This place is close to my neighborhood. What's so special about that? Gas is over $5.00/gal. That's what got me in. But, gas alone does not make for a happy belly. They now have Taco Monday and Taco Wednesday. Each taco is 0.99¢ This price is relevant to their chicken taco. I enjoyed the flavor and texture of the chicken taco. Compared to other Mexican restaurants in the Reno area, the tacos are noticeably smaller. But, on the flip side, these tacos are cheaper than some other places. Depending on who's cooking these yummy tacos, they can be greasy. This visit, they were not greasy. Just yummy! The food was good. I enjoyed it and I plan to be back. I will try some of their other offerings. This time, my review is just on their tacos. The service was fair and good. I gave it a dual rating since I had to wait too long for someone to come to the counter and take my order. Once my order was taken, it came out hot and fresh! They even brought it to my table! But, it still bothered me that I had to wait for an acknowledgement. There were more than enough employees working. If nothing else, someone should have acknowledged me. Another customer, that came in after me, was waiting a few minutes with no one taking his order or acknowledging him. I can understand if there was a long line in the drive through, but that wasn't the case. I counted 3 people working behind the counter. One person (manager?) should always have an eye on the front counter. If nothing else to acknowledge the customer. I worked retail long enough to know that will make for happier customer. The salsa bar good and the salsa had enough of a kick to satisfy me. Maybe another choice could be added. Jalapenos, pickled, roasted or sliced fresh would be good. The selection was small. To the point that I had to say something about it here on Yelp. Location of this location. It's where Shake & Steak used to be. Between Golden Valley and Lemmon Dr. Bottom Line ------------------ Would I eat here again? Yes. Would I suggest this location? Yes, kind of. But I wouldn't rave about it. I will review again after I try some of their other offerings. I sure hope that I don't have to wait to be acknowledged next time I decide to come here. read more

I should have checked the reviews before I stopped here today. I have been to several other locations and enjoyed my meal. Today was a different story. I ordered a steak salad. With tax it was over $13 . The cashier was friendly and polite but let me tell you the food was TERRIBLE. Old steak, tasted funny, smelled funny and served cold. The bottom of the salad was store bought bagged shredded iceberg lettuce. They covered it with a decent spring mix but that was just to cover up the icky iceberg underneath. Overall I'm disappointed. I trashed the whole salad and left.. needless to say I won't be back to that location as I do not have money to just throw in the trash. read more

