I spent 48 days at River Oaks and I am forever grateful for the doctors and staff! They have changed my life in a way that I never thought possible. I feel like ME again.. I feel ALIVE again!! My therapist, Marlene, Dr. Camile Santarpio and psychiatrist Laylani went above and beyond! They gave me the life that I always dreamed of!! The therapists leading the groups by Olivia, Rob, Karah, Andrea, Bethany, and Shannon were so powerful and safe spaces.. and that helped me work through so much of my trauma. They also renewed my faith in doctors, one that had been killed by so many doctors in my past 22 years of chronic illness and chronic pain. The support staff, Laurel, Zella, Terry, Danielle, Taneisha, Haleigh, Tarjei and Thomas, always went above and beyond their call of duty to do whatever they could to help.. and I'm so grateful for them! Originally I was only going to stay for detox and I kept prolonging my stay because I could see and feel the difference it was making within me. I will forever speak their praises!! Currently 69 days sober and a lifetime to go!! p.s. so grateful for the housekeepers, Rosie and Milagros for being like my aunties throughout my stay. Also the cafeteria staff, Kiara and Karla for being amazing and taking care of dietary restrictions due to my ileostomy. They're amazing!! This place is an absolute nightmare. The staff barely know how to work the computers and system and are constantly getting medications wrong. People detoxing from alcohol or benzos are having seizures left and right because the doctors and nurses are getting meds wrong. My friend who just left was sent home with a mislabeled bottle of her medication filled with ibuprofen instead of the vistaril (which was also wrong) that was on the label. Treatment assistants are ill-equipped to handle most conflicts and staff are constantly lying to the clients. For example, I agreed with my case manager to discharge from treatment on the 20th, but they told me on the morning of the 20th that my stay is being extended to the 21st because 'too many people are discharging on the 21st for us to handle so that might be why you were pushed back.' Try to find the logic in that statement. Doctors will actively avoid you if you need something and are trying to find them; I asked one to see her, she said maybe, and I knocked on her door twice. She then opened the door with her work bag in hand trying to get away from me. I politely reminded her that I needed to talk to her, then she sighed and sat me down. Case managers here will tell you that they need to talk to you, then proceed to refuse to talk to you. It's poorly run by higher-ups, they cut costs in every way possible. They claim to do PHP and IOP services but those were cut and they have not taken it off the website, which I am assuming is because they want to draw people in. If you're looking for 90-day treatment because they advertise it on their website, then I hate to break it to you, but they DO NOT do that anymore. The whole 'executive-chef prepared meals' thing is a lie, 90% of their food is cheap shit that comes in boxes and bags. They don't really do outdoor activities, like they advertise. They don't do excursions. The whole twelve-step walking path thing that they say they have is gone. The gym is under-equipped and you'd be lucky to find two dumbbells of the same weight. If you came here years ago and loved the amenities, they're probably all gone. The beds are comfortable, at least. However, if you use a towel to shower and hang it up, cleaning staff will take and not replace it. One time I had to dry myself off with my own clothes because they didn't replace the towels and I was on my fourth day without a shower (not by choice, mind you). The treatment assistant was bewildered that I would do such a thing, but I had no other option. They lock you out of your rooms from 8:30 to 4:30 and will not let you back in for ANY reason. If you need to grab something important or lay down because you're feeling off, tough shit. They even took the couches out of the lounge in the schoolhouse building because people occasionally used them to sleep. They took the piano out of the music room for unknown reasons, and just removed the drum kit for, again, unknown reasons. There was a client here groping women and it took the complaints of about 10 clients, and eventually a fistfight, for them to kick him out. Many of the group leaders are not qualified; some are condescending and some spit the same platitudes at you every day. A 'therapist' that actually only has a counseling certificate forged records that the saw one of my friends for three therapy sessions when they had actually never even met. Some 'doctors' do not even have the certifications to call them that but they still call them doctors. Knowing what I know now, I would only come here if I had nowhere else to go. If you can find another treatment facility that takes your insurance, I'd advise you go there instead. read more

Went to river oaks twice about 4 years ago. Such a beautiful place to get better & the staff was incredible. There was only 2 people out of the entire staff I didn't care for. While recovering they made me still feel like a person. We had karaoke nights, beach trips & don't get me started on the food. 10/10 would recommend! read more

