A friend recommended the empanadas here but we still like Continental Market in Hawthorne better. We tried chicken, beef, and spinach. They're a good size and generously filled, but not very flavorful on their own. Definitely grab some sauce to go with them. We also tried the grilled chicken sandwich, which had soft bread but was otherwise not memorable. It just has mayo, lettuce, and tomato. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and the prices were reasonable. They sell yummy empanadas chicken, beef and spinach. Also tried their sandwiches. Their meat is great quality and the gentlemen was sweet enough to help me carry my food to the car. I'm sad to say I didn't get any photos. Only reason why I give 3 starts was because it was a bit difficult to place order over phone since I do not speak Spanish. We had a HORRIBLE experience today at El Gaucho. We had ordered a big order of empanadas for a funeral reception. The order was to be picked up by us so that we could help the family setup for the funeral. After giving the lady the name for the order they refused to release the order because they said the person who ordered MUST BE the one to pick it up?? How does this make sense? If we have the name for the order, why wouldn't you release the order? You collect the name for a reason. We had the name. So instead, we now have 50 people attending a reception with no food because they wouldn't release the empanadas to us. They wanted the son (the name under the order), who is in mass at the funeral service to leave the service to come pick up the empanadas. Absolutely no kindness or grace. We explained this was for a funeral. We explained that the person who ordered is in mass grieving his father's passing and that we were sent by him with his order name to pick it up. They could not have cared less. Take your business elsewhere to at least a place where there's still some humanity and decency and empathy left. I am appalled at how this was handled and how we were treated. read more

I was also pleasantly surprised by their Mesquite Charcoal. Sometimes I buy these bags at other locations (same brand) and get a lot of small lumps instead of the larger logs. It's a good sized market with a variety or sandwiches and empanadas and more. The service is great and is much faster if you don't come during lunch hour. The people are nice and friendly as well. I would rate it 5 stars but I wish when purchasing different empanadas, they would mark which are which. I had to cut all three different empanadas and check inside. I was giving some to my Mom and wish I didn't have to cut them. Other than that, the market is great with so many items to choose from.
