Stopped by here with my wife during our road trip to Kalamazoo and saw this place wasn't that far from where we were staying. I got Vanilla Custard with hot caramel and almonds while my wife got vanilla custard with peaches. To me, it seemed more like regular Vanilla Ice Cream than Vanilla Custard to me. I didn't really taste much of a difference versus some vanilla ice cream somewhere else. The peaches I could be wrong but tasted it, and my wife agreed it seemed like canned peaches. For a quick dessert spot, it's not bad. Friendly staff and pretty quick on a warm summer day. read more

Fun place to stop at for custard after visiting the air zoo... was a little surprised that they only had 5 or 6 flavors of custard on the menu that day, but everything tasted great! A turtle sundae, a hot fudge sundae, and then 3 different flavors of single scoops... yum! read more

Had a great experience last time, having got hot fudge and strawberries over vanilla custard. I almost always get hot fudge and raspberries or strawberries but tried branching out and getting cake batter syrup with strawberries and the syrup was simultaneously bitter and overly sweet. I will be going back, but think the cake batter syrup should come with a disclaimer that it doesn't work in sundae form. Maybe if it was pre-mixed as one of the flavors of the day or in a glacier, but it shouldn't be eaten on top of custard. read more

Can only comment on the drive-through experience but everything was super tasty. We stopped by here yesterday for dessert. I had the caramel Snickers custard which was one of the daily flavors, and it was delicious - super creamy. My boyfriend had the chocolate-covered banana custard, which was also a flavor of the day, and enjoyed it as well. My friend's husband got vanilla custard. I definitely would return when in the area, we visit my friends who live here maybe once or twice a year so I'm here fairly often, too. read more

I love the ice cream/ custard and the variety. However, the training on how to scoop ice cream is lacking to the extreme. Not only is the serving skimpy it's not presentable as well. I went yesterday and it looked like a toddler scooped it out for me and it was already dripping like it had sat there a few minutes before someone gave it to me and took my payment. This has been going on for months now. I paid $5 for two scoops and it was a mess literally and it was much less than the two scoops I paid for. I hope it gets better soon! read more

Ritter's frozen custard is a pretty cool place to visit. I was in Kalamazoo for the weekend, visiting my daughter and son in law. They suggested trying it since it was such a warm evening. I was so happy to be able to get Italian Ice as I cannot have ice Cream. I got lemon and watermelon. Yummy is all I can say I can't wait to go back. The counter person was super nice and bubbly. They have tables to sit at outside which was nice. They did run out of blue razz so be prepared to not always get what you want. Will for sure be going back next time I'm in town! read more

Definitely not like it used to be. I ordered a large glacier with Oreos and hot fudge and was given a large cup of ice cream soup. Whoever made the glacier over-blended it so much that I had to have a straw to drink it. There were also about 2 Oreos in the whole cup. This used to be my favorite ice cream place, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon after this experience. read more

I'm a sucker for Frozen Custard. This Ritter's custard stand is seasonal. So if it's winter time you might be out of luck. I always go for anything chocolate but this time I stuck with the classic single scoop of chocolate. Ask them for the flavors of the day cause they change. I had actually never heard of Ritter's before a friend took me. It's a really cute drive through, or in warmer weather, sit down outdoors custard parlor! You can enjoy shakes, malts, cones, waffle balls, glaciers, cakes, pies, smoothies, or create your own sundae. Because I love strawberries so, so much. I went for a large strawberry glacier. Literally every bite that I had taken of the custard had a strawberry in it, which I thought is pretty rewarding. I could just imagine what the other speciality items were like. They make sure you get what your paying for. The custard here is really smooth and not chunky, watery, or bitter. I've come across some foul custard before. But if you are curious and want something sweet that will taste good, I'd definitely recommend Ritter's. I much prefer actual fruit in my custard, but I might just go back and try out the candy pieces! read more

