Rising Star was recommended to me by a regular, and I'm so glad I took his suggestion. The shop itself is adorable and welcoming, with plenty of drink options and fun specialty choices. I played it safe with an iced vanilla bean latte, while my sister went for the lavender oat milk latte, both were excellent. The espresso was incredibly smooth, honestly one of the smoothest I've ever had. The flavoring complemented the coffee without overpowering it, which I really appreciated. After ordering, there's a separate seating area where you can relax or get some work done. I loved that it's away from the ordering counter, so you're not distracted by the constant hustle and bustle. The staff were friendly, even though I didn't interact with them much beyond ordering, but they clearly know how to make a damn good cup of coffee.

I'm not sure what all the hubbub labor issues were about this summer, but I just met some of the nicest people in the coffee business! Came in on a Wednesday morning because I wanted to see if the place had turned to shit and if the hired help was resentful in having the privilege of a job. The gentleman that took my order was very nice, smiled and quick to serve. The two woman doing the barista thing were laughing, moving to the beat of the music, and genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves. The patrons acted as if nothing ever happened. Oh, and the coffee was good :-) Glad I came in and will be happy to support ownership in the future!

My 100th YELP REVIEW of the year!! Is there an award? LOL. I was supposed to write this review in early August 2024 but here we are at the end of September...haha. It's never too late for a Yelp review though. I visited Rising Star Coffee shop for the first time in July 2024 with a friend after church. I went to the Madison Ave. location in Lakewood. I don't drink or like coffee so I won't comment on that. I will say though that alot of locals do love Rising Star. MATCHA -- I don't drink coffee so I ordered a small Matcha drink (cold). The matcha tasted just okay but I remember it being either slightly sweet or not sweet at all. I normally ask what sweeteners go in a drink but for some reason I didn't. I do believe that the Matcha was made without dairy milk though which is what I prefer. I drank the drink slowly as I sat outside with my friend and I didn't finish it. It wasn't a bad drink and I love Matcha but this one didn't leave me "WOWed" so to speak. My friend ordered a cup of coffee but I don't remember the kind. He also got a chocolate chip cake or bread (it looked like banana bread but it was chocolate chip flavour). I had a small taste of his chocolate chip cake and it was good. If I'm in the area again and I need a drink, I may stop in to try a non-coffee drink. However, I do have my favourite spots in town for Matcha such as Lekko Coffee and Goodkind Coffee. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 100/150 total reviews in 2024 - 749 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 29 September 2024

This place hit the spot on a cold day. Great friendly staff. Clean facility. The espresso was smooth and tasty. We had the last one of the scones with a preserve. The scone pair with our espresso delights were amazing. We can't wait to go back and try some more!

This location was super close to our airbnb so we stoped over for breakfast. Loved that they had vegan and gluten free pastries in the case. We opted for a Cranberry scone, raspberry pastry and 2 iced coffee. The scone was so so good. Would absolutely go back just to pick one of those up.

The drinks 10/10 I've never been disappointed! The classics always a win and j live what they come up with for their seasonal flavors! the workers are always cheery and greet us with a smile, and they keep the dining area spic and span! I've never had a bad experience and I have been coming here for years! It's a great place to chat with a friend or get some hardcore work done. A place for all and a welcoming environment!

Parking in the back. Quick friendly service. Delicious coffee as always. Great study spot.

Where do I start? One of my favorite places in the world. I used to live within walking distance and now I travel from Texas to spend time here. Cozy, beautiful, great drinks and food. I have loved getting to know the baristas over my years here. I used to come here to read or study in the mornings before work. Now I work remote from here when I'm in town. They know how to roast beans and they know how to make coffee drinks. So many options, from multiple espresso choices, to pour over, to aero-press to a delightful Vietnamese coffee. I always bring a bag of beans home to TX with me. A few can't miss items: Anything with their homemade lavender syrup, star tea, Floressa's vegan banana bread, eggnog cappuccino with Hartzler eggnog during the holidays.

Summary: a small cafe in town with big tastes and awesome staff! They roast their own coffee beans. Their coffee is amazing and you can buy their coffee beans/grounds to enjoy at home! Stopped in town for a night and discovered this awesome coffee shop. Stopped in the next morning to try out what all the hype is about and they did not disappoint. Apparently they roast their own coffee beans and they're pretty well known across the country! I had bought a bag home and when I had guests over, they recognized the brand! During our visit, we even got a short tutorial of how to do the perfect pour over. My husband ordered 2 cups of coffee that morning because it was THAT good! Highly recommend if you're a coffee person!

All-around solid, vanilla latte and espresso was good, no complaints. Lakewood just has so many other options, the bar is high.

The mochas and cardamom bomb made using the AeroPress are exceptional, though I wish they had a real espresso machine.

Pro Tip: Visit to get a pic by their cool Lakewood mural inside the store…read more Walking into Burning River Coffee was a bit like stumbling into a local secret - a combo of smoke shop and coffee shop. The front is unassuming, and this combo isn't something you see every day, but somehow, it works... or at least, it's interesting enough to give it a shot. I visited the coffee shop side while working nearby (walking distance) at the co-working center (Icon Cowork). I ordered the red eye. Honestly? It delivered. It wired me for days. It was extremely strong and not well crafted (too much, definitely not barista made). But boy did it do its job. While at the coffee shop, I noticed a small menu of other drinks and no baked goods in the case. It just really had the basics. Service was very quick. The barista (who worked both sides of the house) was nice enough, but the vibe was more transactional than inviting. Not rude, just kind of indifferent. The space had enough tables to sit at and very quiet atmosphere. One thing I couldn't ignore was the scent of vape juice hanging in the air. It didn't bother me personally, but I can see how that could be a turn-off if you're expecting more of a traditional coffee shop aesthetic. Of note is that both sides of the business have the same entrance. They're working on dividing the space into two separate ones according to my quick chat with the employee. Currently the coffee shop has no age restrictions while the smoke shop is 21+. Overall? Burning River Coffee is quirky and good for a simple cup of coffee. It's not a textbook coffee shop experience -- it's its own thing. Just don't expect the usual indie-coffeehouse playlist and aesthetic. Expect something unexpected and different.

Another "don't judge a book by its cover" review. It is more of a coffee bar inside a vape shop,…read morethan it is an actual coffee shop. The location is great to walk to neighborhood shops and restaurants in Lakewood. The friendly staffer really worked her latte magic! She said she always adds a little bit of vanilla to punch up the flavors of the lattes. The coffees were so good. I also appreciated that they used lots of ice....perfectly cold and creamy. The baked goods looked nothing like the pictures on Yelp, but they did have several vegan and gf options. This morning they also had fresh cinnamon rolls.

While we were enjoying our coffee a gentleman came in and drew an amazing drawing on their chalkboard commemorating Women's History Month. The decor is cute and seating is comfortable. Visiting Savor the Moment was a great way to start the day.

I liked that there was a mix of tables and counter seating. We had an egg and bacon sandwich on a croissant. There were a few bread and meat options to pick from. Solid and reasonably priced. I'm snobby about coffee and tend to avoid my standard drip when the menu features flavored roasts so I went big and got a peanut butter mocha. It was dessert in the morning and it was delicious. There are lots of items for sale. I bought a possum and spaceship mounted to a small geode. I can almost certainly say it was one-of-a-kind. Anyway, loved the experience and will be back.
