This rating is based solely on the ice cream that they sell there. We don't have Rite Aids in Hawaii but it kind of reminded me of a CVS or a Walgreens store. The only difference was that they had fresh ice cream ready to serve. My husband kept talking about their ice cream and saying how it was so good. So his parents took us there after we ate dinner. There were about 10 flavors available to choose from. My husband had the chocolate malt crunch, I had the strawberry, my mother in law had the pistachio, and my father in law had cherry. The ice cream was so hard. The lady who was helping us had such a hard time getting the ice cream out of the container. It was so hard that the ice cream wasn't even coming out in those nice ice cream scoops. It was more like flat ice cream. I got the cup so it didn't look that weird but everyone else got the cone and it looked weird. My strawberry ice cream was okay. It didn't taste like real strawberries in there. I didn't care for the ice cream. I also tried my husband's one. It was way better than mine. It had a nice crunch to it. It had those movie theatre malt balls in it. The ice cream was pretty cheap, $1.99 for one scoop. You go to other places and it's double that price. I think if we go back there I would definitely get the chocolate malt ice cream instead. read more

beware of the rite aids in San Jose and around. I used rite aid for several years in Santa Cruz with no issue. when I lived here i switched my prescriptions to this rite aid. one of the prescriptions got lost and thier only option was for me to have it re prescribed, which would cost me $200 out of pocket to see that doctor. they had no way of finding the prescription again. my remaining prescriptiona were sent to multiple locations and they were unable to tell me which location in the courtesy reminders or when I called. Earlier today, I went to Rite Aid and grabbed two Rock Star energy drinks from the refrigerator case. It was clearly marked as 2 for $3.00. I went to the register, and it rang up as 2 for $3.50. I told the cashier that the shelf was marked 2 for $3.00. She looked me straight in the eye and said, "The five must look like a zero. They are 2 for $3.50." That was one of the most ridiculous things I had ever heard. Not, "Here, let me correct that," or even "Let me go check the shelf," but she simply told me I was mistaken. I left without purchasing. I got some groceries at other stores in the shopping center (Foothill Produce and Trader Joe's). While doing so, I realized, this is my neighborhood store, and I should really let the manager know so that service could improve. When I was ready to leave, I went back and took a picture of the price on the shelf... clearly 2 for $3.00, not 2 for $3.50. Then I went to the front and asked to speak to the manager. The cashier told me she was the manager. I asked for her name, she told me. I didn't have a pen and paper, so I went to take a picture of her name tag, not her face, just her name tag. She put her hand over the name tag, and said I could not take a picture of her name tag, she had told me her name, and I could write it down. This is all unacceptable behavior for a cashier, beyond the pale for a manager. I hope this behavior can be remedied quickly. read more

I had two prescriptions authorized by my doctor. I understand ambien is a controlled substance and the pharmacy can't just hand it out. As I previously mentioned, my doctor had increased my dose of ambien as well as another medication. I was told by the pharmacist that she could not fill either prescription, one due to the controlled substance laws and one due to the fact that my insurance wouldn't cover the cost for 4 more days. I was extremely frustrated and had to ask her if I could pay out of pocket for the meds my insurance wasn't going to cover. She then asked me if I wanted her to call my psychiatrist and get the meds authorized. So basically, she was asking me if she should do her job. I replied yes. I reached out to the doctor and he sorted things out on the phone. She also told me that she had a lot of other people waiting. That wasn't my problem. My problem was that someone working in a retail store wouldn't help me and was denying me the meds prescribed. I understand her job isn't easy but I'm not well. I need my meds. On top of that, I was made to feel like I was wasting her time and also trying to pull one over on the system. I understand the regulations but this situation wasn't handled correctly. So yes, call the doctor. Do the job you're paid to do. She told me she was 'just doing her job'. Well, I feel like I had to force her to do her job. Authorize my meds from the specialist who prescribed them to me for my health. And stop being rude to paying customers who need your help. You weren't helpful, lady. On top of all this...your average customer is 80 years old at this location. Don't alienate someone younger or your customer base will be gone. I was worried with all your closures that the Los Altos store would close. Now I say go right ahead. I'll argue with a different pharmacist at a different chain next time.  Products used: I used the meds the doctor told the pharmacy to give me. This is my fav Rite Aid. I used to be a Long's Drugs person since my mom was a Long's person. Then I was a Walgreen's person since there was one near my old workplace. Now I'm a Rite Aid person b/c of their rebate programs (spend $100 and get $10 certificate, that sort of thing) and they are my main pharmacy. Jay is really nice and always remembers his customers by name. He has my prescription ready when he sees me in line while's he's waiting for the customer he's helping to pay or something. I really appreciate that. He is also always pleasant. Can't beat the deal on lavender Epsom salts when they are on sale. Also, the cashiers up front are very nice. The store is not very busy at any time so you almost never stand in line. There is always plenty of parking. And I like their sunscreen stand near the entrance. It always reminds me when I have to buy more sunscreen. read more

