I was staying at the Bear River Casino Resort, and this restaurant was the only one on property. I was quite surprised at how good the food was considering this was at a hotel/casino. We had dinner here the first night and got their special salmon, fried avocado, and fried mozzarella. The salmon was super moist and flavorful. The fried avocado was the biggest hit for the table. The avocado was ripe and breaded and fried to perfection. We had some fried mozzarella sticks with a good cheese pull, while others were not that great. We also had breakfast here the next morning. I got the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were not dry, which I really appreciated. It was a lot of food with not much variety in flavor to eat for an entire meal. I'd definitely recommend splitting this with the group. There is a different price with the casino players card + you're given coupons everyday for breakfast. While the restaurant is spacious, there weren't enough workers to open up the entire restaurant. I'd definitely recommend getting here early if you want to be seated in the first group of customers. We went to the River's Edge Restaurant and it was probably the worst service we have ever had. 3 different groups that sat after us were paying their bill before we got our food. It took them 15 minutes to bring us water. It took 3 people 2 hours to eat dinner. The food was pretty good. We loved the deep fried avocado. After dinner, we sat at the bar next to the restaurant an the girl walked behind the bar 3 times and didn't say a word to us and we finally left after sitting there 20 minutes waiting to get a drink. Again, I don't say this lightly...this was the worst service I have ever had at any restaurant I have ever been to. The food is good but just not worth the terrible service and prices. They have a great Mexican restaurant, that is much cheaper, at the other end of the casino. Don't waste your time here. read more

I'm really disappointed with our experience at Rivers Edge in the Bear River Casino. We waited over an hour for a simple order, and when the food finally came out, it was subpar at best. My partner ordered the breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 toast, 2 links, and hashbrowns extra crispy. Unfortunately, the hashbrowns were soggy and limp, more like rubber than crispy. The toast was decent, the eggs were fine, but the sausage links weren't cooked to order--they were just as rubbery as the hashbrowns. Parsley Garnish was old and wilted... As for my BLT with avocado and fries, the fries were fine and the ranch was okay. But the lettuce on my sandwich was old--wilted and had brown spots. They acknowledged it and offered to bring fresh lettuce, but honestly, that shouldn't have even been an issue in the first place. I'm giving it 2 stars, and the two stars are really just for the server who tried hard and gave us a 20% discount. In reality, this meal should've been free. This is a management issue from the top down. Here are some basics that should be addressed: Old lettuce and garnish should never make it to the plate--throw it out! When a customer asks for something like extra crispy hashbrowns or well-done meat, it should be done right. You can't just trust your staff to get everything right. They need training, testing, and supervision until they consistently meet the standards. Either you're not training them properly, or your standards are just too low. If I can't trust you to pull fresh lettuce for a sandwich, how can I trust you with perishables like meat, poultry, or fish? Unfortunately, this is the norm up here. Over the years, Bear River has never risen above these basic issues. It's sad, especially with all the money they make--you'd think they could afford to hire and train staff who can prepare a decent BLT or cook hashbrowns to a basic level of acceptability. Came in on a Friday night. Quite a lot of people dinning. Waited a little while to be seated. The lady server was very nice. We had the fried avocado it was very good. I had a steak sandwich and fries and my husband had a burger. I also had a mule cocktail and it was very good. Now if my review was just based on Friday night I would have given them a 5. However Saturday morning was a completely different experience. Came in was seated but it took about 20 minutes before the server even took our order. Then it was an hour before we got our food. The restaurant was packed but that is too long. When the food finally came my pancakes were inedible. Hard and shriveled. I was very disappointed. The bacon was good. Other people in the restaurant ended up leaving because they had already waited over an hour and couldn't wait any longer. I would not come back for breakfast maybe dinner. read more

Quality of food and service is way overpriced. We were seated near the kitchen door and had to listen to awful heavy metal and rap music blasting from the kitchen doors. I was excited to order my 1 year old son some Mac n cheese. For $8 on the children's menu, I expected more than the 1/4 box of 59 cent Mac n cheese from Grocery Outlet. For $7 they added sauteed mushrooms to my steak. Again, cheap effortless canned mushrooms. This place would be better off just selling chilli and cornbread. read more

