    Premium Chirashi Bento
    Christina C.

I finally tried Wafu's premium bento! It's so amazing! Impressive! I have seen them around on Instagram for a while. They are a showstopper, and they tasted as great as they look! Their premium bentos are made by Japanese Michelin chef, elegantly presented with premium fish from Japan and garnished with gold flakes. They are just another level of bento. Their fish was so fresh. I spotted uni (sea urchin), ikura (salmon roe), tai (red snapper), gindara (black cod), salmon tuna, crab, and squid in the Premium Chirashi Bento. They used all the great stuff along with lotus root, egg slices, sliced cucumber, shiso leaf, and shiso flowers. I loved everything inside the bento, and everything went so well together. Ikura is one of my favorites, and their ikura is specially marinated. It's so addicting that once you started eating the bento, you can't stop. I also had their Wagyu Uni Bento - WOW. Their wagyu was fatty and perfectly cooked twice and marinated in red wine sauce for 4 days. It's sweet, and the slices and size were perfect. Wagyu together with uni and ikura... I was in heaven! I would recommend enjoying their bento the same day for the freshest experience. (It won't taste the same overnight!) They offer multiple locations across LA/ SoCal for pickup. You pre-order their bento in advance via their website or Instagram DM. I picked up mine in West LA. They are very responsive in communication via Instagram DM. I love their bentos, and I will definitely order from them again! It's perfect for special occasions too.

The fish was incredibly fresh. I ordered a bento box for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, and he absolutely loved it. Pickup communication was super easy and smooth as well. Definitely a great experience!

I ordered two items from this place to celebrate my husband's birthday. They were very responsive via Instagram and placing/paying for the order was easy. I think you do have to over-communicate though -- I didn't receive any information on the day of on where to pick up the items. So that was a little confusing. There ended up being a mishap with their kitchen, so I could only pick up the Wagyu and Uni Box on the day of. They were very apologetic and kind with rescheduling for my second order though. Wagyu and Uni Box ($160) - I loved how the tamago was so finely shredded. It added such a nice touch to everything. This was a real treat! Tuna Festival ($120) - This box included an aged tuna. The tuna did have almost a sour flavor, not super bad, but it was not the usual tuna we were used to. It tasted like great quality. Definitely an acquired taste! Everything was so beautifully crafted and packed. Definitely a great place to order from if you're looking to celebrate an occasion or just treat yourself.

Out of all the fish in the sea, @wafubento.socal is definitely the one for me! As someone who's been looking for high quality, premium Japanese bento boxes, I was SOY impressed with Wafu Bento and the exquisite quality of their menu offerings, which are prepared by a master sushi chef using fish that is freshly flown in from Japan! I ordered their Premium Wagyu Uni Bento Box ($170) and Premium Bento Box ($190), and I was impressed with not only the beautiful presentation, but also the thoughtful packaging, delicate culinary preparation, and the freshness of all their Wagyu and seafood ingredients. Personally, I preferred the Wagyu box and would probably order the hokkaido special next time, just because of my personal preferences for the ingredients in the bentos. I ordered these via their IG/website, and the business was so communicative about the status of the order and delivery (you can also pickup if that's more convenient for you). Highly recommend checking them out if you're looking for premium, authentic Japanese bento boxes of the utmost quality! Featured here: premium wagyu uni bento box premium bento bo

All I have to say is WOW! Amazing selection of fish (and wagyu) in our bento boxes. We ordered the Kyoto Style Temari Sushi and The Tuna Festival. The tuna was so fresh and our sushi was incredible. We will definitely be ordering again!

    Wagyu Uni box

100/10 - would (and will) order again! The Wagyu uni was incredibly decadent, and better than the ones I have at pricier omakases. The premium chirashi was beautiful and had wonderful visuals and textures. The best take out!

Wow, this place is so delicious and worth every penny. The presentation and the taste blew my mind away. I been waiting to try this and I'm so glad to say it was worth the wait. The freshest fish and the amount you get it is worth the price tag. Seeing this again makes me want to order another one ASAP. The service was friendly by the DM you go through on IG and the way he lets you know he is on the way makes it pleasant and worth it. The person is so friendly and generous with the food there. I am so glad I got to experience this. Highly recommend!

Aburi Benti (no shrimp oboro, substitute Hokkaido scallops)

These bentos were AMAZING! First of, ordering was very simple. I ordered through IG direct messaging. The person assisting me was helpful since it was my first time ordering. They even added I can customize my bento if I wanted to. I'll consider it next time I order. They text you as well and they are quick to respond. I ordered the Premium Bento and Aburi Bento. I asked to remove the shrimp oboro and substitute with Hokkaido scallops on the Aburi Bento and they did it with no extra cost. You can taste the quality of the fish. The uni is so sweet and made me craving for more!! The tamago strips under the bed of fish was a nice touch. The bentos were beautifully presented. The pick up was quick and easy. They texted me the approx time the driver was going to arrive at this pick up spot. The man dropping off my bentos was very nice. I'll definitely be ordering again :)

    Original Chirashi Bento
    Jessica P.

