UPDATE: Being a regular at a restaurant should count for something. We are weekly regulars here and believe me when I say we will not be returning...if ever. Their quality of food has really gone downhill since the owner Linda's death. Went in and ordered two burger. Paid more for the bigger meat patty to have it cooked medium. Both burgers were received GREY in color and one was missing cheese, lettuce and tomato. Well the heavy set food runner didn't want to deal so he left. We stopped another waitress and she took ONE of the burgers to be recooked and our waitress brought a plate of cheese, tomato and lettuce! Gross! It's not even melted. So I spent $60.00 on 2 barely eaten burgers and the club someone else got was dry with a dry pickle. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED! How would the employees or managers feel feeding their families at $20 a person and having the NASTIEST FOOD! We all left feeling disappointed and disrespected. We won't be coming back no matter how much we love our regular servers. We had the displeasure of being sat in Connie's section. She clearly does not like her job and has a horrible time hiding it. Everytime we asked for something it was a snarky comment or look of inconvenience! Even the family in the other booth had the same experience and shared the same sentiments when she left their table. My husband and I have been loyal customers of Richie's Real American Diner for 36 years. We started coming here when we were in high school, so we've been eating at Richie's longer than some of the employees have been alive. At this point, our booth should probably qualify for historical preservation. We stopped in this morning for breakfast, and unfortunately it was one of those visits that leaves you wondering if someone quietly swapped Richie's for a very convincing movie set. Our waitress was as busy as a one-legged waitress on a pogo stick during the Sunday breakfast rush. She had so many tables that when she finally reached ours, we ordered our drinks and breakfast in the same sentence because we weren't entirely confident we'd see her again before retirement. She worked incredibly hard, and none of what follows is a criticism of her. She simply wasn't given a fair chance to succeed. Frankly, she deserved backup, not more tables. Our food arrived quickly thanks to Octavio. Now...the hash browns. These poor potatoes have been on quite the emotional journey lately. Some mornings they appear to have been shown a picture of a grill from across the room. Other mornings they're cremated on one side to the point they could qualify as fossil fuel, while the other side remains suspiciously optimistic about ever being cooked. Breakfast has become a culinary game show called "Guess That Hash Brown!" Because our waitress never had a chance to circle back, we needed several things but eventually surrendered to our circumstances. After we finished eating, we waited...and waited...and finally asked a busser what our table number was so we could simply pay at the register ourselves. Then came the moment that perfectly summed up why this visit felt different. There are two registers. One cashier was busy helping another guest. Manuel was standing behind the other register, where he had been helping customers moments earlier, so naturally we waited there. Nothing. Thinking perhaps he simply hadn't seen us, we moved behind the customer at the other register. The instant we moved, another gentleman walked up to the register we had just left. Like he'd been waiting for his cue, Manuel immediately rang him up. I actually looked down to make sure I hadn't accidentally put on Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. After helping him, Manuel walked right past me and said, "Someone will be right with you." Well...yes. Eventually. But that wasn't really the point. This isn't the first time we've felt dismissed by Manuel. For years I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was shy. Maybe it was a communication issue. Maybe I was imagining it. I'm not imagining it. The remarkable thing is that we've never experienced this from anyone else at Richie's. Nearly every employee we've encountered over the last 36 years has been kind, welcoming, and genuinely happy to see us. Which is exactly why this hurts. Jack and Linda didn't build a restaurant. They built a family. People didn't just come for pancakes the size of hubcaps or biscuits that could solve most of life's problems. They came because Jack and Linda somehow made every customer feel like they mattered. Whether it was your first visit or your thousandth, you felt like you'd been invited into someone's home. That kind of hospitality can't be written into an employee handbook. It has to be lived. Lately, it feels like that beautiful spirit is quietly fading away. The building still says "Richie's." The menu still says "Richie's." The coffee still smells like Richie's. But the feeling... The feeling is slowly slipping away. It's as though with the passing of Jack and Linda, little pieces of the heart of Richie's have been leaving too. Not all at once--but one interaction, one understaffed morning, one inconsistent breakfast, and one missed opportunity to make someone feel welcome at a time. That's the truly disappointing part. Restaurants can fix hash browns. They can hire more servers. They can retrain managers. But preserving the culture that Jack and Linda spent decades creating--that's the real challenge. We don't come here because it's the closest diner. We come because, for 36 years, it felt like coming home. Lately...it feels like we're visiting the house after the family moved away. This is my third visit with different friends and will not be going back. Every time I've been now someone has had to send something back. Also, I had to ASK for the roll whereas they're usually an option provided by the waiting staff during ordering. My waitress assumed I wanted toast without asking me, so I had to interject and tell her I wanted a cinnamon roll (which is still a side option). I was pretty annoyed with the cheap decorations during this visit. Here we are, several weeks past the 4th of July and they had a hot mess of patriotic dollar store decorations and flags. It was very overwhelming and unnecessary. I prefer the classic Americana diner feel that Richie usually has, not this cheap mess. Wish I could give 3.5 stars -- Richie's has its moments! When Richie's is good, it's really good. But I've had a few inconsistent visits. My go-to is the ribeye breakfast with soft scrambled eggs. I usually order the steak medium rare and more often than not, it comes out closer to medium. Not a dealbreaker though, since ribeye is a pretty forgiving cut and the extra cook time helps render the fat a bit more. Today's visit? Steak leaned more medium (again), and the eggs were a little overdone for my "soft scramble" preference. That said, the