I decided to try the Rice Bar today because my tastebuds were screaming for flavor. Like a party in your mouth flavor. So I ran across the Rice Bar on doordash, my current addiction. I looked at the yelp reviews and settled in for my adventure. I decided to design my own bowl. There is nothing like a rice bowl and a taco, Mexican food, my other addition. But anyway, I started with brown rice, soy sauce, bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, kale, and corn. For protein I added the Kalbi (Korean bbq rib) and the Bulgogi (Thinly sliced ribeye) and they topped it of with some spicy red sauce. LORD HAVE MERCY! Remember that party I wanted to have in my mouth, yes, yes, yes, it was a party of flavor and pure deliciousness. I am so excited about this lunch delivered by dashdoor. I need to take a ride to this place and see the magic happen for myself. FIRSTHAND! To close out this review, I would be just plain wrong not to say that every veggie in that bowl was seasoned. Create texture! The meat was outstanding. The spicy sauce was ah-mazing. And the portion size of each ingredient was just right. Nothing overpowered nothing. They just worked in harmony. Finally a good bibimbap place! Been scouring for a good healthy lunch spot in McPherson Square. Amid all of the bibimbap food trucks and the Korean cart, the Rice Bar is the BEST place to get your bibimbap fix. You can highly customize your order from purple rice to noodles to soup (you can also get a mix of rice/lettuce). The Tofu Bibimbap is my go to - I recommend adding the roasted seaweed and burduck root - they are both amazing!! I love the tofu marinated in teriyaki sauce - very flavorful. The peanut and teriyaki sauces are good. All of the veggies are cooked well and it's quite filling. It's a vegetarian's paradise! Don't worry, they have plenty of meat too! I will probably go back to Rice Bar and might change my opinion. This review is for my first visit. Whenever there is a restaurant option with an order sheet, I am all for it. It reduces the communication and language problems, not being able to hear at busy lunch time and having to point to toppings. Here you pick either the bibimbap or noodles sheet and mark everything from the base to the sauces. One caveat is, you don't know what they are out of. In my case, I got in the line thinking I would get beef bulgogi, only to find out at the end that they had run out. I got their chunk beef instead and found it to be quite chewy and nothing special. As far as I can remember, you only get three free toppings, and a few sauces, so not that many unless you pay extra. The base fare is pretty affordable, even with the protein, compared to the prices around. Next time I will try a noodle bowl. read more

