Picked up my commuting bike from Ride On yesterday afternoon. Innis Looby was a great help in steering me to purchasing the right bike for my needs. It's comfortable for commuting to work on which I plan on doing a couple of times a week. Innis even provided me with fenders and a rack. I had a broken spoke (tubeless setup) and wanted a couple adjustments made on the bike. Got a full tune-up and was told the bike would be ready within 24 hours. 24 hrs goes by, no call or anything. I called in to ask about it and found out they had not even started on the bike. In total, the repair took 4 days after numerous calls and back and forth. The mechanic did a great job on the bike and things were handled well. You should not guarantee timeframes you cannot meet, especially 4x the amount of time. Also, I was charged extra for tubeless tape and sealant, which was not revealed to me until the day of pick up. $100+ is pretty pricey for a 4-day tune-up. read more

I understand that we are in the midst of a pandemic, but since this company is listed on Yelp! it would be nice if they'd update their page with any COVID-19 related info, including unscheduled closures, or booking procedures. I rode my bike all the way to the shop only to find a notice that they will be closed until August 12th because they're inundated with repairs. Also, another notice stated that we must call first to make an appointment to book a repair. I'm just saying, I could've save an unnecessary trip of all of this info was updated on this Yelp page. Is that asking too much? FYI, I called last week to inquire if they were open and told them what type of service I needed. I was told they were open for service and that I could just stop by and bring my bike -- which is what I did. I was never told this new/updated information. We gotta do better. This business is incompetent and unprofessionally run. Do not waste your time. THE SHORT: -Called multiple times unanswered -Told to bring my bike on a day the shop was closed -Told Bike would take 1 day -Never fixed the bike 9 days later -Missed multiple deadlines -Became rude when they failed to meet deadlines -Didn't know which bike was mine THE LONG: I called for 2 days straight starting AUGUST 10th with no response on the phone, and I couldn't leave a message because their voicemail was full. I emailed them on the AUGUST 14th and got a response from the owner Innis on the AUGUST 16th. I was told to bring my bike ion the 24th days because they were busy. I agreed because I'm local and wanted to support a local business. He told me in the email, it would take 1 day. I brought my bike on a Monday (the AUGUST 24th), and they were closed. Luckily the other owner came in and saw me thru the window. Innis wasn't there and didn't tell his partner I was coming. I insisted I drop it off and I get a receipt that says AUGUST 27th for pickup. I let it slide but I get no call or text 3 days later. I call on the AUGUST 28th and they need a few more hours to get to it. Which means they haven't started it yet. I go and pick up my bike and the main reason I dropped it off, stuck seat, wasn't done. Apparently, it wasn't written on the ticket and he would need a solid hour to fix. It was a Friday and said I would pick up on Saturday, he told me he's busy and Tuesday SEPTEMBER 1st would be better. Once again, I let it slide. On Tuesday no phone call and when I call on SEPTEMBER 2nd, and he needs more time to get to it. I HAD ENOUGH so I said I would pick up my bike, he got an attitude and told me "if I was going to be like that" then I should pick up my bike. So, then I go to pick up my bike and he gives me the wrong one. So even if I let him "get to it" he would have done the wrong bike. The level incompetence at this shop is atrocious. I wasted 2 weeks of my life trying to support a business in my neighborhood that treated a local terribly. Innis shouldn't be running a business. I am bike commuter, and mild enthusiast. I have had my bike serviced here and was very satisfied with the results -gears changing and running smothly and no squeaks or grindy feeling. I waited in the coffee shop next door (Hot and Cool Coffee -amazing spot) and saw the mechanic actually test riding it before going back in to make another small adjustment. He had such a good experience that when I was in the market for a bike myself, that's where I wanted to go--and got a beautiful 3-speed cruiser + a helmet, lock and other gear. Since this was my first bike purchase in years, I especially appreciate Adé going on a ride with me around the neighborhood to help me get acclimated with the gears and safety signals. I love this shop! I had seen it in passing but it wasn't until I discovered my bike tires were hopelessly flat on my way to CicLAvia that I decided to stop in. I arrived and noticed the sign on the door said the shop wouldn't be open for over an hour. I knocked anyway and not only did the person who worked there answer the door, he assured me I didn't need a new tire and only needed air, which he gave me. I have been back several times since then and I have always been greeted to excellent customer service and fair prices. This is a gem in the black community of Leimert Park. I went to this bike shop and the only thing I can say that is positive is that they did a good job fixing my bike and having their employee bring my bike inside. And the only thing I said to the employee was thank you. I was told that it will take 24 hours to fix my bike. And it took three days, When I called in to ask about my bike. Someone answer the phone very unprofessionally. He didn't know where to look for my bike. I'm just happy to get my bike back. I'm only writing this review to warn others about my experience . After dropping off my bike I was receiving calls and pictures of a strangers genitals. I was being sexually harassed through text by this stranger. After blocking this man on my phone; this man went on my WhatsApp to continue to harass me. This