Delicious! I tried Uchi in another city while on work travel and was excited to see it come to DC. The food is delicious. It is not cheap but I do feel like you get what you're paying for overall. The service is also great though we did have a hiccup but they quickly resolved once aware and I was very happy. I ordered an assortment of nigiri as well as hot rock wagyu and other things. You can check out my pictures. My favorite was the otoro. It melts in your mouth! I recommended it to the couple next to me at the sushi counter and the guy loved it but said he could only have one because it's so rich. I had 4 lol. I also really liked the hot rock wagyu. I thought it was better than the wagyu tartar if you have to pick one. I thought the uni was also fresh though I always feel like however much I'm given of uni that is never enough. You can never gave too much uni. The dessert was also very unique. It had more cilantro flavor than expected but the balance in the dessert is quite good if you get all the layers at once. I was not sure at first but liked it more with each bite as I acclimated. Service was great - food orders went through the chef assigned at the counter and drinks went through the waiter. It was very busy yet they stayed very professional yet friendly. There is also valet parking but I did not see anyone at the kiosk so ended up in the garage down the street nearby. Valet is $20 I think and the garage is $25. I would definitely go again! Maybe not an everyday thing but as a treat unless work is paying then I wouldn't mind going more! You can also go and just order a bit. Some folks were probably more reasonable in what they ordered vs me going HAM. There is also a hh but I think that's without a reservation and first come first serve for spots.

Great experience at Uchi and I am undoubtedly going back! We had an early reservation and were immediately seated. The inside of Uchi is small, but intimate. The lighting is just right -- not too dark. We started the evening with the Hama Chili and Lobster Nimono. Both dishes were excellent. The Lobster Nimono was my favorite. The chunks of lobster were sizeable and had enough coconut curry for a memorable, but not overpowering experience. Of course, being an oyster aficionado, I had to try that as well. The added lemon ponzu was a nice touch. For entrees, we tried the Softshell Crab roll and Zero Sen roll. The Softshell crab roll had a lot of texture; you have the crunch from the fried crab and pickled cucumbers, while the cilantro added an interesting -- but welcoming -- flavor. I would get this again. The Zero Sen was a great choice also. It included yellowtail, avocado, shallot and cilantro. All-in-all, a great time and great food. Definitely try for yourself. Cheers!

I've heard phenomenal things about Uchi in Texas and was glad that there was a location in DC. Happened to be in DC for my birthday, so I made it a must go during my trip. I had an amazing time here -- terrific atmosphere, modern decor, and an awesome music selection. The service was impeccable and the staff went above and beyond to make my birthday memorable. Scott was knowledgeable and made sure we were well taken care of. We gave him free rein to choose our sushi and entrees after listening to our personal preference. The food was delicious and sushi was incredibly fresh and well-seasoned. It's honestly impossible to pick out my favorite of the night, but the kinoko nabe blew me away. Every dish was perfectly executed and brought out all its flavor in such a delicate and balanced way. The desserts (especially the fried milk) lived up to its hype as well -- sweet, refreshing and a great way to top the meal off. I had an enjoyable time here, all thanks to Scott and the entire team! I could go on and on about my time here, so I'd def find my way back.

I really wish I had the chance to visit again to see if I could have a better experience the second time. But alas I was traveling and popped in for a late light dinner. In all, the service was mediocre, the vibes were a little off for me, though the food was definitely higher on the spectrum when it comes to Sushi. I sat down at the bar and when I declined ordering a cocktail, I could tell the Bartender was a little annoyed. I was looking for some suggestions and he also seemed a bit put off that I was planning to put in a small order. Honestly, I had just traveled all day and just wanted a little something because it was late. To my right, there was a couple who ordered this interesting dish where you cook your steak on a hot rock, except for the fact that the smoke from the cooking went right into my face, and I was literally smoked out sitting there. I actually had to move because it was affecting me so much. Perhaps something to think about in an intimate dining setting when it comes to menu choices. The other challenge, which really is no fault of the restaurant, potentially.... there was a group of women celebrating something who kept ordering drinks, and with every round, got louder and louder. Honestly, at a high priced intimate sushi restaurant, maybe it's not the place to sing your own version of karaoke at a table when other people are trying to enjoy a dining experience. As someone who can appreciate high-quality Sushi, that definitely hit the mark, but I had a hard time enjoying it with everything else going on. The tuna was excellent. Edamame was extremely tasty. And funny, I found that the seaweed used and Rice was absolutely perfect. The salmon piece with sake was OK. With so many other spots like this in the area, I really hope that they work on their service and ambience.

Date night at Uchi was everything we hoped it would be and then some! After hearing so many great things about Uchi, we finally decided to visit for date night and opted for the 7-course Signature Tasting Menu. If you're someone who enjoys putting yourself in the chef's hands and being surprised throughout the meal, this is absolutely the way to go. Before we even sat down, I was impressed by the space itself. The restaurant is much larger than I expected, with beautiful modern wood architecture and design throughout. The wraparound bar creates a stunning focal point and is the only seating area that doesn't require a reservation. There also appeared to be two private dining rooms, making the space suitable for everything from date nights to larger celebrations. The hostesses were welcoming and greeted us immediately upon arrival. We were about 10 minutes early, so our table wasn't quite ready and we waited briefly in the small vestibule area. Once seated, our server was kind, attentive, and happy to answer questions about the menu. I especially appreciated the thoughtful pacing of the meal, which allowed us to fully enjoy each course without feeling rushed. Because the tasting menu changes daily and seasonally, every experience is unique, but ours was a beautiful progression of flavors, textures, and creativity. We started with cool tastings that included Uchi Salad and Uchi's famous Hama Chili. The salad ended up being my favorite course of the evening, while the yellowtail paired with citrus and Thai chili was bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. The chef-selected nigiri showcased the quality and freshness of the fish, while the hot tastings brought comforting richness to the meal. The Brussels sprouts were packed with flavor and quickly became one of my favorite bites. The Kinoko Nabe with seasonal mushrooms, tentsuyu, koshihikari rice, egg yolk, and gyutoro was absolutely phenomenal. Of course, we couldn't leave without dessert. Uchi's famous Fried Milk more than lived up to the hype. The combination of vanilla custard, salted fudge, and toasted blondie created the perfect sweet ending to an already incredible meal. From the beautiful atmosphere to the attentive service and thoughtfully curated menu, Uchi delivered a memorable dining experience from start to finish. I highly recommend checking it out and treating yourself to the chef's tasting menu. I'll certainly be back to see what the chefs dream up next.

