This place has just completely fallen apart and it's so sad. They used to care about their clients (especially their regulars) and take great pride in cleanliness and providing great services... but my last 2 visits were the opposite. The nail salon was filthy and I was not the only one who noticed. I made an appointment with Susan and when I arrived, she pretended she didn't know me and put me with someone else thinking I couldn't tell the difference between her and this other woman. That is just horrible service. The woman who did my mani & pedi was rough and lacked a gentle touch. I actually winced several times because she was hurting me. The prices went up and the experience went down. I cannot stress enough how awful my recent experiences have been and beg you to avoid this place. This was my first time going to this place. The salon feels dirty and I immediately noticed thick dust on the shelf behind the nail tech. The salon played opera music and it felt the opposite of relaxing. I was getting a simple gel mani. During, she put UV gloves on me which appeared to be used. It was gross. I wanted to get up and leave but didn't. Through all this, it did seem like the nail tech was paying attention, so I was disappointed when I left with thick and gross looking polish. It is very bumpy and chunky. When I left I could not answer yes to liking them. The tech pretended she didn't see any problem with them. I got a dip polish manicure and gel polish pedicure on 7/23 as a walk-in. a tech started to prep my nails to soak off the polish when a few of the techs including the one working on me started arguing. (not in english but I can tell when people are arguing ). Once my first hand was done the nail tech grabbed her equipment stood up and stormed off. I asked then if everything was ok. I was uncomfortable. A second technician asked me to move down and she continued my service between her station and the pedicure chair while my pedicure was being done by a third technician. My complaint is that my manicure was terribly done, less than a week later the polish was chipping off and my nails were breaking. There was hardly any top coat applied and the polish wasn't smoothed out and looks bumpy. I will not go back. I paid $60 plus tip and got what looks like a $15 service. idk if they feel like because they are located adjacent to Rittenhouse square they can charge these prices but give bad service. I've visited Rittenhouse Nails several times since returning to my office (because it's super close to my office & my usual place was displaced during the pandemic). I typically get a pedicure. The value for what you get is quite poor. The pedicure is super quick & is mainly them just painting your nails. Minimal cuticle care. Minimal exfoliation. And the last time I was there... At the end of the pedicure, I discovered that I had chosen a "long lasting" nail polish that would cost me $4 more. I had chosen an Essie nail polish that is available at CVS that costs $4 more per ENTIRE BOTTLE. Come on! read more

Let's just say there's a reason this is the only place in the city that isn't booked out a week in advance. I've been coming here on and off for years and the quality of what they deliver for the price is awful. Every time I've gotten acrylics here they turn out incredibly uneven. And every time I am left incredibly disappointed. Their only saving grace is that they are clean and conveniently located. Maybe it's the nail technician I somehow get assigned to whenever I'm there. But my nails always look awful when I leave, if you are getting extensions you'd honestly be better off getting press ons. The pedis here are decent. I'm going to plan better and get an appointment at lacquer lounge next time because they know how to do acrylics and can actually do designs (the glitter on my nails is not what I asked for but when the tech attempted to do the very simple design I requested she couldn't so I had to get something different). When I left I gave up and said my nails looked great because I had already been there for two and a half hours and was honestly just done at that point. The acrylics are also ridiculously thick. My college graduation is in two days and I'm debating soaking these embarrassingly awful nails off at home and just getting press ons. Edit: the more the day has gone on the more genuinely upset I am about how awful these turned out. I wasted over $100 on nails I honestly could have done much better myself. A friend of mine got engaged so we went here for celebratory pedicures last summer. BIG MISTAKE! The woman sliced open the side of my toe while she was cutting the nail. As I winced in pain, she gave me an annoyed look and told me to "stay still". Yeah right... you try doing that while there's blood gushing from your big toe. This little cut turned into a big problem. The tools she used weren't clean and I contracted a MRSA infection. MRSA is a highly resistant bacterial infection that can be life-threatening in some situations. For those who aren't weak of heart, you can check out the picture I posted above of just how bad the infection was. I swear I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that it lasted for TEN weeks. After multiple doctor's visits, two different types of antibiotics and a whole lot of pain, it finally cleared up. As for that friend of mine, she ended up calling her engagement off a few months later. This place is cursed!!! read more

