It's quite a hearty serving, it's meal if you pair it with a small side of fruit or small salad. It's juicy spinach and cheesy. They make the beef ones with hard boiled egg, black olives and raisins, as is best. :D The cheese, and ham and cheese, have a phyllo/croissant-type pastry. The ' pino' which is filled with sautéed ground beef, onion a raisin some hard boiled egg and mostly spiced with cumin is tasty. These are good for later and even rewarded. I've been going here several years now and this place is a weekend comfort food spot. I love the empanadas but my go to dish is the chicken milanesa plate. My spouse is half Chilean so he encourages me to try everything on the menu, including the desserts. I tried papa rellena and honestly I think that dish in general is just ok. Not my cup of tea but at least I know. The two ladies who work there are nice. The only downside is that parking in the shopping area is a little tight. When that happens, I resort to neighborhood parking, but even then there's a lot of parked cars in the neighborhood. Thanks so much for comfort food. Daddy hit a home run with Rincon Chileno! Wednesdays are usually chaos over at our place. Lots going on, dinner's always rushed so when I happened by here on Tuesday and saw empenadas calling my name I was sold. When I discover that I get one free if I buy 6 I knew I'd be a very happy tightwad. When I realize that these delicious little goodies are gonna mean the wife doesn't have to cook and that I'm going to look like a hero I'd hit the jackpot! They filled everyone up for dinner and we still have some left over for a little breakfast. They were awesome, flavorful and crispy and the salsa was a perfect topping. I stopped by Rincon Chileno Deli after having lunch at the nearby El Pollo Inka. It's located in the same small plaza and upon spotting the "Empanadas" sign; I knew I had to stop by. I do enjoy good empanadas and I'm always up for trying a empanada spot out. The place is fairly small inside. They have their display of empanadas along with other pastries right up front. The first thing I noticed was their prices was fairly high. Chicken empanadas are $2.45 plus tax while their Spinach and Cheese was $3.45 (a bit strange since these contain no meat). I also saw their potato balls at around $3.95. Though these potato balls were fairly large; I felt it was bit pricey). I got two chicken empanadas and paid $5. The chicken empanadas are also a little pricey but I must say they were pretty tasty! Ground beef with a little bit of spicy, they were fulfilling and good. They stupidly have two things under "plates" and "sandwiches" under the same name. I wanted a chicken sandwich so I directed my attention to that column on the menu. I order a "breaded chicken" and everyone else I was with also got a sandwich. When my plate came around it was a sad super thinly sliced breaded chicken breast with some fries. That's it. I proceed to tell her "I believe I ordered the breaded sandwich" and she was so quick to argue back "WeLl YoU nEvEr SaId SaNdWiCh!" Which I get, ok, maybe my mistake but you'd think she'd ask then? If they have 4 items under the same name they should really make sure to ask to make sure the customer is getting specifically what they want. "The breaded chicken, do you want the plater or the sandwich?" How was I suppose to know there's also a platter option? I wanted a sandwich, I look under sandwich, and I ordered. Not to mention the platter was like $7+ more than the sandwich I wanted. So based off this and her super quick and sassy response I think this is a common mistake probably done purposely. God my mouth is watering just thinking about the empanadas. This place is out of the way, for sure, but worth every second of the drive. Their family has owned this and the Melrose restaurant for years and my family has been coming here for as long as I can remember! You have to try the cheese AND the beef empanadas. Have them warm them up for you and prepare for a culinary ride through Chile. Super authentic and you have to have an Inca Kola with it. Woot found a spot for legit Chilean Food! They've been around since 1973. Empanadas are huge compared to tiny Argentinian ones. Spinach and cheese empanadas are the tastiest. Yay!! for veggies kicking the butt of the meat ones. The beef empanada had delightful bits of creamy caramelized onions, cooked eggs, raisins and olives mixed in with the beef, but it was the spinach and cheese empanadas that I couldn't stop eating. Really flavorful seasoning of the greens. Cheese is ooozy and melty. Like a hot pocket on steroids. Shop feels intimate. Like you stepped into a little hidden Chilean world with regular customers coming in and out getting their home country fix. Most of the pastries feature dulce de leche. Try the one with squash(no dulce de leche). They also have humita's which is a chilean tamale. It is very different from what we normally would consider a tamale. It's pretty much flavorful corn mush wrapped in a banana leaf. Cute presentation and the taste is unique. The texture takes a bit getting used to. The salsa that accompanies it also have a very unique flavor. They are more tart and herbally than Mexican salsa. A great find for Chilean Food. read more