DO NOT GO TO RIVER OAKS IN RIVERVIEW IF YOU WANT LEGITIMATE HELP!! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES! I was qualified over the phone about a year ago to go to River Oaks in Riverview, paid over 1K for room and board, drove 4 hours to Tampa, went through the admission process, and on the last step the admissions nurse told me I shouldn't be there, trampled over any vulnerability I had and basically kicked me out. I was told they were going to send me to a psychiatric facility because I wasn't safe enough to leave and there are protocols. Well in less than 20 minutes my paperwork was thrown out and I was driving on the interstate panicking on the phone with my therapist. Keep in mind it's now after dark and I'm driving 4 more hours in the middle of the night panicking. Thank God for my therapist on the phone. They didn't even have a mental health professional on staff to evaluate or do anything so I was literally held for hours and then thrown out within a couple minutes. Keep in mind I voluntarily checked myself into this facility after my therapist recommended I go. I was addicted to meth among other things at one point. I did the hard work and checked myself into a hospital two years ago. But when I started relapsing, I told my therapist and was recommended rehab. Because there weren't "strong enough" drugs in my system when I got there I was thrown out, despite the pill use that week. The few hours I was held there I realized that facilities like River Oaks would only do more harm and cause more trauma to any person that is actually seeking help. The staff can say or do whatever they like behind closed doors and there's no one keeping them accountable, at least in my situation. It's sad because my sister sent me a news article about River oaks where there were over 400 phone calls to 911 in that facility in 2 years. I feel awful for the people that were actually forced to stay there and underwent the abuse and trauma. In my few hours I was bullied, gaslighted, lied to and more (the nurse made it sound like I wouldn't be getting my money back and smirked as I began to panic, because the money belonged to my dad not me). Really wish there was a good way to screen the "professionals" who are supposed to be helping people at their lowest most vulnerable point, not trample on these broken people's emotions with a smile. And the worst part is, you can't even get a name of the staff member there were no name tags and she wouldn't give it. I do know the nurse who told me it was her first day couldn't even look at me. I was just crying because I wanted to go home and was told I would be forced to go to another facility (which was another lie that panicked me). I'm not mad or upset, but awareness needs to be raised for toxic/traumatic facilities such as this one. I'm a year sober from the hard stuff, I quit weed last year and nicotine over Christmas. I have no idea what these negative reviews are about. From my experience being a patient there the facility was fantastic, the staff was always friendly and took the time to talk to me, the food was good (I've definitely had worse in other treatment centers. Way worse) and to top it all off they had a full gym. The only people I saw that had problems with the staff were people that were rude or aggressive. That can be from withdrawals so I did t think too much about it. But to slam this place like some of the reviewers have is completely off. I was able to heal my trauma and learn about the reasons, (psychological, genealogical and environmental) we end up self medicating our pain. Some lack of communication on certain aspects of recovery. I was lucky. Had a great Case Manager in Steven Spaner. The nurses were great and I'd like to give a shout out to Heather; Catherine, and Frank. Lastly, my therapist (Caitlin V) was amazing. She allowed my therapy to be discovery based; listened attentively; challenged my assumptions and thought processes, and offered suggestions and encouragement when needed. Mr. Turiczek, Tomorrow marks my last day at River Oaks and I can honestly say that I am more than disappointed in the outcome at my stay at your facility. Please do not get me wrong. The program offered is excellent and many of the employees go above and beyond their job scope to take care of the clients. However, management is lacking, the communication between employees is nonexistent, nothing is explained to clients, money talks, and patient needs are ignored. I was admitted to the facility on July 1. On July 11, I was taken to the emergency room for some extreme bowel issues I was having. July 12-24, I attended CIOP on an iPad in my room. I assumed (stupidly, on my part), that I would be receiving credit for these days, and I was never informed that these days would be counted against me as unbilled days. I never missed any groups on my iPad sessions. Even when I spoke with Shavondra about my early discharge from the facility, she said that the missed days had nothing to do with me being discharged and that it I no longer showed a medical necessity to be at the facility. It was never determined if my GI issues were caused by detox or something else, because there was only one attempt to make an appointment to send me out to a specialist and then forgotten about. During my stay at the facility, I have witnessed clients coming and going off campus as they please, alcohol being delivered on campus, drugs being exchanged, paraphernalia being confiscated...all without immediate repercussions. At one point, there was a client, that I had witnessed leave campus several nights in a row, screaming about "killing white girls." When I began to have a panic attack and raise my voice, I was told by a TA to "calm down