I'm happy to say I am back in love with Rittenhouse Nails. I even have a new favorite girl ( shh don't tell Helen and Linda I'm cheating on them!) May was awesome today. She tickled me at first but as soon as I told her I like it firmer she was awesome. She is just as good as massage as Helen and Linda! She really took her time with my pedicure and the leg massage portion. I was able to red a magazine and a half! Then Susan told me she wanted me to get my nails shellac-ed again because a few months ago ( see previous review) my shellac manicure chipped like a day later. May really took her time with the shellac too. She even was cool about me changing my mind on colors ( Coral? Blue? Gold? It's so hard I don't want to look like a blueberry at this wedding! Blue fascinator Blue dress...blue nails?!?) I went with a pretty gold. May gave me my massage at the tail end of the last cure of the shellac. She was awesome. Linda and Helen are by far my faces, but May was just as firm and really blissed me out. She even wrapped up my toes in saran wrap even though my toes were pretty dry. Susan really went out of her way to make sure my visit back was great. She cares about her customers and I really feel like I'm at home there. Don't be discouraged if you walk by and it looks packed. They will call over ladies from Sansom street and you never have to wait too long. Sunny also keeps up with the latest trends they have the new magnetic nail polish! Best manicures I've found in Philly, gels last forever. Some techs are better than others. Every nail tech I've had has listened to me, but only one was so detail oriented that my nail shape felt like artwork at the end. She was a standout. One star off because they seem to only wipe their tools clean with a small alcohol wipe in btwn clients.... Seems like it could be cleaner. I rarely get my nails done but was looking for a pick-me-up after a particularly grueling stretch at work. I came to Rittenhouse Nails based on a few friend's recommendations. The salon is large and centrally located. I came in the mid-afternoon on a workday but the salon was full, I was quite surprised... luckily I didn't have to wait though. They have a large selection of nail polishes but a large portion of them came with an uncharge which was frustrating. I struggled to find a color that I liked and made a mental note that I could bring my own nail polish next time (one which I like and would save me any up charge). My manicurist was quiet but helped me pick a color and overall, let me relax but was also attentive to my needs. I ended up getting the mani/pedi combo because with a student ID you get $5 off which I thought was good. The pedicure was good and I liked the hot stones which is not something you see at all salons. The manicure was fine.. my nails were short so shaping was limited but my manicurist took her time with them. Finally, they give a nice arm and shoulder massage while you get your nails dried prior to leaving. This was quite nice and I've definitely never seen this elsewhere. At the end, she put some oil and saran wrap on my toes to protect them in my loafers. She was also conscientious to make my bill and take my payment prior to doing the manicure polish, lest I forget and risk ruining my nails. Lots of patrons appeared to be regulars which was reassuring. On their website it says patrons get a "personal box" but such a service was not apparent to me and nobody asked for my name or make any indication that I'd have a dedicated box. read more

Very disappointed. I've been here several times for dip manis, and I started going elsewhere because the color selection for dip is pretty paltry. I went back to give another try- still the same tired colors. I paid $60 and the day after it was done, the top coat started coming off. I have never had that happen with dip. I was out of town or I would have gone back. I also don't think they use all of the right products for a dip- I've been getting g them for years and it looks like they are using regular nail polish to hold the powder- definitely not what I've seen at other salons. I walked in recently (2 months ago) and I have found my new nail spot!! All of the ladies are incredible polite & do an excellent job. However, SUSAN takes the cake. Her manicures are fantastic . I like my nails short and neat & they have never looked better. The manicure is long, relaxing and accompanied by a lovely short neck massage. The pedicures are to die for!! Wonderful leg & foot massage, lovely new leather massage chairs , and everything is so clean. Finally, the atmosphere is quite beautiful . A hand painted mural with an Asian inspired theme adorns the walls and there is the most subtle classical music humming in the background . It's hard to pick a nail salon -- there seems to be one on every corner. I can now say with confidence -- I have found my new place. I tip my hat to you Susan. Job well done! I have come many times to Rittenhouse house nails and had a good experience, and I am not one to write reviews typically. However I had a very poor experience with this salon. I got dip dip powder nails two days ago, and while opening a door my hand slipped and three nails cracked off painfully. I was shocked that they were cracked off and bleeding because they were not hit that hard. I am upset as I am in a lot of pain and spent almost 100 dollars on the nails. I immediately went back to the nail salon. While the manager spoke with me she offered nothing, and basically told me to come back when my natural nail is longer and healed. She told me my left hand still looked beautiful. She admitted this shouldn't happen with dip powder. Because of how much I spent and how poorly the nails held up to typical day activity (opening a door) I was disappointed that I was not offered my money back or the touch up on them. I will state this up front: I am not a manicure person, I got them a few times when I was younger, but basically I don't do nail care. That said, I almost cut my finger tip off not long ago and have had trouble growing out the nail. The manicurist was gentle while assessing and performing the service. She recommended a silk wrap. My new fake nail looks completely natural and feels really good. Best of all, I felt no pressure to get a manicure for the rest of my fingers. I'm going back in two weeks so she can look at the nail growth and I might treat myself to one then. :) She also told me she fixes runner's toe, so I'll be sending my running buddies her way. read more

