I had the sundubu here, which is the big stone pot of soft tofu soup that comes out BOILING hot. One of the best remedies for a cold. Flavors were spot on and the ability to customize your protein of choice is a plus. Also had the rice bowl with the beef and that was good too. Good flavors, good sauce, and a good price. I would definitely come here again. I'm going to reserve the last star for when I try the burger here. Tofu bibimbap is great, I've had it a couple times from here and it was delish. Good flavor even if you choose not to add the spicy sauce. I Really love their egg rolls! Not sure what it is about them, but they have a different flavor than what I'm used to from an egg roll and they are super tasty. I'm very curious about the "American" items on the menu, but there's plenty of places to get those sort of things in the area, so I've never tried them. The place itself isn't anything fancy--you certainly wouldn't choose it for the ambiance. I ordered takeout online from them for the first time and there was some confusion about when my order was ready (I showed up at the time I'd picked online, was told they needed 20 minutes because they'd gotten busy, then got a call 2 minutes later saying it was ready), and my food was not quite right (white rice instead of brown, no extra soy sauce as requested). We went to eat spicy korean food restaurant. My younger friend recommended this restaurant eating spicy food near by Chitown. We had bul-dak(fire chicken),spicy dongalbi (beef rib with spicy sauce), squid bibimbab (squid mixed rice with spicy sauce in hot rock bowl) and a milk. That atmosphere was small but not noisy, and comfortable. I could imagine Bun-sik-zip which is street food restaurant in korea. But they were selling common korean meal and some american food. The owner is so kind and funny. I am so appreciate to know this place! Let me explain these menu, The owner gave us service fried dumpling! small and crispy with little spicy sauce. That's awesome He gave us this dumpling and milkis (korean soda) The dongalbi was not spicy for me, however, I liked this menu because hot rock plate keep it warm during eating. Bul-dak was ,onestly, not much spicy than I expected. It was little sour than dongalbi. But I was so glad to see korean style salad with yogurt sauce. And Squid bibimbab was good! Super casual, mom & pop run establishment. So casual that when my water glass needed refilling, I just walked up to the counter and the gent just refilled my glass while he was still tending to another customer. And no one batted an eye, no one thought the act was out of line. Kind of like what I'd do at a friend or family member's home, just go up and get what I need. The space looks like a diner, but their Korean menu caught our eye. My friend and I brought our little guys here and while they split a bacon cheeseburger and fries, we each had the bibimbop. Marinated beef, fresh veggies, topped with an egg over hot rice--a perfect dinner, filling and flavorful. There was a little bit of a language barrier with our server, but things got sorted out. Service is a little on the slow side, but she was just the sweetest and checked back with us--especially to check on the kids. The digs should get a million stars because Ronnie Woo Woo came in for dinner with a friend. He was gracious to take some time to talk to us and our sons. Korean soul food. Yes, they have typical American diner options, but the is all about the Korean dishes. I've gotten the soondubu jigae the past 3-4 times I've been. The dolsot bibimbap is excellent. Try the fried tofu appetizer as well. I also would recommend the Bul Dak which is the pieces of spicy fried chicken. I'm picky about chicken texture, but they do it right! I love the place. The owner and chef is very friendly and has asked us about our experience of the food multiple times. There is one wait staff (Jeab) who is the sweetest person. This place is a gem. read more

My friends and I were in town for pride weekend and wanted something different. This place was absolutely amazing. Our waitress was the sweetest, inviting us back to eat again with a humble sincerity. We all ordered bibimbop and it was to die for. Best BipnBop on the North side. The stone bowl sizzled as the waitress set it in front of me. The crispy rice at the bottom of the bowl is my favorite. Wonderful little spot near Wrigley Field. Had to kill time before a wedding and decided to get some Korean food. This place is covered in pictures of other guests, the host is so warm and welcoming, and THE FOOD. I got the beef bulgogi (I know, not very adventurous) and it was amazing and very filling. Outside of a fertility clinic, this place does the most amazing things with eggs! Seriously...whether you yolk up your Bimimbop, top your Galbi Burger, or just go al natural and order them any style with a side of sausage, this place shells out some very serious embryos. It's a little neighborhood diner with a good selection of Korean classics to choose from. It's excellent if you're with a picky eater. They can stick to the basics while you venture into the likes of Bulgogi, BiBimKukSu, and whole bunch of other stuff that's difficult to pronounce, but tasty to put in your mouth. It's super cheap, BYO, and has super friendly service so overall it's pretty tough to find a reason not to love it. read more