The service was very slow as I waited 20 minutes before a waitress ever came to my table. I actually had to track someone down to ask if I was going to be waited on. Only had my coffee refilled a few times because she didn't check on me often. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. I've eaten many chicken fried steaks as I like to compare them. This was one of the worst. Usually, the steak is so tender that you don't even need a knife to cut it, but this wasn't the case. It was very small and very thick. I had to ask for a steak knife, which they didn't provide, but should have asked for a chainsaw. The gravy was ok, but the steak itself didn't have much flavor. This restaurant is appears elegant, and overall it's like a decent chain restaurant. I wouldn't make it a romantic spot, and the view of the valley and ocean sunset was tainted by the gas station. The food was good. We had a cobb salad, which included a perfectly grilled chicken breast and generous portions of everything, including avocado. Along with that we orded the tomato soup with cheesy bread. The bread was like a mini pizza and went very well with the soup. I don't usually frequent this restaurant, just because im not a huge fan of the casino, but they were having a special for Burger Week. Here in Humboldt, during Burger Week, lots of local spots have specialty burgers, and the North Coast Journal publishes the details. My husband was intrigued by the specialty burger the River's Edge restaurant had. It had bacon, brie cheese, and some kind of pepper jelly. The flavors together were phenomenal. We made a reservation for 6 people at 9am on Easter. We were promptly sat and our server was good and the food was ok. But at 948am an employee who was a blond female, wearing black and white skirt came to our table and mind you we had already paid and we're just finishing our food and she approached the table and told us we needed to wrap it up because they needed the table. So apparently you expect a party of 6 to be sat, served and ate in 48 minutes. You should not make reservations if you can't allow the party enough time to eat. I was having a very intense dessert craving so I decided to give River's Edge a chance. I ordered tiramisu and cheesecake. The prices were incredibly high but I was under the impression that the portion might be large. Let me say--I was shocked by the portion and taste. When you pay $7.50 for a slice of tiramisu--you expect something decently portioned and flavorful. I was very let down as it tasted like it was a regular store brought tiramisu with a somewhat stale aftertaste? The cheese cake was also $7.50 but the slice was smaller than my hand. The taste was nothing special either, it tasted like the banquet brand cheese cake. With $9.00 I could have gotten a significantly better cheesecake slice. I don't think I'll be heading back to this restaurant until prices are reevaluated. read more

We ate dinner here May 28 & 29 and it was fabulous. The pork belly bites and tempura prawn appetizers are wonderful, and the onion rings are huge and delicious. Had Scampi one night and a ribeye the next. The Scampi prawns were in a creamy sauce over angel hair pasta and were some of the best I've ever tasted. Ribeye was cooked to perfection and served with extremely tasty garlic mashed potatoes and veggies. Katie was the perfect server, bubbly and attentive. Had a nice table with beautiful views. No onions, no cheese, and a paltry 1/2 serving of jus that was more like brow water. Also received 4, yes 4 onion rings - soggy, all for $26 delivered. Heard about the new remodel.. heard the food was good.. They advertise Ocean View seating. The ocean is out there.... way WAY out there... but, I'm sorry, the restaurant overlooks the casino parking lot and the Pump and Play Gas Station... Brought my Husband for his Birthday and have never been more disappointed with a meal... We started with drinks... those were ok... nothing to write home about. We asked for water, which eventually arrived, but was served in glasses that smelled like a dirty dishwasher. My husband ordered the Fried Avacado appetizer... I got the Fried Mozerella. His appetizer was pretty tasteless except for a decent dipping sauce. At least his was edible! The Fried Mozerella was horrendous... It was SLABS of breaded Mozerella served over wet tomatoes... it was tasteless soggy and disgusting. I'm not one to send things back... but this, after just one bite.. I had to object! For entrees, I ordered the New York Strip, Medium.. my husband got the Lobster Ravioli... My steak came butterflied.. indicitive of someone who doesn't know how to cook a steak to temperature... and was VERY well done.. like.. shoe leather well done... I could barely cut it or chew it... My husband's Lobster Ravioli looked like lobster and smelled like lobster.. but he said it tasted of chewy clams... we're guessing they were frozen. He powered though a bit of his entree but, I just couldn't... I sent my entree back too.. at that point I was feeling sick to my stomach. The only saving grace to the meal was the non-discript, probably from a bag, salads... And I ate my husband's garlic bread.. since they never brought the bread that was supposed to come my entree. Our server tried.. I'll give him that. And the Restaurant Manger came over and asked if she could get me anything else.. but.. really? I couldn't stomach anything at that point! No offer of a free dessert or anything.. which I might have considered... But, when the check FINALLY came (seriously... you don't make dissatisfied people sit and stew for 25 to 30 minutes, adding insult to injury!) they'd only voided my entree... Not the Appetizer... I asked them to fix that.. they did... we paid and couldn't leave fast enough... Maybe the Pasta Bar they were having tonight would have been good... It smelled good... but, after watching the same 5 people stand there waiting for their food for 15 minutes, I'm guessing the wait would have pissed me off even IF the pasta was edible.. soooo... read more