A Yelp friend once told me that she occasionally gets her nails done at this place so I decided to give it a shot. I was looking for something a little more low rent than my usual highfalutin places. At $45 for a mani/pedi, Rittenhouse Manicure & Spa isn't cheap, but that ten extra dollars gets you better services and a nicer environment than most of the quick and cheap spots. The pedi chairs were mostly full when I arrived around noon on a Thursday, but there were still two that were open on the other side of a half wall. I actually preferred this area to the larger room; it was more relaxing. I grabbed a rag mag and tried to relax while also bracing myself for what was sure to be a painful pedicure. I have very sensitive skin which is one of the reasons I normally shell out mad dough for nice salons. Fortunately, Lee was very gentle and the pedicure was actually enjoyable. Next up was the manicure. I normally ask to skip the cuticle cutters but my nails were in such bad shape that I just let it happen. And since Lee was so careful during my pedicure, I trusted that my hands would make it through without any bleeding. I think I had maybe one small nick when all was said and done but my nails look great so I'm not complaining. I only wish that she would have painted a little closer to the cuticle, since there is a small gap between the polish and cuticles. Why does this always seem to happen at certain salons? As my nails were drying, I received a shoulder massage which was practically worth the extra money on its own. My nails look great and I'll likely return whenever I don't have the extra cash to plunk down on my fancier spots. read more

So I just started a new job which has basically already taken over my life. Go in at 9, don't leave until 7 type of situation. This leaves me without many hours in the day to do the things that I need to do...like get manicures. Well, how surprised was I when I was walking home to realize that this place that got glowing reviews from my fellow yelpers AND my own mother was still open! I walk in and they are talking about Chippendales. The greasy men who wear bowties and not much else. COUNT ME IN. They were all too happy to ask me if I wanted a manicure and convinced that my eyebrows were overgrown within 2 minutes of my arrival. I sat down and waited for the bliss. Although I had forewarned my nailologist about my papercut underneath my right thumbnail (occupational hazard), she still managed to tear it open while she was filing my nails. After she was done all of the steps prior to the polish she asked me to pay (common protocol) and then told me that I couldn't put a tip on the credit card (i hate this rule. i never have cash. never) and basically told me that there was an ATM in the chinese restaurant down the street and if I didn't go get her a tip, she wasn't going to finish my manicure... So I run down the street to get money and when I get back, all of the other ladies are bundling up and getting ready to go home. My nailologist said "I have to stay because of you!" Oh guess what? I was looking for a nail salon to take a girlfriend for a double-date birthday present (because who doesn't love mani/pedis?), and saw this place had gotten good reviews, so figured it was worth a shot. WELL. It was fantastic!! The salon itself is very open and bright, with "crystal" chandeliers, a nature mural on the wall, and just a calm/soothing vibe. All the women are super nice, and were really good at just letting my pal and I chat--but also not chatting amongst themselves excessively...you know, when you feel like they're talking about you?? none of that. The pedicures were great--massage chairs, hot stone massage on your feet and legs, salt scrub, and seriously, a 10 minute foot rub...aaah...ecstasy. And the owner mentioned that the jets on the pedicure spas only shoot water out--they don't suck it back in, so the bacteria doesn't get into the machine like at other places. Nasty. From there, we moved to the manicures, which were quick and efficient. They look great. And then, once we were set up at the drying station...Shoulder and neck massage while drying. PHENOMENAL! As other people have mentioned, you get a box of tools that are yours forever, you write your name on the box, and thus you'll never get dirty tools. Big emphasis on hygene here, which is really nice. To sum up: wicked friendly women, super clean and airy place, and really good-looking mani/pedis...All for just $45!! Then they harassed me by following me to the door saying I didn't pay (which I did) but they were saying I had to give them my change for the girls. I have never been so throughly dissatisfied with a manicure and pedicure. 1. Asked not to clip cuticle on injured finger-- do it anyway and even went on to use cuticle pusher on it 2. Asked for square shaped-- got oval 3. Got repeatedly reprimanded for "messing up" my nails when placing feet under uv light even though it was the lady doing my feet who kept jamming my foot in it and causing it to bump the nail 4. Cut my toenails to stubs 5. Used unwashed tools The worst part was the price $90 for gel nail polish which I'm currently trying to scrap off. I blame myself for a lot of what happen because I'm always too afraid to speak up for myself. I don't like to complain and I hate confrontation. Nice space. It's definitely one of the largest mani/pedi places I've been to. I went on a Friday at about 4:45. They took me right away for a manicure. At first, all of the manicure stations were full so I sat in the pedicure chair, but it wasn't a big deal. Mostly young professionals getting their nails done, although there were a few Real Housewives of Rittenhouse types. One was complaining very loudly about her nannies and housekeepers. It was entertaining to listen to while I had my nails painted. The color is still on 4 days later, with one additional top coat added by me on Sunday. It even lasted through bowling. The massage during two drying cycles is amazing. They give everyone their own kit, but I had to ask about it to get one. read more

