This is without a doubt my favorite breakfast place. The eggs are farm fresh and their breakfast specialities are unique (in a good way!) and delicious. They nestle eggs in a "bird nest" of cheesy hash browns topped with a variety of toppings - ie avocado, bacon, sausage - you name it. I absolutely love the "fire pit" - cheesy crispy hash browns with eggs my way - poached medium, always perfect - tomato, onions, pepper jack cheese topped with avocado - add some sriracha and you are all set. It is nothing short of amazing and I keep coming back to it. Oh and the service is great! If you go give the chefs a wave - they love hearing from customers. Love this place! read more

We were so disappointed by our visit today. The food was great, but took forever to get to us. It took over 40 minutes and the staff was not apologetic. My main issue was the manager. There was barely any thousand island dressing on my Reuben so I asked for more. They charged me .60 for a tablespoon of dressing. I asked for the manager and told her that I didn't realize there would be a charge; her response was "well, now you will know for next time". She also told one of the waitresses that I was ridiculous. We were close enough to overhear her. It was really unprofessional of her to say that in front of me, my husband, and my kids. I do love me a great and creative breakfast which this place delivers better than any other place I've found in NH. The other great part is that they focus on local and organic items while not putting the prices through the roof. I love the pile meals which are a mix of cheesy shredded hashbrowns with eggs and other assorted goodies piled on top. They are my backup option when I go here. My goto is the specials board. Most days they have 4 to 6 specials which all end up sounding so good I have trouble picking which one I want to try. From breakfast pizza to crazy omelets to French toast combinations that are to die for the specials never disappoint. The true hidden gem of this place is the raspberry jam they have. No matter what I order for my meal I always get toast so I can have an object to ingest this amazing jam with. If people wouldn't recoil and possibly ask me to leave the restaurant I would probably just shovel jam straight into my mouth. It is seriously that good. The staff are nice, but they tend to not try very hard. They never know the specials and they just tell you to go look at the board when you sit down. I find this annoying, but if thats the biggest issue with this place I think it shows how good it is. read more

My partner and I recently tried this restaurant for breakfast, and were both delighted by the delicious food and overall quality of everything we tried. I had the Compost Heap, which is listed under their signature creations on the menu, and enjoyed every bite. The hash browns were properly cooked and cravable, the veggies were fresh and saved the meal from being too rich, and the eggs...so many breakfast cooks do not know how to cook eggs, which are delicate things and need to be handled and cooked carefully. They get that here. I think the only thing I would tweak would be the salsa verde, which was a little too tart and could have used a pinch or two of sugar to balance out the flavor. It's a small complaint, and would not stop me from eating here once a week if I still lived in the area. I'll most definitely be back. read more

Creative dishes, albeit small and somewhat expensive, but very tasty and fresh, We've been here several times and it's always the same - long waits to get seated even if there are numerous empty tables, slow service, and the food takes a even longer to arrive. People are lined up out the door and the servers seem oblivious to the queue. The last time we were there, it took about 10 minutes for the server to bring silverware and water once seated. Don't even think about asking for coffee or a refill. There were plenty of wait staff mulling around the counter area so the poor service clearly isn't due to a staffing shortage. Was visiting a friend in New Hampshire and they insisted on going to Riverhouse. We waited eons for a table and then for our food, but it was well worth it. I can't remember the last time I had a more delectable brunch. I couldn't stop eating - my tastebuds wouldn't let me. I got one buttermilk pancake - which was a culinary miracle. It was light and fluffy, and buttery sweet with real maple syrup. I suspect they use ricotta cheese in their pancakes, and my tummy approves. I also got the Fire Pit plate - which is a spectacular concoction of eggs, cheesy hashbrowns, jalapeños, and avocado. ERMAGERD was it good. If I lived in New Hampshire, I'd be there every weekend for brunch. Totally worth five stars, took off one for the odious wait. read more

