I've only lived in Chicago for a little over a month, and this place has already become an instant favorite. The place is clean, and service is really good. In fact, they went above and beyond for me the first time I came in for dinner. Their Thursday special was their Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice, and since it was a Friday, I decided to take my chances to ask if that particular special was available. This place is a hidden gem. BYOB with a unique Korean / American brunch menu ends up being a fun combo for those hungover mornings when you just want some eggs but also want bulgogi. Both the Dandak and Buldak are really good. Good quality chicken with vibrant sauces. The rice on the side is good too. Wasn't a huge fan of their version of slaw. Also, got the crispy Manson which was really good- like a potsticker. read more

A solid place that I really wanted to like more.  I liked the service.  Our waitress was super friendly/accommodating.  I liked the simplicity & cleanliness of the diner.  But the food was just ok, except for the seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was tasty with a good amount of seafood (mostly squid + shrimp) especially for the price of $7.95.  This pancake is different from most other places in that there is less batter used, and a lot more thick-green onion.  It feels less "heavy" to eat.  I would definitely come back to order this. The squid bibimbop had an excess of gochujang (red chili paste).  It was overwhelming to eat.  There were good amounts of squid that had some nice chew to them, and so I picked all of those out to eat.  The dish came in a stone bowl, and I managed to catch a few tasty flecks of crispy rice here and there, but I couldn't eat much of the rice because it was drowning in sauce.  (But maybe it was a good thing since I did fill up on the seafood pancake.) My friend ordered the galbi (but I forget which one).  That dish was also excessively sauced/salty.  The flavor of both entrees were spot-on, but personally too heavy for me. read more

No other place gives you the quality and portion of food for the money you spend at Rice'N Bread! My experience at Rice'N Bread was absolutely phenomenal! The restaurant had a relaxing and casual aura of coziness about it. The friendly staff was extremely informative and patient with any questions we had about the menu. Also, the cute, colorful chalkboard menu gave me a nice sense of comfort. Though the restaurant space is on the smaller end, I wouldn't be surprised if they need to expand to accommodate for all the new customers who find out about this place! Our party decided to order several different items on the menu and share them. We ended up ordered the following items: 1. Galbi Burger - This burger was simply amazing! Thinking about this authentic burger now makes me salivate. I would highly suggest getting the caramelized kimchi(+ $1 extra), as it adds a very nice flavor to the burger. On top of it all, it's all served on a delicious pretzel bun. 2. Buldak - (Korean style fried chicken in a spicy chilli pepper sauce) - Ehrmergerd!!! this is probably the BEST, TASTIEST spicy chicken I've ever had! I contemplated taking a picture of this dish, but once I popped the first piece of chicken in my mouth, the fun just wouldn't stop and there was nothing left to take a picture of! For those of you who are not good with spicy food, this dish has quite the fiery kick. This dish is unbelievably tasty and the chicken simply melts in your mouth after you bite through the crispy layer. 3. Crispy Tofu - This appetizer is perfect for any vegan out there! I'm no vegan but I still found this dish to be so savory. WARNING - be careful biting into this delicious cube of heaven because it may be very hot. Don't let the supple, yet crispy outer layer deceive of the temperature inside. However, once you bite into the crispy layer, the tofu inside just melts in your mouth. 4. Pa-Jeon (Korean style seafood pancake) - For $7.95, this is quite a good bang for the buck. Every Korean restaurant I've been to charges ATLEAST $12+... If you've never had this before, you need to try it. If you try it here for the first time, you may never want to get it anywhere else because they will make you overpay for it. 5. Mushroom Omellette - If you're looking for a nice vegetarian omelette, this omelette will do the trick. It also comes with a nice side of hash browns and english muffins. It took the liberty of creating my own breakfast sandwich out of them; using the english muffins as buns for the omelette and hash browns. 6. YetCaMein Noodles - After we ordered some of these, we realized that everyone at the table next to us had one in front of them. We figured it had to be decent so we were excited to give it a try. We ordered the chicken and it was VERY delicious. The noodles were cooked to perfection: not too soggy nor too crispy. The broth comes with a sprinkle of chopped green onions and has a nice spicy kick to it, while being extremely flavorful! Last but not least, it's BYOB! There's a liquor store right next door, so you can grab your favorite alcoholic beverages and enjoy your meal with some spirits! Second time coming here, decided to dine in this time. The lady working cashier and serving was so nice and attentive to whatever we asked. I got the spicy chicken bulgogi and it was amazeballs. It came out on one of those hot plates where it kept cooking. It was piping hot and the perfect amount of spice. They also had kimchi on the side, which was also fresh and tasted great. He got the Kalbi burger and he was raving about it. Definitely get it with the fried kimchi and to add a fried egg. I didn't really like the flavor of the meat though. I just got eggs and potatoes (regular diner food). The staff was really friendly. If we had not been eating all day before we had gotten here, I probably would have order something more substantial. Got carry out from here because I was in the area and craving Korean! Super quick pick up which I appreciate and there's pay for park right out front. I got some egg rolls that were incredible! Hot and crunchy and perfect. I got the spin on tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) that was very spicy but not as flavorful as I'm used to. The salad/slaw in there was delicious and there was plenty of fish cake strips as well. It was tasty but not my favorite! I also got a Bibimbap with bulgogi that was really tasty but the amount of protein to rice and veggies was really off. There was about one solid spoonful of bulgogi which was disappointing. Overall the food was definitely tasty with just a few small things short of perfection. I came here for a nice little dinner with my girlfriend. She is a huge fan of Korean food, and I grew up around Korean food all my life. This place is close to where I live, so I gave it a try and it didn't disappoint. We started out with dukbokki and kimchi. The kimchi is spot on. The dukbokki is good too, but be warned - it is very spicy. I then had bibimkuksu and my girlfriend had bibimbap. The bibimkuksu was very vegetable heavy to the point that it felt more like a salad than a noodle dish, but the flavor was there. I tried a few spoonfuls of the bibimbap and it was great. Service was great too, the food came quick and the waitress was attentive to keep filling our waters as we needed it. Overall, really nothing to fault. Glad this place is here so I can come back to my roots every once in a while. Also looking forward to trying out the more adventurous menu items they have. read more

