I don't take my bike anywhere else! Seriously. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and will volunteer tips and information about your bike without having to be asked. I ride a lot but I don't know much about bikes technically; however, what I do know I have learned here. If you are looking for a particular part or an entire bike, Richard and his staff will give you the best options tailored to your needs without trying to sell you anything. I bought a road bike that I crashed while shifting because the drivetrain was not installed correctly. Not only did Richard replace the broken rear derailleur, but he saw the cause of the crash and went through to readjust almost the entire bike (once again, without needing to be asked). It rode SO much better after that, and I never would have known about all of the little nuances that were overlooked when the bike was originally put together. Richard's expertise is guaranteed to either get you the best bike for your needs, or fix your current bike up to its best riding condition. Richard is a wealth of expertise and experience. We can to him for help modifying a rare tandem recumbent bike with an electric motor. It's a heavy bike so the Standard electric motor wouldn't work on it. Richard expertly solved every challenge and installed the system with great care and attention to detail. I called in to ask questions about BMX bikes and costs for assembly. The person answered was very rude and stated "that's some random question and I cannot answer that question". Well if you don't know then ask someone!!! This guy obviously did not care and just wanted to get off the phone. What a bad business practice and treating new customers. I just bought my first beach cruiser from Richard's and it was a great experience overall. I am not sure whether the gentleman that was helping us was Richard or not but either way they were great! They helped me choose the type of bike I wanted, giving me the pros and cons of each. Then let me test ride the two I was debating on. Anything can be ordered so he wanted me to be less concerned with the bikes colors that were on the floor and more concerned with the ride and comfort. Came in on a Thursday and my new bike, with all of the accessories I picked out for it (basket, bell & cup holder) were ready to be picked up the following Wednesday. These guys couldn't be nicer and more honest. Took my cruiser in for service: clicking noise and a few minor adjustments. I'm not a bike expert so they could have took advantage of me and charged me for service-but instead explained clicking noise was part of gear mechanism -nothing wrong and proceeded to made my adjustments for free. Spoke to the owner on the phone on the phone, no customer service skills, telling me my bike didn't exist when I have the receipt from the dealer to prove its value and authenticity. Owner needs to brush up on his bike knowledge. To top it off he hung up on me! Rude.! read more

I had some issues with my back tire going flat and it always takes me forever to change tires. Today I decided it's time to go to an expert and I found Richard's here on Yelp. It's close to were I live so I gave it a try. Went to the store with my wheel in my hand and Richard was very friendly and helpful right when I came in the door. He fixed the issues with my tire in no time and also gave me a lot of helpful info on how to avoid issues like this in the future. In the end it only cost me $8 to get my tire and wheel fixed - saved me a lot of sweat and tears! I'll definitely come back here for any bike needs I'll have in the future. 5 Stars from me for the great customer service and the fun and educational experience! read more

He sold me an ICE Adventure that has been nothing but a headache. When the rear wheel fell apart after 9 months of riding, it took 4 months for him to repair it. The nylon seat mesh has rotted through. In less than 1 year, the rear shift cable snapped . Both the left friction and the right index shifters don't maintain set positions. The zippers on the saddle bags have oxidized and are stuck. The bracket hanger of the rear derailleur snapped sending the hardware along a course that gouged the chainstay paint. When I called the shop about the rear derailleur and damaged paint, he offered to replace the derailleur and tape over the gouges. I feel totally offered by this guy I brought my son BMX in wiech I already bought tires from them change and bought the chain from them "poor job "btw and today I'm back to bring the bike for a service ask for a brakes I might put on but the young men that works there ( nice guy) told me no breaks for a while since the COVID ok no problem, I just wanna service anyway but then he asked the older guy wiech I think is the owner he can even come and talk to me about the bike and he said no breaks no service he can't even look the bike and be nice about like you supposed to even now that you wanna clients ... anyway he said it's illegal to not have breaks wiech I understand but when I bought all the other things he never mentioned that ... So because he can't make it good money to buy breaks change and charge me he doesn't even wants to service the bike . Unbelievable . Never coming back that's for sure. read more

I was extremely happy with the customer service Storm provided to my family and I. We came in looking for 4 bikes and walked away with 3. Storm was able to fill me in on some cool bikes and I ended up walking away with a Giant Roam 2, love the bike! Storm even helped us install some bike racks that we purchased elsewhere. This was overall a great and fun experience, I will be back! A coworker told me about this place. I'm a wheelchair user with Spinergy wheels and I needed a truing badly. For $20, they fixed my one wheel that was jacked up while i sat in one of their regular chairs watching some movie. I don't recall how long it too, but they started working on my wheel immediately. I left happy. This is not a wheelchair shop but they were able to take care of me. Don't be stupid and ask for anything particular to a wheelchair and expect them to bend over backwards for you. read more