After reading all of the positive reviews on here, I took a break from my usual nail salon to try out Rittenhouse Manicure & Spa one Saturday afternoon. I was extremely disappointed as it was the worst manicure/pedicure that I have ever had anywhere ever. 1. Despite making an appointment and arriving 5 minutes prior to my appointment time, they did not have a proper station set up for me upon arrival. 2. The biggest complaint however was the quality of the mani/pedi: this was the most harsh and painful mani/pedi I have ever had. While trimming/shaping my toes the woman CUT my big toe because she was moving so quickly and was so careless. To make it worse, she then tried to cover up the fact that she had cut me - however, a) I could feel the pain of a cut on my toe, and b) my toe started gushing blood as a result of her work and she had to then put stuff on my toe to stop the bleeding. Not only is this unsanitary, but she offered no apology or acknowledgment at having cut my toe while working. After this she kept working and ended up cutting another toe - two toes were now bleeding and open to possible infection as a result of her carelessness. It still got worse, for while doing my manicure afterwards she proceeded to cut both my thumb and index finder while doing the shaping/trimming of my nails. Again, my fingers started spurting blood, I was in a great deal of pain as a result, and this time she smiled in "apology" but come on - I did not come to the nail salon to end up bruised and exposed to infection. Further, I did not see her disinfect the tools or take them out of an autoclave prior to starting on me, hence as soon as I ran home I had to apply Neosporin and band aids to all of my cut fingers and toes - so now my new mani/pedi was covered up by multiple band aids... lovely, thanks Rittenhouse Manicure & Spa. 3. On top of all this, she did a terrible job applying nail polish and both my toes and fingers looked terrible. The nail polish was unevenly applied, on several nails she failed to apply polish tot the entire nail, and the color chipped a few days later. While I understand that I may have had a bad manicurist and an unseasonably bad experience, I have never before had such a bad experience at ANY nail salon before and will never again go back to this salon. read more

The first time I went there I had tips applied with a french manicure. I was very pleased with the results. The second time I came in they removed the tips and a young inexperienced new employee proceeds to cut my nails square when they were clearly rounded. She cut them so unevenly that the owner/manager had to make them too short just to try and round. them. My hands are very tan and olive skinned and I explained numerous times that I wanted a natural look. They showed me the powder and I emphatically said its "too pink" but they assured me that it would look natural when done. I tried to trust them but the finished product looks like I have bubble gum pink on all my nails. When I expressed my disappointment and dislike, she laughed and said" we do different next time."They should have offered to redo at no charge. Clearly there will be no next time and I will paint a more natural polish over the horrible pink that I am looking at now. I just wasted $50. Much like the writer who posted before me, I am a regular of Rittenhouse nails first at the location on 17th and Samson and now on 20th. I also am cheating on Helen, but not with Linda (though maybe I should give her a try), but with Susan. I just can't help it, the salon on 20th is larger, prettier and at off-peak times like mornings or weekday afternoons, very quiet. The owner Sunny actually cares about her customers unlike some other nail places in the city. If something you do not like happens, tell her! She will apologize and fix it, she is a savy business woman. I've been going to Rittenhouse Nails for over four years and only once was there a problem and she raced after me and brought me back in. She's the best! They now use the hot stones for the Pedicure massage and it's fabulous. Try to go during off-peak hours they open early usually 9:30, slow during the weekday mornings, and stay open fairly late, but be careful it gets pretty crowded late in the day. When they are not busy, you get a longer massage, but realize even when they are croweded, they do a great job and will give you a shortened down version of the royal treatment. read more

I love Rittenhouse nails. I am picky as can be when it comes to waxing, having had a really bad experience outside of the city. Anyway, the women at Rittenhouse nails are good- never too thin and my sensitive skin never gets irritated after. I prefer Susan or Sofia, as they take their time with their clients. Mani and pedi from here lasts. The only downside is that their shellac manicures are far more expensive than competitors, but their regular manicure is priced very well given the drying massage. The pedi is on the expensive side but you get hot stone massage so again totally worthwhile. Occasionally I will get lucky with a great & lengthy back massage while drying, but even if its just a short one, just having it as an added bonus is completely worth every penny! read more

I have never been in the presence of a more nasty owner in my life and I will no longer support this place.
