Usually bad service here and management seems to not care and can be very rude. Best thing going for the restaurant is the view of the river. Request to sit in the back at the Windows. We assumed that all of the cars meant this was 'the' place to go, but -- After heading there for our anniversary this weekend, we learned otherwise. And, seriously, after this experience, I just assume go to Long John Silver's or Captain D's: Either of these two places are, at least, a whole lot less expensive and, quite possibly, the same or better service. One. We called ahead for reservations, which was not, at all, necessary ... There were, maybe, 8-9 other tables occupied. Two. When making the reservations, as well as referencing our anniversary, we were told that we would be given a table with a "great view" ... Well, we got a great view of three other occupied tables and, then, three empty tables right next to the window. (It was not worth requesting a move, though.) Three. The food really was not that good ... No halibut, so -- since I really wanted fish and chips -- I opted for the beer battered cod, which was not crispy on the outside and very, very greasy. The hush puppies were also cold on the inside. :/ And, my wife's grilled salmon arrived WITHOUT the pineapple salsa. And, then, this restaurant wanted to charge for additional chips to supplement the skimpy amount originally provided for our shrimp queso. Four. Service, or a lack thereof ... We counted SIX (6) servers standing around the receptionist area, along with the manager and, yet, we could not get refills on iced tea. SMH. :( I can think of much, much better and tastier ways to spend $78. read more

To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I recommended that my family go there after our mothers memorial service and the food was awful! Most items tasted like they were past their prime and should have been tossed. Everyone in my family (3 of us) had severe GI issues, a few hours after we ate there. I was embarrassed that I suggested it based on what I remember about it from years ago, guess things change! Floors were sticky, bathrooms smelled like bad food and bleach and It took over an hour to get our food. The restaurant was NOT busy. Sorry I have to be so honest but when you spend over $330 on LUNCH for 14 people in KINGSPORT TN you should receive better. The ONLY reason I'm giving 2 stars is that our waitress was very nice and none this was her fault. Please work on all of the above and take the dumb attitude quote off the menu until you improve, clearly your "attitude" about what it means to be a decent restaurant is lacking. read more

Our server was very polite but the multiple other helpers who came by to ask if they could take our plates before we were finished were not. The food was subpar at best. I got the fried flounder and it was rife with bones and tasted like it was previously frozen (advertised as fresh). It had been 6 months or so since we last visited Riverfront Seafood in Kingsport, TN, reason being sorry and disrespectful management/ownership. New owners took over in January 2019 and we gave them a few months to clean up the mess. Long story short, the new owners, Russ and Serena Burdine, have turned this place around. We were greeted very cordially when we arrived and only had about a 15 minute wait on a busy Saturday night. Our table had a view of the Holston River and our waiter was very attentive and accommodating. Drinks and appetizers were quickly prepared and our entrees soon followed. The menus are new with an air of sophistication that was lacking before. Lots of selections from Grouper to Red Snapper to mahi mahi to Oysters and Calamari. Steaks, chicken, pork and pasta was also available. I had the Blackened Red Snapper while Geanne tried the Shrimp and Chicken Jambalaya. For starters we had onion straws and Thai Shrimp. That was a meal in itself. Dessert was Bread Pudding with two huge scoops of Vanilla Icecream. Nothing was wasted as we boxed up the leftovers for tomorrow. All in all, an excellent choice for a spring evening dining experience. I have panned this restaurant in the past solely based on the insolent and ill-mannered previous owner. Now, the meals seem better prepared, well presented and the staff much more cordial and pleasant. Put this on your radar the next time you pass through Kingsport. We sat out on the deck and really enjoyed the view of the river...beautiful during the summer. However, the service wasn't so great, the food not so great... not very fresh taste and heavy with sauces. Also, when we got there we had to wait for a table and when we asked if we could sit out on the deck (lots of open tables with an area where there was no dinner service going on) the hostess freaked out a bit. She finally gave in and let us sit out there, which was great....but.... too much effort. Would give "zero stars" if possible. Incredibly inattentive and uncaring management. My husband went so far out of his way to set up a special evening, calling ahead several weeks before the date and several times afterwards to make sure all was ready. He was assured several times that all plans were finalized. Tonight we went for dinner and all of his plans were completely distegarded... When he complained to management they simply shrugged their shoulders and said "oh well... we are busy tonight". We won't be returning.. and their manager has stated that this is fine. The view of the river is amazing. I was there as the Sun went down and the lights on the indoor back patio through hundreds of nats to each light. The mahi mahi was really good. Outside of that, I would never return. The owners comment about the Nats being just part of the experience was absolutely disgraceful. All of the customers were complaining to each other and even the staff was talking about how bad it was. For the amount of money this company spends on TV advertisements, I suggest an exterminator. read more

We stopped in here while running one of the "southern dozen" routes for Johnson city area Sept 24th. We sat on the patio overlooking the river. Very nice after a great day of riding. It took a little bit for our server to warm up to us, but she was fine after that. We ordered the chefs choice which was 3 pieces of fish. Very tasty. We didn't order anything deep fried. This was our second choice to eat at but it should have been our first. After being ignored at our favorite chain restaurant we walked out and came here. The scallops were delicious! I have twice been to Digby Nova Scotia, the scallop capital of the world and these were comparable. They were not over breaded and were melt in your mouth good. Service was great.
