Delicious breakfast with great service! So happy we went there! Had the chicken fried steak plate and was so full when we left.

We arrived at 6pm for dinner on June 20th. We were greeted promptly by our server and asked him a few questions on the menu. I ordered the Filet Mignon and my husband had the Shrimp Scampi. The meal started out with hot breadsticks that were warm and fresh! We both went with the soup of the day which was clam chowder. There was nothing special about it but it was good. The entrée's arrived and that is where they completely missed out. My Filet was cooked perfect medium rare but the sauce they put over is was so bad! I am sure it was a packaged sauce which took away from the great meat. My husbands Scampi tasted like they poured a bottle of white wine right onto the shrimp without cooking it out. Really! Make up your mind on which way you are going to go with your food. It was an expensive dinner I would expect higher quality produce. We found this restaurant to be very good. We had dinner there twice and breakfast once. The first night my husband and I both had their special halibut which was excellent. I do admit, however, that the salad was a little limp. Our dressing came: mine: ceramic dish; my husband: plastic cup so I guess it's up to the server(?). We ordered dessert which was excellent! The second night my husband had steak....EXCELLENT taste, preparation, everything!! I ordered from the appetizer menu: crab cakes with a house salad. Very good. Had the Tuesday Prime Rib Meal and it was really good. Walked in an were immediately seated. Order was taken and food was served promptly. Vegetables looked a bit lack luster. The bread was lacking color and I requested some darker and the came right out. Everything went fine until the waitress, Sara was verbally combative and lacked integrity regarding her screw up on informing me of particular add on mark ups that were on the menu. I am in the service industry and any mark is up is ALWAYS mentioned. I was okay with the mark up but I wanted to bring it to her awareness which clearly angered her and she slightly raised the volume in her voice and walked away declaring she would send the manager over. Thankfully! It was understood and cleared up by the manager. Funny the couple in the booth next to us discussed it and the lady said she would not order that item since she heard through our conversation the price was higher. I overheard her order the same item specifically detailed...Sara never mentioned the markup to either couple on each side of us. Sara when become that upset over your oversight and need to be right, reconsider working in the service industry...THAT IS YOUR TIP! Was shocked to see how bad this place was. I had previously looked at the menu online, very pricey with fabulous dinners. So you would think the restaurant would have a certain ambiance and elegance to it. Not at all, I've seen better truck stop restaurants than this. The waitstaff is moving quickly without even making you feel inviting. The tables are way to close to each other (no privacy). The salad bar is sloppy and they actually refill the lettuce from a bag. Now I know many restaurant use bagged lettuce, but most do the transfer in the back not out at the salad bar. My wife had the Chicken Cordon Bleu, you can tell that this was a frozen chicken from a plastic bag, like the ones you buy in the frozen food section of the supermarket. They just added their own sauce on top of it. It was terrible. I had the Chicken Cacciatore, the cheeses in the inside weren't even melted, a deli can make this better. Also the tables are dirty, and the split wall behind us had dust on it, the place needs a good cleaning. Don't eat here!!! read more

I do not recommend this place to anyone. Our server was the best part of the experience. She was awesome. The food was not just lacking but downright disappointing. The prices do not match the quality. The dinnerware, especially the glasses, were dirty. The desserts even sucked. How can dessert suck?! Good luck finding parking if you aren't staying at the hotel, unless their free valet parking extends to the restaurant. I'll have to find out. Don't waste your money here! read more

Very disappointed. The prices have gone up since we were there 6 months ago, and the food did not match which is disappointing because they have a new chef. I had the scampi and it tasted like it came from Denny's. My husband had huge ribeye! it was awful. They changed the menu from the last time we were there too. The service was poor because the server was stretched quite thin, so many tables around us had the same frustrated look that we did. I cannot express enough how poorly the food tasted. Our family stays there when they come to visit, we are going to have to eat elsewhere, because sadly, we won't be back again. read more

Great mid afternoon restaurant. Food is wonderful and service is good too. We had a portobello burger and the chef's special sandwich. Both were delightful. The potato rounds were excellent and I would highly recommend the deep fried avocado. Lots of great choices for dessert too! Nice view of the Ferndale valley. read more

My first and last time to visit Rivers Edge Restaurant was on Valentine's Day and we were very disappointed in the food and the service. They had a limited menu which our server told us was "to make it easier for the kitchen staff ". We hoped to have prime rib so we ordered the steak dinner instead. Three of us in our party ordered medium rare steaks and they ranged from medium well to very rare and all 3 steaks were full of gristle. For Valentine's the menu was scaled down and the prices were bumped up higher than usual and the quality of the food was poor! Service was slow and cocktail service was absent. We each got one cocktail after a 20 minute Walt and then waited for dinner with empty glasses. Our server stood in one place and reached across the table to place the plates with her armpit in my face. Very unprofessional. We won't go back. The prices were just too high to justify such a poor dining expeperience and poor quality food. read more

