We are from the New Orleans area and this food is definitely one to write home about! We travel 12 hours to eat here and every time the food quality tastes exactly the same. The gravy used on the pizza and sandwiches tastes like Nona's from the old country. The ingredients are fresh, clean, homemade, and healthy. The steak sandwiches should not be missed! The pizza is the best in town (we've tried the ones Chicago says are best). Plus it is affordable even for a family of five as the proportions meet Louisiana standards! So I ordered food 2 hours ago and I called them to see what was going on with my order. After I was placed on hold for a few min, the person on the phone came back and said they placed my order for pickup.. last week I ordered from them and they forgot my drinks. I talked to the manager and the only thing they can do is have me pick it up or wait another hour for my food and that theres nothing they can do. read more

March 21st 2021, I have been ordering from RICOBENES...for about eh.... 8 years. Fabulous place. Still have not got chance to indulge in the restaurant. Itself see the Fabulous old school intior i hear about. Only thing I Can Complaint about is as many years we have ordered. I did recieve my my USUAL Double burger with everything. Beyound cooked. MYbe its a busy issue. But this is by far the #1 Spot I usually eat at(order out) only complaint was this was my gfs, bday. Oh (oh, and they didn't have my breaded mushrooms. Which is a Must. Checked in here today, looking for a late night treat ordered my favorite pizza the mushroom & spinach made it all the way to the last few bites then I find hair cooked into the crust. I proceed to take it back to the manager when she says to me: it's almost gone, we can't replace the 'entire' slice. Seriously, a venue as large as this is worried about comping a $4 slice of pizza? What type of buffoons is running this place? I really wanted to finish my pizza. However, now, due to this ignorant comment I want a refund of the practically finished slice along with the to-go slice I ordered for lunch tomorrow. Holy moly. Get the king sized breaded steak sandwich with mozzarella, and ask them to melt the cheese. You will not regret it. (The smaller size is only 6" and the king size was described to us as double the size and double the meat, for just ~$2-3 more. Honestly, you'll need more than 6".) My husband and I were in town for a few days, trying to eat our weight in food. We had just finished dinner in Chinatown and wandered over to Ricobene's to pick up the widely acclaimed breaded steak sandwich. It was our first time there, but my cousin, who's a regular, coached us on what to order. It would be our 6th meal of the day, but we knew we needed to try it. My other cousin highly recommended the lasagna pizza to us, but we really couldn't fit two things into our already stuffed bellies, and we were too lazy to go wait on the pizza line to order the slice. After I ordered the sandwich, they gave a receipt with a number and said they would call my number when it was ready. Less than 5 mins later, it was ready. When I lifted up the bag.. wow. It was probably the heaviest sandwich I have ever met.. and reasonably priced for the gargantuan sack that we received. It was warm, and stayed warm during our 30 min commute back to our hotel. I wanted to try the sandwich while it was still warm, so even though we had just eaten dinner, we still wanted to try at least a bite of the sandwich. It was SO good. Like.. can't-stop-at-one-bite good. It had the perfect sauce to cheese to meat ratio, and was absolutely delicious. My husband and I finished half the sandwich easily. He wanted to finish the other half, but I reminded him we really literally had just eaten and should probably refrain from stuffing ourselves. Summer started May 25 this year. Breaded steak, fries, a coke, and plenty of free parking. I introduced my 100%-Northsider friend (he's alright tho) to Ricobenes. He was not intimidated by the regular breaded steak. Probably set a speed record for eating it. I've been coming here since the 1980s. I've not found marinara this good anywhere. My friend said it's the perfect consistency because it doesn't make the bun soggy so it doesn't fall apart. I concur. The place was packed but the cashiers and pickup stations were fast, friendly, and accurate. No lines, no waiting on a packed Saturday night. They deserve a bonus, as does the guy who was bussing and cleaning tables. Could this staff be the nicest on the Southside? Yes. 5 stars for doing what they do. At evening rush hour the bathroom was in fair shape. I don't like the idea of food staff cleaning bathrooms but it could have used a little sweep & mop. Pay a guy come by and clean it every 2 hours or something. One peeve is air dryers instead of paper towels. Air dryers have been proven to blow certain stuff on your hands. Big cheap rolls of brown paper towels would be better. Enough of my OCD: Eat here and become a little more Chicagoan. It satisfies the soul too. read more

