Charming Thai restaurant off of the busy M Street corridor- when you walk in, your instantly feel more relaxed. I dined there for a mid afternoon lunch with a friend and we ordered the spring rolls, papaya salad, chicken panang and the Thai lemongrass pandan drink. The spring rolls were generously sized and the papaya salad was a nice contrast with it's sharp, fresh flavors. The chicken panang had a light, mild spice and wasn't too sweet or heavy like other restaurants . I had never had a Thai pandan lemongrass drink before so was pleasantly surprised at how well it complemented the dishes. It's a bit "grassy" on it's own but it works well with food. The service team was great- attentive but never overly so. The space is intimate so if you she a group larger than 6 it might be hard to get a table unless you make reservations. There is a cute upstairs dining room that seemed to have a few larger tables. I am so glad that we encountered this restaurant and will add it to my regular Georgetown restaurant rotation! read more

To give context, I come from Southeast Asia. Thailand was one of the countries I frequented A LOT! The food at Rim Tang is by far the best Thai food I have tried in America so far (and I've lived here 18 years). Women owned and mother and son run, the chef was a street vendor in Thailand and her dishes are authentically Thai. Don't expect the watered down over sweetened version you get at most Thai restaurants. Her dishes take you across the world tomorrow a country known for its gastronomy. We started with the shrimp chips with Nam Prik Ong. It's basically ground beef stir friend with a spicy sauce and served with shrimp chips that you put the meat on. Outstanding and they will lower the spice level on request. The spring rolls were good too. For mains we had the tom yum soup and the special which was Chinese broccoli with crispy pork. Again, cooked to perfection. Food was served quickly. The restaurant is down a side street and the decor is very quaint. Give it a try and long may it last! My favorite food stop during my DC trip! I knew they would be busy during lunch based on the reviews so I got there just after 11:30 and most of the tables were full. I had a very unusual experience at Rimtang. I had dinner with a friend at 6:30 pm on a Friday in the summer -- basically prime time for any restaurant. I don't understand, though, how a restaurant could be out of so many dishes so early on a Friday -- but at least three different entrees we tried to order were "out." In fact, the restaurant has four house specialities, of which they were out of two of them. The house specials! One that was out was fish curry. They clearly have curry since other items on menu are curry. And they have seafood. Why would they not be able to mix the two? There were other items on the menu that were not available. My meal was relatively bland. I had Kad Praw with ground chicken. Other than the rice and chicken, I'm not sure there was anything else in the bowl. Almost no basil, no vegetables other than two cucumber slices as garnish. It wasn't bad, but nothing special. Oddly, the table has a table cloth but paper napkins. That seems an unusual choice for a restaurant that has relatively expensive dishes for a Thai restaurant. And my beer was served in a can with no glass. Very odd. Overall it wasn't a bad experience. The service was good and server was friendly. But something seemed very off with a restaurant out of so many items on a Friday evening. read more

One of my favorite Thai spots in DC! I first discovered three from a Yelp event last year and they've become a regular rotation ever since. I've ordered takeout, delivery, and dined in and the quality is always good and the food is really tasty. I'm generally not a seafood person but their Tom Yum Seafood soup is legit sooo good. Idk how mama is able to make the squid not chewy but she is a wizard. The chicken Panang curry is my go to. It's got a good little kick to it but is full of flavor. The calamari is also really delicious, the batter is so light and crispy. The pad see ew is also solid, as is the pad Thai. The server was nice provided good recommendations. I had the spicy crispy calamari for an appetizer and the Ka-Praw with pork and a fried egg. It came with rice, so I ended up adding the rice to the sauce at the bottom of my bowl & ate that up too! We also ordered wine, shrimp tempura & tea. Everything was great, including the service. The bathrooms are a little tricky to get to, as we sat downstairs & the bathrooms are located upstairs. The upstairs seating area is a tad more spacious , but the whole place is pretty small. We came in as walk-ins with no reservation. The staff told us to wait outside for 45 minutes, took our number, and said they'd call. After walking around for an hour, we came back, but the receptionist informed us that no tables were available yet. Despite the heavy wind, they made us wait outside again. We were finally seated after a total wait of an hour and a half, while some other walk-ins got tables instantly. The terrible service continued inside. The table next to us had ordered 15 minutes before us and was still waiting for their food. It took another 45 minutes for our food to arrive--and that was only because I nudged the staff after 30 minutes of waiting. I've been to many American, European, and Asian restaurants, but none have ever been this slow. Price-wise, the portions were small and the flavor fell short compared to standard Thai restaurants. My husband and I had Pad Thai, seafood Tom Yum, and a platter of boiled vegetables with spicy dipping sauce and sticky rice. The vegetables were overcooked. The Tom Yum cost $30 for a small bowl that could barely feed one person (usually enough for two elsewhere), and it tasted like clam soup with zero lime leaf aroma. The tofu in the Pad Thai was bone-dry and crumbly. To top it all off, the restroom floor was soaking wet due to a leak. On top of that, the restroom was not only soaking wet but also inexplicably freezing, making me feel like I was using the toilet in the middle of a windy ocean. Came here Saturday night to celebrate friends birthday. I made reservations and had to make some changes which they were accommodating. We had to wait 10mins or so for table to be ready but we sat down and had great service and the food was delicious. I had mama fried rice and garlic shrimp along with thai iced tea. We also shared appetizers (didnt get pics of any) which were tasty. The spicy calamari, spring roll amd crab dumplings are what we tried and wiuld recommend. There is a parking lot next door for $25 or you can find street parking around. As of now, they don't have their liquor license, but they offer a variety of teas and juices. The place looks small, but there is seating downstairs and upstairs. We ordered several dishes and shared family style! My favorites include the Panang Curry, Mama's fried rice and the Kaeng Hanglay (northern Thai curry). Service was quick and top notch. A great place to meet with friends. THE BIG: Two story, Thai restaurant located in Georgetown, right down the street from the Skims. Main floor has a few tables and kitchen while upstairs is strictly dining and restrooms. Street parking and a parking lot if available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The flavors were really good here. Portion sizes are quite small. We started off with the steamed dumplings and spicy crispy calamari. Both were great, however the crab dumplings came in 3s which was tiny. Reminded me of shu mai. For the mains, we got the Mama's Fried Rice, Fried Shrimp with Spicy Garlic Salt, Panang Curry, Sai Ua (Thai sausage), and the Kaeng Hanglay (northern thai curry). My favorite was the Kaeng Hanglay curry, and the panang curry. Great flavors and warmed up the body from the cold spell. Least favorite was the sai ua, mainly because the meat inside the sausage was dry as a bean. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for our dinner for four was around $200. I'll definitely be back to try some more items and hopefully they'll have their liquor license by then. read more

The Kaeng Hanglay was a very warm pork curry that's more soupy than creamy but it went perfectly with the rice.
