When you go to a place called "Rib Hut" you obviously need to order the ribs. They were pretty good! I'd skip on the brisket personally. No smoke rings on the brisket, kinda dry, and a bit tough to eat. I like my brisket with smoke rings, juicy, and smokey....mmmmm :) But the ribs - the ribs are a for sure go to! We ordered family style. - BBQ Mixer - Beef Rib Platter - Brisket Platter That was enough to feed 4 people and we still went home with some leftovers. You get some flavorful ribs with some pretty attentive servers. Plenty of seating - very comfortable atmosphere. Pretty dim inside to keep that hot El Paso sun out (thank the Lord). Not sure what happened, but the quality of the ribs here went downhill for us. We came by today and picked up 3 beef ribs with 2 sides. The ribs themselves were completely different than the last time. The first thing I noticed was that the meat was extremely tough - we both had to use a knife with a good amount of force to get most of it off the bone. The meat was well-seasoned, but that was about the only positive. It was dry with tons of fat that was difficult to chew through. For our sides, we chose the mac & cheese and curly fries. The mac & cheese was just as creamy and delicious as last time, and the curly fries were about average. While our ribs were well-seasoned and the mac & cheese is still great, we most likely won't be back for a while. I'm gonna preface this review...I believe that everyone has their own reasons to like a certain spot. My brother in law talked up Rib Hut like you wouldn't believe. He said it was delicious and was a treat when he went to UTEP. ‍ Now I believe that if you're a poor starving student and needed a lot of protein for a good price, Rib Hut probably meets all those requirements. I saw a lot of UTEP football players and students while getting take out. But, after actually trying the food, I'd gladly pay a little more to not hurt my teeth. They're certainly not hurting for business as takeout was hopping. The waitress was friendly and recommended that I try the baby backs, the beef ribs, and I knew I wanted the brisket. I should've stuck with the brisket alone, but I thought a place like the Rib Hut would have good ribs. It didn't. Maybe it was an off day, but both the baby back and the beef ribs were completely dry and extremely hard to eat. There was no falling off the bone anything...you have to fight like a dog to get it off the bone. The brisket was tender and juicy and the house made sides (mac and cheese and steak fries) were good. The Sunday special of $17.99 was an extremely good price for the amount of food given. I just wish I had just ordered brisket for all the meats. I did get a small BBQ brisket burrito for $3, and that was amazing. If you do go, stick with the brisket. If you want ribs, the food trucks will serve you the fall off the bone style, unless you want to pretend pero. read more

Rib hut was so so good. I love any type of barbecue but rib hut does it differently. Their customer service is top notch, I felt like I was being served by an old family friend, my waitress went above and beyond (I think her name was maria, she was a nice hispanic lady). I was really craving a baked potato with my steak and she told me they were out, I was disappointed but picked something else. Moments later she came back with a loaded baked potato and asked if I wanted the last one. I gladly accepted! My girlfriend and I literally ordered the menu to have a sample of everything, I would say you can't go wrong with their spuds, ONION RINGS, baby back ribs, brisket, and their RIB EYE. I'm a small girl and I had some appetizers, some bbq from my gf's plate, the potato, and somehow still managed to devour my steak in less than 10 minutes. My stomach didn't have room but i made some! It is kind of funny how I had never been here before the pandemic. My husband and I do like BBQ a lot, so we've heard many people recommend this place. The reason that we never really been before was their lack of green options on the side dish choice. We normally opted for FD in the past, because they had green bean, broccoli, and pineapple options in their sides. However, ever since the pandemic, FD no longer offer these leaner choices, so we decided to give Rib Hut a try. The first impression we got from our order(s) from Rib Hut is that their portions are HUGE! Each of their entree plates are good for two meals or two person. I love their green beans when it is on the rotation for veggie of the day. It's soft and flavorful, yet still keeps its green color. I wish I can learn how to do that. The quality of the meats vary every time tho. Sometimes it's right on the point, sometimes its over cooked, sometimes it can use some extra time. This is a really good restaurant if you want some meaty beef ribs and delicious bbq sauce. My wife and I had not been here in over 20 years and we decided it was time to come back. We decided to share a plate and got the 3 meat combo with 2 beef ribs and brisket, with Mac n cheese and potato salad. The sides were okay. The potato salad was good. Better than most places I've tried. The Mac n cheese was just basic. The brisket was good, not great, but the ribs and bbq sauce carried the weight. I wish I could give 10 stars. This place is beyond amazing and delicious. It looks like an old tavern on the inside, it's so perfect and cozy, and the food is absolutely PERFECT. Ordered the turkey club and got a massive heap of turkey topped with bacon crumbles and melty cheese I loved every bite. The curly fries were so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I added an extra side of potato salad thinking it would be a tiny cup but it turned out to be a big cup that was practically overflowing. The portions are huge and you're definitely not going to leave hungry afterwards. The service was great, as our server even asked if we wanted drinks to go and brought us big 32 oz cups. Horrific. Ordered 2lbs of chopped brisket, which equated to "recycled" meat. Those in the food service industry probably know and can tell when food has been "saved" and redistributed. Rib Hut A few locals recommended this for good BBQ. Now I think these locals are loco. The Beef brisket was not smokey enough nor juicy. Baby back ribs were not even teeth tender and lacked flavor. The saying, "don't judge a book by its cover" is absolutely true for Rib Hut. The name Rib Hut might sound funny or even weird, but this place is a hidden gem! We stopped in here for lunch today and it was amazing. The staff were all very friendly and we were warmly greeted when we walked in and promptly given a table. The decor