Went for happy hour to tryout Uchi, which I was so excited about! Really enjoyed the experience. The happy hour was worth it. It's definitely very small bites though. Compared to other sushi restaurants their portions are smaller than average, so I'm not sure if I would show up starving but the flavor and technique are there! The drinks are amazing. The subarashi stands out to me. And for food, the Hama chili was really delicious. Service was very fast, attentive and friendly! And the ambience is very upscale, classic; feel free to dress up.

We went for HH and the food was so worth it!! So fresh and flavorful. I ordered the Hama Chili, Brussels Sprouts, Avocado Nigiri, and the Hamachi Temaki. Everything was a 10/10. The Hama Chili was definitely my favorite. For drinks, I stayed with the Lychee Martini. It was pretty good. We also ordered the Hot Rock (not on the HH menu), really good, but keep in mind all of these plates are very small portioned. Lastly, the dessert -- couldn't choose between the Fried Milk and Warm Banana Cake, so did both. I think they were tied as my favorite, honestly. The staff brought out the Jasmine Cream on the house, which was so nice of them!! It's definitely a different flavor palate because it has cilantro, but honestly not that bad. It's worth the try! I would highly recommend this place, a true 10/10 or 5/5 in Yelp terms such a cute spot! I will definitely be back.

Excellent place in Dupont Circle for sushi and Japanese delights. We forgoed the tasting menu in favor of à la carte so we could try everything we wanted: uni, salmon belly, fatty tuna, Spanish anchovy, mushroom, hama kama (grilled yellowtail collar), a5 wagyu cooked on a hot rock (which melted in my mouth), pumpkin and cauliflower tempura, and the showstopper fried milk for dessert. Enjoyed our seats at the bar to watch the expert sushi chefs in action. Attentive service throughout, including a special recognition for Father's Day. Can't wait to come back!

A standout from start to finish. My husband and I came to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. When you enter, you walk into the bar area which has several small tables and booths along with bar seating. The decor throughout is cool. We were seated at a nice "sweetheart" table so we could sit side by side. Our server was very attentive and everyone who stopped by our table wished us a happy anniversary. We got the 7 course tasting menu and especially LOVED the Hama chili, the sea bream with lemon zest (which the head chef served us) and the fried milk dessert. It's a good amount of food for a very reasonable cost in this environment. We WILL be coming back.

Happy hour was great. Everyone here was super friendly. Rachel was our server and she was great!! Loved the bluefin tuna handroll, salmon nigiri, pork belly rice bowl, hama chili. The seaweed salad was fresh and a good portion. Could have skipped the karaage because it had too much fish sauce. Subarashi was well balanced, lychee martini was very sweet. Very upscale in both the bar and dining room.

Very good dinner here! We got the 9 course omakase happy hour deal and it was amazing. Our waiter even gave us 2 additional items. Already have my next reservation booked!

As a long time Uchi fan who has been to multiple locations, I was delighted to see one opening up in D.C. I was even more excited to be invited to the soft opening ahead of the grand opening on May 12. I was really impressed with the design and the size of the restaurant. Comparing it to the OG Austin location, this place is huge! Our waitress, Meezy was so sweet and super attentive despite the restaurant being packed. Starting off with the menu, it is excellent and has some of my personal favorites including the highball, Hama chili, and the dry-aged bluefin otoro. The service as expected at Uchi, was excellent where me and my girlfriend were taken care of. To be honest, this didn't even feel like a soft opening since everything was on point. If you enjoy the highest quality sushi, at a reasonable price especially if you go to the daily happy hour from 4-6, Uchi is the PLACE to be.

This is not a space to grab food if you're trying to have a conversation. We often found ourselves yelling across the table and when selecting items to share we crammed ourselves on one side of the booth squishing other patrons. Otherwise this would've been a 5 star review. Our waiter was amazing, albeit a bit distracted at times because of his service area, and helped advise us on the items we were interested in. We had: Koika No Karaage - their version of calamari - 10/10 - lightly fried with the most amazing texture and paired with a yuzu mayo. For the price I wish the serving size was larger but that's my only gripe. Kani - 10/10 - snow crab with spicy mayo - 2 came with the order and they were amazing. The Japanese crest was the perfect contrast to softness of the snow crab. It was also seasoned well. Hotate Toryufu - 10/10 - the scallops melted in your mouth. Amazing. No notes. California Maki - 6/10 - my least favorite thing here. It wasn't awful but it didn't compare to the other things we had. Drinks - I WISH I could remember the name of the drink I had. Hands down one of the best drinks I've ever had and was paired with sparkling sake. Bathe me in sparkling sake, put a bottle in my casket, I want it with me forever. I would come back for sure but would opt to sit at the bar. It would definitely be easier to speak to someone sitting next to you than across from you. For the price you will not get full here but if you want to share some small bites of new food this is absolutely your spot.
