Calentado Tipico. Steak was tough and the meal was bland and underwhelming. That avocado looks...?
    Steve O.

With a 4 star rating, I was looking forward to a treat. There were many great reviews so it seemed like it should be a slam dunk. Instead, I jumped and got faked out. My son and I ordered the Calentado Tipico. The skirt steak was tough and the eggs and rice were extremely bland. The avocado had seen better days and the cornmeal biscuit was the only thing with flavor which was salty. My wife and daughter were also not impressed with the Hawaiana arepas (couldn't taste any pineapple) or the chicken empanadas. Maybe it's a different experience if you dine in but our take out was extremely underwhelming. At least we tried it. We can cross this one off the list.

Homey, authentic Colombian spot in Hawthorne. Came here on a Tuesday evening for dinner and got seated immediately. Indoor dining only. Credit cards accepted. They spoke in Spanish but there also pictures on the menu for non-Spanish speakers. The atmosphere felt as though you were invited into someone's home to eat. We split a bandeja paisa which provided a little sampling of everything (blood sausage, asada, and chorizo) plus rice, beans, avocado, and plantains. The portion sizes are very generous and even with two people, we didn't finish everything. It was nice to be able to enjoy a leisurely meal in a family-owned setting.

    Maduros that I don't like

They don't read instructions. I don't eat maduros, they sent a plate full of them when I specifically said under instructions "green plantain only" Foods were not so tasty. Especially the frijoles, it taste like it has been sitting out for days. Go spend your money elsewhere.

Hole in the wall ! Great customer service and it was very clean with nice background music. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The food 10/10 , will definitely come back again!

Delicious food , amazing customer service. Family own business. Best Colombian restaurant in town.

Aw man. This place is only ope 10 AM to 5 PM

I usually have a very hard time getting through to someone to place an order. Today I was able to get through and when I told them I'd like to place two orders they hung up on me. I thought it was a simple mistake, but I tried calling 8 times at different time and I haven't been successful. This place really needs to step up their customer service and attention to their phones. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened to me and last time I even mentioned it to the owner.

Arroz con pollo and spicy homemade sauce

I came here last week on a whim. Was in this plaza to pick something up and I was hungry so we stopped in to grab breakfast. All I can say is WOW. Everything was super fresh and delicious. I ordered the calentado, arroz con pollo, a bunelo and a coffee. The rice and beans for the calentado were perfectly seasoned and the meat was tender and flavorful. The guy working there was the son of the owner and he brought over some homemade spicy sauce that we couldn't stop eating. The arroz con pollo was full of flavor, color and fresh vegetables. It was so homey and it came with a side of french fries. This is weird to say but when I bit into them, they tasted like potatoes - I could tell they had peeled, chopped, and fried them right there. My boyfriend got the sobrebarriga criolla, which was a pulled beef dish in a rich, creamy sauce. We both loved the sauce and it was served with rice and a large piece of avocado. He also ordered a fresh passionfruit juice and you could tell it was made right there. We were so impressed with all the food. The son, Braden, told us this restaurant has been there for a while but his father purchased it about 6 months ago, so I think the menu has changed since before. We will definitely plan to come back! Thanks for an incredible meal!

The food is authentic and full of flavor! I love how quick the service was and how quickly my meal got delivered. The sitting area was small but the customer service is great! If you're craving Colombian food, this is your spot! Amazing quality and quick service!

Pretty nice and quaint spot located in the same plaza as Pep Boys, Colombian Delikatessen is worth the visit. It's menu is not so large but it's food is tasty, homey in my opinion. So what did we have? Bandeja paisa and Calentado with blackberry juice and "lulo" with milk shake (I wouldn't call that juice). Prices are pretty good and service is nice and attentive. They also have some Colombian products to purchase, I bought coffee ( I love coffee) Of course I'll be back if in the area. Recommended!!!

I was introduced to Columbian empanadas by a friend years ago. I used to think they were all the same but these Columbian empanadas are hard to find in my area. This is my go to spot for authentic empanadas. It's a must have when I am around the area .

When you come here, you're made to feel like you're family. The owner, who is originally from Bogota, was very welcoming and kept saying that when we come, we're home. The breakfast dishes we ordered were all delicious, and we'll definitely be back. Just wish that chicken empanadas were available for a non-beef eater like me. The coffee could be a little stronger.

WOW. The fries alone could have been lunch. The yucca was perfectly fried, and they did not skimp on the toppings. WORTH every penny and calorie. The Chicarron was perfectly crispy-fied. Plantano was perfect. Pickled onions were beautifully tart. This could have fed 2 people. Parking. Street and paid lots. The lot next to the Quarter KBbq place is a great deal ($5 all day before 3pm) We came for lunch, and happened upon a World Cup match. The restaurant was pretty dirty and the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. I had to beg a restaurant across the street to use their restroom. But, the food we ordered was mostly really good and the service was very friendly and accommodating. We even had a birthday cake with us and they offered to put it in their fridge for us and didn't charge us any extra for cake plates. We had a large group so we ordered some drinks and the giant sampler platters. Everything on them was really good except the chicken wings and pork belly were a little dry and nothing special. Pretty meh. But I loved everything else. The other thing that I don't personally love is that they have a have DJ playing music and talking as well as large tvs playing sports, so the restaurant is really loud. Like you can't hear the person right next to you. If that's your vibe, then check it out but I felt really overstimulated by the time we were done and couldn't wait to get out of there. I'm glad I got to try Escala but I don't know that I'd seek this place out again, unless it just happened to be convenient. Parking sucks in this area and there are so many amazing restaurants in K-town. I'd rather keep exploring.

I decided to go with here to taste a different part of the world. The dish I selected, is the Banda Paisano Trifeca which is a macro and micronutrient bomb of delicious vegetables, starches, and protein. Apparently many with very hard physically demanding jobs need a "strong meal," and within Columbian Culture this dish was formed. Beautiful story, AND it has blood sausage!!! The place was slammed but got me the first available seat in 10 mins or so, and though we both couldn't communicate beyond the common cordial words and menu semantics, her demeanor and body language was very inviting and courteous. Flavor was spot on as usual. Things I did not enjoy this time: 1. I was charged for 2 chorizos when I had only ordered 1. (Always ask for printed invoice and check before leaving). 2. I was charged $6 for a chorizo that was as long as my thumb. In the past their chorizos were much bigger and cheaper. (Do not order chorizos a la carte). 3. The meat in my "bandeja paisa" was ver fatty. Maybe my negative experience had to do with the fact that the restaurant was about to close.

We ordered the paella mixta, steak fajitas, and potato balls as an appetizer. When the potato balls arrived, they were somewhat cold in the middle, which made it seem like they had not been heated thoroughly. The paella was mushy and bland. The steak had no flavor and all of us needed to add a significant amount of salt. The plantains were delicious and the beans were solid. At the beginning, our waiter was friendly, but the interaction became uncomfortable toward the end. Since we only ordered two main dishes, he provided minimal service and checked in twice. We appreciated he provided plates to share. When we paid, he questioned whether we had enough on our card.
