Don't go here!! Just had dinner at Rick's Cafe and was willing to try the new ordering system that was on the sign outside the restaurant. We hadn't been there in a few years and always loved the dinners and drinks so we thought trying the new system with new ownership would be fine. We wanted to get our own perspective since there are so many negative reviews. For me, I wish there was a way to rate this less than 1 after eating there tonight. The ordering system was quickly explained to us and we were able to figure it out. The drawback to this is the lack of any experience to interact with the staff. We typically remember great places by our experience with the staff. Don't expect anyone to say thanks for coming in at this place. You won't see anyone enjoying themselves even with the best location in Naples. If you want a better experience than here you can get it at anywhere else, even a drive through restaurant. Drinks were not good as they didn't know how to make at least the 2 drinks we ordered. The drinks are ordered on the app and were delivered to the table by people who have no expression, personality, or care for what they are doing. Eventually, the food was brought out and I could see that it was not worth the $19 for the fish taco. My guests were shocked at the cost of $17 for one dinner of 10 fries and a chicken Caesar wrap made with canned chicken and so small it was about a 3 bite size. These men actually left hungry as one couldn't eat it because it tasted so bad and the other said it was like an appetizer. No one working there asked if we were satisfied and no one cared how our experience was. As you can see from the owner responses, he doesn't care either. Please don't go here if you are hungry or want a real dinner like a baked haddock, pasta or chicken dinner. You won't find that here. Only cheap foods here and not good tasting. It is the worst food we have ever had at this place. Very sad to see how poor this place is now. We will never go back and want everyone to know about this. At checkout, you once again do this yourself and I noticed the service fee was 20%!!! There was nothing on the sign that the fee was this high!!! Ridiculous!!! For no service!!! TOTAL TOURIST TRAP! It's not authentic or even close to good Maine food when compared to anywhere else close by. Dare I suggest that I'm including Dunkin' Donuts? In all seriousness, you will never catch a local there who has even a little bit of good taste. I've been there a few times to meet halfway with friends camping in the area. I've warned them, but they're captivated by how busy it seems. The okay view of the lake does not make up for the plastic chairs and tables, terrible food, and consistent, mediocre service. The wait is always way too long or people get their food at different times. You are treated like an annoyance by the staff and the drinks are mixed terribly. It always tastes like you're just drinking pure alcohol. This last time, we called and made a reservation but weren't able to be seated when we showed up for the reservation we made. Then we were told at the END of our meal that they couldn't split large party checks (there were only five of us) but that we could use multiple cards to pay? We found that either meals were recorded wrong or that things were added to the tab when we were all figuring out who owed who what. We asked for a manager but after waiting 20 mins for them to show up, we began to be late for what we had planned next. Would not be surprised if this place ends up on one of those "save the nightmare of a restaurant" shows. This weird online QR system is totally shit. The manager must have some weird trust issues going on with the staff that they feel they can't rely on them to just walk up to a table, take their order, and charge em with a bill. You know, like restaurants have been doing since the dawn of time. Ever heard the phrase, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?" What was so broke about things that you decided to adopt this very weird very confusing very stupid system where you force the customer into the position of customer AND waiter? It is noticeably annoying to every customer seated as well as all the staff, who seem like they've spent most of their day explaining to people how to order their food. It seems like all that extra energy spent by the staff explaining this could just be spend writing the order down and taking it to the kitchen. But what do I know, I've just been eating at restaurants my whole life and have never been driven to a point of such customer dissatisfaction. If there were ever a restaurant to not leave a tip at, it would be this one. Maybe that's why the manager implemented the QR system, so they have a scapegoat for why they feel their staff shouldn't receive tips. Who knows. All I know is that I have never felt the need to write a review for any restaurant ever, and here I am letting my food get cold in front of me while I write down my grievances, because this whole operation is a shit show. Edit: Had to come back to add this as we were trying to pay. Forget about splitting the bill, the process is just as confusing if not more so than it was to order food. On top of that, they include an 18% "gratuity" onto your bill FOR you. It was explained that the gratuity acts as a tip that gets split amongst the wait staff (and kitchen too, which is unusual, but whatever), which, normally, I would respect. But considering that I couldn't tell you the name or face of whoever brought our food out... what exactly are we tipping for? You know how, at a normal restaurant, they say "Hi, I'm ___ and I'll be taking care of you this evening." Well in this restaurant you're not being taken care of. You're being brought food. The service is fundamentally & conceptually no different than ordering at the self checkout kiosks at McDonalds. The food was pretty good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't good enough to warrant another star and makeup up for the terrible, I mean, LACK of actual service. All I'm saying is, the overall dining experience was so bad that I am forgetting the flavor of whatever is was that I ordered as we speak. Save your time, go anywhere else. read more