Last visit we ate here several times. Huge portions and good service even though they were pretty busy. This time we were practically alone in the restaurant. ( see photo ). Both my husband and I are very patient but after sitting there at least 15 minutes we flagged down a waitress who said she would find our server. Once he got there he was very nice. Seemed ridiculous to have to wait so long in a restaurant this empty. His bacon wrapped meatloaf was very good. I got a 2 piece fish and chips and I'm not kidding, the fish was slightly larger than a silver dollar and not much thicker. Deli earlier had a great hamburger. Tuesday night is prime rib night! Dining solo after enjoying a couple drinks and donating to the machine gods.... 14.99 10oz prime rib. Was seated at the window and enjoyed a great meal and great service. Opted for the soup. Tonight's was chicken bacon potato. Very good. The meat ordered rare an hour before closing was perfect! Only 2 complaints First, the breadsticks are awful. Hard and over seasoned..why the butter? Second, the asparagus, delicious in flavor, was a tad over cooked. I'd eat here again. Two years later the food has improved. Salad greens were fresh and garnish was nicely done. The bleu cheese dressing was bleu cheese flavored, not real bleu cheese. Husband had chicken fried steak that he liked. It was actual battered steak, not the frozen stuff and potatoes and gravy were good. However no sides...salad or soup, not even bread. I had fettuccine with a red sauce they called marinara. The pasta was drowning in it. It was tasty but not marinara and way too much. The chicken served with it was dry. Maybe that's why they put so much sauce on it. Prices were high for the quality. Skipping breakfast and going across the highway to a place that has 4 1/2 stars. read more

Just had dinner at the River's Edge Bar and Grill at the Bear River Casino. All I can say is we will never eat here again. Our server was very nice and accommodating however the food was awful. The menu is limited and the food is very overpriced for the quality.I had the Hot Nashville Chicken Sandwich with onion rings. The bread of the sandwich was so thick and extremely stale. I couldn't bite through it. The onion rings were cold and not much better than the frozen kinds from the grocery store. My partner had the chicken fried steak and it was overcooked. It was served with mashed potatoes and nothing else. It was considered a dinner but no salad or veggies served with the meal. My son ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf and just got that on the plate, nothing else. He had to ask for the veggies. Basically paying high dinner prices for your entree only and then it tastes like cardboard. My daughter in law refused a to go box from the waitress because she said her food was so bad not worth taking the leftovers home. I had dinner with a couple friends on Valentine's Day. I had looked at the menu on-line earlier in the day and found they had created a "special" menu just for the day. I wasn't impressed with the choices and the prices were pretty darn high. They had two dinners "for two" that were about $99.00. Both were steak dinners, I think one was a filet mignon. $50 for a steak dinner for one doesn't hardly happen even at the best restaurants here locally. Their 18 oz prime rib dinner was $39 and obviously a huge mark-up. I was curious about whether you get anything with the meal since it was not noted whether you get a salad and getting JUST a salad was not a choice. The appetizers did not look appetizing. This will be interesting. I had to spend a couple hours sitting at the bar to wait for my "dates" as my husband was playing music for the restaurant that night. Nice music does class up a joint and many people are impressed when that happens. So when you sit at a bar for hours and watch you really see things. You do get a view of every server. One young man server was wearing a shirt so big (and wrinkled) that the sleeves hung down onto his hands. He looked very disheveled and sloppy, which never impresses someone who might spend $50 bucks for a steak. Another server attempted to open a bottle of wine. She shredded the foil top and then searched everywhere for the bar's bottle opener. Now usually in a fine dining establishment or place where wine might be served the servers carry their own opener and actually know how to use it. Not so here. I had asked for Grey Goose "up." She measured me one shot and started to put it in a small glass. I at least got her to shake it first. I let that one go and was way more specific for my next drink, which generally means in a chilled martini glass. I should add that any time I am at a place where they make the bartender measure each drink I am not impressed. I will say that the bar staff worked really well together and were on the run but they could really use a little training on how to open bottles and prepare drinks. Finally it was time to be seated. Our reservation was kind of late because we were waiting for a table where we could watch the pianist. None of us could see him. We were seated at our table and the menus were sitting in a pile instead of handed to each of us. Then we waited. After several minutes our server came to see if we wanted drinks. We gave our order and...waited. Finally she returned and took our dinner order. I felt more like I was eating at Denney's than anything else. I decided on the lasagna. How could you go wrong, right? After having sat there for a goodly amount of time, the server brought us a basket of bread which were wheat rolls. Nothing special about them but I was starving since it was now 8 pm. Our salads came and they consisted of bagged lettuce that wasn't crispy nor was it chilled with a couple of grape tomatos on the side. Dressing came on the side in a plastic cup. I am so not impressed and concerned about my dinner at this point. When my lasagna arrived it was a giant piece with a lackluster tomatoe sauce around the side. It was pretty flavorless and barely warm. They failed to impress me and considering they boast a "chef" I was saddened. I took the large piece of lasagna home but never ate it. This was the first time I have ever eaten at Bear River Casino's Rivers Edge and it will be the last. While the staff was friendly I just think they need someone to come in and show them how to spiff up their service and do something serious about their food. read more