I recently ordered the Original Chirashi Bento from Wafu, and the entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. We preordered the night before, and I appreciated how smooth and efficient the process was. We received a text message confirmation immediately, which gave us peace of mind about our order. When we picked it up the next day at noon, everything was ready right on time. The bento itself was absolutely worth the $70. The presentation was stunning, and the freshness and quality of the fish were top-notch. Each bite was delicious, with a perfect balance of textures and flavors. The variety in the chirashi bento made it feel special, and you could tell that a lot of care went into preparing every detail. If you're looking for a premium sushi experience that's convenient and beautifully done, Wafu is the place to go. I will definitely be ordering again if I'm ever in the area. Also a great place to pick up lunch then head to the beach to eat it!

On top of that the menu changes every couple of months, which for me is nice because every time I come here I experience something a little different. Do keep in mind this particular location I've been here enough now that I notice some patterns. there's going to be a seasonal fish that is featured. There's also going to be some kind of stuffed mushroom which I like because I like mushrooms. They always have scallops which are always cooked to perfection. I often order that added on to the entree. There will be at least one steak dish and a chicken and a pork dish. they always feature on the appetizers the lump crab cake. it is what it sounds like, a large lump of crab that is breaded. To me it's not a true crab cake but rather a lump of fresh crab that's breaded and fried. It's ok if you're in to that. The one dish I was curious enough to try today was their Kona crusted lamb loin. I don't usually order lamb unless it's an Indian or middle eastern restaurant. I like lamb but it's not exactly something I crave. so how they explained it was that the Kona was basically using coffee grounds as a dry rub on the meat. So I got curious and ordered it. The grounds basically add a slightly different texture and adds a slight bitterness. Sort of like char from a grill. It was ok and interesting but what stood out the most was the fact that the meat was so perfectly cooked and so flavorful and tender that it overpowered whatever the grounds added to the meat. so I would recommend this solely on the basis of how perfectly tender and flavorful the meat was.

I walked up to the hostess podium and I was ignored. Then I said that I was checking in for 5:30p reservations and the hostess said " that's gonna be much later than. I'll probably get your party in closer to 6:30p." Obviously I was upset by this response since we drove over an hour to this restaurant for the sole purpose of a celebration of life. If reservations were going to be ignored then I would not have bothered making them in a timely matter as I was instructed to do by the organizer of the evening. I basically got the brush off like there was nothing they could do since people were not leaving (including walk-ins) after a 90 min dining limit was posted outside. I was very peeved about this response and said clearly that is not my problem yet I am being penalized. My first encounter with the hostess carried throughout my visit. Our servers name was Linda and she took our drink order as soon as we were seated, however it did seem to take a while for our drinks to arrive. Apologies were made again for the wait but at this point it was clear there was gonna be an issue throughout the meal. I ordered a Caprese salad with brussels sprouts to share family style .When my salad arrived there was no basil. It was just mozzarella and tomatoes, balsamic and olive oil with a dried herb sprinkled on top. When I asked my server if this is how the Caprese is served she said yes. I never had a Caprese with no leaves of basil. Needless to say it's not what I wanted nor expected. My sprouts were dry and overcooked. Linda was truly trying to be accommodating. I could tell she is working very hard to satisfy our group despite the fact the restaurant was packed. Linda was great. We decided to share key lime pie and the warm butter cake w/ ice cream and raspberry sauce. The key lime pie was fine. The warm butter cake was a bit different as it had a hard sugar top. Ice cream with raspberry sauce on the side as well as below. It was too much sauce for my taste. More like a jelly doughnut. My blueberry pomegranate margarita was the best part of my meal. There were so many things that may seem small but were enhanced because I was already upset. The fact the restaurant overly committed and couldn't handle the amount of people was a real issue.

I enjoyed a classic dirty martini, their specialty vaca tonic (A+ cocktail), and had their non-alcoholic drink called Starry Night (very delicious, but not worth $16). The setting is quite breath-taking, with the restaurant decorated with elaborate cuts of meat and wine bottles. The lighting is very warm-toned and elegant. Our food also came out fairly quickly, which I appreciated. I started with the Vaca Tonic which was delicious. For food, the standout was the La Bola -- a crispy potato ball with flavorful ground meat inside. I'd come back just for that. The scallops, however, were just okay. They were very small for "sea" or "diver" scallops, and the menu didn't specify what kind they were. The sauce was fine but nothing memorable. I was most excited for the wagyu oyster cut steak and ordered it medium, but it arrived more rare than expected and was surprisingly chewy rather than tender. Overall, the experience didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I love tapas, but this spot fell short.