My 3 star rating here is based mainly on the nice play area out back. If I'm looking for a way to keep the kids entertained for longer than it takes a 2 year old to eat ice cream (custard, whatever), which in our case is approximately 3 minutes, then this is my go to place. If not, then in my opinion there's nothing that sets this place wildly apart from the numerous other frozen treat options in the area. Good, but not great. They seem to always carry a couple of standard custard flavors like vanilla and chocolate, but I will give them credit for creativity in the featured flavors. On our most recent visit I tried Boston cream pie and it was pretty darn good. The flavors of the day are posted on their sign, and I drive past every day, so I get in the habit of checking them out. Today's was pumpkin praline, the strangest I've seen advertised was avocado banana. If you go with little ones, ask for a kid sized serving. I didn't see it listed on the menu but it was offered to us by a helpful woman working at the counter. read more

I love the ice cream here and usually the service is amazing. However, I got to the drive thru at 9:30pm and sat there for 5 minutes before someone told us that it was closed even though when we pulled up there was a car at the window. However, the hours on the website say that Sunday-Thursday it closes at 10pm. This was a Monday night. This is the sweetest most delicious custard in the history of ice cream. I always try to go here when I'm in town. I love that they change of the flavors. I do think that the menu could be updated a little with some new combinations. However, the service is fast and friendly, lots of young people who are honest and excited about the custard. I always try some new flavor when I go but unfortunately I never manage to finish what I get because of course, it is deliciously sweet...definitely best for a shameless cheat day #noremorse also free cups of water which is nice and will help you get it down easier. They have a couple of tables but I suggest you wait for the ones with an umbrella if you don't want to get ice cream all over you. read more

OMG! Where do I start! I from Missouri and we have frozen custard place I miss there but this place makes my home sickness go away! They will make anything you want even when it is not on the menu. Mint chip Glacier or pumpkin cheesecake Glacier done! They are my favorite people and sometimes I walk my dog there so he can get his puppy cone! Ritter's had been one of our favorite "ice cream" treat spots when Mr. MVP forgets to bring home ice cream from MSU's Dairy Store, but the last time we went our experience was just okay. I will say the outside of the store is always clean and there is a really nice playground for running around. These two things are perks and have remained consistant. What has really driven us crazy are the teenagers who work there. When I order a small chocolate shake and I get a half full cup of vanilla custard with processed chocolate syrup poorly mixed in, I start to feel a tad bit irritated, especially when chocolate custard is a featured flavor for the day. So, if you have children and need a safe, clean playground and a treat, Ritter's might be a good option. Stay away from the extra candies and syrups and stick with the plain custard (not the sugar free diet custard, that has aspartame) and the preservatives should be nearly non-existent. read more

I personally love the gelatti's - it is the perfect mix for those who want multiple things, the sweetness or tartness of fruit and the creaminess of custard. I normally love love love Ritters but today I had to throw away my glacier. It had chunks of pineapple all through it. I didnt ask for pineapple and the taste with the oreos was gross. If I hadn't been on my way home, I would have asked for a replacement. Please be more carefull in the future. I originally gave this review one star but I feel that wasn't fair. I stopped in on a low key Saturday night with a friend and had, if I recall correctly, a butter almond custard on a waffle cone -- not my favorite, but they didn't have a lot of flavor choices available. For the price, I just didn't enjoy my custard that much. Also, the teen who served us was clearly less than thrilled that we were there. It wasn't crowded (just me and my friend) so a smile would at least have been nice. On the plus side, they did have a decent amount of seats on which to sit outside and enjoy your dessert as well as a lot of options when it comes to ordering (other than the flavors). It would be a perfect place to take kids in the summer, but other than that, I'd pass it up. read more

If you've never had frozen custard, you have not lived! It's so smooth and creamy. Even boring vanilla is transformed into something incredible. This is one place that I can get a plain vanilla cone and feel completely satisfied. I highly recommend the sundaes and the root beer float. Not impressed. When I get a sundae, I expect the toppings to last more than a few bites. 3/4 of it had no toppings. If that's what I wanted I would have just bought a pint of vanilla. Add on the number of ice crystals, doubtful I'll be back. read more

I can't get over this stuff. I ate it non-stop when I was pregnant with my twins, and I'm still loving it two years later. Smooth and creamy with the perfect amount of sweet, one of my favorite things about this place is how generous they are with their delicious, fresh toppings. If you love eating Reese's peanut butter cups, you will appreciate that the Reese's are not dried out. It's as if they opened a package and smashed 'em up just for you ;-) read more

If you like custard, you'll love Ritter's. We're new to the area and we don't have a Ritter's where we're from. Yum!