Had the steak sandwich everyone talks about, and definitely worth getting! The cheese fries were not my favorite (and I'm a huge cheese fry person) but prolly just do regular fries. The pizza looked good and they sell by the slice, so we got a slice of the deep dish to go and ate later, sooo good! Most likely will be back. read more

This is a Chicago institution famous for its steak sandwich, so I had to try that. I was not disappointed. It was a large breaded cutlet in a hoagy bun. I asked for tomato sauce on mine, which was the right choice. Next time, I will also add giardiniera peppers, because they have my name in their name. read more

I don't know what this "breaded steak" junk is all about, but, when WE stopped in to get one of their BEEF sandwiches with green peppers, I was in a total state of shock. This was the first time I had a chance to stop by in YEARS as this was my parents 'go to' place. Things have changed, obviously, and it is NOT for the better. Went there for the first time on Saturday night and had the famous breaded steak sandwich and it was amazing. I also had the cheese fries, also very good. I haven't had one since I moved from Bridgeport over 30 years ago. I use to go to a place that was on Morgan I think, don't remember the name of it but I swear this is exactly the same sandwich. Once again, I can't believe the response! I ordered and had delivered: a chicken dinner, pizza puff, fries, 2 cheese dogs with onion, tomato, pickle spear and sport peppers. Wouldn't you know... no cheese on the CHEESE dogs! I called to let them know, and the manager ridiculously offered if I wanted to trade them out or CREDIT FOR THE CHEESE! How cheap can you be?! I didn't want to wait another hour to have the cheese dogs delivered, but credit for the CHEESE?! You should have been offering at least credit for 2 cheese dogs in the future, given my inconvenience, and the fact that I've been a frequent flyer customer for years! I later realized that there were no pickle spears either! Someone was just plain sloppy in their duties! In addition the chicken dinner was the worst prepared I have ever experienced! My grandmother lived in the Bridgeport area of Chicago. As a boy growing there were a number of sandwich shacks that prepared a breaded steak sandwich. One of the best was sarah's. I use to sit at the counter and while they were making the sandwich, the owner would place a piece of their pizza in front of me..for free! Wow those were the days. Sadly Sarah's no longer is in business. Happily there are a few of these places in the neighborhood. One of the best is Ricobene's on 26th west of Halstead . If there is no street parking go in the lot across the street , it's free. The place is modern and has a lot of seating. This is probably the safest place to eat in Chicago because there are always police officers grabbing a bite. The steak sandwich for those who cherish it, is a pounded piece of beef about the size of an LP record. It is breaded and fried and folded so it can be fit in a piece of Italian bread. A red sauce is ladled on it along with optional peppers and mozzarella cheese. You want it loaded. You have one more decision to make ! Regular or king ( king is basically a double sandwich ) Get the King, eat half and take the other half home. You or a friend will eat it later. They have great fresh fries you get a large bag Yes they have pizza, beef and other goodies. I have never eaten anything but the steak sandwich. read more

The lady who took our orde My husband and son got the beef sandwich and me and Brandi shared the Italian breaded steak sandwich. It was all great! The guys kept talking about it all weekend. I absolutely love Ricobene's! If you're looking for a quick bite to eat that offers quality, fresh, filling, and delicious food, Ricobene's is the perfect place! The atmosphere is great, the staff very friendly, and the dining areas are well maintained! What I like the most about Ricobene's is their menu, they've got something for everyone. It can be overwhelming to decide on what to order but it's always worth the mental back and forth. The moment you bite into whatever it is you ordered you know the joy it brings and that's what keeps you coming back for more! Ricobene's is a great place for a date and most especially better when enjoying a meal with a group of friends and family! They definitely have the space to accommodate large groups! The lines can be a little long at times and sometimes you'll have to wait a while, you'll notice that everyone in line is super patient because is totally worth the wait! On this particular visit my boyfriend and I decided to indulge in the pizza. He went with a slice of sausage and a slice of pepperoni and I went with the lasagna slice and a spinach slice.
