Been going to ricks regularly for like 5 years. I always get pastrami chili fries. But recently (maybe starting 1/2025) their pastrami has been so much better. I got a bacon cheeseburger and those chili cheese fries that I had heard so much about. Both were kind of middle of the road, or "mid", as the kids say. Shredded cheese not fully melted on the fries. Tacos had old sour meat inside. Tacos start out frozen and are then deep fried. They need to rotate out the old inventory when adding new inventory. Hate to do a 1 star review. But the burger was horrible and it was not the same burger we used to eat a year ago. This was a special place saved for special occasions and the burger was a restful best burger in Whittier. All of sudden the taste went away maybe the unfortunate passing of Rick did this? Perhaps it needs to be sold or just simply get a good cook with experience. This restaurant will not last if your food continues tasteless and not fresh. Service can be a bit off putting but that could have been an off day for the worker at the register. they get your food out in a decent time. Open kitchen so you can see them keep food when you're at the cashier. The day I ate there I stayed the night before at the doubletree across the street so I just had to cross the street which was nice. I also got to meet Rick and his wife. Staff told me that the burgers are precooked and not fresh. I was told that the next time I order a burger I need to request that I want my burger fresh. What the heck?