First Impressions: Good food, small portions Weight Watchers Rating: Splurge Only We tried the Riverhouse Cafe this (Sunday) morning due to the long lines and total chaos at the Red Arrow Diner across the Oval. We had a pleasant and tasty meal with quick, efficient service. Two out of the four of our party tried the Irish Benedict--Eggs Benedict made with corned beef hash. Both diners said it was tasty. I had the homemade Biscuits and Gravy, and our fourth diner had the Kielbasa and Cheese omelet. Everyone liked their food. My biscuits and gravy were absolutely delicious. The scratch-made biscuits were so light and fluffy they were almost cake-like. The gravy was also home-made--as good as I make at home. All the breakfasts came with pan fried potatoes. They were fine. We all shared a grilled cinnamon bun. Oh, that was delicious! Moist, sweet and warm. A delight--but huge. My only criticism of this restaurant is that the portion sizes are skimpy. $7.95 for two biscuits, a bit of gravy and 1/4 cup of pan-fried potatoes? $4 for a cinnamon bun? I thought that the food was great, but the prices were out of proportion to the serving size. $5.95 would have been more appropriate for the skimpy biscuits and gravy serving. The omelet was small as well. There was no wait for tables at this restaurant while the Red Arrow was hopping...I think it's due to the serving size and prices being out of sync. Came here this past August for my birthday breakfast with my husband since I've heard so many great things about them. Was welcomed by a staff member that seated us. Atmosphere was really nice and small. Had that feel of regulars coming in and using of local bakeries and farms nearby. I had the cinnamon raisin French toast which was amazing. Will definitely get that again. My husband had corned beef with toast, eggs, and potatoes. We both enjoyed it all. Food came out fast too. Not much of a wait. Will definitely come back for more. We were looking for a breakfast place on the way home from Lyndeborough (I had never heard of it either) after a late night with friends and the Riverhouse Cafe seemed like a good bet based on the few Yelp reviews it had. This turned out to be a good decision. The Milford Oval was busy this Sunday morning...tough finding a spot to park. However, after driving in ovals for a few minutes, one finally opened up. The place had some outdoor seating set up on the sidewalk, but as it was already getting hot out, we decided to opt for indoors. The Riverhouse has a larger dining area with a sort of diner bar area and a few tables, and then has a very small room off to the side with a few more tables. We sat by the windows overlooking the Oval, which provided a good view of all the chalkboard menus adorning the walls of the main area. (The specials are only up on the board, so you have to stand in the middle of the dining area viewing and memorizing these before heading to your table. Not practical for early mornings after late nights.) The thing that really impressed me about the Riverhouse was the freshness. You could immediately taste it. I had eggs over easy with their homemade sausage patty. As it was my first time, I wanted to get a sense of how they made the basics before going after the eclectic side of the menu. Everything was prepared very well...did not have that greasy taste that you get at a lot of breakfast places (and don't get me wrong...that type of breakfast has its merits as well), but this was really good and you were almost eating healthy. They give you some options to 'upgrade' your ingredients here. Local farm eggs for a quarter more. Organic coffee for a little extra. I didn't quite follow the waitress when she was asking me about this (again, a late night), so I just took the standard options, but I will probably try the luxury breakfast the next time I go to see if there is a difference. Overall a great breakfast experience, and although Milford isn't exactly close by for me, will likely make the trip out for this again. read more

There certainly are a lot of choices when eating breakfast in Milford now a days. Today we chose Riverwalk Cafe. I thought the ambiance could use a little help, but I got understood where they were going with the decor. I loved the that they use lots of local products such as eggs veggies and make their own sausage etc. I ordered a simply single chocolate chip buttermilk pancake with "homies". Pancake was good I only ended up eating half it was quite large. My homies were cold, but were still really tasty! I can only imagine if they were hot! This is, by far, my favorite breakfast place. I have never had a bad meal here. My current favorite is the 'Compost Heap' which is a healthier version of the 'Pig Pile'. The coffee is great, the Bloody Mary's are unique and delicious! I had friends visiting from Washington State who both said this was the best breakfast they have ever had. The ingredients are fresh, and local. The source is on the board. You can upgrade your eggs to organic if you wish. The specials always are exactly that, special. My friend recently took me on a brief tour of her hometown and she said this breakfast spot was a necessary stop. I'm not from New England but this place felt like a quintessential NE cafe, complete with friendly waiters and staff, comfortably cramped seating, walls covered with pictures and signs, and plates heaped with food. We snagged a seat by the windows with a view of trees and a stream while we had our coffee and OJ. I had the Compost Pile and half a chocolate chip pancake, which was more than enough. We chose to hit the Oval for lunch and decided on the Riverhouse Cafe -- ok, @rvrhousecafe didn't hurt either. We brought my 15mo & was happy to see that they had highchairs - nice & clean ones too (which is rare - keep it up!). Our server was great, super friendly to my little one, oh yea - and us as well. We really didn't go through the menu, mainly because the specials are in the main dining area on chalkboards. Con: If you're sitting in the little back room, it's tough because you have to get up & look at the specials. Our meal consisted of a hot dog & 2 burgers. The little one inhaled the hot dog (which means it was good), and my burger was great. I got the Barcelona - but it didn't have the sauteed onions on it. Should it have? I think so, but I'm usually on-the-fence about onions, so I don't really care. I didn't say anything either - it could have been fate saying - 'don't do it man.' The Spanish ketchup definitely added a great flavor. My wife got the Riverhouse burger (I believe) & it got a great review from her; sorry no specifics. So, looks like we can go to the Oval and hit the Riverhouse for lunch & then a nice little Italian place (that I've Yelp'd! before) for dinner. I don't give 5 stars, because you can only go down from there - but this place (minus the onion confusion) was pretty close. read more

This was one of the best breakfasts that I've had. The food was absolute quality and for a very good price. I ate the Eiffel Tower which was a tower of hash browns, Brie cheese, onions and poached eggs and its was incredible! Split a pancake with a friend and I literally cannot move it was so much delicious food. I had a mimosa and my friend had a Bloody Mary and they were both $4 and excellent!
