Was anxious to try the place after seeing some positive reviews and it is close to home, but was really let down. The service was extremely slow, and some of the food was lukewarm at best when served and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Only two of the dinners out of our party of 7 were decent. Had to wave the waiter down to get drink refills. They never once checked in with us other than the initial order and the delivery of the food, then the check. A couple of tables seated after us got their food before we were even finishing our order. Several people were standing at the door waiting to be seated, and there were open tables. The only positives to give it any stars was the Margaritas and the guacamole prepared table side. Don't think we'll be back again. read more

Let me start by saying, This food is a poor, poor attempt at Mexican food! Reading other reviews can only mean, these people have never eaten at a good Mexican restaurant. We've been living in the area for about 11 years and have been waiting for a good Mexican restaurant to come to the area. When Rito's opened we were excited. I went in during lunchtime and ordered 3 Carne Asada tacos that I would rate a 3. I think they were pretty much, meat that had been re-heated on the grill, thrown on a flour tortilla, microwaved, lettuce, tomato, done. Nothing special, how about some cilantro, onion, salsa. OK so lately we've been hearing people rave about their Margarita nights and how good the food is. It's father's day so instead of traveling to our Favorite Mexican restaurant, "Tecalitlan at 1814 W. Chicago Ave, in Chicago",( a Wicker Park 5 star) we decided to give Rito's another try. OMG. $50 bucks down the drain and we left barely eating the food. We ordered the Carne Asada(steak) Burrito Sabroso (queso melted on top). My take on the meal. Whoever said the salsa was great obviously never had gd salsa, this stuff was like water w chiles to make it hot, where was the seasoning. I specifically asked the waiter to chop the meat small to avoid big chucks of tough steak. There were several chucks of grisly tough steak in my burrito and also in my wife's(very common when cooking shirt steak that hasn't been marinated). When I cut into the burrito the bottom of the tortilla was cold, apparently "microwaving" it to melt the cheese didn't warm the bottom. The steak lacked flavor. I have done better at Pepe's. As for the rice, cold, flavorless. The refried beans had to be from a can, disguised with sprinkles of queso on top, for that authentic look, it didn't work. I know refried beans, I make my own at home w chorizo and these were not authentic, not a trace of pinto bean just mush. I told my wife, who also thought the same about her dish, "you know what this means", She looked at me and said, yeah, "we'll be going to the city to our favorite spot to kill our burrito craving. One note to the cook, "don't roll the food in a cold tortilla then microwave it to heat it, use the flat top grill, heat the tortilla, add the ingredients, then roll, sealing it on the griddle, then serve". I did see people downing the huge Margarita's, so maybe that's the draw, for people who like to drink. I personally go to a restaurant for food. All good food doesn't have to be in the city, this area is a gold mine for someone who can cook great food. read more

Love this place, problably the best Mexican restaurant I've been in the western suburbs. Rito's meat Molcajete is to die for, it comes with Chorizo, grilled marinated Beef, Chicken and melted cheese. GREAT margaritas--and if you want a LARGE one, they're huge. I always get the Blue Flaming Margarita--not too acidic and will kick my ass. The food is excellent as well with some really good mole and the Queso Fundido is to die for. The one hit on this place is that it's typically REALLY busy and as a result, can be slow--usually a wait for a table and then the service is slow. As often as they're busy, I would think they would get a few more staff members hired to get diners through quicker. However, we always have fun and drink the margaritas so the wait typically isn't an issue. Love this place. read more

The best Mexican food I've had in a long time.The food was amazing. The salsa was very flavorful. ( mild & hot).Both of our meals were big in portions. ( doggie bags to go) .And tasted amazing. The $5 margarita specials on Thursday (and the table side guac) make this the place to go in the suburbs on a Thursday. The food is good and the atmosphere is great. Let me start off by saying we have loved Rito's in the past. Today was the first time that we ordered for pick up during this pandemic. I called in the order and told them my son will come into pick it up and pay. He was treated so rude when he came to pick up our order. He waited at the pick up place for 10 minutes and was never acknowledged. Another older man stood behind him and the server asked to help him first. The other man said, this young gentleman was here first and the server disregarded him and seated the other man. My son is 16 and polite and never said anything and even gave a tip on the bill. (I told him that he should not do that with rude service-however I always told him to tip.) I am just appalled at this type of behavior toward a young person. During non-pandemic times this was always a place that we would go and even celebrate birthday's there - but no more. So disgusted at this type of behavior- will support other local businesses but not Rito's. read more

