My go to for breakfast is the "mom knows best" which is pretty much a normal salmon bagel. For lunch the "Monica " panini is my go to, this is a pesto chicken sandwich. Both of them are great. No complaints on the actually quality of the food. I am celiac so having a place this good in my neighborhood is honestly something I'm super grateful about. I love finding 100% gluten free bakeries! And when I do, I am not shy with my order. I found Rise on the Find Me Gluten Free app and went out of my way to work in a stop here during my overnight stay in DC. Parking is tricky around here, so I had my husband drop me off, swing around and pick me back up. The bakery is in a cute little row home type setup. Super clean and quaint when you walk in. No in-dining options at this time. The menu is amazing! So many bakery, dessert and lunch options to choose from. I ordered two grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches for our lunch. Then a bunch of other items to try: cinnamon roll, cheesecake, pumpkin roll and chocolate croissant. The pumpkin roll and cheesecake were my favorites, but everything was very very good. Daughter and I dropped in here to check it out and walked away with two pastries and some challah. They had a nice selection of breads and a small case of pastries both savory and sweet. It was busy even for a Monday afternoon and a number of the frozen breads were already sold out. My DD got the chocolate éclair and I got the Nutella brownie. The chocolate and custard in the éclair were amazing. The shell was very good for a GF version, it was a bit heavier than a G éclair but she was happy. The brownie was fabulous. It had a fudge like consistency a think layer of Nutella and walnuts on top. It was really too rich to eat in one sitting. And yes., I could not help myself and ate the whole darn thing. I did puzzle on why not hazelnuts on top, but the walnuts did help cut the richness. We haven't cut into the challah yet. Hoping up make French toast with that tomorrow. this review is for the service I received today. I ordered the Big Day from the breakfast menu which lists avocado as one of the ingredients. While my sandwich was being made, I noticed the preparer spreading avocado on the sandwich. I then asked which type of avocado came on the sanswich and was told it was a spread. then asked to have sliced avocado instead. the woman making the sandwich didn't appear to understand or looked like she didn't want to change the sandwich. Either way, when I sit down to eat my sandwich I noticed the avocado spread was just wiped off and I had not been given a new bagel. this was interesting to me because I would have paid for a new bagel if needed if I knew the avocado spread would just be wiped off leaving a more soggy bagel. Recently placed an order for vegan chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were dry and hard -- tasted like they had been on the shelf too long. I've had these same cookies here before and remember them being slightly more chewy and less dry. Not sure if they changed the recipe. I also ordered the Belmont which was pretty tasty. It's a vegan and gf sandwich filled with veggies and a savory sauce. If you order the whole, it's basically two small sandwiches wrapped together. The bread was not very good though. For a bakery, you'd think their gluten free and dairy free bread would taste better. I've definitely had better gfdf bread. There aren't a lot of gluten and dairy free options in Dc so I will probably order from them again when I am craving a treat. But they can up their game. read more

It's something special to make your establish completely gluten free! I love being able to choose anything on the menu without fear or second thoughts. I decided on a cinnamon roll. It was so so so good. It was sticky and sugar and fluffy. I couldn't believe it! It tasted a lot like caramel actually. I also snagged a few bites of my friends bagel and that was also amazing. Honestly I was super disappointed with Rise. I thought I was walking into a Gluten Free haven, we got many things to try. We were in Washington DC for an event. I always look for gluten free bakeries when I'm in a new town. Rise Bakery was recommended on Yelp so I gave it a try. 1. the website was well designed and easy to navigate 2. you can order in advance and pick up on a chosen date and time - This was great. When we got to the store there was a line of 8 people. I walked up, got my order and left! 3. In addition to bakery sweets, they offer savory croissants and breakfast sandwiches So far we have tried the breakfast sandwiches, ham & cheese croissants, cinnamon rolls, and peanut butter cookies. The croissants are amazing!! Make sure you order extra! The bagels are tough. This made the breakfast sandwiches hard to eat. It's a shame because the filling was very good - salmon, pickled onions, tomato, and avocado! Maybe get it on one of their buns instead of a bagel. The cinnamon roll was very good. Great cinnamon flavor and not too much icing. The peanut butter cookies are ok. They taste like a cross between a butter cookie and peanut butter - the peanut flavor seems muted. Being gluten free going into a bakery usually sucks! They might have one or two options to choose from; and it's usually a cookie, brownie, or something I can easily make at home. So walking in here for the first time was incredible!! I can eat everything here, everything!!! That hasn't happened to me in about 8 years. Naturally I got a lot of baked goods because I could and I hadn't had some of the goodies in years. Everything I've tried here has been wonderful! I doesn't taste or feel gluten free. Honestly I suggest trying it all, but if you're only getting one or two things definitely get the nutella brownie. I know it's just a brownie, but it's also one of the best brownies- so get it! I don't know how this is possible, I can only assume they have an animal problem because the frozen bagels smell of animal urine. I purchased two bags of bagels and wow. Completely inedible. Must consider that this is a bakery that is focused on accommodating allergy restrictions. This bakery is very wonderful for people who have many different dietary needs and accommodations. I am giving this space three stars