and stop being loud because he is unstable." The other client was unstable!!! This type of behavior is being allowed with blatant disregard to other clients needs and safety. Covid restrictions in the facility are a joke. I would assume that with so many health care practitioners on the campus, that they would take, not only their own health and welfare more seriously, but their patient's, as well. There are no distancing guidelines being enforced. I was told by Fran, that if the female group sessions were going to be combined, they would be moved into the gym. However, it is Saturday and both groups have been combined in the art room with 30 plus women in attendance. The website states that admissions are being limited. I actually laughed at that. This campus is over run with new admits. It also states that they are being quarantined. Not the case. They are being rapid tested and then integrated. The incubation period, according to the CDC, is 2-14 days. Your assistant director of nursing, Leann, explained to us, in town hall, that they will only be tested again if they show symptoms. This community is concerned and your staff is doing nothing for them but brushing them off or flat out lying to them. Case in point, when your therapist, Travis told his men's group that there were no positive cases on campus! Clients are refilling their used cups at community ice and drink machines. No maximum seating capacity is being enforced in the cafeteria. And the truly humorous part of this all is that, management is more concerned about clients ordering outside food and having it delivered because the food in the cafeteria is absolutely disgusting. Eat there. You'll find out. As a peer leader at River Oaks, I truly cared about my community and made it an effort, every day, to boost spirits, create a positive environment, mentor young women, and live in my recovery journey. Unfortunately, those are not the qualities that are valued and fostered by a majority of the employees at the facility. The other peer leaders are in absolute aggreance with me. I decided to go to River Oaks because I knew i needed to make a change or I wouldn't be around much longer. The day before I left, I woke up in the back of an ambulance due to an overdose. I was super nervous to go and be so far from my loved ones, but it was the best decision I've ever made! From the second I was picked up from the airport, I was treated like a person. A person that mattered. They kept me comfortable. You even get to keep your phone thru the whole process. I learned so much about myself and made life long friends I'll cherish forever. Oh yeah.... while I was in treatment, I had 3 close friends die from drugs. I am thankful I chose to go do something different and scary because it could have been me instead. read more

I was drugged at River Oaks Treatment Center by someone putting fentanyl in something I ingested and no it wasn't drugs or alcohol because I was there to get clean not use drugs. Staff did not check on me for almost an hour and they missed my seizure which led to me being pronounced dead on my bed. EMS arrived and started CPR and narcan I was unresponsive. I was put on life support when I arrived to the ICU and this all happened on Christmas Eve just last month. This rehab REFUSES to answer my families questions and to check back on the cameras to see where I was and to see how fentanyl got put into something I ingested. I am suffering from horrible PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I am TRAUMATIZED and this is not fair. This rehab NEEDS to get shut down. I will not be silenced, PLEASE HELP ME. read more

What an absolute cluster F this place has become, my god. Between Drew the "orientation guy" not giving myself or 3 of my other friends orientation, to not seeing a case manager for 5 days. To say this place is disorganized beyond belief would be an understatement. Anytime you ask for something the answer will be "we will work on that for you", just to have the person you asked go home and not communicate your concerns with anyone. Communication between staff is absolutely NON-EXISTENT. Drew just shuffles around like a gnome in his suit and doesn't actually do anything, what is he being paid for? Rules change every day depending on who the staff is. This place needs to be shut down immediately until they get their staffing situation under control. They are ALL IN IT FOR THE MONEY and don't give a flying F about your recovery...other than Demetrius (who happens to be the only shining spot of this shit hole). Stay away. Oh, they also lost my luggage and cologne, didn't know who I was while I was sleeping and kept trying to give me covid swabs, tried to give me the wrong meds since the nurse pulled meds for two patients at once (WTF?!), and 99% of the staff is as useless as tits on a bull. read more