**GOOD DISCOUNTS AT RITE AID** I've been a Walgreens loyalist for most of my pre and post college days, but since this Rite Aid was in my hood, I had to stop by. To my surprise, there were BUY 1 GET THE SECOND 1/2 half sales throughout the store. I stocked up on my goodies and saved a bundle. There was no such thing as *customer service* here. No one asked me if I needed help, no one greeted me at the door, and luckily, there were no lines at the check-out (because only one cash register was open). It was worth my while to stop by. Rite aid is one of the best drugstores . I'm having hard time getting my medication due to shortage of said medication . Pharmacy staff ( Laurel shopping center in San Mateo)went of her way , called several rite aid stores just to find out if certain medication is available . She spend lots of time on the phone to locate the store that might have my medication in stock . This shows how much rite aid staff cared about customers/ patients. The staff truly cared about the importance of my medication and health . Also Rite aid sends text messages as soon as medications are ready unlike CVS pharmacy that has worst service . This is mostly about the pharmacy. I know a pharmacy staff member a bit, he attends our College. The staff there is really good, very helpful, and I've never had an issue with a prescription. Sometimes they can be a little slow to answer the phone, but they have called back on a voicemail. I've been getting vaccinations there recently, flu, shingles, and soon COVID booster. Very short wait, then a quick and mostly painless jab. This location is very convenient for me, next to a TJs, one-stop parking. Highly suggest you consider getting your vaccinations at a pharmacy, much easier than going to a doctor's office! -rdc read more

Rite Aid and I don't have the best relationship. I mean I've worked in retail and I'm just wondering at what point on the retail "food chain of stores" does one decide to stop giving a damn? You know where the clerk in front of you in a name tag has by the looks of things mentally checked out the second they got there? Overall, as a chain its been a mixed bag and the staff here is no exception. Sometimes, the service is fantastic, sometimes its inexcusably slow. But here are some happy twists about this particular Rite Aid: a) well stocked shelves even after the ad circular comes out. FYI, as a chain, Rite Aid can carry some of the lowest prices when it comes to beer and liquor. They usually have some great sale going on after holidays or on kid's items. b) They take manufacture's coupons for everything, including cigarettes and alcohol. c) This location has a healthy selection in the "martial aids" aisle. Entertaining to say the least. d) They have a Thrifty Ice Cream counter! Yes, starting at $1.15 you too can get a small circular plop of ice cream like chocolate chip, rainbow sherbert or some other flavor sitting upon the familiar half crunchy-half sweet communion wafer stale cone. To my knowledge, Jamie is still the Pharmacy Manager, and she is a real professional. Most of the staff are responsive and helpful. I've had some issues with a person there lately...MORE THAN ONCE. My MD tells me a new prescription was phoned in. I wait for the usual, prompt, text and call from the store do confirm the Rx is ready. Crickets. 3-4 days later I call RiteAid to check. The clerk/associate claimed my birthdate was given wrong, so the Rx was not processed. I asked if she/they communicated that with the MD...or even me. No. Well then, how are we supposed to know there is an issue, I asked in an even voice? No response. So I am left to contact my MD to ensure she got my DOB right on the Rx request...once I call RiteAid to find out there is a problem? Yes. Ultimately, I capitulate...without a nasty tone. The RiteAid person hangs up without so much as a, "Bye." My MD verifies that she DID give my correct DOB to RiteAid, and she adds, "Welcome to my world." She submits the Rx request again...same information. Success...but with some delay and agro. After 20+ years working with this RiteAid, I'm considering moving to Walgreens. Some other family members have already done that. read more

Drugs, condoms, hair products, toys, you name it pass through these registers. Sometimes with people who you'd least expect to be buying them. I live really close to this Rite Aid -- and this drugstore is sort of... great! The pharmacy is awesome, can have Rx's ready asap and often remember who you are! This store is extremely self sufficient -- in one place you can get light bulbs, kitty litter, CD-R's, Windex, OTC meds, Thrifty ice cream (Medieval Madness is the best!) and if the night is right... some alcohol (and mixers!). I don't really want to give away this secret, but... every once in a while they have a crazy discount on Belvedere or Grey Goose Vodka -- how random, but awesome is that? Two days ago I gave a one star review for the web-site of Rite Aid for getting the flu shot. Today I went in without an appointment, as I couldn't get one on the web-site. Because I am over 65 I was able to get one with a very little wait and no appointment. Because they are also taking Kaiser patients they were forced to restrict flu shots to medicare patients. So all went well and the staff was very efficient and pleasant. Even got a coupon for an ice cream cone. read more