is eclectic, funky, and fun. It's one of those fun "local" places. My friend and I both had the Rib Hut Sampler Platter. The ribs were meaty, juicy, and cooked perfectly. Their BBQ sauce is some of the best I've ever had. A little rustic and run down but the barbecue is fantastic! I stopped in because I was craving some barbecue brisket and this place had some promising reviews. It was Thursday night so it wasn't very crowded. I was immediately seated. The waiter was a young guy and very friendly and helpful. He explained the menu items too me and I opted for the Barbecue brisket burrito and something they call the Esther's Potato which is a baked potato with barbecue brisket on it. Both were fantastic! But a few bold restaurants attempt to stake their claim at this unfilled niche in El Paso. Enter Rib Hut. This A-frame shack near the University is nestled among the neighborhood's burger chains of McDonald's and Whataburger. Park in the designated lot and walk in to discover a dark and intimate room. The bar up front hosts only a handful of seats, but the remainder of the space squeezes in plenty of wooden booths, tables, and picnic benches. Like your prototypical college dive bar, pictures of accolades, sports posters, and beer signs and banners adorn the walls and slanted ceilings. Tex Mex'ed out for the week, my family and I decided on Rib Hut for an early dinner downtown. We perused the menu, deciding on a Rib Hut Sampler Platter, the Brisket Patter, and the Smoked Chicken Platter -- each of white came with two sides (we got Okra, Onion Rings, Sweet Potato Fries, Curly Fries, Mac & Cheese, and Beans). The service was friendly, but our waiter was quick to forget some of our requests. Within 15 minutes, a mountain of food was piled onto our bench, and we ravenously rose to the challenge. First off, the sweet, vinegar-y BBQ sauce was one of the highlights -- the more BBQ sauce on any of the meats, the better it tasted. Tragically, though, Rib Hut doesn't do justice to its namesake. The beef ribs were tough and dry, while the baby back ribs, while tender, just barely surpassed "good." Fortunately, in stark contrast, the short ribs hit the spot: juicy, flavorful, and slathered with BBQ sauce. Like the baby back ribs, the brisket was tender and very peppery, but erred on the dry side -- I doused it in BBQ sauce to give it some flavor. Similarly, the all-white-meat chicken was surprisingly juicy considering the thin slices of breast, but suffered from lack of flavor -- more BBQ sauce it is. The side orders were enormous and overflowing from the plates. My favorites were the sweet potato fries and the fried okra -- crisp and starchy bites to complement the abundance of meat. The mac & cheese, however, felt only a small step above Kraft, and the others just barely rivaled fast-food for the title of Most Underwhelming. To round out the meal, my family shared the Peach Cobbler, topped with an enormous scoop of vanilla ice cream. I appreciated that cobbler and the plate were served piping hot, and the flavors were heavenly and buttery. However, the concoction had a gummy texture, indicating to me that the cobbler wasn't all too fresh. At a shade under $80, the bill felt about right for the quantity (high) and quality (middling) of food. I probably wouldn't recommend RIb Hut as a go-to option in El Paso, but it certainly is a relatively inexpensive, passable option if you are looking some non-Tex Mex eats. read more

You have probably driven by this place on numerous occassions as I have. Well today my friend invited me for lunch and I have to say I was impressed. The food was pretty good, I had the BBQ sliders and the ice cream with brownies for dessert. The dessert, well, if you saw my picture, the dessert was unreal! Inside of that whipped cream topped with nuts was a brownie and ice cream holding the base of the sweet tasting ice cream brownie together. Prices were fairly reasonable and all seemed pretty fair. The wait staff was excellent and we had numerous assistance from the three people who made sure we were content. The restaurant is old, not very big, but has a good feel to it. This review is a long time coming. I've been coming here for two years whenever I worked in El Paso. For one, the building itself is freaking cool. It's an A frame house with stuff all over the walls. As a good barbecue place should be able to do, when you approach the building, you should already smell the barbecue itself, being prepared, and this one followed suit. The staff was very kind, and as I walked in each visit and always made me feel welcome. The first time I came here I had the ribs, which were excellent, I believe a beef rib to be exact. The following time I got dark meat chicken. Both times were very fulfilling and delicious. I have such an appreciation for well run barbecue spots that accommodate their establishment with good food, and nothing short of that. The sweet tea was good, the side of mac & cheese and green beans were great, the toast was good. You name it, I bet that the majority of items on this menu are worth the price. I got the gringo style brisket sandwich (sauce on the side, because any bbq aficionado will tell you the brisket has to stand on its own merits) with curly fries. The meat was plentiful, the cheese ratio ideal, and the onions grilled to perfection. I came back a week later and called in a repeat of last weeks order. This time the service from Larry was prompt and friendly. However, once I got home I realized there was pickles and jalapeños on my order when I asked for them to be omitted. The parking lot is so tight they have a guy with an umbrella directing traffic. The interior is very old and dated and need a total cleaning as there is crap on the Jean short curtains that don't make for an appealing view. I ordere the rib platter and the bark was good but the meat was not fall off the bone tender and the beef ribs were not thoroughly cooked. The waitress was nice and the food came out fast but not as fast as I'm getting out of here. Update the owner contacted me and apologized for the conditions there. Found this place on Yelp. The bark and smoke ring on the meat caught my eye right away. I was a little skeptical about trying as my wife doesn't eat beef or pork. However she was willing to try it. Everything look great in person so look over the menu or you will be pulled in every direction. Angel was our server and he went above and beyond even during a lunchtime rush. He gave grade A service throughout the whole visit. The food was delicious, beef ribs were meaty, tender and tasty. Turkey was tender and the sauce was a great compliment.
