We found this brunch restaurant by accident. We found a more affordable parking structure ($15 a day) on Prospect Street and as we exited the elevator, we saw Richard Walker on our way out to the village so we were like "OK let's try it!" Food turned out to be delicious! My Cherry Waffle was crunchy. I asked for the cherry topping on the side so it won't sog it up. I also needed some protein because I was gearing up for some walking around the Cove. So I just got a side of sausage patties. I was surprised at how good they were. The top was also crispy which is a plus. The Santa Fe Omelette was super filling, thick, flavorful, and overall delicious. BF said it might be one of the best omelettes he's ever had. Although this place is an institution in La Jolla, their staff is currently subpar and ruining the experience. Richard Walker's is known for gourmet breakfast cuisine near the water in beautiful La Jolla, but the staff dropped the ball numerous times and it was more reminiscent of an IHOP service experience. First, when I walked in, a blonde female server tried to take me to a packed side of the restaurant, which I later determined was her station. The way I realized that this must have been her station is due to the fact that when I requested a little more privacy on the other side of the restaurant, she very rudely shoved the menu in my face and pouted as she walked away. This is not a good demonstration of teamwork, nor was it becoming of a server in a restaurant of this caliber. I proceeded to select a table on the other side of the restaurant with fewer patrons. Although our server Jose was moderately busy, he only took our order, then took our money without checking in on us at all during the meal. This was odd, because this side of the restaurant was nowhere near as busy as the other side. In fact, I had to flag down one of the other servers to bring me a small container. However, she proceeded to drop the top of the container onto the floor, but then in a very bizarre display of uncleanliness, she picked the top of the container off of the floor and put it on the table without replacing it! She actually expected me to still use it despite the fact that she dropped it on the dirty floor!! Nevertheless, the Mediterranean Omlette was delicious, but the service here is absolutely horrible at the moment. There are plenty of Gen Z recent College grads, who cannot find a job due to A.I., who would be more than happy to work here. It's time for Richard and his son to start advertising in the right places for better employees... On a bright note, Ryan was indeed helpful in shoring up the incompetencies and inadequacies of the remainder of the staff. He helped get basic things like napkins and place settings when we needed them. Ryan should train these future servers that will be new hires, because he did an excellent job. Overall, this is an iconic place in La Jolla that has unfortunately gone downhill in terms of its service over the years. I genuinely hope Richard & his son can turn it around, so locals can continue to enjoy this place for years to come. read more

The food was delicious!!! We got there and there was a line but it was going fast they were sitting parties as tables became available we waited for about 5-10 minutes. When we sat the waitress was super nice took our order and another server was already bringing water. When we were finished we asked for to go boxes she brought the boxes and gave us extra butter and syrup to go. The food was so good my son finished his waffle the burrata toast was delicious. Went in on a Monday morning and was seated quickly. They have a nice inside section but also an outside seating option. I was given water and coffee right away and given time to decide in an order. Phenomenal place for breakfast, but be prepared for a large portions! The presentation and amount of food that you get is great considering the price point. The quality and their ingredients shows. It was great to see our favorite server, Liam, again -- he's always so friendly and attentive -- but we found out he's heading off to college. Second time we have tried Walker's Pancake house. The service is very pleasant and steady. We had no wait at 9:30 am on a Sunday morning for a table for five. The front doors were left open, so it was very cool in the front of the restaurant. It was a foggy wet morning at the ocean. Our food when served was not really hot, just warm and it got cold quickly. The pancakes were just ok. I have had much better at Harry's Coffee Shop in La Jolla. The eggs were cooked right, but the hashbrowns were bland. Thank goodness we asked for their house made salsa, it was excellent and improved everything we put it on. Parking can be tough but a short walk in La Jolla is always nice. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and we got seated right away. It has a very homey traditional brunch spot ambiance inside. Service was great but the food was OK. We also ordered a ham and cheese omelette which was good as well. Be aware they don't have specialty coffee drinks, just regular coffee. The pricing was very odd to us. For example, a coke was $5.50. A single side egg was $4.50, but two eggs were $5.50 and three eggs were $6.50. Although things were good, we probably would not return as it had a very generic, chain-like vibe. My family are regulars here, & I joined them today for the first time in a while. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros & the Turkey Patty Bennie. Truthfully, the huevos rancheros were not our favorite. They were pretty spicy, & the tortilla was soggy. However, the Turkey Bennie were great, w the egg cooked to perfection. The food is usually pretty good. I am in here about once a month. It looks like they went through staff changes in the recent past. I feel the old staff was a bit more responsive. I use to love the coffee and took bags of it home with me. The last few times the coffee has not been at the same level as in the past. It still is a great location and the food is still good. I am always there on a Thursday or Friday and there never is a wait. I plan on continuing to have breakfast there. read more