We went in looking for a bike pump. The first guy we talked to showed us the choices, didn't try to sell us anything. Chatted with my wife about a really nice adult trike she fancied. When we got the pump home, turns out there were no directions and so we couldn't figure out how to use it. Took it back with a tire from the bike and the owner showed us how to use it, making sure that we were able to do it on our own. He explained how much pressure the particular tire took and spoke to my wife again about the trike. At no time did anyone try to sell us anything. A-freekin'-mazing! read more

I did not feel good about this shop. I came for a rear derailleur adjustment. Richard charged me even he did not fix the problem at all. He said that I have to replace the chain. I did not believe him and I went home to use my chain wear indicator to check my chain, it shows just a little stretch, not even 0.5 % !!! Doesn't he have a chain tool at the shop to check it, before asked me to buy the new chain?!? It took me a trip to other bike shop to fix it, the problem is fixed and it is not about the chain ! read more

My first experience with Richard's Cyclery was excellent. I had a shipment of components on its way and needed to install them as soon as they arrived. I called them ahead of time and they saved a spot for me in their service queue. 2 1/2 hours after I dropped my bike off it was ready to go, and their service rates were very reasonable. They went as far as applying protective pads on my frame to prevent my cables from scratching it and that's why they are a 5 star shop. I will definitely be a returning customer. read more

I have to say that we have been going to Richards for a long time. My husband has a very expensive bike but when we needed something he was always willing to help and the price is great as well. If you know Richard he is a person you have to get to know to understand him (for you people who complain about him) the shop has a lot of people in and out and I think when you are as busy as this shop you are doing something right! I have been to high end shops and the only thing I got out of that is rude owners (kings) so to this day I still bring my stuff to Richards and have bought 4 bikes from him and stuff ordered from him with no problems what so ever. read more

this place is an absolute old school gem! In this day and age where bike shops have generic products and no personality whatsoever, I was thrilled to walk into Richards and see cycling history hanging from the rafters and up on racks. there are truly some bikes on display that belong in a museum particularly the TVT lemond and the schwinn paramount anniversary edition with the campagnolo 50th anniversary gruppo. In the back case I saw a campy alloy freewheel next to a new old stock set of dura ace 7400 hubs. I am not from this neighborhood and drifted in because I had some time to kill. as luck would have it they had a couple items in stock I could not find elsewhere and their prices were reasonable. the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. If you want to see some very very cool bikes...some are even for sale I think! I'll definitely make sure to stop by here the next time I come through the neighborhood!!!!! read more

I found out about Richards Cyclery thru word of mouth referral a week ago. I needed to have my steer tube cut, rethreaded and installed n my 89' Panasonic bike. When I called in, I was answered by Steve. Once we got the talking and knew what I was talking about, sounded like they were pros already. I came in the following morning. When I walked in, I thought I was at a bike museum, lots of great bikes hanging on the walls. Anywho, I walked around for a bit and was greeted by Steve, and was able to talk to Richard as well, but spoke with Steve mostly, all I can say he is a cool dude that knows how to talk to people about bikes. I also was looking for some vintage bike for a whiile all over the internet (FeeBay, CL, etc), and voila, they had a part I had been looking for a while, How awesome is that! So I left my bike frame and fork and they said it would probably be done in two days, I was like no rush thats cool. Come next morning, I get a call stating my bike is ready to pick up! Again how awesome is that, thats a quick turn around time! Picked it up an hour later and very happy with the work done! Once again, very thankful for the priority on the work and cool customer service from Steve and Ricard! Will definitely come back for another service and/or purchase! read more

I stopped by Richard's Cyclery yesterday. They fixed me up again. They really care about their customers. They always take the time to answer my questions & offer several solutions even the cheapest DIY ones. I do much of my own wrenching but my bikes wouldn't still be on the road without Richard's advice on the simple problems, and expertise & skill on the complicated ones. They seem to get honestly excited when I walk in with an obsolete part or a difficult problem. And then they fix me up using tricks and techniques learned from decades of practicing bike repair. With Richard's advice yesterday, and a couple of dollars in parts, I'm rolling again. Plus I have the satisfaction of fixing it myself. Thank you RC.