time he sent his picture. And it was the employee from the bike shop. My girlfriend's bike had been sitting up in the garage for years, and she wanted to get it fixed. So, I looked for a bike shop near me, and it just so happened to be one on Degnan, in the Artist's District. I brought it in on Friday, and he said he'd get to it on Tuesday. Sure enough, he called me Tuesday afternoon and said it needed rear brakes. I said, okay, and he said it would be ready in 20 or 30 minutes. When I saw it, I thought he was giving me a new bike, but when I looked closer, I was sorry that I was going to have to tell him that he was giving me the wrong bike. I asked, "Is this the bike I brought in?" He looked down at the receipt and read, "A blue and white Schwinn." I said, "Yeah... but it didn't look nothin' like this! What did you do, put a new seat on, and handlebar grips, and polish the rims?! He said, "No... I just gave it a tune-up, and cleaned it up a little." I mean, I don't know how to thank him. I came to this bike shop a while back to get the gear shifter on my beach cruiser replaced, I remember feeling like I was being overcharged because they were telling me cost per foot and all these technical reasons why the line I had wouldn't work and I'd need a new one, but I didn't mind because I understand businesses need to make money and I'm glad to patronize. Fast forward about 6-7 months, I have a brand new 4 month old beach cruiser, I jumped off a curb and noticed I busted a spoke, I kept riding for a few days until I could go get it repaired, by then it had 3 broken spokes. This same thing happened to me with my last bike and I took it to "Primos Bike Shop" on western and Vernon, they charged me $15 to replace the spokes and straighten the rim, So I thought I had an idea of what it's going to cost to get it fixed and the time it'll take, I decided specifically to go to Ride On and get this fixed because I want business in Leimert to thrive, so I went to Ride On and explained what work I needed done, I asked how much it would cost because I was going to leave the bike and go play the drum circle. Instead of telling me the total I was given an itemization and told that it would cost me $25 to true the rim and that each spoke cost $2, so I said that's $31 right? And the reply was yes, I was told to come back before 4 when they close, I did and they weren't done so I left and came back to get my bike, when I go in to pay, the says yeah that's $48.65(something like that I don't recall the exact number but it was 48 something), and I was like where did that come from what happened to $31? He said $25 for trueing the rim and $3 per spoke.. I said "that still doesn't add up", and reminded him of what he said earlier and then he adjusted some stuff and it ended up costing me $38.11, once again I felt like I was getting overcharged but still paid knowing I could've went to Primos like I did before I knew of ride on. Now at this point I'm a satisfied customer, my bike is fixed I'm over the cost because I don't mind supporting local business, so I go riding, the next day I wake up and my tire is flat(for the first time since I've had this bike, the day after I get spokes replaced), I call Ride On and let them know what happened they tell me to come back the next day and he'll take care of it for me. So I did, the guy looked at it and said that he may know what happened but that wasn't one of "his" inner tubes so he didn't know for sure and if it happens again come back and he'll take care of it , but as for this time he charged me about $9 for a new inner tube, once again I leave and go riding..... I wake up getting ready to Ride and my tire is flat again I'm like WTF is going on, at this point I'm out in Santa Monica and didn't feel like walking my bike back to Ride On from Santa Monica so I stopped by a Perry's on the beach where they do bike repairs, I explained to the bike tech everything that happened with the spokes and the flats, he removed the tube inspected it and showed me the hole on the inner part of the tube and explained that this hole came from the tube being pinched by the rim, he showed me how the inside of the tire was clean with no holes and he showed me the tape over the spokes on the rim so it wasn't from the spokes being replaced, he said whoever replaced this inner tube did it without putting a little air in first and that caused it to pinch against the rim and slow leak out overnight. He also told me that the way the person who touched it before him tightened the spokes on the new spokes but not all of them, made other ones have more pressure and some were loose, he didn't want to charge me more than the rim was worth to work on it. He said these rims new were about $30 , so he charged me $16.75 (yes in expensive Santa Monica at Perry's the same place a burger is $14 by itself) to replace the newly broken spokes, change the inner tube and reinforced he spokes. Two days later on Thursday June 20 I went to Ride On early with the intention of being refunded for the inner tube I bought from there and to be reimbursed for what I paid at Perry's to repair what was done. The guy at the bike place seemed pretty upset that I took it and got it fixed somewhere else, he denied improperly filling the tubes and took everything so personal as an attack that even me saying I'd write a review on this situation caused him to say I was threatening his business, we stood outside going back and forth getting loud, I feel I have been wronged and him who wronged me is standing there trying to tell me how to speak and addressing the way I'm speaking rather than what I'm saying, my position is that I paid twice for problems caused by Ride On, if I would have never let him touch it I wouldn't have had two flats and his position was that I can't come and tell him how I got "treated better" at another place then expect him to help me. I was offered credit but it's worthless because I'll never go back or refer. read more