I wish I could give minus 1000 stars for this poor excuse for a restaurant. I ordered a breakfast burrito at 4:45am. The delivery time was initially 5-5:20. Then the delivery time switched to 6:15-6:20. I had to be at work at 6. I called the merchant and they kept hanging up on me. I called DoorDash support 4-5 times and they were either closed or couldn't help me because they were the merchant only line. I called Rivas's back and asked them to call the merchant so I could cancel my order. The female who I was speaking with hung up on me. Wow I should of read the reviews!! First off Rivas tacos are really good and for a good price on Monday and Wednesday. But when I order over a dozen, they've been cold even some have been frozen. I mention this to the supervisor and she informed me it was the lettuce, but it wasn't the taco shells where cold and the aluminum tray they come in was cold. I tried this location about 5 months ago and 4 months ago. It had a sewer smell and that was worrisome. So I looked it up on yelp and there were many with the same complaint for about a YEAR. Hmm...Strike 1. But maybe it is something due to the area. I work out here and there are definite issues with power, plumbing, internet... so maybe... The first try got me SLOW service with NOBODY in the place dining. Then slow food and just bad food. The second time I got the same young gal at the register and I got ignored then helped VERY slowly and I got to take my food with me back to work because the HOUR was almost up. The gal at the register was not really helpful, was distracted, missed things on my first order... And on the second order she was even curt. Strike 2 And bad old veggies and off taste... Yeah... No. Strike 3. I cannot bring myself to try again even though I love the other locations and there are so few good options for food near here. I suspect that, while I see owner following up on Yelp... There is no real work to change things. And that is sad. Perhaps change the staff up and fix the pipes and write off old product rather than serve it. Hell, at least move that slop along faster! If we know we are going to get sick and treated like crap but you are a star on FAST food... It MAY be an option! This was the worst experience i've ever had for my first time at a restaurant. I asked what was in the vegetarian burrito and was told: lettuce, tomatoes, tortilla strips, avocado. I got it and got home and was biting into straight lettuce. It was also lettuce with carrots. No avocado, no tomatoes, no tortilla strips.I called and asked if that was correct and they said no so I returned to get a new one. They took like 7 minutes to make it. & Then when I got home I bit into the burrito to have the exact same experience. I opened the burrito and saw there were a tiny bit of tortilla strips, some avocado (but barely any) and no tomatoes. I paid $8 for a tortilla with salad mix in it.... Me walking in there with a lighter complexion I feel like I was instantly judged. I've always ordered from DoorDash because I've never had issues in this time. I wanted to go pick it up. I felt like the mama had walked in there. New to the neighborhood comes Rivas! I made the mistake of calling the wrong number and had to reorder my food when I got to the restaurant after a 15 minute wait and a mix up of whose name was who, but the young lady on site seemingly running their front of house was polite and accommodating. I ordered their steak fries, a steak burrito and their Rivas burrito combo. A bit on the pricier side I'll admit when comparing them to Roberto's or Carmelitas right around the corner. Everything was absolutely delicious. The fries were crispy, the steak well done, tender and deliciously seasoned. It was raining the evening I stopped by, but regardless it didn't stop anyone from coming in or pulling up to the drive thru which is open 24 hours. The service was a good 10-15 minute wait from the time I put my order in to when the food was ready which was to be expected and I sat inside and enjoyed a fairly chill atmosphere with your usual ambient noise and aromas of chicken, steak, pepper's and such. Overall, I had a great experience minus the hiccup. I usually get names I know, but I was thrown off by having called the wrong number and being hungry. I came back after a year, I wanted a meaty burrito and remembered my previous experience. Filled with optimism at a second chance for some redemption I made my order and to my surprise I was presented with what I believe to be a microwaved burrito. Surely that can't be true but I eat a lot of burritos and this example really felt microwaved or at the very least premade and reheated in some fashion from the moist, tight wrapper and mailable tortilla to the homogeneous filling. It took the restaurant about 30 minutes to fill the order, the first gal that took our order was indifferent but the young man that gave us our order was at least courteous. I love the el pastor and the chicken taco Wednesdays for $1. The horchata and the jamaica is decent but not the best ive ever had. Prices are too high for my liking and they serve lemons instead of limes which I find odd. The food is fast though and the staff is pretty nice but can be hard to flag down sometimes. Towards the beginning--when Rivas Mexican Grill first opened--the food was genuinely great. Unfortunately, the quality has gone downhill fast. They're skimping on meat across the entire menu, and it's honestly frustrating as a regular customer. The dollar tacos have noticeably less chicken, the steak burritos are stuffed with more veggies than actual steak, and the Rivas burrito is basically 90% beans with barely any meat at all. Even the asada fries and other specialty fries have way less meat than they used to. It's disappointing, especially considering they've increased their prices. If they were adding more meat or improving anything, the higher prices would make sense--but instead we're paying more and getting less. To be honest, the flavor has declined too. They used to be good, but now everything tastes bland and thrown together. Even the agua frescas are hit or miss, and definitely not worth the cost. With the high prices and the tiny portions--especially the lack of meat--it's just not worth it anymore. They have a very interesting concept in this restaurant where they serve you "home-made style" Mexican food, but with the idea of making it fast food. I had the shrimp torta, which was good. We had a taco Al Pastor, and we had a beef taco. I kept missing my chips and salsa to go with my meal. The self-serve station had no pico de gallo, which I love at Mexican restaurants. I wish them good luck. I found it interesting that there was no access to drink and sodas, and the restrooms are locked due to the fact that they have homeless people in the area. The location on N Hills Blvd is new and having a few growing pains. We had dined at the location in Sparks and loved it, so as soon as they opened we went. So did everybody else in the north valleys. A Friday evening visit was a bit hectic. The beef tacos were chicken but good and I didn't take it back. The serving size of the rice and beans was too small. Don't disappoint someone with small portions of the least expensive items you offer. Wait time was not too bad considering how many people had flooded the place. The salsa bar is a treat. Red or green or both. So jump forward a couple of weeks and try Tuesday about 2 and you have a completely different story. Beef enchiladas, rice and beans. The size of the ride and beans was what it should be and the beef in the enchiladas was tender. Way too often beef is full of gristle but not here. Because we are in the north valleys and the issues on our first visit had been resolved Rivas will continue to be one of our choices for dine in or pick up. read more

The next thing you notice is the really high prices. $11.50 for vegetarian fries and $11.99 for an average size burrito? The food was fine when it finally arrived. Except the chicken tacos which were cold and incredibly dry. We didnt even eat them. They just opened so maybe they are trying to work out the kinks.
