It is an AWESOME cafe. For breakfast--Rick's Cafe is it. It isn't Beverly Hills Spa Cuisine and it wont help your six-pack abs routine, but it sure as heck-fire has some great food and options: waffles, eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sausage, bacon, all kinds of omelets, etc., etc., you get the picture. I think there are a few Tex/Mex items as well... chorizo, Huevos Rancheros... that kind of thing. Can't speak about the lunch but if you want old school American or Tex-Mex breakfast, you can't beat it. In closing, if you are local or driving by then stop in. Staff- Some of the best waitress and waiters I have ever met. Not only are they on top of making sure you have everything you need/want, asking enough times to cover you but not annoyingly, but they are so friendly an kind. You walk out feeling like you have made friends. Food- menu has tons of options. I got the Barnburner and it was SO good! Incredible. I'm fact, I want to go back tomorrow for more! The fries were crispy and piping hot, the cheese was melted and delicious, and the side of jalapeño ranch was the best I've ever had. All in all, this is a must stop. I'm a local and come to Rick's at least once a week for breakfast or lunch. Nothing bad to say about the food, staff or ambiance. The prices are around $10 for almost every plate and $2.50 for endless refill drinks so I can never get out for under $15 with tip. But it's worth every penny though. We go here as often as possible. After your first visit, Rick will remember your name as soon as you walk in the door. Food is fantastic and the portions are quite large. I've only allowed myself to have it once, but the cinnamon roll french toast is to die for. Everything on the breakfast menu is amazing. My only suggestion would be to have more pepper and sausage in the gravy. But to really experience the food at Rick's, get a Mexican dish. It is well known in this area that Rick's is THE place to go for Mexican food in the tri-community..and that is with at least five Mexican places nearby! read more

I have been driving by this place for about 6 years. Wasn't sure how it was going to be since there's really nothing around. Today, my son and I decided to stop by and get something to eat on our way. We were instantly greeted by several of the employees. We were told to sit where ever we'd like. Service was real prompt. The staff was amazing and the food was outstanding. I briefly chatted with Rick while my son used the restroom. The atmosphere and the hospitality was top notch. Will definitely return. Saw the five star rating and wanted to check this place out while we were spending the weekend at mountain high. We had tried several restaurants in the area and weren't terribly impressed, but Rick's was a whole different story. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by very enthusiastic wait staff and were told to sit wherever we liked. Everything we ordered tasted delicious -- I know it has been mentioned repeatedly but it's worth another mention: the cinnamon roll French toast is phenomenal! It was gigantic - I needed my husband and daughter to help me eat it and even then we couldn't finish it. We all agreed our meals tasted awesome, the portions hefty, and the price supremely reasonable. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, our drinks were never empty, and our food came out very quickly. On our way through town some friends had been curious about this place so we decided to give it a try. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and treated like family. Servers were friendly and helpful. Great service made me hopeful about the food, which did not disappoint. Meatloaf and eggs - the meatloaf was so salty that it was difficult to eat and they packed it with something similar to dog food. The gravy on it was thin. I had an omelet - difficult to mess it up. Hometown comfort food at a reasonable price! The whole family was completely happy with so many choices on the menu. My husband ordered the cheeseburger with fries. I couldn't resist taking a taste...twice!! My son ordered the waffle, straightforward, nothing fancy, but he ate the whole thing. He's a picky eater, so the fact that he enjoyed his waffle is impressive! I had a bowl of soup, Lemon Chicken Rice...a delicious creamy blend, with small chunks of chicken, veggies and rice. WOW, does this place have good food! The wife and I stopped here for breakfast and it was delicious. Everything is quality and has that yummy home-cooked flavor. My waffle was excellent, as were the biscuits and gravy. Most times, the gravy is way too salty, but this was just right. Eggs cooked perfect, bacon done just right, on and on. Not one thing to criticize.The wife had the breakfast burrito and because she doesn't care for meat or beans, they made a veggie one for her. She was very happy and remarked that they must have put a whole avocado in it. The veggies were fresh and grilled just right. As for the service, it couldn't have been better. This is the ONLY place that we can all agree on as the place to go for breakfast. Even when we travel, we always end up saying "I wish there was a Rick's here". Food is great. Just like mom made it, or in my case the way I wish my mom made it. Prices are low, the staff is very friendly, and Rick himself makes sure you meal was good. I've lived in Phelan for 25+ years, and this town and surrounding towns has always had the everyone knows you and will be there for you feel. They incorporate this atmosphere in the cafe.
