Had ti take a trip to the south side to handle some business, I was riding around when my eyes ran across this diamond .. I hadn't had Ritters in a good long time with my dietary changes but something about the Turtle sundae was calling my name. The drive through was open and ready to assist. When I got my frozen custard, I had forgotten how big it was BUT I was up for the challenge. There were lovely ribbons of hot fudge, creamy caramel, fresh crunchy pecans, whipped topping and a cherry. Talk about a kid in a candy store. I could not get into ot fast enough. The custard was as creamy as I remember, wonderful fudge and caramel not overly sweet and then the crisp crunch of the yummy, buttery pecans. When I say it still taste the same as I remember, took me back and now that I know its there, from time to time I'll have to make a trip and have one of my fav treats. This was the OG premium ice cream place in the area 25 years ago. I recall great service because they were training many managers here for their impending expansions. Crowds and lines every night. Great product worth the extra you spent. Now? Place looks like it hadn't seen maintenance for a decade, can't even be bothered to invest in new menu boards much less spray for weeds or properly maintain the concrete. Prices still highest in town, but doesn't feel like you're getting anything you couldn't get at Culver's. You're better off going elsewhere. read more

We went to Ritter's last night, we got there by 10 pm. The website says open until 10:30 pm. When we got to the window, we stood there for at least 5 minutes. We were ignored by the staff who did not acknowledge us, and after 5 minutes they finally opened the window and said they were closed. We went to the other location by Emerson, they are open until 10:30 pm. If the hours have changed it would have been nice to know or have it updated. But, knowing other Ritter's locations are open until 10:30 pm. If the one in County Line Rd is the only one that closes at 10:00 pm please update your website. But, as far as I know, every location is open until 10:30 pm. read more

When we eat out we usually don't order dessert. Instead we like to stop and get an ice cream on the way home. We both love ice cream. Ritter's walk up window is open for business as well as their outdoor dining area. My favorite is a strawberry sundae. See my photo: This was kind of cool when Ritter's added two sugar wafers to my sundae. Their whipped cream was very good too. I think I found a new favorite at Ritter's! Lately my wife has been craving peanut butter shakes so that's what she ordered today; a small that ran like $3.50. We know it's kind of hard to mess up a shake but she likes her shakes thick but not so thick you can't suck it up through the straw. Her shake was perfect in that way. My friend and I had a great lunch at one of our favorite Indian restaurants and decided we needed Ritter's Frozen Custard. It was close by so we decided to go through drive-up since my friend has mobility issues but you can order at one of the walk up windows, too. The line moved fast and we only waited a couple minutes before getting to the speaker. The girl taking our order was polite, repeated our order back and confirmed we both wanted whipped cream, peanuts and a cherry on our sundaes. My friend ordered the Hot Fudge Sundae made with 2 scoops of Fudge Brownie with hot fudge, peanuts, whipped cream and a cherry. I ordered two scoops of the Heath Bar topped with hot fudge, peanuts, whipped cream and a cherry. We just pulled over under a shade tree in the parking lot and enjoyed our sundaes. The custard was delicious and refreshing on a hot day. Ritter's has over a 100 flavors of frozen custard that change weekly and all are gluten free. They make their custard fresh daily, always have a flavor of the day, and serve in sundaes, glaciers, banana splits, shakes, malts even strawberry shortcake. This has been one of my favorite custard spots since my college days. I don't have one in my area so I relish whenever I'm in an area that does have a Ritter's. My go to has always been the Turtle Sundae with turtle custard. This may sound like overkill but my sweet tooth Kong's for this combo. It's so thick and creamy just like I like with all the ingredients I enjoy. They usually have several options for flavors of custard per day as well as your standard vanilla or chocolate. Good thing I found out about this place towards the end of my trip here in Indiana. I could have easily come here everyday. Stopped by during the evening when the walk up registers were closed and they were only taking drive thru orders. Small size glacier is $4.45, regular is $5.25, and large is $6.20. There is a 4 oz difference between the regular and large size which was enough of an excuse to go for the large in my mind! A large ended up being more than enough for two people to share and have leftovers for the next day...or later that same night ;] Prices are perhaps a bit more than other competing custard places and you only get one mix-in (extra mix in is $0.76 more) but the quality is definitely worth it. I love this Ritters! The service is always great and the tables are clean for when I bring my kids and/or dog. A couple of weeks ago, I came by for a milkshake at 11am (I didn't realize they opened at 12pm), and the employees who were setting up went ahead and served me even though they were closed. Ritter's locations seem to have almost vanished. That is a shame because they really do have an excellent product. All of the locations on the west side of Indy have long since closed, so we have to travel if we want to eat here. It was a rainy day, so we were the only people here. I ordered the strawberry shortcake. It was pretty pricey at around $5 in my opinion. It was a decent-sized portion of vanilla frozen custard. I wish there would have been more actual cake in it. It was just some soft sponge cake instead of real shortcake, so that was a bit disappointing. The service was friendly. Not that they had anything better to do. read more

