After my previous dentist no longer accepted my dental insurance, I searched for another dentist…read more For years, I've been going to Main Street Dental for cleanings and check-ups. First, the receptionist always greets me warmly when I walk in. They let you know how much you'll end up paying--if anything--upfront, and you electronically sign forms consenting to payment, cleaning, etc. Because I crave staining food and drinks, I try to stay on top of brushing, flossing, and my dental checkups. When I first started going here, the dentist informed me I had the beginning of periodontal disease. So I tried to step up my oral hygiene game (do you know how long 2 minutes is? Whether it's brushing your teeth or running on a treadmill, it's forever). Anyway, this place is fantastic because they had me coming in every 3 months for a cleaning to slow down my periodontal disease. Then they informed me I now only need to come in every six months since this past year. That saved me money and made me trust this place even more. They have also repaired a chip on my tooth, and everyone from the receptionist to the dental hygienists and dentist is very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The only downside is that I need an itemized receipt for my health spending account. While I understand they can't provide it immediately, they informed me they would email me a copy the following day or the beginning of the following week. This rarely happens, and I have to call them to email me the itemized receipt. Although I understand their busy schedules, three calls on the same day were necessary before they finally emailed the promised itemized receipt from the day before. I plan to keep this original, pearly white set of chompers with the current owner as long as possible. Thank you, Main Street Dental, for making that a reality - so far.

They recently upgraded their Pano to a 3D CT and when I asked the doctor about anticipated storage requirements for the 3D he told me the expected number of 3D scans was going to be much lower than I expected. and I said "You're not going to scan everyone?" he said "Hell, no!" "CT scans product more radiation than simple x-rays and we don't want to expose our patients to any more radiation than absolutely necessary." I didn't consider that, but it opened up my eyes to the thoughtfulness that the Doctors pay attention to when treating their patients. These aren't the things people talk about or look for in reviews so I thought people should know.

For context: I have avoided the dentist for years (regrettably and stupidly) and decided to finally come in to get an exam, to which they made me aware of the many cavities I had. The estimated services as well as my first examination, were definitely pricy, even with insurance. After the initial consultation, it made sense to me to hold off to try and save up for all the work I needed done. Once I eventually came in, Dr. Kane proceeded to interrogate me on why I did not schedule an appointment sooner, basically telling me I need to get my finances in order to get the work I needed done (which all makes total sense!). I explained that I am only working part-time at the moment since I am also going to school, so saving up takes a little longer than it would if I was only working--Dr. Kane was not satisfied with this response and continued to pry + lecture me. Although his intent seemed good, the delivery felt invasive. I did not appreciate him prying into my financial status, then proceeding to lecture me on finances/getting dental work done and then telling me I need to get my parents involved to help me pay; he even had the front desk give me a HIPAA form for my parents to sign and offered to call them personally. I understand the intention with wanting to help but Dr. Kane made me feel ashamed for taking a few months to get the funds needed for very expensive dental work. I am uncomfortable with making my parents fork over money for my self-inflicted issues, yet Dr. Kane was very insistent on getting them involved. I liked the practice up until this point. I don't deserve nor appreciate being shamed for not having an extra couple thousand dollars on hand! Additionally (and unrelated the previous experience), the front office has the tendency to call upwards of 5 times, with voicemails and texts to follow in one day just to confirm an appointment. I think a single call, with a single voicemail would suffice.

I have been a loyal patient of Avra Dental since it opened and have referred many family members…read moreover the years, but my experience has drastically changed since the departure of Dr. Jabaiti. The lack of communication regarding his exit was alarming; not only were we unaware of his departure, but the office also transitioned his patients to Dr. Malinoff without any prior notice. Reluctantly, my family and I chose to stay, hoping the quality of care would remain at the high standard set by Dr. Jabaiti. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The front office staff has become increasingly rude and unprofessional. They lack transparency and have consistently failed to inform patients about significant changes. On multiple occasions, I have found myself on the phone only to have staff members hang up on me without explanation. Moreover, since Dr. Malinoff took over, I have faced numerous issues with insurance billing. Under Dr. Jabaiti's care, I never experienced any insurance denials, but now, treatments are being denied left and right. After contacting my insurance, I learned that Avra Dental was not submitting the necessary documentation for approval. Despite my persistence, the front office insisted that everything was submitted correctly. It took months of back-and-forth before they finally sent the right information, resulting in an eventual approval. The rudeness of the staff has made each interaction a struggle. We tolerated this behavior because Dr. Jabaiti was an exceptional dentist, but now it feels like the office is in complete disarray. To make matters worse, I was recently informed that they are no longer in contract with my insurance, and with appointments looming for myself and family members, this left us scrambling to find a new dentist. There was no prior notice about this change, forcing us to rush and find alternatives. When I called my insurance to clarify, they explained that Avra Dental chose to stop accepting my insurance, despite the fact that they were still in-network. After persistent emails, I finally received my dental records to facilitate the transition to a new provider. However, for a family member's treatment, they had to go through multiple temporaries, and the assistants did not do a proper job. One temporary fell off in just one day! In summary, Avra Dental has become a source of stress rather than care. Save yourself the hassle and seek a dental office that values communication and patient care.
