I've been a HUGE fan of Rito's (Garfield location, specifically) for MANY years. I've often voted it as Best of Phoenix and have always told family and friends from out of town that IT IS A MUST! Today is the first time I've been disappointed. We immediately noticed the different tortillas used for the burritos. NOT GOOD, my Rito's peeps. Perhaps you're experimenting with a different brand? Smallest carne asada burrito I've had anywhere in Phoenix those are 11 1/2 inch tiles on the table so this thing is approximately 6 to 7 inches long not very big around either considering this thing cost close to $30. You would think it would be twice the size that it is.The other places very close by are double this size and almost half the price. I'll also add that they sent it with absolutely nothing else. No hot sauce or salsa whatsoever. This is a first for me with any Mexican place and they also did not put the extra lettuce on the burrito. I had to do that myself .With that being said, the meat was absolutely delicious full of flavor and the tortilla held together well however, for the amount of money spent, the amount of food was sad and the lack of salsa was even more sad. Checked out Rito's for the first time and overall had a nice time! The outdoor patio is super cute and perfect for a chill evening out. We tried both the margarita and the Paloma--both were a little too syrupy/sweet for our taste, but nothing that totally ruined the vibe. On the flip side, the chips and salsa were awesome. Loved the smoky flavor of one, and the other was chunky with these big slices of tomato and pepper--super fresh and flavorful. Would definitely come back to try more of the food. We ordered online for pickup during our lunch hour. The parking lot actually has room to park. There are a lot of places in this area. We arrived and were told to wait a few minutes for our order. While we were waiting some other people showed up so they were clearly getting the lunch rush started. I ordered a green chili chimichanga. I love guacamole, so I smothered it on with the addition of some sour cream that I had at home. This was definitely filling for a lunch. I ordered lunch to go so when I turned up to pick the food up, I saw that the pick-up window was closed. I walked into the nicely air-conditioned restaurant and was told that I could wait at the bar. Water was offered to me and the food arrived within a couple of minutes. I drove home and enjoyed a wonderful spicy burrito with beans and rice. Came here with colleagues hoping the food would be great since one of the individuals knows the ownership of family members. I normally order chicken enchiladas with green sauce which in most cases the center of the plate presentation is not drowning in sauce which was the case. Was hoping they offered a healthier alternative to the refried pinto beans. Chips were really fresh and to my liking and the salsa at first glance look like Pace Picante sauce which was not the case but it was nothing memorable. 3 Stars for the Mesa location for Rito's. I've been eating Rito's off of 14th St FOREVER. I hate seeing mom and pop places expand. (Only for obvious reasons, I do like seeing all people succeed in life) That location was and is the best of all locations. They were always busy and never had a slow moment during business hours. Prices were low, staff was amazing, word of mouth had everyone coming from all over. Once they expand, especially into a big newer building and having many more people to staff prices go way up. $13 for a green chili burrito and then $6 to add rice and beans is very expensive for most people. Add $7 for "enchilada style" or get a chimichanga and it's a meal that should be served with white gloves. I get that the cost of business has increased over the years but somehow it's gotten out of control. This location is very hit or miss. Some days you'll stand in the lobby forever waiting on someone to seat you and then wait just as long for someone to come over and take a drink order. The food quality itself is still pretty good. My last visit everything was great. I would just like to see a little bit more consistency across the board here. read more

What happened to my fav taco shop? Quality of ingredients terrible. Last six visits consistently bad. Taco shells chips salsa no longer tasty or good quality. My husbands favorite Mexican food...at the south phoenix location. How does a burrito enchilada style ala carte cost over $20. It's not big enough to feed two...it's just a burrito! Was it good? Yes. But not that good. Staffed with young girls who stood around on their phone leaving us at the door to be seated for a ridiculously long time. After being seated again waited a crazy long time to be served. We were 2 of 6 people in the whole place. If you want to charge the prices you do...step up the service. 6/29/24: OMG, was Rito's good! They won the trifecta: superb service, delightful decor, fantastic food. If you have not tried Rito's Crown location, you are missing out on mighty fine food. Long version: we wanted decent Mexican food for lunch and we definitely had that at Rito's. Off the bat, there is a large parking lot to the east of the complex. We arrived around 2:30 or so and there was also plenty of street parking. Could be a totally different story for dinnertime. It is not a huge restaurant but it is well designed on the inside (seating and decor), plus they have a nice sized patio on the west side of the building. The picture shows umbrellas; I did not notice misters. Needless to say, we opted to sit indoors to escape the heat. Chips & salsa were deposited onto the table within seconds of being seated, shortly followed by water. Bonus: they did not bring straws with the water. I did get one with the horchata, EXTRA BONUS: it was compostable! That's a great thing in my mind. The horchata? Some of the best I have had, and I have had it from many different restaurants because I love it. Our server, Missy, was pulling double duty as the bartender. Amazing. Not only was she funny and polite, but she did not even have to write down our order; kept it all in her head -- and did not screw it up. She absolutely deserved the 20% tip. The other servers were also punctual with water refills and clearing off our plates; I wonder if they receive a portion of the tip ... ? This complimentary chips were thick & crispy (they paired well w/ my side of beans). We ordered quite a bit because we wanted leftovers for dinner. The crispy beef and crispy chicken tacos were great (although I did nab some of my sisters sour cream to dab on them), and the side of beans were so good. My sister's three way burrito was huge and well seasoned. If you see her plate there is hardly any room left on it, thanks to the heaping sides of beans and rice. I came here with some friends for a work lunch. I had been told about how this was some sort of "legendary" place, so I was surprised to see that it was some generic place that could be replaced with a juice bar without changing the decor. But then I was totally shocked that there was NOTHING vegetarian on the menu other than (and I quote the server) "folded cheese thing" (she meant a quesadilla). And to be honest, I do wonder if the tortilla was actually vegetarian, but the server was not really interested in finding out. (Service could be better.) It is weird that the menu on the surface seems to have things that could be vegetarian. For example, they make cheese enchiladas, but nowhere do they label them as non-vegetarian. Why would you even bother to eat cheese enchiladas if you also ate meat? I get people do not need to cater, but it's 2024. There are enough vegetarians to have some options on your menu - or be more forward about it. I had to ask the server to find out the things that seemed veg were not. I could understand a small hole-in-the-wall somewhere, but this was as far from a hole-in-the-wall as one might get. My colleagues seemed satisfied with their meals, but I had a pretty boring quesadilla and had to pay extra for anything to put on it (guac, sour cream). Oddly, the salsa wasn't even very flavorful. It was mild enough my mom (who thinks Taco Bell is spicy) could have eaten it. All in all, it was just a meh experience for me. read more
