have complimentary valet parking and a coat check that we did not take advantage of. Ok, fast forward, they have themed rooms with decor to match, I thought that was pretty neat. Our waiter was absolutely fantastic (middle age black guy) and provided some of the best customer service we've ever received. We ordered calamari to start and surprisingly it was served on a bed of flavorful vegetables (never had calamari served this way). For entrees we had rib eye and a rack of lamb with added sides. Everything was delicious, moist, and cooked to perfection. I would recommend this restaurent to anyone looking for a nice sit down for a date night, corporate event, friends night out, family dinner, etc. Lastly, although there's no dress code, don't come in athletic gear... no jeans and a t-shirt read more

Rey's lived up to the hype. As a telecommunications worker I've worked at Rey's a couple of times. Always seeing it from the maintenance room to the office. Rey and his wife have always been very kind and down to earth people with my interactions with them. Even when their phones were all messed up, they kept their cool and waited for solutions. Tonight however I was a customer. Due to the price of things nowadays, date night with my wife of thirty three years is not always as great as tonight. Big thank you to Rey's staff for being above and beyond excellence. The food was to good to even begin to describe( I would sell my truck for one more serving of that bread pudding) and just being in the room made us feel like, well to quote Rey , " a guaranteed fine dining experience." I will admit it is strange for me to review Rey's since they specialize in steak and I am a vegetarian. But I have been there a few times and the selection for non-meat eaters is limited. Even the soups have a meat base. Normally have 2 vegetarian dishes to chose from- grilled veggies or pasta. Pasta is normally flavorless and watery and veggies are overcooked and soft.
