When I ordered I thought he said they would put salsa on the tacos but after eating my first one, I was like man I guess they forgot, it was a bit bland but it was fine. Then after I finished the first one I realized the spicy salsa was in the bag! Prices are always reasonable and they go out of their way to take care of everyone that walks in the door. Okay fellow yelper's, this place is a true hidden gem. Walked in and were greeted right away by a man at the cash register. We ordered a burrito, a sope, and tacos de papa. It was the lunch rush, but our food came out in a timely fashion. It was good, but the star of the show was the hand made sope! It was about the size of a frisbee, and tasted sooo good. It was soft yet chewy, just yum! The bathroom was SQUEAKY clean. I saw a lot of regulars come in and out, as the owner would address his customers by name. When I reviewed this place almost five years ago, I concluded by saying I wouldn't be back, and I haven't . . . until today. In general, Mexican places in Claremont are growing fewer and worse. La Olla is not as good as the place it replaced, Castaneda's ditto, and so on, and so on. So I decided to give Rincon Azteca a chance. And I found my new go-to Mexican place! Now I *will* be back -- and often. The veggie burrito was a big hit with me. I was expecting fajita-type grilled veggies, but no. Instead, there was rice, cilantro, lettuce, a white feta-like cheese, and some other stuff I couldn't quite identify. A generous portion, and quite delicious. Five years ago, they had no guacamole - a big mistake, and I said so at the time. Now they do. Be warned, it isn't the smooth paste you're used to. It's more like an avocado-based salsa, very chunky, with tomatoes, onions and cilantro. However, it was just perfect with my burrito. (If you prefer, you can also get plain avocado; just ask for "aguacate.") Finally, I got a cheese quesadilla, which was fine and cheesy, though not as gourmet as the other items. The premises have been renovated;there are solid, attractive booths. It's still a hole in the wall, but it's clean and well-maintained. The service was friendly and efficient. My items totalled $13 something, which I thought was quite reasonable. My only complaint is that the menu on the wall is hard to read and understand. However, that's a mere quibble. This is currently my go to Mexican place in Claremont. I have been there several times, never had a bad experience. Usually pretty chill, with some fútbol playing on the tv. I really like the laidback, unpretentious atmosphere. I usually get the Chile Relleno combo and/or fish tacos, which are both very tasty. I love this restaurant! I am so sorry to give it a bad rating, but I cannot give a restaurant a good review when they are never open. I live down the street like really a ten min walk cuz it's uphill but really a one min bike ride and a thirty second drive and every time I go they are closed. It is so annoying it doesn't even matter what day it is or what time I swear on my grandma that this place is closed. Sometimes I even try the door because it seems closed but they arnt and that shit is annoying cuz it's embarrassing to go up to the door and pull on it and you see them inside but nothing no I am sorry nothing like that. I wish that I could eat here once a week at least but they are never open. I work in the food service industry I open @10 and close @9 every day and some times I open a little early and even close a little late. These guys close 45 mins early every fucking day just change your hours to "whenever the fuck we feel like it". Plus they don't even have there menu posted anywhere it's annoying. This has been my go-to for good family food since the girls at Massage Envy answered my question of where can I find someplace with real guac? They raved about the food... I do too!!! Plus they're super sweet when you go in and just want to take care of you and serve you good/great/awesome food! Chicken tacos... OH YAH!!! Guac - Get each person at your table or at home their own serving... you won't stop eatting until it's gone AND you'll LOVE EVERY MOMENT! As of today - I walked in and put in my order. My card was declined which had me completely flabbergast... what? why? I called the bank - my deposit just made was on hold for verification... You had to be kidding I already had money in my account. I haven't eatten for a few days and didn't have anything in the house other than some frozen fruit in the freezer. I got off the phone and told them I was really sorry but ... yah... the bank won't allow me access to my money. "The food is already made. Just pay me tomorrow." WHO DOES THAT?!!! We really loved Rincon Azteca and have gotten take out frequently over the years. Tonight when we went to pick up an order, the man at the register, who was walking and talking near the food moments before, was not wearing a mask. I refused to even enter, because I value my health more than a quick dinner. I am unwilling to risk my health by entering or eating food from a place that apparently puts such little value on the health and safety of their customers. So I decided to take a chance and give Rincon Azteca a try. It was a Tuesday and I saw a lot of happy people walking out (good sign). I ordered a carne asada burrito and asked if they could add french fries (like a Ca burrito ) and he was cool about it. The burrito was huge! Filled with lots of homemade refried beans, asada, cheese, rice, pico, and french fries. I have to say it was very bland. Delicious, fresh food and very friendly and welcoming service! Also super cost friendly. Been here a couple times and will absolutely be coming back. Highly recommend. Since I've been here a couple times I know exactly what I want. However there is always something a little wrong that gets annoying (we ask for no ice in the coke and they always put ice, we ask for no cheese in one burrito and cheese in the other and they usually just have no cheese in both). This is minor and normally I wouldn't care but they do it repeatedly (in my experience). Horchata is YUM and so is the veggie burrito! Been going here since 2005, and the whole in the wall feel makes this place especially nice since the wife cooks it all! Her Lengua is amazing. She trims off all the fattiness and leaves all the goodness. I really love the al pastor. My husband will tell you and everyone he knows that her rice is heavenly and perfectly fluffy and seasoned. Definitely better than any of the places I've had around here. It's a no-frills simple diner with good prices (for CA), and solid flavor. Solid Mexican food. I usually go taco Tuesdays and order the crispy chicken and also their crispy potato tacos. Who can beat tasty tacos @$1.25 each? I also love their carne asada burrito, and my son who has a discriminating pallet loooooves their carne asada burritos! They have a nice self serve salsa bar which has a lot of the typical condiments and salsa. I love that they take phone orders (even on the super busy taco Tuesday specials), unlike patty's who won't even pick up the phone. First time to this location. Clean environment. Nice booths. Had one 1/2 booth and 1/2 table. Thumbs up! Safety hazard: Rug inside front door should have non-skid attachment to the floor. Saw a person come in w/ a walker and the rug rolled up and the guy had to kick the rug straight so he could finish walking in. He could have tripped and fallen. The guy that took my order was touching/rubbing his nose when we walked in. Didn't wash his hands after. So not sanitary. Took our order well. We had some changes to a regular order. Minimal wait for the food. Nice salsa bar. Red chunky and green smooth Salsa was excellent. I ordered a veggie burrito, chips, tea. Yummy & big! I'm full! Rice, beans, smooth feta cheese, lettuce, tomato was in the burrito. My brother had a cheeseburger, fries and drink. He said his food was good. Other foods taken to people looked good. Wow. I cannot disagree more with some of the previous reviewers. I came here since I am a local Claremonter. Anywho's, I thought this place was legit. I've seen several Hispanics eating here, so I thought it had street cred. I go in, the owner is there. He seems very proud of the restaurant, and I am happy for him. I'm thinking that my food was going to be great. Wow. I was disappointed. The food was tasteless and just tasted preserved. Anyways, I wish I could go back and see what the other reviewers saw in this place, but I just can't bring myself to go back there once you have a bad experience with the food.