Wife and I ate there Tues 6/29/21 7pm. Although half of the tables empty, after we got our app and drink, waitress told us they were stopping taking orders because they had too many take-outs to cook. So callers get priority over patrons already seated. Waitress offered to just give us our check. We decided to wait, and finally were able to order 15-20 mins later. Meanwhile they were still seating people! Wife had a salad with grilled chicken it was an appetizer size with 3 strips of chicken, $22. My Lobster club, which used to be cut in 4 good size triangle pieces, was 2 small halves. We ended up with over $100 bill having only 1 alcohol drink. Gone way downhill over the past 2-3 years from being a great place. Waitress was absolutely wonderful and cheery despite all the problems. Took about 1.5 - 2 hrs for this. read more

We were very disappointed when we went here today for lunch. No cash allowed, must use charge card. No menus, must use phone scan. You order everything by your phone and tax and 20% tip are included even though no one takes your order. We used to be regulars but not anymore. Why did I give it 2 stars? Outstanding food and comfortable ambiance. The outdoor seating was pleasant. View is a bit blocked by road and may have been better if upstairs was open but it was not. The inside had a fun Hard Rock motif. The fried Haddock sandwich was moist and fresh. The potato salad on the side was excellent. The chicken quesadilla was the thickest, most generously filled quesadilla we ever had. It was delicious with a bonus of fresh grilled peppers. The kids meal of mac and cheese was homemade, served on a frisbee which could be brought next door to the ice cream place for a free ice cream and came with a $3 arcade card for the place around the corner which was sweet. The Roulette 22 was excellent! Jam packed with fresh lobster and scallops in a cream sauce with a delectable cracker topping baked to perfection was a joy to find and something I will definitely go back and order again! Our server Thomas was warm and friendly. The food took a little longer to get to us than we wanted but overall we were all quite pleased. I actually went back the next day and got a bowl of New England clam chowder to go. It was really good but rather absurdly expensive. ($14.13). Bottom line is food is a little pricey in the area but Ricks was well worth it and we walked away pretty happy overall. read more

Edited for Clarity - I'm no longer impressed. There was a time when you went into a restaurant with family or friends and expected to be taken care of. The idea was that at home.. you cooked and served and cleaned.. But when you went out to a restaurant and had a seat.. the professional service staff took over and took care of everything for you. They welcomed you to the restaurant, brought a menu, took a drink order, asked if you'd like some appetizers.. and then they took a meal order. You felt as though you were being taken care of. You left a 15-20% tip - sometimes more, if the server was exceptional and the experience was complete. This is no longer the case at Rick's. It's all order and pay by app now.. AND... for your Convenience... the gratuity is already Added In, and then divided equally among the servers. This means that the outstanding servers, who make the most effort to take care of their guests will make EXACTLY what the servers who stand around talking to each other, while your empty glass no longer has any condensation on the side. Now, that seems a Brilliant, Fair and equitable approach... right?) It's almost all self-service now. You Order Through Your Phone - and pay and tip .. (just like a drive-in restaurant) someone brings you your food - and may ask if you'd like a refill .. or not. And then when you're done.. no one comes by to complete the experience.. or say "Thanks for coming in". You just sort of get up and walk out. There happens to be a drive-in restaurant (most of them in the south) called Sonic. Great burgers and fries, etc. You pull up to a lighted menu.. push a button to order through the screen, someone brings your food out. The Exact same principle .. except that Sonic doesn't add a 20% gratuity.) This is perfectly acceptable for a drive-in restaurant. But for sit-down dining, it just kills the human part of the experience. What is still puzzling is .. why not just increase the price of the menu items to accommodate for the tip? - since it's no longer about the level of service, but more about just a bill for just walking in to the store. We have been long time customers but ever since the new owners took over a couple years ago, it's just gone downhill. Way overpriced for barely average food and forget about the carefully measured drinks that are well over the average price in the area. Now the non personal service with the new order everything on your phone. We went in this past weekend and the final boot is that a 20 % tip is automatically included in your bill. That was the last straw. We will no longer be spending our money at Rick's. And by the way we normally tip a little over 20% but that should be up to me! My family has been coming to Ricks for 20+ years and have always loved our visits there. However, this time was absolutely horrid with their new online system. We did not have one single interaction with a waitress. No one even bothered to ask if we had any questions about a confusing online system or the menu. We were left 100% to our own devices to just figure it out, and when we did flag someone down to ask a question, servers were completely rude and dismissive. Food all came out at weird times too and they brought us the wrong orders more than once. Plus, after terrible service, they charge you 20% gratuity automatically. We might as well have ordered from a fast food window. This was not a dining experience at all, this was chaotic and impersonal. Rick's has lost a family of life long customers. We went there on a rainy Sunday about 1pm. Seating was quick, the server was there right away. The food came out hot and quickly. We both got triple decker turkey club sandwich which came with a choice of fries, cole slaw, or bliss potato salad. We came home with food for another meal. We would go again. Summer 2016. They did not tell us this. At payment time when I saw the bill on my phone, is when I saw the 20% fee which is a built in tipping system. There was not a thing we could do. I'm in between a 3 and a 4 star review but having only eaten here once I'm playing safe with a 3. I'll update once we go back next year (they're currently closed for the season). View is lovely. Service was excellent, we were seated promptly and server was very attentive. I had fish tacos - nothing spectacular but tasted fresh. Mr H had fish and chips - pretty good. Atmosphere was good. Great views of Long Lake and lots of outdoor seating. The food was mostly overpriced and bar food, but that is what you get with a wonderful view mostly. The veggie wrap was fresh and large with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, tabouie and a minute amount of hummus, I could barely find. Fries were good, double breaded. Spinach dip in bread bowl was ok, as well as pretzels with cheese dip. Bread from spinach dip was too hard to eat, too bad. Kids meals are $9 , but they come with a frisbee and game card. We had a dog, so this restaurant had outdoor seating so we could bring our dog, which was awesome. Views, outdoor seating, atmosphere, pet friendly were a huge plus, but food and prices were a minus. Service was good, lots of staff. It is was really a 3 1/2 star experience. Great location. read more