If you love your loved one do not send them to this rehab. Words cannot describe the horrendous experience we had sending my husband there. There are more drugs being sold in this facility than in prison, every type of drug you can imagine. This is because they allow the patients to have cell phones and laptops Which is unheard of in most rehab centers. My husband suffers from mental illness and addiction and because he is a difficult person the staff took a dislike to him and singled him out, They accused him of smoking marijuana on 3 occasions and searched him and found nothing each time. Some of the TM's were nasty and looked down on the patients. My husband was suffering from severe insomnia while he was there for which I called the facility about and he notified the facility doctors about. The last day he was there he was stumbling and not speaking coherently they immediately accused him of being on opiates?, which is a drug my husband has never used! They narcaned him against his will and sent him to the hospital. His blood results came back from the hospital with NO drugs, And they diagnosed him with chronic insomnia. This place is a total shit show and everyone should be aware of what is going in there. My Husband is now at Behavioral Health of The Palm Beaches Thank God, this is a wonderful place. The patients are not allowed cell phones or laptops and patients are required to focus solely on their recovery, Not on all the other nonsense! This facility is a complete JOKE and should be SHUT DOWN. They allow patients to leave and steal alcohol from neighboring businesses. There is no supervision of their patients. People sneak in alcohol and drink without getting caught. How is this possible?! They don't even realize that patients are walking around DRUNK. I give River Oaks five stars because I'm still clean and sober today with all the lessons that I learnt while I was there for 40 days. The atmosphere of recovery is top notch. However, It's not a four star resort. Their will be times of being uncomfortable. If you are not serious about getting sober and clean don't waste your time. I am a current resident/ patient of River Oaks. The therapists are wonderful and will help you in any way possible. The food is good and the company that does it wlll even take requests. The amenities are sub par. The water is an issue temperature and pressure. However DO NOT bring any clothing you remotely care about. The womens entire floor of clothing went out cleaner than it was returned after their staff washing it. Several of our items are just ruined!!! read more

The director harassed swore at and talked down to a patient, threatened to kick them out because they dared speak up for themselves. This place needs to offer treatment not badgering and putting up with people for the hard cold dollars they charge. The behavior at this facility should make you question putting a family member there. They seem to care less about treating someone than snarking at them because they disagree. My husband received treatment at ROTC back in June. Since then, we have been going back and forth regarding billing for lab work. This has added a lot of stress to an already stressful situation. He is on medicare so we paid cash for his treatment. During his time there, his blood was drawn every other day, which was excessive. EVERY time he had blood drawn, he confirmed that the charges regarding blood work were part of his treatment and not an addition charge, and EVERY time they assured him it was. Since he has been home, we have been bombarded with bills from Quest Labs for the blood work. And ROTC has washed their hands of it. He was misled and lied to repeatedly while he was a patient there and now they won't do the right thing and help us sort the situation out with Quest. What a huge disappointment! The rooms on the east dorm are humid, musty and have black mold. They will tell you is mildew to avoid taking care of it. Don't fall for it. The rooms also have no locks, so your stuff will probably get taken by other clients. My tablet was taken on day #2 by an unstable client. Clothes were taken from drawers, full laundry bags went missing, phones and even food disappear. The facility's ridden with Covid19, even if you take all precautions (hand washing/sanitizing, mask, disinfecting your room) you can still get it as the common areas are never cleaned and hand sanitizer machines were empty for 2 weeks at a time. You could find trash from the previous week in the classrooms. Also when some clients tested positive for Covid19 the day went business as usual, no isolation for the whole class and no cleaning of that area. And once you DO get Covid19 you are no longer a person to them, you are now an inconvenience and a liability to the other clients so they will try to discharge you asap. CDC and HIPAA are not followed, they say they do but they don't, my medical status was discussed at Town Hall at 8:15 am the following morning to strangers. Some nurses are amazing, others don't care if you eat. The staff was also getting Covid19 (nurses,T.A's, doctors, teachers and kitchen personnel). It is not safe for anyone. Infection prevention is non-existent. It is a hazardous learning/working environment. There is no cleaning roster for the common areas, not even the bathrooms have a roster to confirm it's been cleaned. Cleaning and disinfecting PUBLIC spaces like classrooms, are a MUST in the fight against Covid19. It's negligent to not clean them, knowing dozens of people are using the area and you have outbreaks on site every week. There are days when there aren't a lot of teachers,(weekends) so instead of letting you go early, they will pack the classrooms, elbow to elbow, some people with masks others without and not even social distancing. There are no horses and no trips off campus because of the pandemic, the website is outdated, the video on YouTube is old, there is no pool and even though they have a fully operational gym you can only use it for 1 hour a day for the first 2 to 3 weeks. The case manager (saw twice in 39 days) assured me that my bag would be taken care of. IT WAS NOT. I ASKED to go through my social worker to get my plane ticket, with 