because it was lacking in space for people to take time to sit down into the space. There are really only 5-6 seats at most and make room for two people to stand comfortably. Don't plan to stop here for an hour to do anything serious besides grab a snack. In addition to the issue with space for the coffee & blueberry streusel muffin I had were both not my favorite. The coffee itself reminded me of something I'd pick up at the 7-11 (which is fine, but shouldn't be $3) and the muffin really could have used some more moisture. I'm sure this is a great choice for many, but had to make sure I shared my two cents about this place and make it clear who these folks are serving & who they are not. First of all, thank you for providing a gluten-free facility! Had items from Rise delivered to me via DoorDash while I was staying in DC. Just a note for Rise, neither time did the Dasher follow the delivery instructions, so there were definitely delivery issues with both orders, including one order being completely lost. Door Dash refused to do anything to help me about it. So if you're ordering via Door Dash, just know that as a heads up. The food itself is amazing. The gluten-free biscuit is probably the best gluten-free biscuit I've ever had. I also ordered scones, a cupcake, croissant, and the brioche. Super tasty, gluten-free goods. BF and I came in on Easter morning to pick up croissants and other goodies for Easter brunch. We had called in advance to check if they were open, since they were only about a 5 minute walk from our hotel. We picked up 5 of each croissant - chocolate, plain, and ham & cheese. I tried all of them and I think the ham & cheese was the best. I would suggest heating them up before eating because they do get kind of stiff. Don't come here unless you want food poisoning I could already tell something was up when I walked in and smelt extreme cleaning and chlorine products. Rise Bakery is a brand new gluten free bakery in Adams Morgan which got my attention because they have gluten free bagels. I was thrilled to learn of a place that might have some gluten free items that might not taste, well, gluten free. After a short visit, I tried the bagels (they offer cinnamon raisin, sesame and plain) and a cinnamon roll to go. The line was a bit long and my wait for my order was upwards of 20 minutes, but I understand the place is just opening, the staff was apologetic and friendly, and I had twenty minutes to kill before the boutiques opened. When I got my pretty blue take out bag, my first thought was "dear lord, this bag is heavy", if there is one thing gluten free products are known for it is density, but this was abnormally heavy. So I decided to weigh each bagel on a scale (not a drug dealer, I live with a food geek/amateur chef), once again: FOR SCIENCE. The bagel weighed 181 grams, which is .40 lbs or 6.3 ounces. In the world of bagels, this a plus size model. The calorie count of a bagel is based on the weight and the calorie counting apps and links I could find stopped at a large bagel weighing 4 oz having 320 calories ( because no one in the history of man has been recorded eating a bagel this HEAVY so there is no data). If my math is right, this bagel is in the 500-600 calorie range. As far as taste goes, yes the sesame and plain were heavy and bland (very little salt), and almost "mealy" or "grainy" if that makes sense. If you are a life long celiac or someone raised by anti wheat hippie parents and did not know that a bagel should taste light, puffy,with a crisp crust and slightly tangy then you will enjoy these hockey puck scones. The rest of us who had a delicious wheat filled bagel grace our lips will know better. I am also confused that their facebook page has rave reviews saying the bagels taste like pretzels, and the pictures of the bagels look very different from what I got. I should make this clear since other reviewers were pointing out the "obnoxious" three star review: it's not about the bagel's weight: the fresh bagel was inedible. Something that dense is hard to bite into and chew. I did not make it past two bites.The leftovers bagels were rock hard the next day, so they consider that when taking out. The cinnamon roll was shockingly A-OK. It had a better hole structure than the bagel, and I am not sure if cinnamon rolls have holes. The roll had great icing and wasn't as dense as I was expecting after the bagels. I would come back for the cinnamon roll. Pastries are the way to go here and they offer several including danishes, cookies, cupcakes, etc. The bakery itself is cute, upstairs from a hookah place, with a few tables inside for patrons, and a freezer of take home loaves. I haven't been lifting much at the gym so I am kinda glad I opted for my three items, rather than try to haul a bag of heavy frozen bagels home. I hope this bakery can perfect their bagel recipe and consider other forms of non gluttonous flour to create a better bagel. Until then, I may stop in only for pastries, or consider their baguettes. read more

Here's my condensed list of reviews: The brioche bread is very good, but the slices are very small...even for the usually small gf bread world. The everything bagels I bought were stale when I purchased them and were also very small. Their pumpkin roll is the best I've ever had. The chocolate eclair was tasty for being gluten-free, but not life changing. The chocolate chip cookies are delicious. Finally, I've ordered one of their sandwiches which was flavorful. but the bread fell apart in my hands. Ok, so the four stars for this place is based solely on their chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake. The rest of everything I've eaten here was terrible. BUTTTTT the chocolate chip cookies are the BEST gluten free dairy free cookies I've ever eaten from anywhere ever (including all the GF DF bakeries in NYC & DC). This place is great for gluten-free peeps! There's a lot of bread and baked goods available for purchase. As a vegan, my options were a bit more limited, but I did appreciate that options existed! I ordered a vegan carrot cupcake, which was pretty dry and flaky. I'm guessing that it's difficult to make a cupcake that's both gluten-free and vegan, though, so I really have to give them some credit!