Hey, now! I stopped in after reading a recent ROTD for Rice'N Bread. Without that review, I would've continued thinking that this place was a dive joint that serves low-grade burgers or something. Totally and completely incorrect. They serve some damn straight Korean dishes. My maiden voyage selection was Dandak. Stir-fried chicken covered lightly with a spicy glaze. Rice and veggies come along for the ride. Out standing. It's sorta like General Tso's chicken without all of the breading. (If the general's rank were based on his chicken recipe, he'd be a captain at best.) Gotta tell you that I could've done without the veggies. All were remarkably flavorless, although they looked pretty. Service at lunch time was super casual and this is NOT a date spot-- don't expect a fawning waiter or, possibly ANY waiter after getting your food. But that was just fine with me. I was too busy watching Ellen on the TV. I love their hours, too. I'm the kind of guy who often likes to have a lunch meal around 10 in the morning. I ordered food from this place on a Sunday morning for my family. After waiting for 1.5 hours I decided to call and check on my food. Upon calling I was told that I was out of their service area and that the food would not be delivered. The order was placed through grub hub and I understand mistakes happen however a simple phone call would have been nice to let me know my food wasn't coming. The woman was also incredibly rude. I wanted to try this place for a while now, and so glad I did! Met a friend here for brunch on Sunday and was seated right away. I got the spicy chicken (buldak) with rice, and he got the kalbi burger which came with fries. The spicy chicken with rice was crunchy, flavorful and not too heavy. Portions are also pretty big, so I ended up boxing up half my meal to bring home. If you prefer milder chicken, I believe there is a non-spicy alternative, or I would just ask them to make it mild. We went to Rice' N Bread for Burger Binge week. They offered a galbi burger for $5 no fries with it but that's okay. Along with the galbi burger we had their BulDak and Dol Sot bibimingbop. Everything taste good not great. The service was a bit slow and we were told it was going to be slow after we ordered our food. I didn't really love that but we sat and waited for our food anyways. I would go back just because the food wasn't memorable for me. I would recommend for people to try it because it is a different style for Asian food establishment. Rice N Bread has outstanding Korean food! Everything tasted fresh and was spiced to perfection. The service was great too- friendly and very quick! I had the Bimimbop while my boyfriend had the Bulgagi (thanks to fellow Yelpers recommendations). Both were so tasty! Perfect on a cold night. And on top of the food being delicious, it's BYOB so definitely take advantage of that and pick up a bottle of wine on your way over. Definitely recommend! read more

This review is for their delivery service only, I've never actually had the opportunity to dine in. I always order the spicy dongalbi and bulgogi chicken and they are absolutely divine. However, their onion pancakes are very messy and unappetizing. I ordered it once and disliked it and decided to give it a second chance but I was disappointed once again. I ordered via grubhub delivery. Initially said would arrive in 30 minutes - which got changed to 45-55 minutes. It arrived closer to 45. Really wanted to like the Dan Dak more but the sauce coated chicken was kinda goopy. Flavors were there but I prefer Crisp. I also got the galbi burger which tasted great but the accompanying fries were kinda bland and cold. I would be interested in going in to try more items but probably won't do delivery again. read more