We went here last night. There was 11 of us. We all ordered and 3 of our meals were terrible. I got the fish sandwich which was so fishy smelling & tasting. it was terrible. My other 2 friends got the nacho's. There nacho's had hair cooked right into the cheese on the nacho's. We brought all this to the attention of our waitress who was a sweetheart. But the manager was so rude. She never even offered me or my sister a discount of any kind for our sandwiches. Which I couldn't even eat! My family has been vacationing in Naples since we were all kids, and coming back as adults, we finally decided to go to Rick's. We went in to be seated and were told they weren't seating parties of more than 6 people. There were 7 of us. After the hostess "checked" with the kitchen staff, we were still turned away. We asked if we could be served as two separate groups of 3 and 4, the hostess said no, they would not serve us. Looking at the other reviews, it seems that we wouldn't have enjoyed ourselves anyway. My family has been going to Rick's for years. Yes, they have changed things up a bit as far as ordering and paying. Anyone that uses a smartphone should be able to navigate the process easily. For those that have questions or don't have a smart phone, the staff is right there to assist. The owner and staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly to my group of 7. Food was great as usual and the view was incredible! Unless you live in a bubble, you've noticed things have changed substantially over the last few years. Staffing is a major issue in a lot of industries, especially the food industry. I don't knock the owners at Rick's for thinking outside the box at all and trying something new; I applaud them! We stopped in on their last day of the season around 5:15. Seated right away outside- only a few staff hustling. Most of the menu was crossed off but it was their last day. I asked the waitress for a kids menu but she said they were out- out of the menu but not the kids food! I made a comment while ordering and she said oh no we have Mac n cheese- thank goodness. They also made a small bowl of cucumbers for an "app"- my daughter was so happy! I got the chicken quesadilla and my husband got a lobster roll. My quesadilla was late- the bus boy apologized as there was a "huge mix up" but it appeared 2 minutes later. They apologized profusely and took it off the bill- not necessary and we tried to pay. Our waitress did not stop running and was serving so many tables. She was friendly and smiling and kept our beers full. The prices were expensive but the food was very good and worth it. I really should have trusted the Yelp reviews of this place and turned around when I saw the 2.5 star average. I understand that restaurants in tourist areas are going to be expensive and may not have terrific service, but this place has nothing to recommend it except the location and the beer selection. The day we came, we had just spent a lovely morning at a beach on Long Lake. We had a party of eight - five adults and three kids. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy, but the hostess was able to seat us right away. They appeared to be at about 2/3 capacity, so it was busy but not completely full. As we were being seated, the manager (?) came over to and told us they were very busy. There was a big party in front of us, so we were going to have to wait. While I appreciated the warning, the way he conveyed the information was such that I doubted whether they were interested in our business. I thought about pulling the plug right then, but I decided not to make waves. Little did I know that it would take almost two hours to get through lunch. A server came over soon after we were seated to take drink orders. We ordered ordinary drinks - water, iced tea, sprite, a couple beers. Actually, the draft beer selection here was pretty decent. Then we waited about 10 minutes for our drinks. When they came, the soft drinks were in pathetic little 8 or 10 oz cups. I finished off my first iced tea in less than a minute. In the mean time, the big party they had got up and left the restaurant. We thought that would help since about 40 people left, and the restaurant was only at about 1/2 capacity. After we got out drinks, we waited another 10 minutes or so for the server to take out order. We ordered a burger, a couple Greek salads, fish and chips, fried clam strips, a couple kids chicken strip meals, clam chowder in a bread bowl, and nachos as an appetizer. We specifically requested that the nachos come out first. Then we waited, and waited and waited and waited. It had to have been at least half an hour before the food all came out at the same time. In fact, the nachos came out last. They also messed up the chowder since it was not in a bread bowl. We asked them to bring the bread bowl and it took another 10 minutes before they served it. The portions were pretty big, but the prices were also pretty big. My fish and chips were just okay, but I am pretty sure the fish was previously frozen. The clam strips seemed like mostly breading. The Greek salad was served with peppercorn ranch dressing - WTF? When I saw the managers walking around, he appeared sort of lost, like the dopey manager / owners you see on Kitchen Nightmares and Restaurant Impossible episodes. He was not helping servers or the kitchen get food out. Seems that a clueless manager equals poor service and food quality. By the time we finally left it had been almost two hours. That is simply too long for lunch at a casual restaurant such as this. Finally, to add insult to injury, a couple people in our group complained of stomach aches later.