We frequent this casino because it's close to our home. The comp for rooms, food and free play is consistently good. The hotel is always clean and enjoyable. The rivers edge is nothing but a huge disappointment in a otherwise great place. We've had lunch and dinner there multiple times over the years, and have always been unhappy. Was hoping for a change after the recent remodel, but the menu and same low quality of food remains. Or verdict: stay and play, just eat somewhere else first. read more

The service was horrible. It took almost ten minutes just to get waters. Their famous dish, the deep fried avocado, was disgusting. The color of the avocado was mainly brown, not even green! The ceaser salad was terrible! I had one bite and left the rest. You could tell the lettuce was bad. They didn't even have sweetener for my ice tea, or raspberry ice tea!!!!!!! The clam chowder made my friend sick!!! I'm pretty sure that's NOT supposed to happen. Overall I'm giving it one star because the service could've been way better for a place that was not even full. If I could give it zero stars I would! The people behind us had a hilarious kid, but that was the only upside. Husband sent back his chicken fettuccine, we asked for bread three times before we had to ask someone else, daughter had to ask for ranch twice, fried chicken had hardly any meat on it, green beans weren't cooked at all. That was dinner. We had higher hopes for desert thinking how could they mess that up! Well they did. Awful cheesecake, my son and I ordered the strawberry shortcake and then had to wait 15 minutes after she brought the other deserts because " it's a new desert and they are trying to figure out how to make it." No joke. The "shortcake" was as hard as a rock. So basically, they need to invest in some new cooks. Extremely over priced for bad food. Even the breadsticks were gross! Terrible service; we were so fed up with the attitude of the staff that we left before we could even be seated! I came in with my boyfriend on a quiet Wednesday night, there were only 3 tables or so. The first hostess we interacted with just couldn't be bothered, and was acting like having a line of folks waiting to be seated was somehow an inconvenience (even though that's.. I don't know.. her job?). She put us on a list for a 15 minute wait, which usually wouldn't be a big deal, except there were tons of empty, set tables. A few moments later another hostess (luckily this one had good customer service skills) came over to seat us. A waiter then scolds her from across the restaurant, impatiently telling her not to seat us yet. The nice hostess was apologetic and obviously embarrassed about her colleague speaking to her like this in front of customers. Between the AWFUL interaction with the first hostess, along with the waiter immaturely reprimanding the only employee willing to help us, we immediately took our business elsewhere. read more

This place is AWFUL!! We made a terrible choice in trying to reserve a spot for Easter dinner. They called around 3pm and asked us to move our 5:30 reservations to 6. That made us nervous but we decided to go anyway. Sat down about 6:10 and the waitress came over and we ordered drinks and our dinner right away. After an hour and 15 she came back and said- "your food is in the window". We finally got up and left just shy of 2 hours later. The management brought food out to their friends and everyone else in the building was waiting for over an hour. The hostess tried to make it better by telling us "we have no chef, just a sous chef". The entire management of this place should be fired and replaced. The supervisor on duty was not qualified or had the experience to deal with the chaos and mismanagement of the team. We left and took about 15 customers waiting to be served with us. Shame on you for allowing your bottom line to dictate money over just closing the kitchen for dinner service. read more

Things started out great I found a $20 bill floating around the parking lot. That's when it went down hill. First No Kids Menu (I figured Ok its a Casino). Second the place looks nice we were promptly seated in an empty restaurant at 5:30 on Sat night. That should have been the red Flag! My wife had the fish tacos Not to bad. I ordered the Three piece on the bone Fried chicken and Bleu cheese Mac. When it arrived it was three very small store bought Chicken strips. I kept waiting for the waiter to return so I could ask to reread the menu. I was sure I had read Bone in Cajun fried Chicken. I googled the menu while I waited. Yup it was supposed to be Cajun fried bone in chicken with a bread crumb crusted Mac. I had gotten an $18 chicken strip plate with uncooked zucchini and Wayyyy overcooked corn. My daughter had ordered Fried chicken and Mashed potatoes She also received the same lame frozen chicken strips $19. I NEVER complain about a meal but this was a bit much. I politely explained to my server Smokee, when he brought the check they should fix the menu. He asked why and I explained what I had ordered was not what I had received he agreed and left to charge my credit card. No sorry! No explanation! I almost stiffed him on the tip.( I didn't) I'm still looking for the bread crumbs on the Mac, the bones in my chicken, some cooked veggies, dressing that's didn't come from a jar and a waiter who cares. This was a great find. Driving south on 101 we found ourselves hungry during a long drive from Crescent City. We pulled off in Loleta and turned up the hill to find the Bear River Casino. We found the restaurant and had a great lunch. Loved the meatball soup and resort burger. We also had their great club sandwich. Nice people, great service, fantastic view. read more