Ritter's Frozen Custard - currently only open for drive-thru and only accepting credit or debit card. They do use a delivery service as well. We had a butterscotch and hot fudge sundaes. Their custard is excellent as always they service was fast, friendly and just pleasant. I could go on and on about the sundaes but let's just say they were awesome. When presented with a custard choice, always choose Ritter's. Their custard is smooth and creamy. Stay away from Culver's custard as it gives you the wrong idea how custard should be. Culver's is more of a ice cream type. Ritter's may be a dollar more in price and you have to pay for more than 1 add in but if you're buying ice cream/custard then go to Ritter's. Decided that we needed a cool treat to end another warm day. When we left the apartment on the hunt for some delicious ice cream the original destination was Dairy Queen on SR135, but the line as incredibly long and not moving at all. So, then it became Culvers right next door. But as we pulled into their parking lot, it came to me...Ritter's! I haven't been to a Ritter's in a couple years and decided it was time to break the streak. And I am so glad that I did. When we arrived there were people sitting outside enjoying their treats with two windows open to move people through the line. We hardly waited at all. When I got to the counter, it clearly had been several years as I forgot how the process went in ordering a Glacier. But the girl at the window was friendly and walked me through the process. It makes me happy to see teens that know how to be friendly when they're at work...even if they hate being there. Makes me smile. Our treats were delicious. And I know I sound like a Karen but I MUST SAY I pulled into their drive through today at 2155, another car was ordering. I pull up to the box at 2157, which is annoying, I know. But it's just me and I wanted a hot fudge sundae. Anyway they wait until 2201 and say "we're actually closed at 10" (insert angry emoji face). I remember being a teenager in my summer job. Heck, even in my job now when you're done you're done. HOWEVER I've never had a job where you can just wait until after closing time and use that as an excuse to not do anything. So there's a Culver's right down the road, there's also a Dairy Queen and a McDonalds nearby, if you're dying for some ice cream I'd check those places out first. read more

This is probably the best local custard place. In my opinion it beats out Culvers. It's a tad bit on the pricey side, but their glaciers are great. Their flavors of the day are always good, too. Ritters is a local company started in Franklin so I do like to support them. read more

It's a bit pricey but it's not your standard ice cream. I crave the frozen custard here. The ice cream cakes are pretty amazing too. During the summer they have "Dog's Night Out" where once a month you can bring your four-legged pal with you and for every item you purchase they give your dog(s) a dish of vanilla custard. read more

Went here last night about 10 minutes till nine. Waited in agonizingly slow drive through line and we were next up when the lights went out. Car in front of us sat, was told to wait a moment, then nothing. I finally left my car and went to front of store where about 20 people were standing in line. 6 or so teen workers were in store with only one window open and no sense of urgency. I knocked on drive through window and told the kid inside that 6 or so cars had been waiting over 10 mins. He said they were out of vanilla and were trying to close. Arrived at 855 and waited behind the customer who was wrapping up. Stood there waiting and waiting. A couple cars finish at drive thru. I see the girl working the drive thru lock the window and I get the hint. I politely knock on the window and ask the young lady working who the manager is. I ask if they closed at 855pm and if she had not seen me standing there. She said "I guess". She offered no apology and stood staring at me. I told her it was poor business and that i have been a long time regular and would not be back. At the very least, she could have let me know they were closing early instead of leaving me wait 10 minutes. I'm now at Dairy Queen. This type of poor customer service is a growing trend. As a small business owner myself, i have seen the continued downward trend of customer service and leaving ill equipped young people in charge is the culprit. I won't be back. My $800-1,000 a year I spend here won't effect this place, but they won't get another cent from me. It's not the end of the world, it's not a huge deal, and I'm not someone who regularly gives poor reviews. I can't remember the last time I even gave a poor review. read more

After having visited only once prior to this review, I can assure anyone who reads this that it will be my last. I am not one to venture off the path of routine and usually for good reason; alas, this has proven my theory to be a rather safe bet. The first time I ordered from Ritters, I left with a bad taste in my mouth, from both the "frozen custard" as well as the treatment I received. Excluding the fact that the pricey item I chose was completely wrong, when brought to the manager's attention, I was told, "well, it happens. I don't know what you want me to do about it." "Uh, fix it? Or give me my money back." I asked as pleasantly I could muster. Unfortunately for this business however, putting a little more time into the selection of their store leaders isn't a huge priority. I was told to leave as to not hold up the drive-thru anymore than I already had beed. After thinking about the incident further, I concluded that the child in charge was just having a bad day. I attempted to give Ritters Frozen Custard one more shot but unfortunately to no prevail. The peanut-butter mountain I ordered was wrong and the staff is as incompetent as ever.