The servings were generous, a filling meal, and maybe some leftovers for a snackThe spicy chicken doesn't taste as fried and battered as most fried dishes at Chinese places. It's not fast food, more of an easygoing, hangout, taking-your-time kind of place. We walked in and got a "hey" from the guy behind the counter like we were friends. Came upon this place because I was really craving Ramen or some sort of noodle soup and I wanted to go someplace near me. Did a quick yelp search and found myself here and what a great find it was! I loved everything about this place. The decor is so warm, friendly, clean, and filled with inviting smells of delicious food. Immediately I wanted to sit down and order, and the food is what this place really delivers. We ordered the Seafood Pajeon, Yat Ca Mein and Buldak chicken, and all of them were yummy and satisfied my tummy. ;) The Pajeon had plenty of tender pieces of squid, shrimp and fresh veggies all fried to perfect crispiness and it came with a slightly spicy soy dipping dipping sauce. Yat Ca Mein was great. They simmer their special house broth there for 24 hours and I can definitely taste the wonderfulness of that. Noodles were nice chewy texture and pork belly pieces had just enough crispy skin and fat, which i loved. Garnished with hard boiled eggs and green onions, all flavors mixed perfectly well. Buldak was also very good. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. The sauce is very unique, nothing I've had before and it was pretty spicy. It was solid. Service was great too. No complaints there. My only thing was that I wished their Wi-fi worked that day, but that's never going to stop me from going back again and again. Came here with a friend who had heard good things, and I must say that for the most part she heard right. It's a fun, brightly-lit diner vibe, with a mixture of Korean and breakfasty foods. The price is very right, especially considering that it's BYOB. We started with the seafood Pa-Jeon, and it was perfectly well cooked. I chose the tofu Bibimbop for my entree, and it really hit the spot. My friend really enjoyed the Buldak, which was very spicy in the best way, and I was somewhat jealous that she ordered better than I did. However, I would note that she got the platter with rice and veggies, but this really didn't add much to the dish - it was simply a ball of white rice and some steamed carrots and broccoli. I'm not one to tell you not to eat your veggies, but maybe order a side of kimchi instead? The one mild ding was that our server (an older Korean man, maybe also the owner?) was not very responsive - we were there on a Thursday and the place only had three tables of customers, but we repeatedly had to ask for glasses for our adult beverages and when it was time to get our check he was gone for a long time. Maybe this is a fluke and the regular server was off that night, but just a little bit more attentiveness would go a long way to justifying the 4.5 stars that other reviewers have averaged. Regardless, at 4 or 4.5 stars, this is an excellent choice if you find yourself in the neighborhood. read more

A great neighborhood joint! It's small and clean. Their menu contains Korean and American options. I love their bibimbap with tofu. The bf lives by their Kalbi burger and a chicken rice soup they have. Their Yet Ca Mein has a very nice broth which is heavy on the pork flavor (warning to vegetarians who don't mind mind having their foods tainted with meat but hate the taste of meat....yes this category of folks do exist. It's called a compromise to coexist with omnivores). We've always found this place to offer very comforting food. I have to admit we haven't tried their more American options but truth be told, why break away from choices that have always worked for us? Now that would just be silly. My Christmas wish, should anyone from Rice and Bread read this, is to extend your weekend hours for my post-drinking binge. read more

Did Rice'N Bread for takeout Saturday night. Exceptional. Tried the egg foo young, the spicy bulgogi pork, the bibimbop and the dundak fried chicken. Also did the dduk-bok-ki appetizer. This place blew me away...all of these things were large, tasty, spicy when they needed to be spicy, full of flavor, hearty. The bibimbop was maybe not amazing, I wouldn't order that one again...but that's just to make room for the other four dishes. Wow, and you usually expect delivery to take a while, or for the food to not be piping hot on arrival...even on a Saturday around 7 PM, it showed up in 30 minutes at a friend's house in Wrigglyville blazing hot. I live in WashDC now, but eat at Rice 'n Bread when I come back for the summer and the end-of-year holidays. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat before or after a Cubs game. My nephew and I ate here the night the Cubs won their first World Series game at Wrigley Field in 2016, so it's a lucky place too!!! Love their bacon and kimchee fried rice, the Korean chicken and rice, and the Akutagawa. And the service is always friendly and accommodating. This last dish was named after one of the restaurant's customers from the 1960s, who used to order this special combination of scrambled eggs, ground hamburger, onions, and bean sprouts with rice -- gravy and soy sauce optional -- for breakfast every morning. My Dad used to own the restaurant back in the days when it was known as the Hamburger King. We were of Japanese-American descent, so you could order everything with rice! When I visited I nagged my gf and friend that I wanted to try this place out. I usually have a distrust for Asian fusion foods, but when you add breakfast components, I just find it hard to resist drooling. I got the kalbi burger with fried kimchi. Now, as one who grew up on korean food, I will suggest the owners (or at the very least you guys) to add fried egg to it. Kimchi has an acidity to it, so adding an egg over medium adds this richness to it. I find it perfectly balances out the flavors of the burger. (But be warned it gets incredibly messy) As far as the kalbi goes, I kind of wish the marinade was better, but if I were to live in the area, I think I would still come and get my fatboy on here from time to time read more
