I have been wanting to come here for over a year now and finally got the chance to tonight! Dear lord exceptional does not cover it, me and my husband both ordered the steak and it did not disappoint. So beyond phenomenal, there are no words other than orgasmic ! My steak literally melt in my mouth. Sweet baby Jesus! Best meal I have ever had in my life aside from the potatoes, they were not bad but not great either. We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary at Ricardo's last night and it was the perfect place for a romantic night out! We had the wagyu beef carpaccio, the Caesar and house salad (the sherry vinaigrette was wonderful!), a filet mignon, and a ribeye. Everything was incredible! The meat was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were flavorful, the Wagyu beef literally melted in your mouth, and we had some delicious cocktails to go with it! Ricardo's was absolutely amazing! We got the beef and shrimp diablo and the fresh Hama Hama clams as starters. The flavor in both of them was unbelievable, i just wanted to drink the juice. My husband and i split the 30 day chateaubriand, it was so tender and flavorful. The sauce that they pair with it was perfect. I enjoyed the roasted potatoes and broccoli that was paired with it. The atmosphere is cool, the only complaint would be that we were seated in a back room, in the corner that was maybe 4 tables and our alcoholic beverages took a long time to get. This is a steakhouse. I told them to update their name, it's actually Chef Ricardo's or Ricardo's Restaurant. It looks like a little house from the outside, with white Christmas lights still up, and the inside ambiance is rustic. You're going to pay $40 a plate for dinner there, but in my experience, it was FANTASTIC! I had the Fillet Mignon and when you talk about "melt in your mouth," this is it. The broccoli was blanched and then grilled in the mesquite smoke, and was wonderful. I chose the polenta for my starch, and it was also quite good. The service was great, though we unknowingly came in right as they were closing (oops). I didn't understand this fact until I saw a server pull the "open sign" off. We didn't feel hurried at all- the staff acted like they had all the time in the world for us. If you're looking for an amazing steak dinner, go to Ricardo's. If you're looking for mac and cheese and pizza, you won't find it here. They do make their own pasta daily, FYI. I thought the place was great. read more

To Brian Fischer Rebuttal: the staff was the only saving grace to my experience. They earned the 2nd star at Ricardos because they were hard working Americans unlike the buffoon who replied to my review. I absolutely notified the staff of my over cooked plate but they tried to argue it was prepare correctly. I would of loved to go toe to toe with a waiter about true meat temps but I did not want cause a scene. The reply I was given only solidifies my initial observation about this being an elitist business who is entirely out if touch with it's customer base. I want this to be public so others can make a choice give there business to local restaurants who care about the community they operate in. Very disappointed in the attack against my actual experience. Shame on you Ricardos. Shame. If I owned this business I would fire Brian Fischer and hire one of the waiters or hostesses to fill that position since it's pretty clear to me he has some rage issues to deal with. To you Brian I would like a refund since you rage posted a totally emotional response to a negative experience. The second star is for the staff. I ordered a 50 dollar ribeye med rare and they gave it to me med well. The people who ordered the 100 dollar cut had there temps perfect. This is a prime example of an organization only giving positive service to those who pay the most. I live down the road and really wanted to have a great local experience. If you want to spend less then a 100 bucks on a steak yy ou might as well go to p&q's because they don't charge you 50 bucks for a steak that is over cooked. read more

This place is an Olympia/Lacey staple. We had not been to the new location yet. Our previous visit was when Ricardo's was still in the purple house. So we found ourselves needing a place to get something small for dinner and it was getting late so this was our option. First: the decor is great and the place has a cozy vibe. EXCEPT the whole meat locker display when you walk in. We get it; you want to be known for your steaks but very tacky. We were seated; ordered our drinks and that's where it goes downhill. We didn't see one thing on the menu that really got us excited. We asked the server what she recommended on the apps list. She proceeded to just say what the menu said word for word and followed everything up with "it's delicious". Ok, no help. We ordered two French onion soups to start with and then two apps that sounded the "best" to us to come after our soup. Husband ordered an old fashioned and I ginger beer. Old fashioned was half full: for these prices fill the glass up. And it was the wrong color. Orange. Then we got our soup. It was a salty sludge of onions with some weird bread/cracker on top that had a bad taste. We asked for bread to help out the taste of the soup that usually comes complementary at nice restaurants with astronomical prices. They were waiting on it; someone made a mistake (no big deal it happens). Well there happened to be someone seated behind us who the servers were fawning over. He got offered two plates of bread before we even got one. By the time we got some we proceeded to eat our soup but then our apps came out and the whole find room on the table for our oversized plates with tiny portions game ensued. It's our pet peeve to get the next course when we are still eating the first. Apps were at best OK. Scallops were good but served with these weird chorizo sliced fried chips?? The prawns were good size but the spices were not good. Everything was way too salty and I'm thinking a weird chipotle flavor?? The beef trimmings were not good even though the beef display begs to differ!!! Bottom line for us: typical Olympia/Lacey "nice" restaurant that is way overpriced and just not great (yes there are few exceptions like Swing and Gardners). We see no reason to really go back. There was not much else on the menu we would like to go back and try. There are great butcher shops in the area with quality affordable steaks and if you own a Blackstone you are golden and will save $90 at the very least. read more