Happened upon Rice'N Bread when looking for a dining spot before seeing a show on Belmont. The dining room is unpretentious, but has plenty of seating. Lots of fun photos on the walls. The wait staff has been kind, efficient and helpful when asking about menu items. My experience has been "no substitutions", but other than that, all the items I have ordered have been absolutely delicious. You can adjust the "fire" of any of the Korean dishes, which are presented well and portions are generous. My only "criticism" is that, as a vegetarian, I would like a bit of flexibility in exchanging meats for plant-based items that are already available on the menu, such as tofu. Jap chae!!! My coworker loves this place and every so often I'll order with her. It's good! A bit pricey but sometimes you just want Korean and this place knows how to do it. My favorites are the jap chae, bulgogi or the spicy ramen. Their servings are very large too. So usually I have enough for a whole 2nd meal. They deliver, but it takes forever!! Also make sure they deliver everything you ordered. Once we were missing a couple soups. Once we realized it, it took another like 30min+ for them to return with the rest of the order. read more

Have tried sundubu jjigae - spicy, soft tofu stew - in every Korean restaurant (in Chicago). Their sundubu jjigae is the best in the city! I get it weekly. It's consistent, has a deep, layered flavor and always arrives steaming hot, even when the doordash driver is taking his sweet time. read more

Honestly disappointed. I was super excited to try this place after seeing all the reviews but it was a letdown. The bibimbop and the beef over rice dishes lacked flavor and had very little meat. it was alllllll rice! The amount of meat was only enough for about 3-4 spoonfuls. This is not okay and unusual for a korean dish, which are loaded with flavors and ingredients. The pajeon (seafood pancake) was delicious, however, the mix was not cooked together well, as it was more of a stir fry than a "pancake". Overall, disappointing if you love and grew up with authentic korean food. On the bright side, the workers were kind and happy. read more

So I was brought here by a friend, tried all the recommended food and really loved everything I ate! This was a fantastic experience with a Korean restaurant, not like any other Korean restaurants that I'm used to. They invented their own burger that combined both American and Korean flavors! I ate it all although I was completely full at that time. If you want some spicy and crispy things, you will be satisfied with Bul Dak. If you desire some sweet and crispy things, I would recommend Dan Dak. These are definitely amazing and addictive. The service is also great and the owner is so kind and nice. This is my favorite place for food. The meals are always worth the price, the flavors are great and the Bul Dak is my favorite chicken in Chicago. It's a BYOB joint as well which is great for when in Wriggleyville. Everyone who works there is great, they are good people. I also love their off menu items like the bulgogi bowl or kimchi bacon fried rice. It's a restaurant with a mix of American breakfast foods and Korean dishes, it's style is a regular diner. They have made a restaurant that feels like the future as there is no "exotic Korean" style, it's just normal food at your normal diner. Isn't that we all want out of a diner?