biscuits and gravy? Still top notch. Rich, peppery, and comforting, they never miss with those. And as always, the service was excellent, my coffee cup never once hit empty. I finished my coffee and had to wave another waitress down (not our waitress) for a refill. Their berry jam is AMAZINGLY good, however they give you very little. I finished their portion on half a slice of toast, and couldn't get my waitress to come back to check on us. So I got up and walked over to the kitchen to ask for extra jam. Good portions but it one of these places that you want to run to for your next meal. The decor is a 5 star, just like an old 50's diner, very cool. I had the chicken fried steak which is called 'Diddys fried steak' ...maybe name change would be on order wifey had a walnut salad that was not tossed in any dressing, so she had to do the tossing. We ordered the 14 oz wood-smoked NY steak & eggs. Comes w 2 eggs, country potatoes, and toast. The steak was topped with a creamy pepper-butter. The first bite was delicious!! Right away, you could taste the smokiness in it's flavor profile. The steak was also quality and cooked perfectly to my liking, medium-well with its very pink middle and well seared outer crust. The potatoes were very flavorful and the eggs were cooked just how I asked. The English muffin was very good and came w a side of grape jelly, which was very pleasant and tasted like it was made in-store. I also got 2 cinnamon rolls to-go. **Pro-Tip: one cinnamon roll is $5.95, but if you get two, it's $7.95. Great deal!! The cinnamon roll was very good!! I like that the frosting was separate from the cinnamon roll and you'd put as much or little as you want on there. Service was very good!! Fidel was very fast at getting us our food amd refilling our drinks, whilst also being very helpful, pleasant, and friendly! Overall, this place is busy. I love the style and 1950s vibe! It's nice to see that this place has kept its original decor and a lot of the same recipes. My dad absolutely loves the place and the nostalgia. The food is pretty good depending upon what you get. Sometimes it's not the best but it's not bad. Other times it's really good. Just like any other place but I think my favorite about this location is the desserts! We just try their cinnamon rolls for the first time and we will be ordering a pie for this weekend! I really do appreciate a place like this thing open but I do wish that they would work just a little bit on the menu and the food even if that means reducing some of the items to make it easier for them for quality. I would also change up the lighting or something in there to make it more bright and cheery but I think what they really need is just a nice energy cleanse in there. You get so many people coming and going it kind of leaves a little bit of a heaviness sometimes. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the passing of one of the owners who I hear was very nice! So I would say maybe just a little more upbeat energy would be awesome! Light a little incense in there at the end of the day to clear out all the heavy energy from the people. Was visiting Temecula for a wedding this past weekend and we were pleasantly surprised to see that Richie's Diner was close by and it sounded like a great breakfast option and I can confirm that it definitely is. I am from Los Angeles so it's great to see a retro, traditional diner in other cities that is very popular back home. They have a giant parking lot with tons of free parking and the inside is actually very large. They can host a lot of different size groups. They also sell many different types of candy in the front where the register is and our waitress and the entire staff was extremely friendly. They have an extremely large menu, larger than most other diners. Everything is also very fairly priced and what shocked me was how large portion sizes were. You will definitely not leave hungry and honestly, it has great value for what you get in return. Being our first time visiting we decided to try some of their classic items. I started with a Giant Cinnamon Roll to start that we shared and loved every bite of. For my meal, I chose the Country Fried Steak with a biscuit and jam on the side and both were fantastic. The steak was a large size portion, the biscuit was a true buttermilk biscuit, and the homemade jam with it really made the dish. We always drove by and saw the open bbq pit of Richie's and figured maybe we should give it a try. Richie's is a charming Diner experience with great food, great service, and a lovely nostalgic feel from the moment you walk through the door. The first time we visited Richie's we sat at a booth and I noticed a lovely lady glancing at us as we looked over the menu. She said how sweet we looked as a family and said how pretty our lil girl was. And then she stood up and came to chat a bit and we found out that she was Miss Linda, one of the owners and she pointed out that she was the cartoon lady on the walls that stated she made all the yummy pies and treats back in the day. She told us about how they change the decor with all the holidays and seasons. There's so much love and care to making the experience special. I think she may have tipped off the manager on duty that it was our first time dining with them because when we went to pay the bill, they handed us a Richie's Mug thanking us for visiting. It was such a lovely surprise. And we have definitely come to visit multiple times this year to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner! First time we came for dinner and had the Chili Cheese Fries, Club Sandwich, and Chicken Tenders and they came out hot and fresh and super delicious! We brought my father in law for Breakfast and I got to try the breakfast sampler that had a little bit of all the things they cook out on the bbq and it was solid! The tri tip was smoky and tender, the kielbasa snapped and had a great complex flavor profile. From the minute we walked in we experienced GREAT customer service! They are very welcoming! Our server Fidel was great, friendly, attentive, and professional. Walking into the establishment felt nostalgic. It was like we were in the 1950's, which I loved! The ambiance was great. The noise level is like a regular diner. Great place for families. Not only was the service great, so was the food. I ordered Linda's Southern Sweet Potato Pancakes & Eggs, the pancakes were amazing. So was the smoked ham. My husband ordered the Premium Sirloin Steak & Eggs. He said it was delicious and I agree. I picked off his plate and tried everything. The steak was well seasoned and the biscuits and gravy had a good well balanced taste. They we were not salty as others I have tasted. The coffee is good too. Not watery at all. We took some blueberry and banana muffins home. Review for those will come at a later time. This was our first time coming here, but definitely not our last!