We loved that they had color coded ordering sheets right at the entrance. Customers are to mark off their custom orders on the sheet prior to entering the line aka no pointing over the glass and no hold ups! I went for their rice bowl - half black rice, half lettuce with (4 complimentary sides) edamame, seaweed salad, broccoli, burdock roots, and (plus 2.89) spicy chicken in Korean hot sauce. My husband opted for their noodle bowl - udon with broccoli, roasted seaweed, edamame, bean sprouts, and (plus 2.89) bulgogi beef in miso broth. Our orders were assembled in no time. Portions (especially the rice bowl) were extremely generous. If I were a girl with normal appetite, I probably could have divided my bowl into two meals. Burdock roots - a must try - crunchy, sweet, yet salty. A nice balance to the nutty flavor of edamame and spice from the hot sauce/chicken. Black rice - I enjoyed the texture better than brown or white rice. Both were claimed to be extremely nutritional - Totally justified the fact that I polished the whole bowl. My husband loves all noodles. Udon happens to be one of of his favs! He ate every last bite from his bowl. The miso broth was well seasoned. The bulgogi beef had a hint of smokiness. The 4 veggie sides complimented his beef and noodle so well (the spices, flavors, and textures merged into one perfect bowl). The only downside of this place? It's a bit far from his office. I can't say enough about the deliciousness that this food establishment serves. Their broth is the absolute truth and I really need them to sell it in gallon jugs or something because they could make a killing. This is my second time trying this particular rice bar out and the first time I played it safe and got a chicken teriyaki rice bowl and it was good...you know tasted like chicken teriyaki with rice. This time, on the advice of my bestie sister (yes, that's a title), I ordered the ramen bowl with teriyaki chicken and miso broth. I literally saw heaven as I closed my eyes and took in all the flavors of this amazing bowl of noodle deliciousness. I could not get enough. It was a flavor party in my mouth and I can honestly say I don't think I've ever tasted broth this good!!! I am officially obsessed with this bowl and I may have to get my fix on a regular basis (Sorry other restaurants that used to get my money at lunch time). The only thing I will say can be improved is the soda machine. I don't remember the brand of soda but it's not your typical coke or Pepsi brands. That isn't a problem but they have an aspartame aftertaste which I don't like, not sure if they have aspartame in the ingredients but whatever the sweetener is, it definitely tastes like aspartame. I stopped in on a Wednesday around 5:30pm to grab a quick bite. There was one other table at the time while a few people were waiting for take out. It's definitely more of a take out place, as others have indicated, because there are only a few tables total. The process of ordering was not explained, but I was able to figure it out upon seeing the pencils and ordering cards. I opted for a signature noodle bowl-the spicy chicken noodle soup (bean sprout, carrot, cucumber, zucchini, eggplant, spicy chicken, egg). I was asked which type of noodle I wanted (I chose rice vs. udon or ramen). I was also asked if I wanted broth over it, which was weird because I ordered a soup. Anyways, I chose miso broth and I added spicy chili oil. Overall, my soup was delicious! I wanted it spicy and it delivered. If I needed additional spice, there were several accoutrements that could be added at the spice bar. There was an extremely generous portion of chicken which I appreciated. The portion overall of the soup was so large that I ended up only being able to eat about 75% of it. My only critique would be that the broth could be served warmer temperature-wise. This place catered a ramen night and a lunar new year dinner at my apartment. The two guys are very hardworking and were able to get us through the line quickly. The portions are also very large. The ramen had chicken, pork belly and tofu and really great toppings. The bamboo shoots tasted a little strange. ETC: - if you're coming during your lunch break, be prepared for long lines that usually pass by fairly quickly: 5-10 minutes. - there's a small number of seats inside & out. - you order on a piece of paper that you then head to the worker once you're through the line. They have a wide selection of things to put in your bowl, and they're very generous with their serving sizes as well. I'd compare this place to a Korean rice bowl Subway. I came here for lunch with a few work friends. I like that you have the option to do a rice bowl (bibimbap) or noodle base dish. The format is like many other restaurants in the area with the assembly belt system of ordering and customizing your meal. When you enter you can pick what you want on a customizable sheet (there is one for noodles and one for rice) and then just hand it to the employee who will make your dish. One thing I hate about any assembly line style places is that they tend to throw the food into the container without much care. Which was the case this time, which isn't the worst thing in the world but it's just a pet peeve of mine. I got black rice because I never tried it before and it was really good.The best part was their peanut sauce, it was fantastic! I would go back for the black rice and the peanut sauce alone. Everything else was pretty standard. This place is pretty fast in addition which is nice but it does get crowded in terms of seating so if you're looking to sit down and eat for lunch you might have a hard time finding a spot. I'm a big fan of Rice Bar, even moreso because every time I've walked by this location, it hasn't been crowded... Probably just lucky! I can't say how authentic everything is but it doesn't really seem to matter and the food is solid for casual dining. Like the other RB in DC, you walk in and choose your bibimbap by filling out a form: choice of a noodle/grain, protein like chicken or bulgogi, 4 veggies included, a sauce like teriyaki or soy sauce and broth. You then bring the form over to the servers and he/she creates all you noted. I like this approach so you can think about what you want without being put on the spot staring at a confusing menu. For those who get overwhelmed with the choices or don't know what to order, you can also get their suggested bowls. I liked the glass noodles with bulgogi, egg (yolk could have been a bit more runny), mushrooms, roasted seaweed, bamboo shoots and broccoli. It's a good portion to keep you filled and it feels fairly clean. There are a few tables in the joint but not a whole lot. It also seemed clean and comfortable, and the service was friendly. After that, you picked one protein and a sauce to go on top. I went with white rice, crispy onion, zucchini, fried egg and chicken topped with teriyaki sauce. If you feel intimidated by the idea of putting together your own bowl, there are tried and true options at the bottom of each menu (there's a separate menu for noodle dishes and rice-based dishes). I usually end up going for the classic bibimbop with Kimchi added. Don't forget to add Gochujang and sesame oil at the end for a spicy punch of flavor! Ugh. I love Rice Bar generally, but I just had a bad experience at this location today from start to finish. I filled out my order card completely, but still received questions at every stage of the process (why not just skip the cards at that point?). Somehow they still managed to put my order in separated to go containers instead of one bowl to stay and forget the kimchee for which they nonetheless charged me. The broth was lukewarm and made worse by the addition of cool chicken and an ice cold egg (the egg was still cold to the touch after 10 minutes in the broth). Just not good at all. I threw almost the entire bowl out. I'd be a little more forgiving if it were the middle of the lunch rush, but I was one of two people in the line. read more

4.5 stars Okay, I'll bite. I admit that I was a little skeptical of Rice Bar's 5 star reviews, but I can definitely endorse them. I haven't tried their noodle soups yet. My bibimbap was a bit oversauced, but it was piping hot and very tasty. You can choose four sides, and add proteins/premium toppings accordingly. I ordered the burdock root, roasted seaweed, mushrooms, and edamame before I realized that kimchi was missing. Where was it? Under the premium toppings. Doh! I'll have to try it next time. Note: When I asked about the kimchi specifically (because maybe they have multiple kinds?), the guy behind the counter said he made it, and although it wasn't as good as his mother's, it was still pretty good. That's a pretty ringing endorsement, so I'll definitely have to try it next time. There are four tops and the window/bar seating with stools, and a couple outside spots. Accoutrements include sriracha, sesame oil, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and chili oil. Service was quick (think Chipotle, but with filling out a handy order slip) and friendly, and they have a frequent visitor card (buy 10 get one free). Why not 5 stars? Well, there are already Korean places that do this, just not as well but they're at much lower price points (my bowl of bulgogi +egg came out to $12.24). I still winced at paying $1.75 extra for an egg, and I couldn't bear to pay to add Kimchi as a premium topping. read more

When I entered, she was on the phone and didn't acknowledge me at first. Rice Bar is very convenient to my office and I often find myself walking past and wondering "hmmm....should I spend my $15 for a bowl??!" Rice Bar has your standard make-your-own bibimbap/noodle bowls. Unfortunately, every protein is priced separately, which makes your costs add up quick! They also charge extra to add kimchi to your bowl, which is a necessary part of any meal from there. However, I do love all the choices of sauce at the end - yes always to sesame oil! Really one of the best places to get a bite in DC near McPherson. It's build your own bowl style with lots of options, healthy and all, with really delicious sauces. Usually crowded but lines move quickly. Leaves you feeling full, but not fat, and less vulnerable to the post lunch nap. Service is good. Ordered the Spicy Chicken bibimbap bowl with half black and half white rice. Lots of rice but a little skimpy on the add-ins. Seaweed salad was a little off and watery. Other toppings were just ok. Chicken was over cooked but spicy sauce helped. Way too much gochugang on top and would recommend ordering on the side.