2 confirmed checked bags, case manager said; "I have to go through MY corporate, not your social worker". Because of her own ARROGANCE to put MY NEEDS before HER WANTS (I already anticipated that she would fail) I had to overdraft my account in order to get the boarding pass and make it home safely. Because I used the UBER money for the bag, I had to NOW walk home, which was 2 hours from the airport under the 101° sun and with 2 bags on me. By the time I made it home hours later I'm in a full rage, dripping in sweat, tired and annoyed because this place screwed me and was disappointing in more ways than one for 15 consecutive days. 15 consecutive days of failure, disappointment, carelessness and neglect. Emotionally physically and now financially. Before agreeing to take any test or medication make sure you know the cost. In conclusion, my anonymity about my medical status was broken, my right to privacy was violated, I was treated inhumanely by some staff, my safety was questioned on multiple occasions, my personal property was stolen and my mental health was now compromised. I have let my home team know what goes on here, and while the pandemic is still going, patients will no longer be sent there. Please do your due diligence and read the reviews, not just on google. This place can save your life, if you can overlook all this crap. I couldn't. read more

I've been to a river oaks two times and it was a life saver. I'm for ever grateful because they are a caring business that is all about saving peoples life. The first time I made it a year clean and then relapsed and had to get help, and I was able to make it back and this time I worked on myself more came up with a better aftercare plan instead of going home I stayed in Florida and went into sober living it humble me. Gratitude over attitude was what I needed. My therapist Christine was amazing and puts her heart and soul into her profession. She's taught me a lot also the trainer Jen was amazing! Being in group all day can take a tole on you being able to work out and play basketball helped me a-lot. Being able to take a break and get my mind of things and going to the gym was one of my favorite hobbies. Jen also does massages at the River oaks most companies don't offer that or treatment facilities in t helps get the toxins out of your body when you are detoxing. Jen has the biggest heart I have ever met! I watched her work alone when the facility was packed and she would stay extra hours and always go above and beyond for the clients. She started a prayer group which brought me peace in the mornings. Even if your not into Religion it still helped other clients learn to be humble and help get the day started off right! It put me in the mind set that I'm here to work on myself and get better! It's been over 2 years and life's best I've been promoted with my company ... I started my own LLC on the side as well. River Oaks was the 9th treatment center I went to and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I stayed for over 90 days and am still sober 17 months later. I have tried to detox from benzos numerous times and was never able to get off of them because I was so sick-- so I always went back to them. The doctors at River Oaks successfully detoxed me from them painlessly as well as other drugs and alcohol. I am free finally from being a slave to narcotics and benzos! It is amazing! I never thought I would be able to get off them. The therapists were wonderful. As far as amenities, I don't understand why people complained. It is not a resort-- it is a rehab. I have been to rehabs where we were licjex up, unable to smoke or have our phones or make phone calls for weeks, and feeling unsafe. The TAs were amazing! I highly recommend this facility. It can change your life. I also really appreciated that they promoted many paths to recovery, not just twelve-steps, which has not worked for me. Recovery Dharma was incredible! River Oaks is an excellent treatment facility. They address the physical and mental aspects of addiction, and you feel like you're not alone in your addiction battle. Each person will feel like they're getting their needs taken care of with frequent visits with a doctor and therapist, and the classes are really helpful. I would recommend this treatment to anyone who is looking for help in addiction. I am leaving here a better person, with lots of skills under my belt. read more

I am a former client of River Oaks and I can candidly say I was more than disappointed. The therapist, nurses, on site providers and BHT were very knowledgeable and invested in their client's recovery. I believe this may be because they have ethical considerations that they have to abide by, the rest of the staff, however; is not as "ethical." For instance, 24 hours into my stay or intake I was coaxed into signing numerous papers while intoxicated. It turns out that these papers were authorizing River Oaks to blanket bill me for hundreds of dollars and potentially thousands of dollars. I was never informed that I would have to pay daily room and board. I was never informed that the facility would take out co-pays from my account without my authorization. The list goes on and on. In sum, I am deeply saddened by my experience and hope that future potential clients are cautioned about River Oaks Corporate only wanting their money. As a facility under the umbrella of Addiction Centers of America, I am even more disgusted. Again, this is only my experience and opinion. But again, beware.... read more
