I was in town to run a half marathon and in the afternoon after the race, I told my friends who were hosting me at their house that I wanted to refuel with some sushi. They took me to Riki Sushi. We got there about 3:45 and thought we'd be able to walk right in since it was an in between time, but we had to wait for about 10 minutes to get a table for 3 adults and 1 child. The inside looked like a typical sushi restaurant, but the food and service were outstanding! We ordered various things including edamame, sushi rolls, chicken karaage, udon, and a salmon bowl. I personally had the udon, salmon bowl, and lots of pieces of the sushi rolls! It was exactly what I needed to quench the ravenous feeling I had after running 13.1 miles earlier that day! We have been here many times before abs it never disappoints. The sushi here is fresh and delicious. I loved my protein roll and the sashimi. The service is excellent and was very quick despite the restaurant being very busy as it was peak dinner hours. The restaurant is a bit small, so if you go on a busy night like we did, you might end up waiting a little while to be seated. The inside does have a very cozy and simple atmosphere with a traditional Japanese theme. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and will be coming back many times in the future. read more

After the North Park Book Fair my friends and I were pretty hungry and because it was so hot decided that Riki Sushi would be a good choice. My friend Heidi recommended it because she and a friend really liked it so I was so excited to check it out. When we came in we were the only guests, but that was fine with us, our server was really nice and patient. I ended up ordering the Chicken Teriyaki bento box which included, salad, a California roll, miso soup, shrimp tempura and sweet potato tempura, I opted to upgrade my roll to shrimp tempura roll. While waiting for the food we were vibing to the music, I really want to know what what playlist they use! Our miso arrived first, the soup even in the heat was perfect, it's pretty hard to mess up miso soup. Our food came out pretty quickly after that, I always eat the sides first prior to the main entree. I really liked my salad and the dressing it came with, it was light and refreshing. My sushi roll was pretty tasty too and the chicken teriyaki was just right. I appreciate that the chicken was grilled and wasn't overly sauced. Also they give you two pieces of shrimp tempura and sweet potato which was really nice, I've gone to places and they only give you one shrimp and random veggie tempura, so I really appreciate it. I love tempura sweet potato so I was definitely full from the sides that I got to take home leftovers. Later at night my husband ate my left overs and liked it too! I come here at least 1-2 times a month. The service is great and the sushi even better. Parking is always a hit or miss in North Park but it's worth it. I'm not a fan of krab so I've pretty much tried all the rolls without krab in it. I think you can substitute some types of fish if you ask. My go to rolls are: Yellowtail Special, Hillcrest, Washington, and Leo Loves Me Long Time. I also love getting the Nigiri Combo or a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box. It's spacious and clean, and service is quick. Most importantly, the rolls were all fresh and delicious! We got the spicy salmon (not very spicy, but solid), Big Bang (escolar, spicy scallops, and jalapeños- very yummy), and the Girls Night (bluefin tuna was where I stopped reading - the favorite of the night). They were not very busy for a Saturday, so thats probably why. They had really good music playing, and the place was nice and clean. Our server was super nice. She helped me create a sushi roll to my likings. She could have totally acted like most servers and gave me attitude for wanting what I want but she didnt. Everything I asked for she delivered! I've been to riki sushi a couple times now and the quality of the food is always very consistent! the sushi is delicious and when ordering hot items they come out HOT!! no lukewarm items so you know its fresh! Food was very good! I got the I love albacore specialty roll and ended another one so bad but I got fried gyoza which filled me up as well. Roll was 10/10 gyoza 8/10 wish they had more than just a chicken option. Service, however, was not so good. Forgot our sauces and didn't check up on us at all. Took our plates without asking if wed like the check. So we set in an empty table (3 pieces chicken karagee if that count) with no one asking if wed like the check already. They took our plates at 8:15 and we didn't pay until 8:40.... we tried getting attention multiple times and saw other tables that came after us getting helped first. The people are so kind, responsive to feedback and will go out of their way to make you comfortable and enjoy the experience. The food is delicious and there are options both for seafood eaters and vegetarian or those who eat chicken/beef (bowls, soups). Best veggie sushi options I've seen, even throughout California. One of our favorite things is the option to order FRESH wasabi (kizami). The portions are generous and the price is very reasonable for sushi in San Diego. I quite like this sushi joint. The prices are reasonable, the rolls are good and it's in a convenient neighborhood. They do get crowded at dinner time, especially on the weekends, but I've never had to wait for more than 20 minutes. All the rolls that I've had are good. We usually get 1-2 that we always get and try 1-2 things that sound interesting that day. This time, we tried the Quatro Futomaki, which was on the specials board (not listed on the menu) and the soft shell crab. I liked the Quatro Futomaki; it's a rolled up of 4 different fish, served with Kizami wasabi (yesssss! freakin love this!). The soft shell crab was also great! It was nicely battered and fried, but didn't feel that greasy. I liked that they came out slightly pumped up, whereas in many places they tend to be deflated, and when you bit into it, you get soft fluffy crab meat into your mouth. I highly recommend this dish if you like crabs. It can be very, very loud in here. It may be the layout or the structure, but it always feels like voices are enhanced inside and when you have a table of slightly intoxicated patrons, well, it can feel like you're eating in front of a loud speaker. read more
