Let's begin with the awesome. I have been here three times now and I really like the bartenders. The U shaped bar is nice and they have Golden Tee golf and plenty of TVs to watch the games. If I were going to go to a bar to watch football, this would be the place. Now, the not so great: Yesterday, I finally ordered the GROUPER nuggets. I capitalize GROUPER because it's my favorite local fish. It's also extremely expensive at the market. I got my plate of GROUPER nuggets and it was large; there must have been well over a pound of fish on the plate. The entree was priced at under $20. Now, I'm not saying that Rick's is passing cheap fish off as being GROUPER but you do the math. Further, the bartender told me that the fish had never been frozen and was fresh yet the only flavor the nuggets had was the breading and that wasn't much. I'm probably way off on this assumption but I've seen the scenario before. To reiterate, I like the ambience of Rick's and will most likely go back for a cold beer and maybe some Golden Tee. read more

We wanted to get away from the fast pace of the tourist area today and soak up the rain while getting some dinner. We decided to come here and don't let the location be your deciding factor on walking through the doors, as it was almost ours. Sure it's not overlooking the water but the interior is wicked cute and the staff were friendly enough that it made up for the lack of exterior beauty. Each of us ordered something different from the dinner menu: fried shrimp, clamstrips, gumbo, chicken sandwich, salads, and crabcakes. Their ranch dressing is homemade Inhouse. History: moved to FWB 2018. Ate at Rick's on Elgin Pkwy 1/2 dozen times. Stopped going. Relatives just came for a visit and we decided try Rick's again. Went twice in July. Positives: quick to get seated, the 'lunch menu' - love the option to try a couple of entrees w/less portion. Fried shrimp good. Good selection of sides. They automatically put all the sauces on table and the containers are cold so you know they haven't just been sitting around at room temp (a good thing since some are mayo based). Service is fast and after going back 5 yrs later, recognized 2 of the women service staff so they appear good at retaining staff. Negatives: crab cake - nope - way too much breading and outside burnt. I'd rather pay for a good lump crab cake with basically no breading (love Bonefish Grill). Same as 2018, we seem to always get same female server - no personality, no greeting such as "hi, I'm XXXX . . .', never a smile, doesn't appear to enjoy her job at all. I asked if I could swap fries that came with my item for another side - she hit a few buttons on her device, said "yes". I told her what I wanted. When I got the bill, I'd been charged $2 to swap sides. I'd like this to be disclosed when I asked the question. May go back but it won't be for the pleasant service. read more

How is this place rated so high in comparison to the much better options in town. It's been 1 hour and 16 minutes and I still am waiting for my oysters, yes the oysters still haven't came. Service was terrible, cheese requested on a burger was forgotten, ranch never brought out, wasn't offered one refill of our drinks while we waited. The Shrimp Poboy would've tasted great if it didn't fall apart once you tried to close and pick it up. For a party of 4, 2 being children, a 1 hour wait was not expected after our order was put in. Save yourself the time and go to Stewbys for more fresh seafood, and better service. Won't be coming back. One star for the shrimp poboy, it would've been a solid selection if the bread didn't give out. My biggest regrets was not ordering a beer like I wanted to. Probably 1 star but I'm feeling generous and I've eaten there once before and it was okay. This time, the food was terrible. Everything. Nothing good on the plate kind of terrible. Then there was the service. WORST waiter we've ever encountered. He was surly and rude and disinterested and uninformed. He was rushing between tables, but that's no excuse to toss the plates down at our table and run away. Our orders were wrong. When brought to his attention, he huffed and seemed offended. We never did get our proper orders. We paid, and for the first time in our lives, we did not leave a tip. We always leave a tip, even if the food is bad because that's hardly the waiter's fault and they are at least trying. Not this guy. read more

Old Florida seafood shack inhabited by rabid Pittsburgh Steelers fans. Good raw oysters and even better grouper fingers. Beer is Pittsburgh cold but the seafood is gulf fresh. It's kind of a dive bar that patrons stayed past supper in so they started feeding them and evolved. They have a really good fresh seafood pizza that no one else seems to be able to pull off. It's loaded with shrimp, scallops and fresh flaky fish. They have private party rooms. Service is okay, but not Pittsburgh snappy. read more

As a previous reviewer said, don't let the outside of the building scare you off. The waiters were friendly and attentive (Josh was ours), the food was excellent and reasonably priced. I was disappointed to not be able to order oysters as the truck had not arrived but the steamed gulf shrimp was tasty. The grouper bites were delicious and the catfish, the fried fish po-boy and fried shrimp were all excellent. Desert choices included homemade cheesecake and key lime pie - both of which were simply delicious! This place is definitely a thumbs up! read more