On my birthday over 50 this was definitely the place to be. Aged beef is like aged anything. The longer it sits the better it gets. And this meal well I have waited 10 years in the City of Olympia to find this place. The meal was exceptional. The waitress exceptional. The wine exceptional. The music? Maybe it could be a little bit better but Stevie Ray Vaughan Paradise couldn't be in all the speakers in town. Nor could Jazz, nor could classical, nor could anything worth hearing, besides what they had on. But the meal was so good we hardly noticed and even though it's pricey is a great place to be on a birthday celebration or any other Celebration. read more

Last night I made reservations at Ricardo's for a birthday dinner for my wife. I was beyond disappointed! We ordered French onion soup an it was the worst soup ever! It was broth and a little bit of bread! No onions and not one bit of cheese! We both ordered a steak witch wasn't to bad but the vegetables were horrible! They have sexy beef and that is all there is too it. We love it there although, sometimes some of the staff acts like they are too good to speak to us. They don't actually look at us when they are talking and keep it pretty short. That's annoying. I think it's bc we don't usually dress up to go eat there. We look like regular ppl. My husband at least puts jeans on. Like we've never come in in basketball shorts and sweats. Although I can tell you we can still pay the bill either way. But that's the impression I've gotten from a few of them. Met the head chef once, he brought out our platter of goat cheese, capers and all the things we love. He was nice. We always have the same waiter and I can't remember his name but he knows I like the German heff they sell. So overall we are going to continue to go and eat there, I just think the stuck up attitude of some of them needs to go. How would they like it if I came up in there acting like that. The only reason I didn't give a 5star is the last 2xs they didn't have lamb. I loved their chops, best i'd Ever eaten. I got fish and steak those times. I also shared the soufflé (need 15minutes to make, perfection to eat.) It is expensive for those of us who are used to spending $25 for dinner--was $85 without wine. Update: I was impressed that Ricardo emailed me after my bad experience (see previous review below.) Today, I returned to Ricardo's with a large group from my office. The experience was completely different than the last visit. While one person in my party had an issue with one of her items - the problem was resolved quickly. The service was exceptional and the food was quite amazing. I had the Bacon Salad which I highly recommend! Others ordered a variety of items from a burger to the daily special - everyone seemed happy with their choices.) Previous Review: Ricardo's is right across from my office and so it's a convenient place to meet colleagues for lunch. I've always been surprised more colleagues don't choose the restaurant, but I have heard complaints regarding the prices on the lunch menu. I personally don't mind paying more for high quality food. Today's visit paints a clearer picture of why the restaurant is fairly empty during the lunch hour - even with the large population in the area. While I had intended on getting a salad, my colleague and I decided to choose the daily special, Fish & Chips. The server promptly took our order and our food arrived within an acceptable amount of time. This ends the positive experience. While I started enjoying the very small side salad, my colleague made a face after taking a bite of the fried fish. She asked me if I thought it was fully cooked. I took a bite of my own and while the outside was crisp, the batter was mushy under the crisp edge. While I thought the fish was probably fully cooked - it just didn't taste right. Regretfully, I mentioned this to our server when she stopped by next to drop off our check. She asked if she could take the fish back to the chef to alert him and we told her not to make a big deal about it. She obviously took that statement to heart - the server never returned! Other than our few bites of the funky fish, we had a small salad and fries for lunch. She did return for my credit card and after I paid the bill (why did I tip her?!) she said she hoped we'd try them again sometime even though we didn't have a good experience today. She indicated that the chef said that it was the type of fish that was the issue. My colleague told me that she's cooked the same type of fish and never experienced this outcome. If they had truly wanted us to return, they might have considered reducing the price of our less than adequate lunch. Luckily, I had leftovers in the fridge at my office - since I was hungry 90 minutes later. read more