$15.95 Prime Rib buffet? We are THERE! I read reviews about the casino here, but none of them had to do with the restaurants. It seemed to me that no matter what, one should always be able to find something you like to eat at a buffet, right? Sadly, no. I learned something new last night--sometimes everything at a buffet is inedible. First, the prime rib. Chewy and so salty that it was impossible to taste anything else, I tried two different pieces and neither of them tender or tasty. I don't like to leave much food on my plate at buffets, but I had to leave all the prime rib and the ham. There weren't many choices on the buffet line, but the vegetables were soggy and the bread was stale. The cherry cobbler had some flavor that didn't belong--it was a fishy taste. The candy that was set out was undone and still had crystallized sugar in it. The service was good--tables were kept clean and the waitress was appropriately attentive. The tables and chairs were comfortable, and the casino itself was clean and attractive with little smoke. read more

Since the hotel was added and the restaurant was moved over the food quality had seriously gone down. The Food and Beverage director should be ashamed of themselves. Tonight I had shrimp scampi (see pic) and while the flavours were good they were not Scampi. Scampi does NOT have a cream sauce. Add to that that for $18.95 I got 5 pretty small prawns, a 1/2 scoop of garlic mashed potatoes (I added the butter they were kinda dry) and the standard sauteed summer squash mix (Get a GRIP people, there are OTHER vegetables besides summer squash you can use!) My husband ordered Chicken Marsala and a cup of seafood chowder. The chowder was watery and flavorless, The Marsala was barely adequate and again a cream style sauce. Chicken Marsala is NOT made with a cream sauce either. Really? Come ON Food & Beverage step up! Why are the Chef's also not speaking up. I used to cook in a restaurant, I would NEVER allow food like this out of my kitchen! I must say though, the servers were awesome! Spot on and cheerful! We've eaten here numerous times, the view is great, the dining room is great and the staff are great. Over time there are fewer and fewer patrons and there have been lots of changes that haven't helped. First, the prices are on the high side, the menu has continued to become more limited, the prices have increased, the salad with dinner has disappeared without extra cost, so have the bread and breadsticks. The water is still free. The sides have come and gone. Now you can't have a backed potato with your meal with a $2.99 up charge because there's a potato bar. The Prime Rib prices have skyrocketed. The Pork chops have been reduced from 2 to 1. The Chicken on Salad was raw. Saturday nite, near empty. What a shame - get back to basics - salad with dinners, bread and breadsticks without up charges and reduce prices to a more reasonable level. The only reason we eat here are because of vouchers and comps - otherwise not worth it!!! Fix this!!! Lower prices - complete dinners and you'll have more customers. This restaurant is currently being driven into the ground. Preparing the salad at the table does nothing. Where are you getting your advice?! Maybe you need a suggestion box. I sat right at the bar last night and ordered a hamburger and salad. The people were very friendly, the meal came out quickly, and it was unique and satisfying. I ordered the burger medium-well, and it was cooked perfect, with just a slight touch of pinkish in the middle, (not bloody). It had a different but excellent taste, and as a burger expert, I rate this one right up there at the top, maybe even the best. The salad was fresh and crisp; also very good. read more