I am a an airline guy and have had Fort Walton Beach overnights many times over the years, as I have relatives who live here. The relatives have always taken me to the touristy parts of town and I have always found one common theme: the service is usually provided by someone that seems to care less about actually being there, or just has too many tables. The food tastes unoriginal and like it just came off the back of a Sysco foodservice truck: frozen and pre-made. Our van service driver, Jamie, tells me every time we pass Ricks going from the airport to the hotel, that I should eat there. I wish I had done so earlier. Our server, Mike, was attentive, positive, and made great recommendations. He really added that extra bit of satisfaction to the experience. Good service goes a long way to make a meal in my opinion. The Oysters were perfect - large and clean. Someone below mentioned they were small - I did not see that at all, though I imagine it varies by season and which oyster bed they are buying. Regardless, I was very happy. The Slamberjack Poboy, a tantalizing sandwich with fish, bacon, and melted cheese, was fantastic. I am not usually much for Amberjack but it was spiced well. To offset the bad calories I got steamed veggies instead of fries, and even they were very well done. My aunt got a small salad and the crab cakes appetizer, which were big enough to be a whole meal(she only ate one). All the portion sizes at the tables around us seemed very generous - certainly compared to other restaurants we had been to in the area. We stopped by here during happy hour and didn't realize oysters were on special then too. Which was a pleasant surprise since a couple of us were looking forward to fresh oysters to consume. They were a bit on the small side (not sure when FL oyster season is though) and could be scrubbed some more. However they were fresh and yummy. I preferred them raw but the steamed ones were steamed well and not over done. Hubby got the seared tuna app which was fresh and delicious. He got the ribeye which was tender and grilled shrimp add on. The shrimp were seasoned well but not overly to take away the sweetness of them. Someone in our party got a salad as a meal but honestly, this isn't the place for salads. It's just bagged iceberg type with not a lot going on in it. Started with crab cake appetizer and it was awesome. It was full of meat and a very good size. $11 for two crabs cakes was very much worth it. I got the snow crab and added 6 grilled shrimp. My meal also included broccoli, corn and potatoes. Everything was delicious, even the garlic butter to dip my crab in was awesome. My mom got the fried shrimp and they were wonderful. They were big and plump and had a nice light breading on them. Overall this place is very much worth every penny spent. If I lived here I would definitely come back regularly. My husband and I brought our newborn daughter here for her first dinner out! ;-). The whole experience was truly awesome. Josh was our server and he was great! He was nice, fun, and attentive. When he found out we has never been there before, he was quick to give us his recommendations...and they were excellent. We both tried what Josh recommended. I had the grouper parmesan. It was awesome. The grouper is local caught and cooked in white wine and garlic, topped with parm, and served with steamed broccoli, roasted red potatoes, and corn on the cob. The hubs got the fried soft shell crab and he said it was the best he'd had in 10 years. They were huge, perfectly seasoned, and served with fries, hush pups, and cole slaw. We will be returning to Rick's before we leave the Fort Walton Beach area. If you are visiting the area, or if you live here, you really need to check it out!! The first night my wife and I arrived in Fort Walton Beach it was a Sunday and it was almost 8 o'clock. We didn't know the area very well so we drove up Eglin Pkwy and passed a slew of fast food chains, but ultimately decided to try and find a seafood place. We saw Rick's Crab Trap (not to be confused with the other crap trap place on the island) and parked out front and went inside. As soon as you walk in you'll notice a lot of local artwork on the walls and Pittsburgh Steelers memorabilia. (I guess the owner is a fan???) Anyway, the decor is nothing to brag about, but what I can brag about is that the food is AWESOME. Now, I've gotten a chance since my first outing to try other seafood places in the area, but time after time I always come back here. My go to items are the fried crawfish tails with remoulade sauce (the sauce is friggin' dynamite) and the shrimp and oyster poboy. My wife usually orders the soft shell crab poboy or the broiled crab claws. The servers at Rick's are really friendly and the bartender, Ian, makes killer drinks. Always serving them with a positive attitude and a smile. The atmosphere is laid back and I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Really impressed. Great service, good food, good prices. Don't be scared by the outside appearance. It's a total dive, but in the way I like. Nothing fancy, no pretense. It has a definite come-as-you-are, everybody's-welcome, vibe. We got there a little early and they had their happy hour specials. They had specials on beer, drinks and oysters (raw or steamed). We got 2 dozen raw and a dozen steamed. The oysters were great. We also got an order of crab cakes, which were a generous size and well seasoned. Many things looked good, so we decided to order a selection of appetizers rather than entrees. A fried sampler (Oysters, shrimp, calamari, mozzerella sticks), bbq shrimp, "Slamberjack" taquitos, a bowl each of gumbo and crap soup, and hushpuppies. The items on the fried platter were all great, crunchy, nicely breaded, and well seasoned. The oysters were the best. The hushpuppies were very crunchy. The bbq shrimp (in-shell) were very flavorful. The gumbo was solid, but the crab soup was exceptional. Creamy and rich, but not heavily so. The only thing I didn't love were the slamberjack taquitos. I think the idea is better than the execution. They tasted mostly of the fried tortilla shell. The filling kind of got lost. The prices, especially with the happy hour specials, were very fair for what we got. This was my first time here. I ordered the Rich's famous nuggets and the creamy crab soup to go. I wanted to go some place close to the airport so I could make my flight. I called ahead and it was ready when I got there. It was a little crowded when I got there so it must be a local favorite. It smelled so good I had a few bites of my nuggets in the car. Yummy! I forgot about the liquid requirement and almost had to throw out my soup when I went through security. Fortunately I had enough time to quickly eat it and go back through security.