I've been a fan of Ricardo's since it opened at the original location in the little old house on Lacey Boulevard. It was know then for it's wonderful, intimate ambiance and exceptional seafood and pasta dishes. The new location is much larger and has a contemporary feel. The lounge is good sized, there's a lovely outdoor seating area, and an additional 'sports bar' space. Parking is a big improvement; the lot is paved and huge. The biggest change is the menu. Ricardo's is now a steak and prime meat palace. When you enter the restaurant you face a wall of glass behind which meat is aging- lots and lots of meat. It's a little unnerving for a vegetarian! Despite the switch to a meat-centric menu I still find delicious options and I love the place. Service is friendly and the staff makes an effort to give the best experience. With nice wine list, interesting, well-crafted cocktails, and a good Happy Hour menu, Ricardo's is a great choice for unwinding with friends after work. Dinner here is a classy affair. You're meant to relax and take your time making your selections. The staff is helpful with explaining the specials that Chef Ricardo creates, and helping with wine pairings. Salads- fresh! Soups- amazing! Try the Lobster Bisque. It's decadent, and filling enough for a meal. And you really need to save room for dessert! read more

Châteaubriand was outstanding! This was a huge chunk of meat, we ate and ate and ate on it and still had leftovers that fed us for two more meals. We also ordered a pork belly appetizer. That, on the other hand while it was good, wasn't what we expected. I won't order it again. It was more of a soupy roast combination. It had good flavor and all, just not my cup of tea. We ordered dessert because we were there for a celebratory occasion. Creme brûlée is our favorite, it was on the menu, so we couldn't resist. It was good, not disappointing. The only reason I'm not giving this review a five star is because of the rude hostess. She was not friendly or inviting. It was as if we were putting her out because we didn't have dinner reservations. She sat us in the bar area in the long shared table area, even though there were other tables not being occupied. The shared table was too narrow and small for the dinner choices we made. The dinner plates hung over the table and the dinner items were cramped--we are cramped. read more

We had reservations at 2:30 p.m. today, to celebrate Thanksgiving as well as my birthday. Everything, as expected, was flawlessly executed. We were kind of a difficult table but, as per the usual, they did not disappoint. I had asked for a corner table when I made my reservation. Done. I had asked that my daughter (who is 8) be served first because she is a slow eater and that her meal have extra grated parmesan on it. Done. I had asked that my 6-ounce filet be prepared rare, with a minimal amount of added oil and that, instead of roasted potatoes, it have a side of steamed bok choy (which was actually available as part of a different entree) with NO added oil or butter and that the *included* side of green beans also be steamed with NO added oil or butter. I also asked for no cream or demi. I am trying to dial in my macros. Done. Everything else was perfect too, from wine to dessert and the entrees and appetizers and desserts of the others at our table. When I eat out at Thanksgiving, I feel kind of bad... Almost like it is a public service for places to stay open and serve people like me who are not into cooking food nobody TRULY enjoys (because, honestly, if people TRULY enjoyed traditional Thanksgiving food wouldn't they eat it more than just once a year?) ----- But Ricardo's delivered. They had some Thanksgiving food options but other, less pedestrian, menu options as well and if they are open for Thanksgiving next year we will be back and, I suspect, others will too. There are a ton of people who don't want to cook turkey and would prefer to, instead, have tastier food that is expertly prepared and served to them. There are a ton of people who would prefer not to have itchy small talk with weird distant relatives. There are a ton of people who would prefer to not have prolonged exposure to dysfunctional family dynamics. There are a ton of people who would prefer to not wonder who, exactly, had prepared the mashed potatoes and whether or not it would give someone food poisoning to eat it. My husband and I went to Ricardo's for dinner with friends on Saturday night. He has been wanting to go for several months based on the ratings and his love of really great red meat. He had the ribeye as did our friends and I had the filet mignon, we also had drinks, the appetizers and dessert with coffee. Timing between each course was really long. The steaks were great! The appetizers (shrimp dogs and fried goat cheese) were also great! But the sides were room temperature on both of our plates. The cheese cake was grainy not creamy smooth so I was disappointed in it as was he and I didn't end up eating half of it, but our friends had creme brûlée and seemed to like it.
