Always does a good and reasonable job! Hope to never need a tow but if I do, I will call them.

Girlington Garage

Girlington Garage

(55 reviews)

I dropped off the car for a state inspection and to get the battery replaced. When I got the…read moreinvoice, there were five additional services listed totaling a little over $1,800. I had the chance to reject them, but it felt like a pretty aggressive way to try to upsell. After I approved only the necessary services, I got a notification later in the day that they had to add one more item to the invoice, a replacement mass airflow sensor. And I couldn't reject it if I wanted to pass the state inspection. I'm pretty skeptical that it was actually necessary, and if it had been included before I'd approved other charges, I'd have felt like I could get a second opinion at another garage. They had to order the mass airflow sensor, so I got my car back in the mean time. When I tried to drive it the next day, I got a warning "Check Hybrid System - Stop Vehicle in a Safe Place." When I stopped at a stoplight, the car wouldn't drive until I turned it off and back on again. I couldn't take it back to Girlington Garage because they'd closed for five days for some company event. I took it to another garage, they ran a diagnostic, and based on the results, I'm pretty sure it's related to Girlington fiddling with the mass airflow sensor. Honestly, I feel kind of scammed. The prices are really high, I feel like they tried to sell me things I don't need (and partially succeeded), and I got back a car I couldn't drive for five days. I will say, the Service Manager, Nya, seems really great.

Brought my car here to have my tires changed over. This is a 30+ year-old project car that I've…read morerebuilt over the past three years. It does not have power steering by design, and it's not required for a vehicle of this age. I've replaced almost everything on the car myself and have five years of shop experience, so I know what I'm working with. Before bringing the car in, I informed them about the existing issues. My rear tie rod bushing was bad because I was sent a defective aftermarket part from TrueHart. I had already contacted the company, and they apologized and sent a replacement. Since the car is lowered, I need that specific aftermarket tie rod for proper rear alignment adjustments. I made all of this clear ahead of time. I also explained that my front subframe was squeaking due to hitting a pothole and scraping my subframe, and that I already had replacement bushings on the way. I told them not to worry about these issues because they were already being addressed. I understand doing a pre-inspection for liability reasons. However, despite being fully informed, they flagged my inspection and then tried to upsell me on repairs I clearly stated I did not need from them. I never asked for diagnostic work -- I only came in for tires. Because they reported my car, the shop that previously inspected it ended up getting fined for issues that occurred after my inspection. My inspection was also set to expire in two months, so it wasn't even close to new. I want to be clear: I have nothing against the mechanic. My issue is with the service writer and how this was handled. In five years of working in shops, I've never had a worse experience. If you don't work on your own vehicle, be cautious. If they bring you a quote for additional work, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to anything. Based on my experience -- and what I've seen in other reviews -- this doesn't seem like a one-time issue. This is the only shop I've ever felt strongly enough about to write a negative review. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience I've had.
