Cold night, ordered clam chowder and it was cold. The waitress disappeared, leaving hungry. Very disappointed!

I've gone to the Riverside Cafe for years and until recently, I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I go for breakfasts and I think the service is great and the wait staff is very friendly and the place is homey . I always feel welcome. However, lately, the food is going downhill. The bacon tastes old, if not rancid. The sausage patties are so over cooked that I can hardly cut them with a knife, let alone chew a bite. I gave up on the sausage links long ago. They are large, but tasteless. I recently tried the biscuits and gravy (a favorite) and thought it tasted like raw, uncooked flour. They have 2 problems: the meat supplier and the cook. I think they need to replace both. I'm really saddened by this, because until recently, this was a favorite place of mine. If business slacks off, the good waitresses will move on also. read more

Best breakfast place to eat in a cozy old school diner. Love to go here on Saturday or Sunday mornings and enjoy a cup of coffee while my meal is prepared. Eat here so much I've gone through quite a few punch cards. read more

Came in for a breakfast on Saturday. We luckily got seated right away. Cramped but tolerable. I ended up getting an egg, bacon, pancake, and B&G 1/2. My bf got the hungry woman which is 2 of all the meats, pancake, eggs, and toast. Eggs were well cooked. Meats were all excellent. B&G was standard, buttery biscuit for sure. Pancakes were excellent! Overall a great diner experience and when you want just good homestyle breakfast this is a great stop. Service was fine, nothing exceptional but did a good job. read more

The food is decent enough, but the owners of the establishment encourage gun owners to bring their weapons with them. The other day, an older gentleman entered the cafe openly wearing a pistol in a holster on his hip. He seemed infirm. I'm sure he is a good person but I'd hate to be present if he feels threatened enough to draw his weapon and start shooting. The experience was so creepy that I'll be taking future meals at restaurants that ban guns from their premises. read more

My husband and I have been daily guests at the West location. We've seen ups and downs in the food and the service as they tweek the menu and servers. As regulars we get overlooked sometimes or asked if we can wait till they assist another party. We don't like being called by name out loud in the restaurant, due to privacy. We don't get a menu sometimes because they think we should have it memorized by now. I don't like the meat loaf, but usually other meals are okay. The hot rolls are really dense and hard to bite and chew most of the time. Almost everything is greasy, but I understand it's the comfort food of the day. Usually I go home feeling tense after the commotion there, the servers can be rather vocal about things other than pertaining to their jobs. Safety issues like food on the floor, exit doors being locked during business hours, need to be addressed. Servers handling food without gloves on bother me a bit. As spring has arrived we might not go in daily anymore, getting busier at home and desiring our own picnic basket with sweet pickles and things they don't have. Maybe going just a few times a week will stop the 'regular' treatment we've been getting. read more

This place definitely has the local neighborhood feel to it. I've been there several times and the food was fine every time (I even tried their shrimp plate once). The staff is energetic and seems happy to work there...which indicates good ownership/management. To underscore that, one visit I had an over-enthusiastic staffer innocently make a real faux paux. Without identifying the employee I mentioned it to the owner Mr. Cohlmia. He responded by thanking me profusely and even included a certificate for my next meal. I wanted somewhere to grab a quick breakfast, and I had not tried riverside yet. The place wasn't too busy and none of the other shops were open so there was plenty of parking. Inside was cozy with a great diner feel. I had a patty,1 egg, and a half order of b&g. I didn't like the patty, because it was extremely rubbery and reminded me of something served in a school cafeteria. The egg was good, not greasy and cooked correctly. The b&g were fine, but I'm probably being a bit harsh because I love b&g. The amount of gravy was overwhelmingly amazing! Not only the entire biscuit, but the entire plate was filed with gravy. The gravy was very tasty but a little salty. The biscuit was very light and fluffy. I personally like a little more substance with my biscuit in the great duo, so to me it felt like the biscuit and gravy became one and I wasn't fond of that. Just like Bob Barker (now Drew Carey) says, the price is right! It was a great deal for breakfast. Looking at their entire menu, I look forward to trying them out for lunch, especially for the fried chicken! This place is definitely worth trying out! read more

I love their breakfast! I usually get the biscuits & gravy, 1/2 order because the biscuits are big. The biscuits are soft, fluffy, & warm. The gravy is excellent! I really appreciate that their food isn't salty. Service has always been good to us! They are friendly, quick to help & get your drinks & food out to you. read more

We were very impressed with our trip to Riverside Café this weekend while shopping in Wichita. It was a little tricky to find a place to park, not to mention we actually drove past the building the first time around, but once we got inside we were hooked. Inside was cute, staff was helpful (and worked as a team), the menu was vast, and the prices were reasonable. The food was very good, especially the biscuits and gravy and the chicken fried steak which was tender enough to cut with a fork. My boyfriend is going to have a hard time getting me to go elsewhere in Wichita. read more

We went in with a Living Social so it was our first time there. The amount of food for the price was so huge! The food itself was pretty good, the steak wasn't very good quality but the rest of the meal was so enjoyable it wasn't a big deal. I would definitely go back, but maybe just in the day time. Riverside Café touts its "American" food and while their breakfast certainly is their strong suit, nothing is more American than the hamburger. I had one last Sunday....my advice, never make the mistake of ordering one...might be the worst burger I have ever had...without ketchup, mustard and onion, there would be zero taste. read more

I've eaten at Riverside Cafe for years & have always ordered the same thing, chicken fried chicken. Today was the second time in a row that we received poor service. The waitress was nice (new?) but still... The chicken fried chicken was horrible. There was more crust than chicken & the chicken was more like a rawhide chew. The chicken was very very thin & freezer burned. I wonder if it really was chicken at all. It was inedible. I am so disappointed. I won't be back. read more

When other cafes claim to be honest or unpretentious in regards to their food, they should visit this cafe. This is the straight forward working man's establishment with just plain good food. If they screw it up, the manager takes care of it. I dare say that the cook may actually eat his own cooking. It is cramped, it is busy, it is tight, but it is worth it. read more

We have been coming here for about 3 years now. After our last experience we will never return. The young dark haired hostess is a foul mouthed little twat, and needs an attitude adjustment, BAD! The waitresses are always polite and efficient, and so is the younger blonde guy working the register, but as long as that little hostess brat is employed there I won't step foot in this place. read more

I am a long time customer of the Riverside Cafe. Always had good meals and service. However my last experience was quite different. I have since been told that the restaurant has new owners. I ordered a Ruben sandwich. It tasted awful. I opened it and there was no piece of meat bigger than a dime and very little of it. There was a cream sauce mixed in and I brought it to the attention of the "Boss", or "Manager". He neither looked at the sandwich or asked what was wrong with it. What he did do was tell me that they are famous for their Ruben sandwiches and I must be wrong. I was floored. I stormed out after paying my bill for fear they would chase me down the parking lot. This isn't the Riverside Cafe I have frequented so many time before. Will not return. read more