Was there on May 24th with daughter at 3 20pm I normally just get small items to go mainly chips and.salsa! This was.about 9th or 10th visit and is the last!! Normally the place.charges 5 dollars.for chips and salsa and 1.50 or so for extra The Manager was.so rude never said hi and and.thank you after charging me 9.85. I told.him last time I was here you charged me 5 .50 and he said it was not me lol and I said.it was you so I said.I dont have time.to argue and then i wanted.my debt card in which he did not hand.over to me immediately very rude!! As a business owner I would not.be cheap over a little extra salsa funny thing there was.not 1 customer in there! There are.many places closer and are.more reasonable and for that reason I will not return and i dont recommend! Ifthe staff is not friendly you will lose! The service is fantastic!! The food is also delicious and the portions are huge. My favorite are the flautes con mole. The mole tastes very much like the one my mother makes. Their margaritas are to die for! They have $5 margaritas on Thursday nights. They also have a full service bar and music. just an update on Rito's Mexican restaurant- we have finally tried the mocohate (?) stone pot cooker. It was fantastic with a little of everything- chorizo, chicken, beef, cactus leaves, cheese etc (you get the idea) A great deal for 2-3 people as an appetizer to share. Also still the best margaritas around (with $5 Thursday margaritas) A special note about the mole- they make it fresh everyday from scratch and it takes hours. delicious! Have also finally tried the enchilada demar (shrimp) excellent and have a great kick to them. Get to Ritos and try something- it is all good. Pro's: The margaritas were great. We went on a Thursday night for the $5 margaritas and they were fantastic. There is actually a good amount of tequila compared to margarita specials I've had at other places. The food was good as well. Excellent queso and guacamole. Con's: The service was poor. Although everyone was friendly, they were not able to keep up well with a crowd on a busy Thursday night. We were told 10-20 minutes when we got there, but we waited for approximately 50 minutes. They had too few servers to keep up with the rush. Almost everything took way too long: getting a table, placing our order, and receiving the bill. Delicious freshly made food (not pre-made leftovers from the freezer!). The flaming margarita is a must try for all margarita fans. Friendly service, feels like family, which means the meal may take a little longer, but is SOOOOOOO worth it. We've come here often, usually in a big group. It usually has a good crowd on weekend nights and is pretty loud. Drinks are great and Rito and his team are always great. The food had been hit or miss in my opinion, but I have to say that it's been getting much better lately. Recommendation: You have to try the Pork in Green Sauce, can't remember what it's called on the menu. Had it for the first time and it was Fantastic. read more

Awesome place! We went here on a Friday night early and it was pretty busy. Friendly staff and catered to my daughter...which meant a lot to me. Guacamole made at the table which she loved. Food authentic and fresh. Btw, adult drinks were very tasty! This place is such a gem. From the outside it doesn't look too promising but once inside such a nice experience! Amazing margaritas..... even better for $5 on Thursday night. Get them with the flaming shot of Grand Marnier. There is a wait if you go past 6:00, but it is well worth it. My favorite dish is the molcajete, which is not on the menu. Melted cheese with a rib, steak, chicken, onions, cactus leaf, chorizo and an amazing salsa. Be prepared to go there with plenty of time. Ususally takes a solid hour an a half to complete a dinner service there. Oh,and did I mention AMAZING tableside Guacamole?! Only on Thursday nights I believe. I was there last night with some friends and it was my first time there. The decor fits the theme. Warm friendly place and the margaritas are authentic as the food coming out of the kitchen. The price is reasonable on the food and I did see they have specials on imported Mexican beer. I had a margarita on the rocks with 2 shots of premium spirit. ( Cazadores at $5 a shot not bad in my book) our waiter was on point all night and friendly. I ordered a "tongue skillet" and it was amazing. Huge portions of food. Everybody in my group was pleased. I thought it'd be a fancier place, but it's not. Which really isn't an issue. the main area when you walk in is like a order at window and get your food type place. They do have a dining area for busier nights probably with a server but we came on a Tuesday and it was pretty slow. We sat at the bar which only had like 6 seats. But we had access to tv for game. As for drinks we got a margarita with an upside coronita, pretty good, and ALOT stronger than expected. Most places you barely feel a buzz, with the is one I was feeling a little tipsy by the end of my meal. Pretty good. And I'm no lightweight either. We shared the chicken and steak fajita. It came with shrimp...which was nice for my boyfriend. I'm not a fan and I'm not allergic so that was ok. It was a nice suprise for him though. My wife loves Mexican food. I do not like it - but this place is an exception. Hidden away in a strip mall, it's looks are very deceiving. Inside on a Tuesday night it was a busy bustling atmosphere and it took some time to be served our food, but the wait was definitely worth it. Bad experience! Went to Rito's Sunday late afternoon looking forward to a nice outing with my son and his girlfriend. What a disappointment!!! I ordered a burrito, and my guests ordered the pinata entree. We waited a long time. When mine came, it was cold. The refried beans were even glazed over. I cut into my burrito and found that it was cold...and worse yet it was filled with lettuce and a huge mega mass of sour cream. Yuck. There was nothing else that I could see but a few specks of meat enshrined in a mass of cold sourcream and lettuce. I called the waiter over and told him I did not want it. I told him it was all sour cream and I showed it to him. He ignored me and asked"You ordered the burrito, didn't you?" I had, but I explained that this one is all sour cream. There was not even any guacamole in there! He begrudgingly took it away and asked me what else I wanted. Well, under the circumstances, I did not want to order anything else (My group had already ordered expensive drinks, so Ritos was already making a profit...what the heck! I told him that I didn't want any food....under the circumstances when you send something back like that, eating food served subsequent is risky. nothing. However, he returned to the table and said "I have to bring you something. I cannot take it off. So what do you want? You can order the pinata entree and just pay the difference" Well, it was a beautiful day, and I wanted to have a nice experience, so I just hastily ordered the pinata entree. My party was already finished, and I waited and waited and finally it came. Very disappointing. And very rude to treat a customer like that. It was as if to say, HEY you made the mistake of coming here, and ordering something, and YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR SOMETHING TO EAT WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!!!! WHO CARES about YOU???!!!