We come to town once a year and this is our second time staying at the casino (Bear River) and each time the food at the restaurant has been horrible. I'm giving one star because my food was good but other then that everything else was terrible. I just attended dinner at the restaurant and was extremely dissatisfied with my service. We waited an hour to be seated and then on top of that It took 2 hours for my party of 3 adults and 1 child to receive our food. We had to ask our waitress 3 times for more bread. As well as having ordered our meal and after waiting more then 30 minutes we had to ask for our soup because we still not received it. When the waitress finally brought our soup out, none of the cups were on plates and there was soup dripping down her arms, but we was so hungry at that point I ate it anyways. And about the soup, all 3 cups of soup was nothing but broth. Apparently it was suppose to be clam chowder but the consistency was of water, not a creamy chowder that it's suppose to be. After 45 minutes to an hour after we had ordered our food our waitress came out and informed our party that the New York steaks we ordered were all sold out and that she has had to tell many customers about being sold out of the steaks all night. If she had known that they were out of the steaks from earlier that night then why did she allow us to order them and then wait an hour after we ordered to let us know about it? Our food finally got to our table and we all asked for refills on our drinks, our waitress said no problem she would be right back with refills and some water. Never once did my table get a refill on any of our drinks even after we were asked if we would like them. Not only did she bring water out to every new table that was seated, she also brought pitchers of water out to tables that had been there for a while, for some reason I guess she never saw fit to bring our table any water at all even after we requested it specifically. At this point we had had it with our restaurant experience and we're ready for our check so we could just leave, that is if would could get our check. I had to physically track the waitress down and ask for our check because she never came back to our table. The food was good, but the service was the absolute worst I have ever had in Humboldt county thus far of any restaurant I have ever been to. I work in the restaurant industry and I do understand when it's busy and short staffed that things take longer to get to tables, but my visit to the restaurant tonight was far beyond just being busy and short staffed. I'm not sure that my self or anybody else in my party will ever be back because of tonight. read more

I have been here more times than I can count. The food is usually far better than the service busy or not. Just had Christmas buffet with family @ $25 a head. It was very good. However we ordered the optional prime rib that was not on the buffet but at additional cost. When my 78 year old mother and 72 year old Aunt could not finish their slice and asked for to go boxes it was frowned upon and told it could not be supplied. WTF!!!?? I get the no to go boxes for a buffet but this was something that we all paid EXTRA for! They did not in any way have a plate full of buffet items that they wanted 'to go'. I am BEYOND pissed off!!! Did not want to create a scene but plan on taking it up with a manager and will certainly think twice about spending money here EVER again!! read more

Staying in the Bear River Hotel for 3 days so we have had our share of this restaurant. First off I have 3 girls under the age of 7. They were extremely welcoming .....had crayons and bear coloring pages ready for them. They have very affordable & delicious kids meals. Mine loved the French toast covered in frosted flakes. 2 huge slices of thick french bread! Lunch the kids enjoyed chicken strips & a huge PB&J and fries. More than enough food to share! I had a half order of biscuits & gravy ( $5 ) and a side of hash browns ( $3 ) homemade and delicious!! & more than enough food I didn't even finish it! One day at lunch I had the prime rib & bean soup it was so good! Mixed green salad was just mediocre nothing to write home about. But fresh :) overall great experience and a great view overlooking their reservation. I have not had the pleasure of dinner yet but it looks just as good as everything else! :) read more

My family and I went there on Easter for dinner. They had a buffet that was $23 per person and only offered Ham, chicken and few sides. That's it... and charged $23 per person... It was outrageous.. They didn't even have mashed potatoes but scalloped that tasted awful. I will NEVER go back and no one else should either for that price and such a horrible selection of food. You can go to a steak house for that price and get more food and better food. It was truly awful and I see they are charging the same price for Mother's Day as well. My advice is to not go. I wish Id read these reviews before deciding to dine here. We recently decided to "stay cation" at the hotel and was excited at the online menu. Our waitress at dinner seemed un happy. There were 5 of us for dinner, we each received our meals at different times. Very different times. The youngest received her dinner last (she should have been first if not at the same time). She ordered the macaroni and cheese and a side of green beans since the mac & cheese didn't even come with a vegetable. When her food finally arrived it was barely room temperature and turned out to be Kraft macaroni and cheese. I was shocked. I was paying $25 for the crab raviolis (way over priced) and my poor daughter was stuck with garbage. We also went thirsty as our waters were never re-filled. The next morning I was looking forward to the breakfast menu. Our waitress was very sweet, very apologetic, and very incompetent. We waited 30 minutes for coffee. Ordered mimosas that never came. My friend received her order last, about an hour after we'd sat down and it was a scramble with hash browns. She'd ordered the popeye omelet with country potatoes. Needless to say we were very frustrated and wont be back. The hotel portion I will be writing a separate review for. read more