I don't usually review random places like rite aid, but I have to give this place its props. I come here writing this review for one reason, and one reason only. The old man with the long mustache at the front counter (the guy that kind of looks like a cowboy) is so friggin nice and courteous. He is so thoughtful and really goes out of his way to see how your day is going, etc. Drugstores/pharmacies don't usually get this kind of outstanding service but I hope this guy gets a pay raise someday because he deserves it. the only reason i gave it 4 stars is because the reward program is not that great compared to cvs. I shop at rite aid all the time since i live so close, and i only very rarely get discounts. but i feel like with cvs, i get a 20% off or 30% off coupon through e-mail at least once a week which is always really useful. read more

Large Rite-Aid store that is newly remodeled. There's barely ever a line so service at the cashier is quick. They added in a thrifty ice cream bar, which is nice. I love the photo center. Bring a USB stick or any type of memory card and you can print there instantly. I was very impressed at how quickly the photos come out. Regular 4x6 prints are yonly 29 cents each. From my one pharmacy experience, the staff is friendly and helpful. I'll keep coming back when I'm in the area. read more

Went to get vaccines at the pharmacy. The staff was incredibly patient and went above and beyond to contact my insurance company to process the vaccinations. It DID take hours but they were persistent and actually called me back when they got through to insurance and had everything processed. The pharmacist, Jamie, is amazing, smart, kind and persistent. A young intern gave me my vaccines and Jamie supervised. He did a great job, too! I will continue to go back to this Rite Aid whenever I need a shot. read more

In particular a young man Jay who must have eidetic memory as i've seen him address every customer by name and has their orders before they get to the counter. I've been coming to this pharmacy for 9 years. Wonderful place, wonderful friendly staff. It's been pretty much the same staff the whole time. Pharmacists immediately know who I am. If I ever have trouble finding something, it's easy to find an attendant. They're always willing to drop whatever they're doing to help me. If the checkout line gets more than 3 people long, they quickly open/staff up a new register. I've witnessed older customers, who have unfortunately become quite cranky and ornery in their old age, get really rude to the staff at the pharmacy -- to the point of being verbally abusive. The staff never "loses it". They nod and smile, and speak to the customer very patiently and politely. I think staff like this qualify for near sainthood. There are hard-working, good people here, and I appreciate them very much. I should say that, unlike Betty N, I don't expect to be "greeted at the door". I believe that level of customer service went by the wayside decades ago. As mentioned above, I've been coming here for 9 years, and never once have they lost a prescription of mine. I do agree that parking during "busy hours" (lunchtime, ~3pm) can be a real problem, due to recent addition of Starbucks, Trader Joe's, etc. Finally, I want to comment about the cashier with the long white hair. One reviewer felt that he's rude. I disagree. I feel he's just very, very introverted, possibly even mildly autistic. He doesn't interact with people in your "typical" way - he's not a talker. But he is not rude. In fact, he can be almost overly polite. When he is done ringing me up, he ALWAYS tells me to "take care" and literally gives me a slight bow of respect. If anything, he is MORE polite to me than 99% of the people I run into out there in public. My instincts tell me he is a good person, who really is trying hard. read more

I have been a long time client at Rite Aid. I always get above and beyond service. I been coming to this pharmacy for last 10 plus years. I don't understand people who wrote negative review. I always get great service because I am very compassionate person. I never worked in retail or restaurants. I can't even imagine how hard they must work. I think lots of people are very needy and short temper they want things yesterday. Why mistreat people who give us service. and why treat them poorly? I think people should check with there inner self before they speak. I get great service everywhere I go. I treat people with respect and get treated very well. If someone is having a hard time at work I try to make them happy. I been to some place and they are try to juggle so many people I try my best to be easy client instead of being needy. The Mountain View Rite Aid location closed, so I thought that I would give this location a try, since it is not that much further than the Mountain View store was. I found the Pharmacy staff to be incredibly inefficient and lacking in customer service. Twice my Dr. faxed in prescription fill requests to this pharmacy and twice they claim they didn't get them. They didn't offer to try and track them down, call the Dr., nothing. I was just out of luck, and on my own to get it all straightened out. I won't be going back. read more

Jay at the pharmacy was EXTREMELY rude and passive-aggressive to both us and the customer before us. Upon mentioning that she forgot her phone with the confirmation text message and politely asking for help with the confusion, he sassily suggested that she "come back once she found her phone". The customer before us had forgotten her card, and he held one up condescendingly and waved it in her face, "THIS is what you need. EVERY time!" I was offended and shocked at his unnecessary rudeness when faced with relatively simple questions when the rest of the staff was very kind. read more
